IPod Touch 4 not connecting to iTunes on Windows machine

I have an iPod touch 4 using OS version 5. Until a few days ago when I attached it to my Windows XP Pro machine it would show up in iTunes. Now it does not. Any ideas?

Well I did as instructed and iTunes is PRESENTLY seeing my iPod. A bit concerned though. It worked after restarting the Apple Mobile device service.  I am concerened because 1) I had already rebooted the system which I would think would resolve the issue the same way because the service is set to start automatically. 2) the service APPEARED to be running and all I did was stop it and restart.
These being true I wonder if this is a one time fix or if I will have to do this after every reboot or even everytime I attach my iPod.
But it did work so thanks.

It is normal for the computer to recognize the iPod as a camera since thatis how one gets photos and videos off the iPod.

My sons iPod touch is not recognized by iTunes, or windows.  I have tried a variety of options, even resetting, but still no luck.

What does the iPod's screen say or do, when you connect it to USB port on the computer?
The article referenced is for "regular" iPods.  An iPod touch is an iOS computer, so this article would be more appropriate for troubleshooting.

Be sure to rule out a faulty USB cable as the cause.  Try another cable, or try the cable you have with another device that has a dock connector.
Also, you should do this test to rule out a problem with the USB port (such as lack of power or USB device conflict).  Shut down (power off) the computer and disconnect all USB devices, including any hub, except for standard keyboard and mouse (if normally used).  If the computer is a laptop, connect its power adapter (so that it's not running on battery power).
Then, start up the computer, run iTunes, and connect iPod to a direct USB port on the computer.  If it still does not connect, connect something else to the same USB port to confirm it is working.  Preferably, use something similar, such as a USB flash drive or external drive.

    Does it charge?
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Try another cable
    - Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Look for abnormalities like bent or corroded contacts, cracked or broken plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genus Bar of an Apple store.

No, you have to update to iOS 5 via iTunes/USB. One you get iOS you can further update via wifi.

  • My ipod touch is not connecting to Itunes

I just recieved my itouch and it work perfectly fine until when i took a shower, and since my bathroom was condensed, i guess the water got into the itouch? (IT WAS NO WHERE NEAR THE SINK OR SHOWERING WITH ME) and the it would not TURN on at ALL the screen is totally black, no apple logo when i tried to press both the sleep/wake button and the home button.and it won't even connect to Itunes (and i've also pressed both the sleep/awake button and home button) and my dad didnt buy warranty for it. Is there any other way to fix this Itouch?

Hot or cold water condensation are issues for some Touches; it seems that the rapid cooling or heating can affect some machines, especially in extreme weather. Unfortunately, Apple repairs can rival the cost of a new unit in some cases.
Pick the brains of these guys http://www.ipodjuice.com/apple-ipod-repair.htm for independent info. At the very least, you can scope out your repair options, and they would be able to crack open the unit safely. (The metal cover requires more care than you might think.)
There's an inexperienced user can safely do by himself, though some might be tempted to open it up and let the dry air in. Leave it for the pro's.

  • IPod Touch will not connect to iTunes, please help..

I purchased an iPod Touch yesterday. I synced it up to iTunes, everything fine. After disconnecting and then reconnecting later I found that the computer didn't recongize it and it did nothing but charge the iPod. I've tried many times, all to either have it do nothing, crash iTunes, or give me the message "iTunes could not connect to the iPhone because of an unknown error (0xE8000001)". I've tried reinstalling iTunes, the whole Apple Device Service, the USB problems.. everything. I have USB 2.0, Version 1.1.2 of the iPod, and iTunes version 7.5. Please, please try and answer my problem.
I've also restored using a friends computer, it works fine the first sync after I restore on his comp, but after that it does what I described above.
    Please help

I was having the same problem but what I made was:
Conect iPod Touch into a USB port but from the back of the PC
Then *shut dawn* the iPod no lock *shut dawn*
then reinstall iTunes (it has to be iTunes 7.5 o later)
    open iTunes
    turn on iPod Touch
    and it most work
o restart your PC and try again

  • Ipod Touch does not connect to Itunes

I´ve just bought an Ipod Touch, I´ve updated Itunes and OS, but when I connect the Ipod through the USB-port (tried both) it does not pop up in Itunes as with my previous Ipods

What's the specific model (e.g. size/processor speed) of your PB G4? I ask, because my wife's 12" PB G4 (867 MHz), which is capable of running Leopard (barely), has only USB 1.1 ports, not USB 2.0. The requirements for the IPT include USB 2.0 (1.1 is unsupported, apparently works, but not consistently, and often not for a full sync, just for small updates).
    (Purchase location is irrelevant.)

  • IPod Touch bricked & not connecting to iTunes?

I just bought an older iPod Touch 2G from someone yesterday, and this is my first experience with an iPod. It seemed to be working fine, except that I couldn't get it to connect to iTunes or show up on my computer. I fresh installed iTunes, uninstall/ reinstalled, but still couldn't get it to show up (although it would charge). While messing with the iPod, I noticed that it still had a lot of stuff from the previous person, like their facebook login, so I did a full *erase all content and settings* on it. I left it alone, and when I came back I noticed it had the USB Connect to iTunes logo on it. Now, its frozen here. It still won't connect to iTunes, and I can't get past this screen. All I can do is turn it off / on. Any help or advice on restoring it would be appreciated!
My computer OS is Windows 7.
I believe the iPod Touch was 3.something

Figured out the problem - the USB cable I was using would charge but not connect for some reason. Borrowed an official one from a friend and it connected without a problem. The one I got was from Belkin - I'm surprised it didn't work. Maybe it was just damaged, who knows. Anyway, sorry for the trouble and feel free to delete this topic. Although, the Apple help page for troubleshooting connectivity issues should mention using a different USB cable.

  • My ipod touch will not connect to itunes.

I have tried every possible solution I can find on the web, I have followed the tutorials about 5 times on the support site, and this is what  happens. (This started after a recent update).
If I click on the App store icon I get a message that says "cannot connect to itunes store" and the only option is to press the "OK" button.
When I click on the ITunes icon it brings me to a web page that has at the top Apple-I Tunes-Affiliates. I believe I got to that screen by trying to uninstall and reinstall ITunes on it. I can do searches from there just like I was on this same web site on my ITouch, but no ITunes.
I can get on the internet for everything else with no problem with it.
I have downloaded the latest version of everything. Today I did the most up to date download and the device updated and restarted...the whole shebang, so I was really excited and thought I had it taken care of but it is still doing the same thing.
So in summary. When I try to access ITunes from my IPOD Touch it just brings me to the Apple Web site, and I can't find out to get to ITunes from there.
When App store icon is pressed it says cannot connect to itunes store.
This is driving me  craze. This thing is only a few  months old, but with no warranty as it is a replacement for another one that bit the dust.
    My version is 4.3.5, (8L1) model MC00*LL
The device syncs with my computer without any problems.

    Restore the device as new.
