IPod Touch 4 Restore Ruined iPod?

Hello -
I've had my iPod Touch 4 for under three years, and it's worked well enough, but earlier this week, I tried to restore it with the intentions of selling it, since it hasn't been used much lately.  Well, that idea went down the drain within a day.
When I connected it to my laptop, it prompted me to update iTunes to the latest version on my laptop - okay; done.  I reconnected my iPod to my computer again, and asked it to begin the restore.  Since my iOS is version 5.1 or around there, it prompted me to update it to iOS 6.1.2.  Of course, since it didn't give me an option to restore without updating it, I told it to go ahead.  Four hours later, the update was completed and my iPod stopped working.
I tried to reconnect the iPod to my computer and tell it to continue the restore, but it would not.  It just tells me that the iPod is stuck in recovery mode, and needs to restore.  I tell it to restore, and iTunes quickly comes up with another message, saying that an error occurred, including the code for the error.
I have done everything that the iTunes support page suggests I do when an error code comes up. I have let the battery drain on my iPod at least three times, logged out of every program and made sure that no other USB cables were plugged into my laptop, as well as no SD cards.  I've done hours of research trying to figure out how to fix it all this week, but I'm stuck in a rut.
The device is not jailbroken, and worked fairly well (and was always handled carefully), and it's never given me issues like this before.  I've also tried to put it into DFU mode countless times, but it just won't work.  Also, I am tech-savvy and pretty well know what I am doing, so it isn't like I clicked the wrong thing or did something stupid to get into this mess.
Has anyone else encountered this problem?  And does anyone know how or if I can fix it?  Please advise, thank you very much for your time.

If there’s an issue with the USB port, cable, dock, or hub, or if the device becomes disconnected during restore, try troubleshooting the USB connection, then troubleshooting your security software.
To narrow down the issue, you can also change up your hardware:
Use another USB cable.
Plug your cable into a different USB port on your computer.
Try a different dock connector (or no dock).
Add (or remove) a USB hub between your device and computer.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, with no routers, hubs, or switches.
If you checked your connections and are still seeing the error message, check for hardware issues.

there's no music in my device (ipod touch) after restoring content because of a software issue. music is available in my laptop's cloud though. how do i restore music in my device?

hi! an error message showed on my device last week and Apple support  helped me restore the software on my device. Syncing went well and all my apps were available after. However, when I looked at my music in my device, it did not contain anything. The songs were in Itunes on my laptop and when I tried to play them they did not play. But, it says music is available for my account in the cloud. When I switched to the cloud, I was able to play my music already. But everytime I synced, the music from the cloud are not transferred to my device. Most of the music that I have are from other sources. How do I download those again to my device? I tried what I did before which was to copy the song from my laptop then edit paste it to iTunes but this did not work like before when automatically it becomes available on my device.
    pls help. thanks!

Yes. It will not effect your other iPod.

  • Will Apple cover me if updating to iOS5 on ipod Touch 3rd gen ruins/bricks it?

I have heard stories of some people's apple products not working/bricked after attempting to upgrade to iOS5.
I have a 1.5 year old ipod Touch 3rd gen. No warranty on it from Apple (tho I do have one from Square Trade for ADH, but I called them and they said if it is a software issue, they don't cover it.)
I am very concerned about d/ling the ios5 upgrade and it ruining my ipod touch.  In effect, I will take a device that could fetch almost $200 on ebay (which I could then use to upgrade to a Touch 5gen), and turn it into a worthless piece of junk if I upgrade and it ruins it.
Also, I know that they have released 5.0.1 (beta I believe?) for update.   I still read stories on here from people waiting until now (Nov, a month after it was first released when so many people tried to d/l it and had terrible problems), but now are still getting network timed out error msgs, etc.
So is there ANY protection from Apple if their update should screw my ipod touch??
Should I just wait longer for a final, stable version  of ios 5? (like v5.1)  Or just totally skip the iOS 5 upgrade and stay safe with iOS 4?  I don't know that it is really worth the $200 loss risk to upgrade to iOS5.  (i.e. 3rd gen doesn't have the ability to find and lock/wipe my lost touch, etc.)
I do know that I should:
    1) install itunes 10.5 anew on my laptop  (itunes and syncing WAS done on my tower, until I just got it back from being serviced for some Major problems/virues/malware/etc.  I'm not comfortable using it, as the problems on it included not being able to start Local Services, connect to the internet, no audio services, etc.  The guy says it is booting up and services are working now, but you never know....But i digress...)
    2) be on AC and not battery on my laptop
    3) be hardwired (ethernet) to the internet and not use my wireless connection
    4) turn off Windows 7 Firewall, and disable my PC Tools Spyware Docter with Antivirus.
So, what do you all think? should I wait until later to upgrade to say os 5.1?  Should I even RISK upgrading to iOS5 on a touch 3gen and lose almost $200 cash?  And will Apple give me ANY protection should it ruin my touch?  (I seriously doubt it.)
    Thanks for input.

Before proceeding with the update, it wouldn't hurt to manually back up the iPod in iTunes by right->clicking on it from under the Devices section and choosing Backup.    See this article for more information on what is stored in the backup.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4946
Also make sure that any content you may have synced to the device from iTunes, such as Music, movies, TV Shows, podcasts, etc. are all stored on your computer and in iTunes before updating the iPod's version of iOS.
Otherwise, I would go ahead with the upgrade.  I didn't have any issues with it on my iPhone.

  • IPod Touch cannot restore

Please help. This week I decided to restore my iPod Touch (not sure of the generation--sorry) because I had inherited the device from my brother, and he had set a restrictions passcode on it a while back, but could not remember it. Anyways, when I connected the touch to my Windows Vista computer, I clicked "restore" in iTunes and it put my touch through an update. Yet after the update was finished the device could no longer be recognized by iTunes, and the computer came up with a window saying it had to install a driver for the new software. I clicked okay and it went on to tell me to insert a disk; and since I do not have a disk I clicked browse the computer manually. However, whenever I directed it to places such as C:\Windows or C:\Windows\System32 the computer could still not locate a driver... and iTunes could not recognize the device. I spent hours searching the web and tried all the suggested solutions to no avail. I updated iTunes, reinstalled it, checked for Windows updates, updated the "Apple Mobile Device USB" under device manager, I've restarted my computer, tried holding down the lock button + home and nothing has worked. But finally, tonight I updated a driver and iTunes finally recognized my iPod touch as being in recovery mode. It alerted me that I had to restore it, so I clicked "restore and update". It went through a long process of "Extracting"... however when it finished an error came up saying "The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. The device cannot be found." I was ready to tear my hair out and finding I was met with another obstacle. I searched and searched for a solution to this error and the only thing I came up with was to restart my computer and open up iTunes again. And after many trials the error did not appear. There was a loading bar that read "Waiting for iPod..." but AGAIN the pesky window came up and said my computer had found new software... blah blah blah needed to install a driver. But I cannot get Vista to find a driver anywhere and my touch has now been stuck in recovery mode for about three days now. I took it into the store today but I was told I needed an appointment (which won't work because I'm leaving on a trip tomorrow). I'd really like to get my touch working again before I go on vacation... and I plan on calling tomorrow morning but if anyone has ever encountered this situation and knows a solution it would be greatly appreciated.

  • Ipod Touch 4G Restore error 1601 or 1611

the itouch is pretty much new, i clicked home and lock to force a restore and so far have been unable to do, pretty much always getting a 1611, this happens on both win7x64 and osx 10.5
i tried uninstall all apple soft from the win7, even itunes on my music and "apple computer" from app data (local, roaming) then restarting and finally doing the installation again
i tried changing usb ports, rebooting and putting it into dfu mode right away
but anytime that the restore operation puts the ipod on the screen where is supposed to install the software (the one with the progress bar) i can see in the system devices that the driver has a warning
i tried updating too as suggested in http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1538
    but still no luck,
    any suggestion?

I am having the same Problem with my iPod touch 2g. It won't turn on at all even when I plug it into tO a wall charger. When I plug it into the computer iTunes does not recognize it. I then put it into DFU mode and and it says the iPod is in recover mode and needs to be restored. I have tried the option+click tp restore with the updated firmware and I get the same error code (1601). I have never jailbroken my iPod. I have tried everything Apple says to do; the 5 r's, removing apple programs and reinstalling themi tried plugging it into multiple USB ports and different computers Mac and PC if that matters. I can't find a solution anywhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

  • Problem with iPod Touch Rebooting - Restore No Worky

Out of nowhere my ipod touch started turning off on it's own. To turn it back on I can hit the power button on top, but after the white apple is displayed it shuts off agian. Never makes it to the home scrren. The only way to keep it on is to plug it into my car charger. As soon as I take it off the charger and play a song it shuts off again.
I already tried a restore and that didn't do anything. I am not use the new 2.2 software version.
It is not under warranty. Is there any solution for this? If I pay the fee for the new software (which is ridiculous), will that by any chance fix this?
    Thanks for any insight.
    Nick

I figured out that the issue is when I plug my ipod touch into the AUX port on any radio it will play for a few seconds and then crash. I've tried two different vehicles and it does the same thing on both.
Why would the ipod crash using the AUX port on a radio? Headphones work fine and my FM transmitter which use the large bottom slot on the ipod works fine as well.
    Any clue?
