Ipod touch 4 days old - not being recognised now on apple mac.  What is going on?

I am totally disappointed with this Ipod.  I had it all set up a few days ago, which we had to do at home ourselves due to requiring our current passwords etc.   Today it is not recognised on the Apple Mac and the Apple ID cannot be found - it took too long to find it. The Itunes server is not recognised and for some reason I cannot find new updates for either product.  They both appear to be up to date.  Waste of my time.  I have spent hours trying to find out what is wrong with it,   I bought this in Perth at the only Apple Store last Saturday.  I have purchased itunes music and this was successfully downloaded to mu ipod a few days ago.  Last night I downloaded my CD's to the itunes library and haven't been able to put these onto my Ipod.  What is going on?????  I though Apple was a fairly straight forward reliable brand of product.  Your support page is not helping me at present.

I have contacted Apple support on the above issues and will have to follow it up with them as it is more involved than what I have listed. Our Apple Mac laptop is not downloading the updates for software.  The iTunes site does not recognise the "server" (comes up with a message saying this) and apparently this is a known problem.  The Mac needs to have a more current iTunes update but as the computer won't install the updates (goes through all the motions from the software update on the apple icon at top right hand corner of page) , I can't use my iPod on the computer to get my CD songs that are downloaded onto the itunes library site (don't know how to get these either) and it doesn't appear to recognise my iPod touch.
I also couldn't log in to the Apple site this morning, but later on at about lunchtime I could!  Bizarre.  Of course I haven't had any problems logging into this site with my password and ID at all today.
So, lllaass, I am going to try Apple support again via the phone and see what happens....I have a job number to quote them when I call them back.  Thanks for your suggestions - I am definitely not an IT whiz, but I do know that my iPOD did work forthe first day or so.

I have tried on my family members laptop and its seems to be picking up. So the ipod or the usb wire is not the issue.
I have tried everything from reinstalling itunes and updating windows.
I have tried the diagnostics test and its still says the ipod cannot be found.

  • 6th gen ipod nano serial number not being recognised by support

I have just tried to register my 6th gen ipod nano on Apple's website and I get a message that says the number is not recognised, recheck and try again.  At first used number from nano box, then tried again after connecting nano to computer (same number appears of course) but still not being recognised.  The fact that the serial number is not being recognised is not helpful when you need help from support as they also require this information before they will contact you.  Why is my nano's serial number not being recognised?  More to the point, how do I get apple to recognise it?

    Are you sure aren't mistaking I's for 1's or O's of 0s?
If you head to Settings - General -> About, does it list the same serial # there?

  • IPOD TOUCH  4G IS NOT BEING RECOGNIZED BY ITUNES NOR WINDOWS 7

Hi... I have been using my new ipod Touch 32G  4G for almost two months now, and It has been working great... but for an unknown reason my itunes 10.4.10 (I use a PC with Windows 7 ultimate 32bits in it) stoped recognizing it, and so has my PC... when I plug the ipod to my computer, if I have itunes open, it freezes... if I unplug the Ipod, it start working ok ( I mean itunes)... and once I plug the ipod to the computer it recognizes it as a camera device.. and if I look for it it wont show in (My Computer)... As I said... this happened just a few days ago... it was working OK before... I have re installed several times the last itunes version and even though it works with out the devices conected... once I connect any apple device ( ipod Touch 2G, ipod Touch 4g and an ipad 2G) it wont recognize any of them... the ipods frezze itunes, the ipad doesn´t frezze it, but It doesnt show there either...  What could have happened ?  What should I do ?  I have checked the drivers, uninstalled and installed them again, I have unisntalled and installed itunes several times now, i have tried the devices in other computers also with Windows 7 and they are working OK, so its itunes so is not the cable nor the ipods or ipad...
I dont know what else I can do ...
Would someone please have any ideas on how to solve this ?

I had the exact same problem...and literally, even after calling Apple Help this morning and them emailing what was supposed to fix it, I was still stuck in the same boat. However, after much searching, I found a post on the internet, did what it said, and, as of this morning, my iPod, and my kid's iPods, are now recognized.
Since the most recent iTunes update none of our iPods are recognized by iTunes. Our PC is smart enough to recognize my iPod, but iTunes is not.
After MUCH aggravation....AFTER trying all the fixes outlined by Apple Support, AFTER contacting Apple Help and doing what they said, NOTHING WORKED.
I searched the internet again and found the simplest of instructions. They explain that with the new iTunes update some iPods are being recognized as digital cameras rather than iPods, which mine was doing. This is how I fixed it. Do not have iTunes open.
Attach your iPod to your computer.
    1. Open the Device Manager. (To do this right click on My Computer or Computer, click on Properties, and then click on Device Manager).
    2. Find your iPod. Normally it will show up on it's own, but since your computer is recognizing it as a digital camera it may be under something else; mine was under Portable Devices.
Even though it is saying drivers are up to date based on all Apple Fixes, you DO HAVE TO MANUALLY UPDATE DRIVERS...and this is what you have to do!
    3. Select the Apple iPod by double clicking on it when you find it.
    4. Select Driver on the tabs and click on Update Driver.
    5. Choose Browse My Computer for Driver Software. Once opened, you must locate this file: Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers. Select that folder and Click Next. Once the update is complete, unplug your iPod. Wait 30 seconds and plug it back in...your computer should now recognize the iPod.
To whoever found out about this fix and posted it online, THANK YOU!!! I have spent hours and hours following Apples advice to no avail...but this fix, posted online by someone else, DID work...so thank you for posting it...and I am just passing it on!
Let me know if it works for you...it takes all of 5 minutes and it worked for me this morning!

  • IPod Touch 2nd generation not being recognized / charging through iTunes

I am having issues with my 2nd gen iPod Touch being recognized in iTunes or Windows.  I have tried multiple computers with no luck (Windows XP and 7).
Here is what is going on.
iPod is not recognized through computer or iTunes
iPod doesn't charge through computer or a wall charger, however, will charge through a seperate speaker dock. (this seems odd that it will charge on a dock, but not through the wall charger or computer).
Each time the iPod is plugged into the computer with Windows XP, I get a message that the USB device is not recognized.  I get no message when plugged into Windows 7.
Here are the steps I tried to fix the issue.
used multiple cables, 3 in all.  My iPhone 3gs works fine and is recognzied with all cables / computers.
reset the device numerous times and re-started computers.
Uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled with no luck.
I'm reaching out into the community to see if anyone has had similiar issues and looking for advice to solving this problem.
Thanks for your help and responses.

Slightly different contact configuratio in the dock might allow charging nly on the dock.
If you can't straight out the contacts:
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours. However, it may not be worth it for the old 2G iPod.

  • After trying to update my i-Pod Touch it is not being recognised by iTunes and is stuck on the "Connect to iTunes screen". What do I do?

So after updating iTunes and attempting to update my iPod Touch, a message came up telling me the update for my iPod had failed. I checked my iPod to see that it was now showing the "Connect to iTunes screen", and was no longer showing up on iTunes.
    I then:
    Restarted my computer
    Uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes
Attempted to put my iPod into recovery mode.
None of these made any difference. Any help on what to do?

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

  • Ipod touch headphone mic not being detected.

I have an ipod touch 3G 32GB and I use the headphones that came with the product (they have a built in remote and microphone). I just bought the ipod touch, and as soon as i try to record some voice momos, my ipod touch tells me there is no microphone inserted, although the headphones (with the microphone and remote built in) have been inserted. Same happens when I try to call people on Skype. Somebody please help me.

i have the same problem with two of my ipod touches 2G and nano 4th generation, with my newly purchased headphone mic remote set. called the apple expert, he suggested me to reset them first, and if still not working then restore them to their original settings with itunes. and if still not working, then need to bring everything to any apple store to see an apple genius.
i reset them all. everything works fine only when plugging in the headphone set for the first time, then none of them detect the headphone set again.
restore them. everything work probably until i transferred music and videos back to all the ipods. now they sometime detect the headphone set and sometime they don't.
anyways, seems like there're some kind of software conflicts. so, i will bring all my ipods and the brand new headphone mic set to talk to an apple genius.
    hope this help.

  • My ipod 5th gen is not being recognised my windows or itunes

My ipod was fine working on windows vista, but i recently bought a brand new computer, operating system windows 7 premium 64bit. Tried most things, resetting ipod or using disk mode has no effect either.
Plugging my ipod in never got detected, not even as a storage device. So after installing the latest itunes software (itunes for windows 64bit) it still would not be detected by both windows in my computer and itunes.
in device manager though under disk drives it shows "apple ipod usb device".
under storage volumes it shows "unknown device"
and under USB controllers it shows "Apple mobile device USB driver"
I searched the internet before coming here, all i could find was uninstall every single bit of apple software, unplug the ipod then reinstall itunes etc, i tried all this but had bo success.
Obviously the ipod is fine as it works in my old pc and charges in this new one.
Thanks to all who can offer advice.

  • My ipod 5th gen is not being recognised by any PC

I have tried connecting to 3 different PCs with several different original cables. I have tried disk mode, reinstalling itunes, resetting ipod, restarting the apple services - every suggestion I have been able to find. When connected it charges but no message appears on the ipod screen. Haven't been able to restore the ipod as it is never recognised. It plays music normally and was connecting normally up until last week. It hasn't ben exposed to water or dropped etc (to my knowledge).
    Any suggestions?

  • Ipod touch charging but not being seen in itunes

ATM, I've restarted my ipod touch up to 5 times and reinstalled itunes at least 2 times completely. Still, I get the error:
"Itunes could not connect to the Ipod because an invalid response was received from the device."
My mac is updated (unless you count the spending safari update!) I also tried it with my co-workers iphone and I get a similar response. Itunes lags for a moment, and then the error pops up. Both devices acknowledge that they are connected to USB and start charging.
I plugged my ipod touch into a family member's mac and itunes recognizes it there. Please help me out?

Did you also reinstall Apple Mobile Device Service? See this article how to do: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747
