Ipod touch 3rd generation screen very dim.

I will admit that the ipod was submerged in a puddle briefly (2-3 seconds).  It was turned on directly after event and screen was very dim.  It was not charged.  It was put in a bag of rice for 24 hours.  Ipod came on after rice bath but screen was very dim (with brief moments of brightness when first turned on) and displayed only sync message.  Sync was done and restore was required.  Ipod continues to have brief moments of brightness when first turned on.  Restore was successful for everything except screen.  Screen can only be seen in very bright direct lighting.  I have attempted to sleep/wake the ipod with different brightness settings in dark room and different settings of auto-brightness to no avail.  Cost to send to Apple is substantial and may be as cost effective as purchasing new product.  Seems like it is a setting that I cannot find.  Current version is 4.3.2.  I have read and this seems to be a fairly common occurance than dates back many years and would think a correction would have been created or a patch.  A hardware problem due to water damage does not seem likely because of moments of previous integrity.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you can't reach settings, do this:
Zoom in or out: Double-tap the screen with three fingers. By default, the screen is magnified 200 percent. If you manually change the magnification (by using the tap-and-drag gesture, described below), iPod touch automatically returns to that magnification when you zoom in by double-tapping with three fingers.

  • The screen on my ipod touch 3rd generation will not respond to touch, it will not work at all.

My ipod touch 3rd generation fell off of a chair, it worked ok fow a while then the bottom half of the screen would not work, now the entire screen is not working
I'm not sure what to do.

You can try the following to rule out a software probem:
    - Reset:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to  factory defaults/new iPod
If you still have the problem they yu very likely have a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Ipod Touch, 3rd generation, blue striped screen, then... nothing

I have an ipod touch 3rd generation, version 4.2.1 (I think), model A1288, 8gb.  A month ago it stopped working and wouldn't respond to a reset by pushing the on and home buttons together, and it wasn't recognized by itunes or by my Vista OS laptop.
After sitting for weeks, the battery must have died and I charged it and it turned on and it seemed to work fine for a day.  Then overnight it crashed and died again.  I don't know what caused the crash, it wasn't being used at the time.  When I reset it following the crash, I got the apple logo, but nothing more... and then a black screen.  When I reset it again, I got a purplish, blue laterally striped screen with the apple logo in the middle ...and then it turned black and wouldn't respond.
Since that time, nothing I do will cause it to turn on or respond in any way.  No apple logo, no screen activity of any kind.   When I connect it to itunes, the computer doesn't recognize it and itunes doesn't respond to it.  When I connect my ipad to itunes, it's recognized just fine.  I've never seen this before.  Any ideas on how I should proceed with repairing this?  If I could get it to start up, I could look for updates and uninstall apps to try to eliminate a conflict, but I can't get it to respond at all.  Thanks for any ideas or help you can offer.

    - After charging for at least an hour see if placing the iPod in Recovery mode will allow a restore.
    - Next try DFU mode

  • I have an iPod touch, 3rd generation, and when I push the button to put it to sleep, my iPod takes a screen shot.  It's really annoying.  Is this a result from updating to iOS 4.3.3?  Also, my screen is EXTREMELY sensitive-breathe on it and it turns on.

    - Are you also having problems with the Home button?  Maybe it is sticking a little since to take a screen shot you depress the Home and Power/Sleep buttons at the same time.
    - I have not seen your problem discussed here before.
    - I would first try resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home

    - Next would be to restore the iPod via iTunes.  First from backup and if problem persists, restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

  • Ipod Touch 3rd Generation does not get to start-up screen

    Help!
my ipod touch 3rd generation will not load the start-up screen but follows a cycle, connecting to the USB port of a computer the ipod shows Battery Low
Indication; after about 3 minutes of charging the Apple logo appears and remains for approximately 3-5 minutes before the ipod turns off, and this cycles with
    battery charge.
The ipod cannot be reset, and when connected to a computer running iTunes the ipod is not recognised, leaving me unable to follow the restoration or recovery

  • Ipod Touch 3rd generation battery life

I couldn't find an answer to support this question, so I'm putting up a new post. I recently got the new ipod touch 3rd generation (32gb) a few weeks ago. I got the customization so it shipped directly from China. I seem to be having a problem with horrendous battery life and I don't know if it is a bad one or not. I have the BT always turned off and wi-fi most of the time, but I find that my battery drains from fully charged very quickly, especially if I access wifi. My ipod can drop 50% battery life in 20-30 minutes just "surfing" for apps or accessing a safari link from, for example, the kindle app or nytimes app. I am aware that some apps use more power than others, but I'm finding this life thing horrendous. I have the screen set pretty dim, only use the email function "on access" (no 'push' enabled), no auto-sync for nytimes, etc. I don't know what to do as this was as customized engraving iPod and I feel like everyone I know has fine battery life. Any help much appreciated. We have an Apple Store here in town but can they check it out for me? It has the 3.1.2 version software. Thanks!

  • IPod Touch 3rd generation is not turning on and gets really hot when I plug it in but is not charging...

I have an iPod Touch 3rd generation and yesterday I was using it and noticed that it reset to a different time zone and when I dug a little deeper realized that it reset the date to December of 1969. I just went in and changed it all back. I was out of the house all day today and didn't take it with me, when I went to use it, it wouldn't turn on. I assumed it was dead, so I plugged it in and got ready for bed. I realized that the charging screen never appeared and it never made the little noise it does when you plug it in. I picked it up and right near where the charger plugs in, it was very hot. I use it when it'd plugged in from time to time and it is NEVER that hot. I then tried to plug it into the computer where it again didn't do anything and didn't show up as a device that was plugged in on my iTunes. Again, it got very hot very quickly. I am using the cord that came with it and an actual Apple brand wall charger. I don't know what else to do. Some people said to hold the two buttons down for a little bit, but nothing happened on mine. Please help!

Warm is normal, too hot to handle, literally, is not.
If you're concerned, make an appointment at your local apple store and have them check your charger out.

  • The backlight on my ipod touch 3rd generation will not come on, but everything works perfectly. I even used the advice given on the tech support page, and it still will not come on. HELP ME PLEASE.

The backlight on my ipod touch 3rd generation will not come on, but everything else is working fine I even took the tech support advice by plugging it in and resetting it, but that didn't fix the issue either. I need help.

    If not this:
iOS: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth settings grayed out or dim
One user reported that placing the iPod in the freezer fixed the problem.
    Also heating sometimes works. See:
Why can't I select my wifi settings?
A trick that works frequently with iPhones:
Settings > AirPlane Mode ON, Do Not Disturb ON
Power down and wait 5-10 minutes
    Power up
Settings > AirPlane Mode OFF, Do Not Disturb OFF
If not successful, an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is usually in order.

    Then:
Does the iOS device connect to other networks? See other networks? If yes that tends to indicate a problem with your network.
Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:

  • Ipod touch 3rd generation can´t install apps

I have a problem with apple.
I bought a Ipod touch of the 3rd generation and I can´t install any apps the problem is that my ipod said You need ios 6 to install this app.I bought them in 2010.
How can I fix this problem? I have ios 5.1.1.I would be okay that apple update my ipod to the version 8 of ios.
I think that is a case of programmed obsolescence.
I am very angry. I think that bought an ipod with only 5 years of use and then happens this. I find it amazing.
    Regards

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities
Unfortunately that is the case with any kind of technology. Components get older and new software is designed to take advantage of current day technologies. The iPod touch 3rd generation is 6 years old which is a very long time in the age of technology. This may seem like a cop out answer but this iPod touch just could not handle current day software. Lets put it in perspective. If Apple updated that iPod touch to iOS 8.x then it would not have the power to handle even the simplest of operations. The iPod touch 3rd generation still works with iOS 5.x and allows you to use it as you did 6 years ago. Applications also get updated as well to support the newer technologies and with that they drop support for older hardware. Apps that had versions on the App Store that at some point in time supported your iPod, it will give you the option to install the older version. I am not saying Apple does not have planned obsolescence, what I am saying is that your iPod still functions because it does not use new software.

  • Ipod Touch (3rd generation) connection to a TV

Can anyone tell me how to connect my Ipod Touch (3rd generation) model A1318 to a TV to display YouTube and Video?
The Apple Store have advised me that they don't have a cable that will do this but to use a third party one with third party software from Itunes.
    Thanks,
    Steve.

There is no special software.  You just need apps that support TV out.  Just not that TV out does not mirror the iPod's screen.
You do not need a dock, just the cable.  From the link I provided:
A dock can be a welcome addition if you're going to keep your cables connected to the TV. The Apple Universal Dock includes an Apple Remote so you can pause and adjust the volume from a distance

  • IPod touch 3rd generation 8G? or 32G? Need your guidance!!

I am planning to get an iPod touch 3rd generation. Surfing web is my main use with it, I don't care about music, videos, app, and games. I am a little confused that which one I should choose between 8G and 32G version. 8G is cheaper obviously, but the processor and memory both are lower than 32G or 64G. I wanna know how slow to open web pages it is if comparing 8G with 32G? Is it very noticeable? Has somebody ever tried to test it? Thank you!!

You can purchase the latest generation Touches in 8, 32, and 64gig configurations. The 8gig doesn't have the updated, accelerated insides you'll find in the 32 and 64gig versions; it's more like a 2g. The 3g has notably faster wifi and slightly better game performance, and is claimed to be 50% faster than before. The 2g Touch is still a good value, and can be purchased as a refurb from the Apple Store will full warranty; it comes in 8, 16, and 32gig configurations, and will seem close to the 3g in most ways that matter.
If you're interested in a solid performer with good storage, the 8 and 16gig 2g may be worth looking into, and there are lots of excellent refurb units available available.

  • IPod Touch 3rd Generation stuck in recovery mode

My daughter got an iPod Touch 3rd Generation for Christmas which was on version 3.1.1. iTunes told us an update to 3.1.2 was available and would we like to update it, we selected yes. The update downloaded and then the iPod wouldn't restore and is stuck in recovery mode with the iTunes symbol and the USB on the screen and giving us an error message 1604. We have tried different ways to get it to restore but it wants to update it to 3.1.2 which apparently has a problem with it. How can we get it to restore back to 3.1.1?

I had the same problem yesterday. I tried restoring countless times, reinstalling iTunes... teh whole nine yards. I eventually called Apple, they didn't know what was wrong with it either.
Unfortunately, its the Touch, not iTunes... you are going to have to return it to where you bought it, and exchange it for a new one. Call Apple, and they will give you a number to give to the store. Alternately, you can go to an Apple store, if you bought it at a retailer (Best Buy, Walmart, ect.) and see what they can do.
    Best of luck! ~*~
