Ipod touch 3.1.3 shutdown

Why did my ipod touch 3.1.3 shutdown & will not come back on, though it's been on charger for days.

Try the standard fixes to rule out a software problem:
- Reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory settings/new iPod
if still problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer

  • Ipod Touch keeps restarting after "red slider" shutdown...and other issues?

Hi There...I'm considering returning my Ipod Touch and thought I'd see if anyone else was experiencing similar issues before I do anything drastic. I purchased a second generation Ipod Touch in December (2.2.1 update) and everything seemed to be working well for a while. I guess it was sometime in January that I noticed my ipod restarting itself after shutdown (red slider)...almost every single time. I simply CAN NOT shut down my ipod when I want to. It does shut down temporarily, then...sometimes seconds, sometimes minutes later...it restarts on it's own.
I've reset all settings, and I've tried turning off wifi (which seemed to work temporarily), but now it's doing it again. I've heard that if you continue to hold down the sleep/wake button while you slide the red slider to "off" it will cause the ipod to restart...so I'm wondering if maybe there's something wrong with the button? Sometimes it seems like if I fiddle with the button (pulling up on it and such), it will allow me to shut it down...but this could be coincidence. I've seen a posting on another mac forum outlining a similar problem but there were no replies. Can anyone offer any other suggestions?
Also, I've been experiencing volume issues with my Ipod...sometimes there's just no volume while songs, youtube videos, etc. are playing. The "progress"(?) bar shows that audio/video is playing, but there is no sound (and yes...the volume is turned up). Seems to happen most often when the headset is plugged in...but that's how I use it most of the time. I do hook it up to an older tuner/amp with a 1/8" to RCA Y-cord, and with a 1/8" - 1/8" cord in my truck and it's cut out then as well.
Both problems seem to be getting worse I only have a few apps on the Ipod (aside from music, podcasts, and some mp4 video) and can list them if anyone thinks this might be the issue. I'd really appreciate any suggestions.
    Thanks,
    M.P.

Thanks for your input, but as far as I understand, this restarting issue is definitely not normal for the Ipod touch. Nowhere online or in the provided literature does it say that the ipod is supposed to automatically restart after shutdown. Ignoring the problem by not shutting it down at all is like saying your broken car is fixed because you're not going to drive it anymore! LOL!
Anyhow, this is a relatively small problem now compared to the volume issues which are occurring with greater and greater frequency. It's gotten to the point where I can no longer even listen to a full song from the album I just bought from itunes! This "cutting out" occurs with and without (listening through internal speaker) headphones attached (several different pairs tested) and while hooked to an audio tuner with a high quality cable. I've blown out the jack on the ipod with compressed air to dislodge any possible dust or debris, and have followed the trouble shooting procedures as outlined in the apple support document. The symptoms lead me to believe that this is not so much simply "a volume issue" as it is a symptom of a much larger problem. The volume slider has now started to jump around on it's own after the volume has cut out, and the song continues to play. I have experienced so many problems (not all listed hear) and have heard so many complaints about the ipod touch, that I'm starting to seriously reconsider my purchase...and I'm a huge Mac fan! I haven't abused my Ipod...if anything I'm over cautious with it.
Could this be software related? Something that will be sorted with an update in a few weeks time?Has anyone experienced or successfully resolved any of the issue that I've listed here - or am I on my own? I'm guessing maybe I should just bring it back...
    Best,
    M.P.

  • NOTHING i do to this Ipod touch is making the BLANK WHITE SCREEN go away......

Please help! I now hook my ipod touch up to my P.C, and it is NOT RECOGNISING my ipod!! Heres the problem AGAIN, let me make myself a little more clear on WHAT a stupid thing i did earlier..... I receieved a message (ON MY IPOD)  saying a new version of I.O.S 6 is available, so it says I needed at least 50% charged, OR had to be plugged in, so I PLUGGED in, and hit the button to update to newest version, then did what I had to do, came BACK to the iPod at 30 min later, and the bar seemed to not be moving, and i had to go to work, so i FORCED A SHUT DOWN by holding the home and the top button together, as i normally would to shut the thing down if something was jammed or whatever....so I did that, and it came back on BY ITSELF with the apple sign, then 5minutes later, the blank screen came up, and NOW every single time I TRY shutting it down, it WON'T STAY OFF, it comes right back on to the apple sign, then back to blank screen every time, can't get it to stay off! And now when I hook to my PC, it's not recognizing the iPod, I don't know how to recover it, cuz the iPod WON'T STAY OFF for me to do it!! And another thing, i let the ipod die completely, then plugged it in to charge, then it came back on as usual by itself, and still done the same thing!! All because i stopped an update in the middle of it updating!! It seems as if i wiped it completely out! But theres gotta be a way to restore??? need to speak with someone on the phone, cuz I don't have the money to spend right now on an apple support person!

Please please READ what I have written before u respond,PLEASE!!because I MANUALLY STOPPED THE UPDATE TO IOS 6 WHILE IT WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF UPDATING (by forcing shutdown in the middle of it all..) and when it turned back on it went right to the white blank screen and has been that way EVER SINCE!! i cannot put in recovery mode, cuz every single time I SHUT my ipod down (by holding the power, and home button at the same time till it shuts down...) it DOES NOT show me the slide bar to power off, and it immediately shuts down (goes black..) then immediately STARTS BACK UP BY ITSELF and shows the APPLE LOGO for about 5 minutes, then goes RIGHT BACK TO THE WHITE, BLANK SCREEN!!!! It will NOT STAY OFF, it WILL NOT SHOW ME THE SLIDE BAR TO POWER OFF MANUALLY, and when I force shutdown, it immediately comes BACK ON BY ITSELF!! And then nothing but white screen! My PC COMPUTER will NOT recognize the iPod as being plugged into USB on my computer for me to RECOVER this IPod, so I do not know what else to do???  I have updated to the latest version of iTunes, and STILL NOTHING!!! This is my kids iPod that I screwed up here, and I am very upset! It's a 4th gen, 32gb iPod touch that is NOT CHEAP at all, and I am freaking out man!!! What do I do?

  • When i open iPhoto, it shows my iPod touch is connected even though it's not.

When I open iPhoto, it shows that my iPod touch 4th generation is connected under the devices tab even though it is not.  Here is a screen shot of what it looks like.
Then when I plug in my iPod, iPhoto still will not open, i still get the same screen image when i manually open it and it will not show me anything that is on the iPod.  I have tried unmounting it in the device tab and restarting iPhoto.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

well, kiss my grits!!  i feel like i am running a pc today.  after making this post i shutdown all my apps and then did a restart, and low and behold when i plugged in my ipod, iphoto opened and it recognized the photos.  go figure all it needed was a restart.

  • Why is my iPod Touch batter draining away so fast?

I got my iPod Touch at GameStop (Refurbished) and my battery on that iPod is draining away faster than usual. I'm using my school Wi-Fi and my battery is going fast. I charge my iPod almost every ten maybe twelve hours. Should I get the battery replaced??? Plus I want to Reset (restore) the whole iPod on my computer but I got a virus on my computer and all my music, movies, and apps are all gone. Also whenever I charge my iPod, the whole iPod feels like its gonna overheat and wants to shutdown completely. (I try alot to charge my battery only at night and at low temp.)

    - Could be the battery. I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store to verify.
    - Apple will replace the battery/exchange the iPod for $79.
    - A third-party place like the following is less expensive. Google for more.

  • Ipod touch 5g battery life problem?

Hi everyone, i just got thenew ipod touch 5g 32gb blue about 3 weeks ago and it runs ios 7.0.4. Now i have been thinking that i might have a bad battery because when i play games the battery runs out in labout 2 hours. i play games like wipeout and clash of clans. Also the ipod touch charges in about 45 mins from about 20 percent to 100 percent. On the apple website it said that it should take 4 hours. I use toua abelkins wall charger. Plz help me because i do not want to retuurn this ipod touch and there is no apple store near where i live. P.S. I have already tried restoring it but to no use. Also i would to know why the battery indicator goes up a lttle when i lock my ipod. Is this a ios 7 issue? I have also tried calibrating the ipod touch by letting the batery fully drain and then charging it up to 100 percent but to no avail. My freinds said that you have to completely drain your battery til auto shutdown when you first get it out of the box but i did not do that so could that bethe problem? And when the ipod auto shuts itself down the i plug in the chargers and it boots up right away, i thoutgh it was supposed to take 10 mins??? Plz help me because i love my ipod very much???!!!

Battery life on the iPod 5 running IOS 7 is well ... poor for gaming. To fully charge it takes around 4 hours +/-. The battery meter jumping around is normal, the metering system on this  iPod is at best an estimate and will vary up and down depending on how hard your working your iPod. Run games or anything with high res. video the meter jumps down, listen to music from you library or put it to sleep and the meter will go up--  And will drive you "NUTS" if you spend to much time watching it. Your game time seems a bit short, but the more stuff going on, higher graphics, using Wi-Fi etc. will drain your iPod in short order. Most seem to get about 3 - 4 hours of gaming, 4 - 6 hours of video, more if watched on lower resolution. 6 - 9 surfing the web,  something around 18 - 20 hours listening to your library with the screen mostly off and about 36 - 40 hours on standby from a fully charged battery. Don't bother with getting the meter replaced with %. It will not work any better, just make you nuts. As for the theory of drain the battery then fully charge it, Bogus! These things use Li-ion batteries, they don't have memory issues like Ni-CAD batteries. Just watch your 20% warning with the battery, thing of it as a low fuel light on your car, when it comes up charge your iPod. You never want to completely drain a Li-ion battery if you ever do it will never charge again, but they have charge protections to prevent you from doing that. Long story short; If your getting something around the use times listed above, it's normal. Goggle C-net about extending battery life many good things to try. Hope this helps, Good luck.

  • My 4th Gen Ipod touch will not get past the apple logo

My 4th Gen Ipod touch will not get past the apple logo (unless the battery is dead, Then it tell me to charge it).  Once it gave me the connect to itunes screen.  I clicked restore in itunes but the ipod went back to the apple logo before the update download finished. I tried calling apple but my over the phone technical support just expired. PLEASE HELP!

This can be a corrupted software/firmware on your iPod touch. If the recovery mode you did was not forced, then try to force it into recovery mode. This is how:
    1. Force it to shut down (note: this sort of shut down should not be preformed unless you are in a situation like this because it is a hardware shutdown and will not attempt to unload software, save unsaved files, safely stop system processes, etc.) to do this, hold down the power/sleep button and home button for about 7 or 10 secs. Also I might be incorrect but I heard that you can just hold down the sleep and home button until the screen goes blank and then immediately let go.
    2. Have iTunes running. Hold down the home button and plug the USB cable that came with your iPod into it. Keep on holding on the home button until a picture of a USB cable going into the iTunes logo appears. You are now in a forced recovery mode. (In case your not so tech-savvy forced recovery is the same as a normal recovery mode that an iPod might do if it knows an update or restore failed.)
    3. iTunes should have shown a pop-up message about it found a iPod in recovery mode. Click OK, click your iPod from the sidebar and click restore. The iPod will show the apple logo for a while and iTunes will say "preparing iPod for restore" and then "waiting for iPod" this was the longest part of updates for me.
    4. iPod will reboot when restore is completed. When I update my iPod it one time showed the apple logo for one whole sync until it showed the slide to unlock screen, so do not worry. P.S if that does not work do a DFU mode restore ( I've been told DFU mode stands for device firmware update mode) I'm running out of room, so google it. Hope this helped ;)

  • My ipod touch 4th generation no longer holds it's charge for more than 40mins,needs new internal battery but I have no idea how to go about this. i love my ipod and don't want it to loose power completely, can anyone help?

My ipod touch 4th generation no longer holds it's charge for more than 40mins from full power, think it needs a new internal battery but have no idea how to go about this and am no longer covered by my guarantee. Can anyone advise me on what's best? Thanks in advance

Using the battery level meter in this manner is comparable to using your car's fuel gauge to calculate miles per gallon. The only thing that matters is the total amount of operating time from full charge to auto-shutdown.
Use an Apple wall-mount charger.  Do NOT use a computer's USB port.  Then, operate it normally until auto shut-down (ignore any low level alerts that may appear).  An irony is that doing that test to determine the total operating time is also the exact procedure necessary to calibrate the battery level meter.
I'm not claiming that you do not have a problem.  I am stating, however, that we don't yet know whether or not a battery problem exists.
    According to Apple:
    Use Your iPod Regularly
For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).
Elsewhere, Apple elaborates and explains that two half-discharges (or four quarter-discharges, etc.) equals one full discharge.

  • IPod touch 4G battery issue with iOs5...battery goes dry in less than a day after upgrading to iOs 5...why is that?

    hi people out there...!
I have an iPod Touch 4G purchased on november 2010, and since then until two days ago, I had iOs 4.3.x and everything went very good about battery charge...I used to have my iPod on standby mode for several days, and never had a trouble with it...
but two days ago, I upgraded to iOs 5, and then and there, the troubles began...my battery lasts no more than a day, even on standby mode...
NO wifi on, NO bluetooth on, no movies watched, no games played, just using Virtuoso Piano free app for minutes...
is the new iOs 5 having trouble about managing battery?
anyone of you have same trouble?
anyone of you know about a solution?
I was searching on the web about this issue, and several comments I've found out, but I would like to know about it from the Apple themselves...
thanks for your time people...Light to all of us...!!!

Using the battery level meter in this manner is comparable to using your car's fuel gauge to calculate miles per gallon.  The only thing that matters is the total amount of operating time from full charge to auto-shutdown.
Use the wall-mount charger that came with the iPad and charge overnight.  Admittedly the labeling is hard to read but, if you use a magnifier and squint your eyes, you'll see "Output 5.1V, 2.1A."  The symbol between volts and amps is the symbol for DC.  Do NOT use an iPhone charger.  Do NOT use an iPod charger.  Then, operate it normally until auto shut-down (ignore any low level alerts that may appear).  An irony is that doing that test to determine the total operating time is also the exact procedure necessary to calibrate the battery level meter..
