Ipod touch 32GIG - Mail Issue

Hi!
I'm having trouble with the Mail client on the iPod Touch. My settings are correct for my mail service but I keep getting the message:
Cannot Get Mail
The connection to the server
"pop.cogeco.ca" failed.
Has anyone been able to figure this out?
Thanks:
Martin

Here's one shot in the dark suggestion. When I had similar connection problems I noticed that the port number as shown in Thunderbird on Windows was different than the Server Port number on my iPod in the mail configuration advanced settings.
When these port numbers matched my mail connections were resolved.

The problem has been fixed with the most recent OS X software update.

  • IPod touch and mail syncing

I thought I saw a video on Apple's site showing that you could organize mail on the touch and it would show those changes on your computer. For example, if I delete a message on the touch, it will be deleted on my computer. Is this possible? It seems kind of redundant to have to go through the same messages twice. Thanks for any help with this issue.

You can try this to see. Plug your iPod touch in the computer. When iTunes pops up and you're on the iPod preference screen, click info. Scroll down to the Mail section and check to sync your e-mail. After that's done, go to the Mail app on your iPod touch. It should display the inbox. There is a button on the upper left that says Mailbox. You're folders should be synced (not sure about Smart Folders, but I think it should).

When it goes to standby, the wifi turns off to conserve power. Once out of standby, it reconnects to wifi and then push begins. - iPod Touch Forum Post

If this is true, there is an app that must be using the push feature on the iPad. Causing it to lock up routers.

A very good theory I think. I've noticed that behavior for a long time at work with my MBP and an older Linksys 8-porty router. I don't use it much there, but have been aware that it can kill the WiFi at times if it looks for Mail before connecting. Ethernet does not seem to be affected but still have to re-set the router.
When awakening, I can see full bars, then it goes off, then full bars again. Negotiates further then connects.

  • IPod Touch Email Connection Issues (Cox)

I would appreciate any guidance. I have a system running XP SP2, with a Motorola cable modem (Cox internet provider), and a Linksys router. I just set-up my 32GB Ipod touch - and wireless Safari access is working great.
I'm trying to set-up Cox email, and can't get it running. I keep getting "Secure Connection Failed. The certificate for <my email address> may be invalid." on my iPod touch. I use Outlook Express on my PC and am simply duplicating the settings on my iPOD. I'm thinking I may be missing something simple. Here are my iPOD touch settings:
    Name: <Entered My Name>
    Address: <Entered My Email Address>
    Description: <Entered My Chosen Description>
    INCOMING MAIL SERVER:
    Host Name: pop.west.cox.net
    User Name: <Entered My Username>
    Password: <Entered My Password>
    OUTGOING MAIL SERVER:
    Host Name: smtp.west.cox.net
    User Name: <Not required - leave blank>
    Password: <Not required - leave blank>
Once I save the settings I get the error.
Any thoughts, or guidance? Has anyone heard of problems getting email working with Cox as a provider?
    Thanks Again - Brett

hmm a quick google search might help you. (search before you ask)

"I called Apple support regarding this issue today and managed to get my problem resolved. When I went to add a new mail account it gave me the same error posted above... however, if you click "Continue" and wait about 2-3 minutes (yes, minutes) the iPod will come back and ask you if you want to try creating the mail account without SSL. Another window will come up after about 2 minutes confirming that it cannot create an account with SSL, and then prompt you again if you want to go ahead and create the non-SSL account. You click yes, wait ANOTHER 2 minute and voila. It jumps back to the main settings screen and you have a working mail account.
Their support representative said it sounded like they would be releasing a patch in the future to make this easier (and reduce the timeout for SSL testing so you don't have to wait so long)."

  • IPOD TOUCH & APPLE MAIL ACCOUNT

I Updated software to 4.0 on my 8 GB IPod Touch and when I did the apple mailbox on the touch does not show the sent, trash or junk folders.
How do I get them back? Now all I show in the Apple mail account is the in box.
This however is not true of my Yahoo Account. It kept all 17 folders that I have in that account including the sent, trash & junk folders.

I have the same issue. At least we know it not just us. I did have issues when upgrading. My iPod immediately went through a restore after installing the upgrade but couldn't complete due to an error. Couldn't sync music due to "could not be found". Restarted the computer and it solved that problem. Don't know if I can restore but don't need to now.
Supposedly another update is coming this week to fix the bugs. Then another will release to fix the new bugs and so on. Such is life with software.

  • IPod touch 5 lag issue running iOS 8.1 ( PLEASE RESOLVE THIS ASAP)

OMG, i'm just fed up of using this iPod 5 after this new update of apple's iOS 8.1.  I did checkout iOS 8.1.1 but as it bought no changes to the performance i just downgraded it back to iOS 8.1. Well performance really matters on a device. The day i updated it to iOS 8, my iPod 5's performance has been sluggish and worse when compared to the old iOS 7.1.2 . If i had chance to downgrade it now i would do it asap but unfortunately there isn't any way but to suffer with this new sluggish iOS 8.1. If there is someway that apple can help us then its by increasing the performance on such A5 devices like iPhone 4S, iPad..., iPod touch 5, then please help us. If i ask this question "Is there anyway to increase or speed up my performance of my iPod 5", Then the reply from you people would be to either buy a new device by dumping this or to remove background apps, reduce motion etc. (WHICH I HAVE ALREADY DONE.) and the performance is WORSE or UNBEARABLE  on this device after updating to iOS 8 - iOS 8.1. When i just tap settings it takes about 3 - 4 secs or more to show up which is too bad. Please try to solve this issue on older devices running A5 chip by either giving us an another opportunity to downgrade to iOS 6 or 7 (PLEASE) or by improving this current OS performance issue just like iOS 7. I request you to solve this issues for the people like us who are an APPLE fan and still using devices running A5 chip and we just like it so much but please don't let us hate it by making it's performance worse. Yes, i do know that the all new iOS 8 was made for the newer devices running new CHIP, but then why did the update just come up for devices running A5 chip then if it would ruin the performance? Or was this is a marketing strategy to make our device's performance unbearable and worse so we hate it and buy a new device so you can increase your sales? Everyone cannot afford a device just like that as time goes. I further pledge you people to solve this sluggish performance issue on these older device who got this iOS 8 updates (RUNNING A5 chip).
Thank You for your time for reading my message.

  • IPod Touch 4th Generation issue - no longer able to view Device in iTunes?  I can't add, Sync, Back Up or Restore?

The PC’s I use have Windows 7 installed along with the latest version of iTunes.  I have
previously deleted all components of iTunes and re-installed.  This made no difference. The PC’s do not recognise my iPod in the Windows Device Manager using ‘devmgmt.msc’.  and still nothing in iTunes.
    Also C:\Program files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers / - do notlist ‘usbaapl64’.
The folders listed are ‘usbaapl.cat’, ‘usbaapl.inf’,‘usbaapl.sys’ and ‘usbaaplrc.dll’.
Whether this makes a difference I do not know.
iTunes doesn’t recognise my iPod either however it recognises my attached iPhones OK
(iTunes/File/Devices) with the options of Sync; Transfer Purchases and Back Up being available.
When my iPod is connected, iTunes shows the File ‘Devices’ sections as being inaccessibly greyed out.
So to reiterate, I have tried multiple computers and a variety of Windows operating systems (but I’m running Windows 7) with absolutely no success; the ‘Device Manager/Universal Serial Bus controllers/Apple Mobile Device USB Driver’ appears with my iPhone but nothing for my iPod; the Apple Mobile Device Support is installed;  all my USB cables work OK; the device does not appear in Windows or in iTunes; iTunes has been fully uninstalled and reinstalled; the version of iTunes is up to date; the iOS of the iPod Touch shows it is up to date at version 6.1.6 (and cannot be changed) and even a hard reset has been tried.  Everything tried and suggested with complete failure.
I can use a USB port to charge up my iPod and can still receive e-mails, updates to apps and can play songs but I can’t add any new songs or update iOS.  There are no error codes because as far as the computer and/or iTunes is concerned, there is no connected iPod. My iPod used to work perfectly.   Also I tried the Apple iPod forum without success and was advised to try the iTunes community support.
    Please help!  Thank you.

I'm having the same problem with my 4th gen iPod touch. After the update my iPod synched and wiped all my music off - apps & podcasts weren't affected. Restored it a couple of times and that didn't work.
I tried copying a couple of albums over and it would do a couple of songs then the rest of the album would look like it had copied instantly. I tried playing the songs and it would play the first couple of songs once, then it came up with ! Beside every song (including the ones I'd just played and said they weren't on my iPod.
I've removed iTunes from my laptop and downloaded the few iTunes bought albums over WiFi to my iPod. The rest of my music is from cds or mixes/podcasts downloaded from soundcloud so I've had to use a different program to copy some of this music to my iPod for the time being until I can see how to sort this out.

  • 1st gen iPod touch wifi connection issue, grayed out wifi area in settings

I have a first generation iPod touch and I'm having difficulty connectiong to wifi.  It tells me there is "no wifi" and the wifi area in settings is grayed out.  I have never encountered this problem in the seven months I've owned this device.  My wifi is currently being used by the other three devices that normally share it with my iPod, and they're running just fine as usual.  I've already tried restoring my iPod, as well as updating my iTunes to the newest possible software, then restarting the computer.  I've looked through all of Apple's troubleshooting guides, to no avail.  Any tips from people who've had the same issue or actually understand technology?  All help is greatly appreciated!

  • Brand New Ipod Touch and already issues

Alright, before I begin, I'm running 32bit Windows Vista Home Premium on an AMD Dual Core 1.9ghz processor with 2gb ram, as well I've had an iPod Nano before getting this iPod Touch without any problems before hand.
I've uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled with a clean download from the apple website of iTunes (To ensure new drivers, etc), I plug in my iPod Touch to let it charge and to connect to start transferring music. I start up iTunes, plug my iPod Touch, first thing I see on the screen of my iPod is an error from what I've researched before writing this post. A USB cord with an arrow pointing to the iTunes logo.
First thing I do, I've already uninstalled/reinstalled iTunes, restarted my computer, and ensured that iTunes was up to date. Check, check, and check.
I had also noticed while my iPod was plugged in, was that whenever I would try to connect it to iTunes, I would be presented with was : "This iPod cannot be used because the Apple mobile device service is not started."
Thought to myself, that's odd. I went to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services, located "Apple Mobile Device", and next to it was blank. No "Started", no "Stopped", nothing, just blank. I right clicked on the service and went to properties to check and see if it was set to start up, it was set to Automatic. I switch to Manual, tried to start it again but presented with "The Apple Mobile Device service started then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs", Switched it back to Automatic, same issue.
Take into consideration, I have my avast! antivirus down. So I have no issues with antivirus/firewall going on right now.
I have checked my drivers for the iPod under Device Manager, Apple Mobile Device has shown up and has been installed correctly, including "USBAAPL.SYS", was showing no problems installing.
I sincerely do not know what to do beyond this point. I figure something is wrong with the Service, either that or iTunes is royally screwing something up. The error on the iPod I know means that it needs to restore itself with the help from iTunes, but iTunes is neglecting its presence (To my knowledge)

not sure, but i think bonjour also has to be running. check it out.
ah, under the startup type, are u saying that field is blank, rather than "manual", "automatic", "automatic (delayed start)" or "disabled"??

  • IPod touch 8GB screen issue

I posted this in another forum, but I didn't get any replies. So I'll post it here.
Hi guys. I've been trying to fix this problem ever since it occurred (a few weeks after I received my iPod... I've had it for around a year and a half now), but something like this has never happened before.
I just updated my 8GB iPod touch to iOS 4 a few days back (I also updated to iTunes 10). Now, when I'm on my 'Songs' list, and I try to scroll down using the right side's little list thing (A to #), the screen doesn't respond. I'm also having issues with the keyboard--the letter 'P' to the far right of the keyboard won't respond when I casually touch it--I need to put more pressure on it then the other letters. As for the right hand side song list, it only responds to me sometimes, if I'm pressing down really hard. This never happened to me before iOS 4, and it's becoming a huge nuisance.
The side list works if I press down hard with my thumb/any other finger. But I can't just touch only one letter any more--I have to keep an even pressure on the entire list.
This is annoying. Is it also an update? Because that doesn't make any sense... the 'P' button on the keyboard still isn't working properly, though.
I tried a soft reset, then I tried a hard reset and restore. Didn't work.
I read on some other sites that this can be an effect of updates, but I'm not too sure about it. I even took off my protective cover to see if the screen worked/responded better. It doesn't. Plus I don't think I have a warranty for it, and I bought this iPod from Wal-Mart, not an Apple store.
Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.
P.S. If I downgrade my iTunes to 9.2, can I restore my iPod touch's firmware back to 3.1.3? Just wondering. Thanks.

Thanks, you guys, for replying! I was getting scared.
    Really? You're kidding... I don't want to replace the screen. DD: I mean, it's happened to me before. I hope it'll go away in the next update because I swear, it was working fine before this. I didn't know my iPod had a hardware issue either. {sigh}
SpyglassSally: "If you've done a restore, and the touch screen is still not responding correctly, I think you need to bring it in to an Apple store or check out Service and Repair Online. The link can tell you your warranty info, regardless of where you purchased it. Your warranty is from Apple.
    Hope that answers your question."
I don't know if they warranty still applies. I'm pretty sure it's been a year since I first got it. Thanks, though.
Thanks for giving me this information, though. I appreciate it.

  • IPod touch 4G battery issue with iOs5...battery goes dry in less than a day after upgrading to iOs 5...why is that?

    hi people out there...!
I have an iPod Touch 4G purchased on november 2010, and since then until two days ago, I had iOs 4.3.x and everything went very good about battery charge...I used to have my iPod on standby mode for several days, and never had a trouble with it...
but two days ago, I upgraded to iOs 5, and then and there, the troubles began...my battery lasts no more than a day, even on standby mode...
NO wifi on, NO bluetooth on, no movies watched, no games played, just using Virtuoso Piano free app for minutes...
is the new iOs 5 having trouble about managing battery?
anyone of you have same trouble?
anyone of you know about a solution?
I was searching on the web about this issue, and several comments I've found out, but I would like to know about it from the Apple themselves...
thanks for your time people...Light to all of us...!!!

Using the battery level meter in this manner is comparable to using your car's fuel gauge to calculate miles per gallon.  The only thing that matters is the total amount of operating time from full charge to auto-shutdown.
Use the wall-mount charger that came with the iPad and charge overnight.  Admittedly the labeling is hard to read but, if you use a magnifier and squint your eyes, you'll see "Output 5.1V, 2.1A."  The symbol between volts and amps is the symbol for DC.  Do NOT use an iPhone charger.  Do NOT use an iPod charger.  Then, operate it normally until auto shut-down (ignore any low level alerts that may appear).  An irony is that doing that test to determine the total operating time is also the exact procedure necessary to calibrate the battery level meter..
I'm not claiming that you do not have a problem.  I am stating, however, that we don't yet know whether or not a battery problem exists.
    According to Apple:
    Use Your iPad Regularly
For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).
Elsewhere, Apple elaborates and explains that two half-discharges (or four quarter-discharges, etc.) equals one full discharge.
I'm not saying that you don't have a problem.  However, I am saying that we don't know.

  • IPod Touch Music Syncing Issue

Using iTunes 10.7, I'm trying to add music to my 4G iPod touch running 6.1.2.  The files appear within the iPod sidebar Music tab, greyed out with the sync icon next to them but they never finish copying; they just stay grey and nothing happens.  I am able to select and delete them, and they remain after I unplug and plug back in, but the iPod never shows anything in Music.  When I add files manually, the sync icon replaces the sidebar eject icon, during which time it is able to create playlists in the sidebar, but then the sync ends immediately and the iTunes status bar never displays the copying process, just the Apple logo.  Same thing happens whether I add 1 file or 100 files.  Same thing happens whether I sync music automatically or manually (I have switched between the two methods several times).  I have tried adding new files and different file formats to my iTunes library; those ones don't work either.  I have also tried restoring from the iPod backup, and resetting the iPod entirely, but I still get the same result.  Additionally, I am able to manage Apps as usual.
Anybody have any ideas?  As a last resort, I may try re-installing iTunes 10.7, but I would prefer to find a fix for this without upgrading iTunes to 11 or 12.

I had already tried that and I got the same problem.  I did get the issue resolved, although I don't know the reason it was acting up.  What I did was upgrade iTunes to iTunes 11, update the iPod to 6.1.6, then downgrade back to iTunes 10.7

  • Ipod touch g2 wifi issue

    Hi All,
just got my new 2nd generation ipod touch yesterday, it's running on the newest version (2.1). But now i'm encountering problems when contacting to the network.
At home it wouldn't work at all, when connecting it always says "could not connect to ..." where .. is the name of the hotspot. I have a first generation ipod touch which has no problems to connect to the hotspot at all.
At work I am able to connect just fine...
I read in another forum that there was a similar issue with version 2.0.. but it seems that this was resolved.
Anyone out there with some clues about this?

You could also try resetting your network settings.
I also have a IPT 2G, and cannot connect to our WiFi. But I've given up because on my IPT 1G I couldn't connect either and it's too much of a headache to try and make it work so I've gone without internet since I got the new one. :/
    Good luck!

  • IPod Touch to OS4 - Issue

I've read a few topics where people have had either issues after upgrade or said it went smoothly but I can't seem to find anything on this. I have an iPod touch and an iPhone. The upgrade to the new OS on my iPhone was smooth as silk. It went quickly, did it's thing... beautiful! The upgrade on my iPod touch however...
There isn't much on this iPod other than apps but when it goes to start the backup process, after 30 minutes, the progress bar has a tiny little sliver. I've canceled it at this point because my husband wants his iPod back but anyone have a clue what's going on here?

Mine took rather a while (it's a second generation one). I left it over night & it was fine the following morning.
