IPod touch 4g 6.1.6 stuck in reboot loop after trying to restore

My ipod touch 4g has a really bad battery and only works if you have it plugged in and charging, but I've never had this problem before. I unplugged it from where it was charging and it died, of course. But when I plugged it into my computer to sync it, it started an endless reboot loop with the apple logo. I tried putting it into dfu mode and restoring it, I've tried doing it on three other macs, and the I've let the battery drain since it dies when I unplug it. Still dont know what the problem is. I cant take it to apple cause I dont have apple care on it and they cant help because the battery doesnt work anyway. Help is much appriciated.

See if y misse anything here:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order. You do not need AppleCare and it is free.

  • Ipod Touch 2G 2.2.1 stuck in recovery mode - no access to restore file

Hello, I am currectly travelling and I won't have my computer for another 7 months.
I have an ipod Touch 2G with OS 2.2.1. I was using the Facebook app when it froze and stayed like that for a while. I decided to reset the ipod by pressing the PWR button and the home button. Once I did that I turn the ipod back on and the Apple logo came on but it was stuck. So I restarted it again. I decided to go to a cyber cafe to plug it in to see if it would fix the problem. When I plugged it in, I go the "plug it in into iTunes" or Recovery mode logo. Now iTunes asks me to restore my ipod.
Is there a way to cancel the Recovery mode? I really don't want to loose everything for the next 7 months of my trip.
I have tried to reset the ipod many times but I got the same results.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I had this same problem - tried the restore process about a dozen times with no positive results. Finally took the IPT to local Apple store where genius connected it to their system and it restored perfectly (as if I didn't know THAT was going to happen). What he told me next bothered me - that I would probably have to reload the IPT from scratch - but when I got home and connected the iPod to my iMac via USB, iTunes downloaded the most recent backup (which it had taken just before the restore had started) and returned everything to where it had been with one notable exception. I had just downloaded one song from the iTunes Music Store to the IPT before this whole episode got started, and it hadn't yet synched up to the iTunes music library on the iMac. The song was a loss - small price to pay for not having to try to replace a lot of other stuff that was on the IPT before. Hope you have an Apple store nearby. Sorry this isn't better news, but I went through all the other IPT troubleshooting stuff as well and nothing cleared the problem, so I didn't feel I had any other out except taking it in for "repair."

  • IPod Touch 3rd gen 32 GB stuck in recovery mode. iTunes won't restore. When I plug it into iTunes, it calls it an iPhone.

My husband plugged his iPod Touch into the USB port on the computer and, once it charged some, iTunes didn't recognize it as his iPod (calling it an "iPhone" rather than "Ed's iPod"). It said that iTunes had detected an iPhone in recovery mode and that he had to restore it. When he clicked on 'restore' it said, "Software for this phone is not currently available. Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes and try again." After a few days (after the battery was fully drained again), I plugged it into a wall charger and it began to charge. I was able to fully see everything still on the iPod and even to access his apps. I let it fully charge, but when I unplugged it, it went black again and now it will not do anything. Back to a black screen and if we plug it into the computer, the same cycle starts again with it being recognized as an iPhone needing to be restored, etc.
UPDATE: So, I let the iPod fully drain again and then plugged it into the computer and iTunes. It saw it as an iPod again and said it was in recovery mode and I was able to tell it to restore it. It went through the entire process, and as the iPod was restarting, it again called it an iPhone in recovery mode. Now I can no longer see the apps and the homepage on the computer but rather it shows the Apple symbols to plug it into iTunes to set it up - but again, says it is in recovery mode but will not restore it.
    Someone please help!

I searched the iPod Touch forum for "iphone in recovery mode" and it appears there are two possible solutions:
    - Place the iPod in DFU mode and then restore it>

  • IPod Touch 4th gen stuck in reboot loop after attempting to update to iOS 6.1.5

    Hi.
I have my iPod Touch 4th Gen (iOS 6.1.3)....I plugged it into my computer, it said there was a software update available. I click ok, it goes through all of it's stuff, gets up to Verifying update with Apple, and then I get an error message.
"The iPod 'iPod Touch 4' could not be restored. It is not eligible for the requested build."
I know this has something to do with Apple not signing the package, but I got iOS 7.0.4 on my iPhone today and it worked fine.
Thanks for all of your guys' help,

I tried to restore my ipod through the ipod not itunes and it didn't finish, now the ipod is frozen on the apple icon and the little thing that goes around(?),my PC and itunes doesn't recognise the ipod and it switches off and on again after a few hours. I have tried press and holding the sleep and home buttons but that didn't work.
I also have an ipod nano and when I plug that in to the pc it recognises it,and opens itunes.  Any help would be great, thanks.

  • Iphone 4 stuck in boot loop after failed ios5 restore/update

i'm sure this question has already been answered and i just can't find it.  After attempting to update/ restore my iphone 4 gsm to ios 5 it recieved an odd error code something with =yes at the end. Now my phone just keep rebooting: apple screen, spining disk, loading bar like during a restore for 1 second then it repeats this process. Itunes will not reconized the device unless i force it into dfu or recovery mode. I have tried everything to get it to restore dfu, recovery, the previous firmware 4.3.5 and everything gives the error "this device isn't eligible for this build." any tips possible sulotion would be great as of right now i have a bricked iphone 4

I had a similar problem on mine with the same symptoms so I called apple since my PC couldn't even see my iPhone 4 when it was plugged in. The rep told me to hold the home button and on/off switch like when doing a hard resatart and hold those two buttons together for 10 seconds and once 10 seconds pass then release the on/off switch but continue holding the home button until the phone shows up again under "devices" in iTunes.

I have no clue what you mean by "all the different methods."  Here are my suggestions.
First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

My daughters ipod touch 5th generation screen is stuck.  It reads IPOD Disabled connect to itunes.  HELP!

Have you considered connecting it to her computer running iTunes? That would seem to be the logical first thing to try...
It's in recovery mode because someone incorrectly attempted to enter the passcode too many times. It must be restored using iTunes.

  • Ipod touch does not do anything stuck on the apple logo screen.

ipod touch does not do anything stuck on the apple logo screen.

You may need to hold the sleep/wake button and the home button until the apple logo appears. Or anther thing you can try is draining the battery until the battery is dead. That's what i tried and worked. You may need to do those things more than 2 times. OH anther thing is you can try connecting you ipod to your computer and see if it appears on itunes. If those don't work you can send it to apple. So that's what helped me I hope I answered your question.

    - See:

    - Try another cable
    - Try another charging source
    - Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Look for abnormalities like bent or corroded contacts, cracked or broken plastic.
