Ipod touch 3rd generation can´t install apps
I have a problem with apple.
I bought a Ipod touch of the 3rd generation and I can´t install any apps the problem is that my ipod said You need ios 6 to install this app.I bought them in 2010.
How can I fix this problem? I have ios 5.1.1.I would be okay that apple update my ipod to the version 8 of ios.
I think that is a case of programmed obsolescence.
I am very angry. I think that bought an ipod with only 5 years of use and then happens this. I find it amazing.

Unfortunately that is the case with any kind of technology. Components get older and new software is designed to take advantage of current day technologies. The iPod touch 3rd generation is 6 years old which is a very long time in the age of technology. This may seem like a cop out answer but this iPod touch just could not handle current day software. Lets put it in perspective. If Apple updated that iPod touch to iOS 8.x then it would not have the power to handle even the simplest of operations. The iPod touch 3rd generation still works with iOS 5.x and allows you to use it as you did 6 years ago. Applications also get updated as well to support the newer technologies and with that they drop support for older hardware. Apps that had versions on the App Store that at some point in time supported your iPod, it will give you the option to install the older version. I am not saying Apple does not have planned obsolescence, what I am saying is that your iPod still functions because it does not use new software.

Thanks for the great suggestions! I just worked out how to fix it! For some reason, I had to manually transfer the purchases from the ipod to the computer (never have had to do that before). Once I did that and re-synced, it worked fine.
BTW, answers to your questions in case it helps someone else:

-yes, always use the same computer to sync
-yes, always the same account
-yes, error message was "Itunes cannot sync apps to the ipod because the apps installed on the ipod could not be determined."

Does Ipod Touch 3rd generation sync with newer apps?
I am thinking of buying an Ipod Touch 3rd generation, but am concerned that it is old technology as far as apps and games go and will be wasting my money. Does anyone have any information about this?

Ipod touch 2nd Generation can't download Apps?
My nephew was given a ipod touch 4th generation, and so he gave me his ipod touch 2nd generation; after resetting the ipod and setting up an account on itunes, as well as authorising my computer, this ipod can not download apps like angry birds, however it could before! Please explain why this is and how i can fix this?
The 2G can only go as high as 4.2.1
Many developers when they updated their apps to support iOS 5 and 6 dropped compatibility for iOS 4.2.1 and earlier.
Your only way is if you have the version that was compatible on your computer such as in the recycle bin/trash or in a computer file backup. In that case delete the current version that is in your iTunes App library and replace it with the older version. Then sync.

I have tried to download multiple apps but a message keeps popping up to say that it requires iOS 7.0. I have an Ipod touch (4th Generation) by the way, and I have gone to the software update to find that it says 'iOS 6.1.6, your software is up to date'. I have no idea what to do. Thanks
I tried that but I realized that the apps weren't installed yet, so I installed the apps but the same message keeps popping up, saying that it need an iOS 7.0 to be able to install. What's really is confusing is that my friend also has and Ipod Touch (4th Generation) and that problem never occurred to her, and we had the same iOS. The apps that I a trying to install are Phonto and Gmail, and on their description boxes it states that they are both compatible with iOS 7.0 and later. Lulu xI suspect you really have a 2G iPod. Those can only go to iOS 4.2.1.

- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I have an iPod touch 3rd generation and my safari and mail app won't work and it's driving me crazy! My safari app keeps crashing when I open it so that's not working, and my mail app opens up but doesnt load then crashes. Can somebody tell what to do?!!!

Jailbreaking cannot be discussed on Apple forums., except to point you to the following article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3743 which will let you know why Apple strongly cautions against "jailbreaking".
You could sell your current iPod and buy a new one, which will be able to use iOS 5.
