IPod Touch 3rd Gen-- hot to touch, losing charge quickly

IPod Touch 3G has been losing charge rather quickly , today it started getting extremely hot on back bottom- is it dying?

It sounds like you have a hardware problem. I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • IPod touch losing charge

My iPod touch is 6 months old, but it is losing charge faster than it should. I took it in recently, and I was told that the problem was memory issues. I was asked to fully restore it as a new one. I did this, but it still has the same problem. I will take it in again, but in the meantime, has anyone else experienced the problem? If so, how is it solved?

Almost sounds like a failing battery. How fast is fast, what are you running when the battery drains fast?

  • New iPod Touch losing charge w/out use

I received a new iPod Touch for Christmas, and while it will charge in the time specified in the manual it will not hold a charge like the manual says ("Even in sleep, iPod uses a small amount of current, and the battery slowly empties. Stored at optimal storage temperature, the battery will empty in 14 to 28 days.").
If left in sleep mode without my using it at all, it loses charge in less than 24 hours, drains down to nothing even when I make sure all apps are closed and wifi is off.  Is this at all normal, or do I have a faulty battery?  I have an iPad, and it will go for days without needing charged when I'm not using it.  Is there some setting I need to use for my iPod so that it doesn't drain?
Thanks in advance for any help; I just haven't had time to take it into my local Apple store and ask.

See the suggestions in the following for maximizing battery life. What I do is place the iPod in airplane mode overnight to minimize batter drain.

my ipod touch 3rd gen wont turn on or charge, laptop doesnt even detect it. no indication that its charging even in laptop no heat up at the back. how can i fix it? it happened after i plugged it in a socket then shows not supported with this accessory....help please.........thanks

    Try:
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • I can't get my iPod Classic (3rd gen) to reset. Device won't connect to iPod server.

I have an iPod 3rd gen classic with the 160 GB HDD.  All attempts at resetting the device elicit a dialog that states that iTunes can't read the contents of the iPod and that I should go to the summary tab in iPod preferences to click restore to factory settings. When I hit OK the iPod appears in the devices list in iTunes and the title box appears identifying the iPod by serial number, but notes the capacity of the device as 0 KB. My only option is to press the restore iPod button. As soon as the button is pressed I get a dialog which states that iTunes cannot access the iPod software server because I am not connected to the internet. This behavior has been consistent in 2 versions of iTunes (I just got 11.1.5.5) and 2 versions of iPod software (now 2.0.4 up from 2.0.2).
I got into the iPod diagnostics (center + previous, FYI) and tested the drive which appears to be fine. I'm going fairly nuts with this 'cause I gots to have my tunes and have been diligent about troubleshooting only to hit this wall. Any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Dave

    Hi Dave,
Have you checked to verify your iPod is a Classic 3rd gen? Apple's website is kind of confusing when classifying the different generations of the Classic iPods. My thoughts on the differing classifications of iPod Classics are as such:  http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_iPod_models (scroll down to models) I have just finished replacing the battery in a friend's iPod Classic 3rd Generation and found that they only made a 10, 15, 20, 30, and 40 GB hard drive for those that look as such: 2003-2009 with 4 buttons across the top (back track, menu, play/pause, and forward track) and beneath that is the touch wheel (pictured below is an example of how iPod Classic 3rd Gens look).  If that is the case, someone may have upgraded the wrong size hard drive.  The previous person may have instead installed a compact flash card.  If I researched correctly, when upgrading to a compact flash card the iPod can be very touchy with which manufacturer of the compact flash card will work properly.  If you click on the link and scroll down to posts, some people have specified which compact flash cards work.  Best wishes.  Please let me know if you were able to resolve your issue. -joe p  http://www.tarkan.info/20080506/blog/iflash-compact-flash-compatibility-help-nee ded

  • IPod Nano 3rd Gen won't play AIFF files from Logic Pro 9

Hi, so I've bounced a few tracks I was working on in Logic pro 9 as AIFF files, imported them into iTunes and then synced them down to both an iPod Touch 2nd gen and this iPod Nano 3rd Gen. The tracks play fine on the iPod Touch, but on the Nano, when I try to play a track, it shoes the "player" screen for a second, but it always bounces back to the track listing.
According to the iPod Nano 3rd gen spec sheet, it does support AIFF files:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP14
Any idea as to why this is happening?
Also, I'm on Mac OS X 10.6.4, iTunes 9.2 and I reset the iPod nano just before starting this whole project.
I'd like to keep the tracks in AIFF if possible...

    Greetings WonderfulT1,
If you are having an issue with being unable to start your iPod nano when it is not connected to the computer, I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps on this page -

  • Ipod shuffle 3rd gen volume control issue

I have IPod Touch and IPod Shuffle 3rd gen and I bought a new pair of headphones in the Apple store in London few months back and the headphones were totally fine when used in IPod Touch. Yesterday I put them into my IPod Shuffle and I am experiencing a problem with the volume - I can't put it up or down.
It's not the "limit volume" thing, I already tried that...
    Any suggestions..?

    Hey paralelopipak,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like the headphones have a volume problem only on this iPod. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.

  • Ipod Shuffle 3rd gen is working great and is perfect for my needs

I just wanted to post that my iPod Shuffle 3rd gen is working great. No problems and I love it. I use it mainly for listening to podcasts. As soon as I turn it on it begins on the podcast I last listened to --where I was in the middle of the podcast. I stick the Shuffle in my pocket and all I ever have to do is use the headphone controls to pause, move forward or backward in the podcast, skip to the next one, or go back to the beginning, etc. I also love to be able to use the volume control on the headset without having to fumble around for my Shuffle in my pocket where it is safely tucked and won't get knocked off or damaged. I listen to my Shuffle for a few hours a day when doing yard work, household tasks and driving back and forth to work.
All the features are working just the way they are supposed to on my Shuffle. There are a bunch of negative posts about the Shuffle and I just wanted to say that mine works great and I enjoy it very much. I have had the Shuffle for 4 weeks and have not had any problems whatsoever. I own several other models of iPods (first version Mini, Video 60gb, Nano 1 & 2, Shuffle 1,2,& 3, Touch) But the handsfree/visual free ability of this 3rd gen Shuffle is great and very useful for me.
    Just my two cents.

    Linda,
No I just use one earbud in my ear. I put the earbud in my right ear--away from the window side and it is also the one with the in-line controls, so that works great. I don't put it on very loud either.
If I am not listening to a podcast and just want to hear music I sometimes will plug it into a line-in cable, but then I don't have a choice on what I am listening to. It's not a real problem because I like all the songs I have on it anyway. I can still adjust the volume on the car stereo, so that is the way I do it.
I am watching closely for any accessories that might allow a headphone splitter to work, but nothing so far. I am sure we will see some useful additions in the near future. And by the way, the earbuds that came with it work great in my ears--never fall out and are comfortable to me.

  • Ipod shuffle 3rd gen does not shuffle any more in shuffle mode

    Hi all,
I have a ipod shuffle 3rd gen. It does not shuffle the play list even if it is in the shuffle mode.
    anyone came across this issue?

    Try in order:
    - Resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore the iPod via iTunes on your computer.  First from backup and if problem persists restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
-- If iTunes does not se the ipod try placing the iPod first in recovery mode and then in DFU mode.

  • IPod touch wall charger

can I use a wall charger for my iPod? My uncle bought a wall charger but it's not from Apple and also can I charge my iPod if it's only in 20%?

The iPod touch only charges via USB and therefore you need to find a USB wall charger, for instance Apple sell one.
The reason that older chargers, docks, speakers etc don't charge the latest iPods is that they use Firewire power which is no longer supported on iPods.
The 3rd party dock that you have is not compatible with newer iPod because of what I have described above.
The best option is the following Apple USB charger :-
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB352LL/B?fnode=MTY1NDA4NA&mco=MjQzMzEzNw
As you can see it is fully compatible with your iPod touch.

  • My ipod nano 3rd gen gets error code -9459 when I try to convert a video in Itunes

I'm tring to convert video from Youtube to play on my ipod nano 3rd gen.  When i go to itunes and Advanced and set it to convert for ipod it goes on for quite a while then about 3/4 way done I get error message Erroe occurred converting file "teapot 1". An unknown error (-9459)
What do I do?  I tried Real player converter too - no luck.

I'm not sure about the error message, but it might just be easier to use an application such as Handbrake or MPEG Streamclip to create an iPod compatible version of the video.

  • Ipod nano 3rd Gen not recognized by itunes or windows 7

    USB device not recognized.
    things I have done
put Ipod in disk mode still didn't recognized
My Ipod Classic 6th Gen works fine
It shows 3 Mass Storage Device
when I plug in Ipod nano 3rd gen it shows unknow device
have deleted Mass storage devices and Apple Moble Devices
    unpluged computer from wall
    nothing solving problem
I also tried it on my laptop its not being recognized
my wife Ipod nano is doing the same thing as mine
its got to be the software download from itunes because it has worked on all previous versions.

I have the same problem. My Iphone 4s works fine when docked to PC. PC won't recognize my 3rd Gen Nano. Same goes for my Work PC. They don't recognize it nor will plugging it in to a PC charge it. I have to plug it into wall socket to charge.
I have tried resetting, I have tried downloading newest Itunes.
Must be the Nano itself if it doesn't get recognized by mutliple PCs?
I haven't used the Nano for probably 2 months. Previously it worked fine...
One thing, when docked to my laptop during a reboot/startup, it intially starts to charge the Nano, but once setup is finished it doesn't recognize it any longer...

  • My iPod touch wont charge or turn on?

My iPod touch was not fully charged but it had some charge and then it just turned off and now it won't turn back on. I plugged my iPod touch into charge and the red battery and lightning symbol comes on but that is still there a couple of hours later. If I unplug it it, is just a black screen and no matter what I do nothing happens. I can't turn it on and I have tried several different chargers that work for other devices so it is not the charger. I am abroad so I haven't got my laptop to see if it will charge that way or be detected in iTunes. I have tried resetting it and restarting it but nothing seems to be working. Has anyone had this problem or know how to fix it? Any suggestions would be nice. Thank you.
