IPod Touch 4g assigns self passcode and restores itself since ios 5. my iPod is USELESS to me now.

I HATE IOS 5!!! Since I have updated, my iPod has re-set itself 12 times now without any reason (it was literally across the room oftentimes) If i bother to download the apps I purchased (forget about the back up I thought I'd made in iCloud...doesn't exit anymore) and set it up...and it put a passcode on itself. I am so frustrated I could cry. I am sending it back and I am hoping there are others with the same problems so I can ave examples shoud, Apple decide NOT to send me a replacement...if anyone has PLEASE reply.
Ive only had my iPod for 6 mos :C

another email:
"Cassandra's Ipod that WON'T WORK right was locked at 7:58 AM on December 29, 2011 using your current passcode.
Use Find My iPhone on an iOS device or go to www.icloud.com/find on a Mac or PC to take additional actions."
How can it be locked an hour after it was locked if i never gave it a passcode to lock with, much less lose it...whatever these emails mean. If you click on that link for icloud you'll see what I see.
"can't find that page go back and double check"
DOUBLE CHECK WHAT?! That my ipod is still USELESS to me? Check & CHECK.
please understand, I am putting all this here because Apple has sent me a box to ship my ipod back, and get a replacement. I want to be able to reference the difficulties I've had, since I was pretty much forced into updating to IOS 5. I rue that day. My beautiful, nearly new iPod is junk now
:'C Thanks Apple for being more concerned about $$ than the product you push out way too fast.

My ipod does not respond to touch commands, I have restarted and restored and it is still the same

Try restoring to factory defaults/new iPod if you have not yet done that.  If restoring to factory defaults/new iPod does not solve the problem you likely have a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Can I use iCloud on my computer? I want to back up my iMac and restore it since it is running so slow.

can I use iCloud on my computer? I want to back up my iMac and restore it since it is running so slow.

You need to be running Lion (10.7.x) to have iCloud run. Here are the system requirements for Lion:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
2GB of memory (4GB strongly recommended)
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
If your current iMac has 4GB of RAM then you can upgrade to Lion via the Mac App store and then use iCloud. However iCloud is not a backup system so please read up on what iCloud is designed for. To backup your system really all you need is an external HD and you can use Time Machine which is built into your system. Here is the Time Machine Tutorial to learn how to start.

  • My ipod touch is only partially functional, requiring multiple taps to do anything, with apps crashing.  I performed all Apple troubleshooting steps, including reset and restore, but no change in symptoms.  What should I do now?

My iPod Touch (4G, 8Gb) is only partially functioning, requiring multiple taps on icons to do anything, and apps are crashing often.  There is a thin white border that appears around icons when tapped once, then I must tap twice to activate. (that's 3 taps for what used to take 1)  I successfully completed all the Apple troubleshooting page steps, including reset and restore, but there was no change to its condition.  What can I do now?

Now that I think aboput it further, You may have an Accessibilty feature turned on.
    - Try triple clicking the Home button to see if that will allow access to the iPod so you can go to Settings>General>Restrictions to turn off all the Accessibilty features.
    - If not then connect the iPod to your computer and turn off the features. See:

  • Passcode and Restore

I forgot my iPod passcode. I cannot restore it because the Find My iPod is activated. My iPod doesn't want to connect to our WiFi automatically.
I don't know what else to do.
Is there any alternative method for this?
    Thank you.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.

  • HT1339 Restoring iPod nano to factory settings failed. The device switched to black screen immediately and is dead since then. Any idea what I can do now?

This week, my iPod nano suddenly seemed to have lost all the music that was on it.
when connecting to iTunes, it showed that the music was still there.
I tries to create a new playlist with 1 song in it and according to iTunes, that was successfull.
the iPod however still said 0 numbers are available in the music list.
finally, i executed the restore factory settings and that process failed.
the device immediately switched to blank screen and is dead since then.
when I connect the iPod to the computer, the computer detects that a device is connected and even recognizes it as an iPod.
however, the device is not visisble in the windows explorer.
iTunes automatically starts but shows the error message: the connected iPod cannot be identified ... unrecognized error (2005).
Does someone have an idea what I can do to make the iPod work again?
    thanks!

I tried by connecting to another available PC.
I newly installed iTunes on a PC that did not have the installation.
Connecting the iPod to this PC gave following error: "The iPod software update server could not be contacted. The server does not support this version of iTunes."
I followed the instructions in the "more information" section: iTunes version is the latest available; operating system version is up-to-date, no security obstructions and I rebooted my pc as suggested.
Next attempt to connect the iPod gave another error: "An iPod has been detected, but could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPod, then try again. An unknown error occurred (2005)".
This is exactly the same error as on the first PC.
the iPod is still out of use

  • IPod touch 5th generation battery drained and restored after app is closed

I got my iPod Touch 5th generation about a year ago. I noticed it has since had an issue on the battery life that I thought was common so I did not do anything about it.
The issue my iPod has is that whenever I use an app that requires immense energy to function, the battery drains real quick. But after I closed the app, the battery life fills up again like it has only used a little.  Video recording especially drains the battery the most where after 10 minutes of recording, it pops up saying 20% battery left from fully charged and at one point it even shuts down itself. But when it was turned on, the battery life is still around 75%. Before it runs on iOS 8, the issue is more apparent although it still exist now with the latest update.
I did not know until just recently that I found out it is a big issue where I could not have a video recording that can last longer than 10 minutes or so. Is there anything I could do to solve this? Are there anyone else out there that has this sort of issue?

    Hey Leowjowee-
I'm really sorry if I'm about to state the obvious, but have you tried fully resetting the iPod touch and setting it up like it's brand new?
It's a crappy answer, but sometimes these are device specific issues, and other times, it can happen just because the kinks haven't been worked out of a new upgrade. I work in consumer IT, and the first thing I would suggest to a client with this issue (especially after an upgrade from one version of the operating system to another), would be to restore (reset the iPod to factory specs) the iPod touch, set it up like the day I bought it, only with the upgraded operating system, and see if there's still an issue. Sometimes, doing an upgrade like you probably did to get from iOS 7 to iOS 8, where it keeps all your previous settings from the last operating system, can cause bugs in the new code.
    Here's instructions for a reset: http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201252
Keep in mind that this will completely erase any content you have on the iPod touch, so be careful to make sure you have a backup of the device before you do anything. You can back up your device to iCloud or your computer with these instructions:  http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203977
iOS 8 is brand new, and I'm sure Apple is working out the bugs - but these things happen...

  • IPod Touch hangs with blue screen and restore mode also fails

My daughter's iTouch 3G crashed last night while she was playing a game came up with a blue/green screen and couldn't turn off. Tried reboot which brought it back to Apple Logo where it stayed for about 10mins. Then tried restore. Managed to get as far as connecting it to iMac and going through restore process to "restoring iPod software" until that hangs too - with "iPod couldn't be restored Unknown Error 1603". Tried again with Error 9.
Have followed troubleshooter - have latest itunes, USB settings, firewall etc. Works fine with my iPhone.
Any ideas or is the iTouch screwed?

Common, no one has any ideas?  Well, don't know if this will help, but here's some new data to process.  I noticed that when I was trying to load the firmware with Redsnow w/o installing any options to include Cydia I got errors displayed on the Ipod such as WMR NAND format invalid; NANDLegacyFTL failed.  Someone has got to know something.  I would appreciate any ideas or thoughts from anyone with any idea.  Thanks

  • HT201304 What do I do if I forget my restrictions passcode and restoring dosn't work?

I had set a restrictions passcode accidentaly on the ratings of apps... It is quite annoying and I have already tried restoring my Ipod touch. Any suggestions?

You have to restore to factory defaults/new iPod.  You found if a backup was made with the Restrictions passcode present on the iPod the Restrictions passcode also gets restored when you restore from backup.

  • Ipod froze and restored itself now pc wont recognize it

I have a 30GB Ipod Video and a Windows XP operating system-equipped with Itunes 7.1
My Ipod was working fine while I uploaded songs to it, but then i ejected it from itunes and it was frozen so I consulted the Apple site and reset it to their instructions. It ended up deleting all my songs-which ****** me off a bit. Then I plugged it back into the computer to upload all my songs again, and it says it can't read my ipod and to click PREFERENCES-SUMMARY-RESTORE.
After checking MANY sites i figured out what I am supposed to do because i couldnt find the summary tab anywhere, and it turns out I am being told that the summary tab is in the actual ipod's settings. How am i suppose to do that if the computer's not even reading the ipod???
Does anyone know if I can send it to be fixed or replaced or whatever? I can't find any tech support emails and since I live in Trinidad-calling is last on my list. I've had my ipod for about just a year now and i need to fix it!! plzzz help someone!

  • HT201269 What if my iPod Touch is an earlier version and does not have iOS ?

I want to transfer my music from an older iPod touch to my new iPodTouch iOS 4 but the old model does not have iOs. Am I still abel to perform the action ?

iOS: Transferring information from your current iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to a new device
If you have any non-iTunes purchased music on the old iPod that is not in your iTunes library then you need a thrid-party program like one of those discussed here:
iOS: Transferring information from your current iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to a new device
    For iTunes purchases:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer

  • HT4623 I have a Ipod Touch 4th Gen, 8 GB and it only has iOS 4.3.1 and I can not get it download any apps from the app store. It says that our iOS system does no support it. Please tell me what to do, it's been like this for a month now and I can't figure

Just let me know if you know how to fix this!!! I am in desperate help right now. It's been a month and still can't use it plus we are going out of town and was wanting to take it with us to use.

If your iDevice is using a version of iOS lower than 5, you will need to use iTunes on your syncing computer to perform the upgrade. Use the Apple link below as a guide for the upgrade.

  • After unlocking my iphone 4s and restored it i put a virgin mobile sim card in it now i can only recieve calls. no messaging at all!!! i have updated and restored it twice and still nothing. the phone worked perfectly fine before updating to the new ios6.

i bought this i phone from my cousin and it was with telus. they unlocked it. i came home and did a restore on the phone. i put a virgin mobile sim card in it and now can only recieve phone calls and call out. no messaging or data or anything else. I have done two restores since and removed my sim card. reset network settings and am running out of patience. the phone worked absolutly fine before upgarding to the new 6ios. please help me.

To be honest not being able to send or recieve messages and data is a carrier issue, not a phone issue since u said that your calls are working, if i were you my first course of action would be to get a new sim card from virgin mobile, or to restore the device as new one more time, if you restore the device as new AND get a new sim card from your carrier and those features still dont work, i would take the device to an apple store

The system rebooted when I was doing a backup to NAS. After it came back up it said I had 'canceled' the backup but now it won't respond to Back up Now or Change settings. It does respond to other options.

  • Iphone 6 video keeps refocusing and ruining video since ios 8.3 update

When taking video with my iPhone 6 it constantly refocuses on the subject making it blurry, then clear, then blurry, then clear.  This started after I did the update ios 8.3. It ruined every video I took at Disneyland. Is there a fix for this? My camera was fine before the update.

There are multiple reasons why your battery could be draining fast.
    Check the following areas
Settings > General > Background App Refresh
Turn off apps you don't use and stop them from running in the background.
Settings > Privacy > Location Services
Make sure location services is only set to "While using"
    Settings > Notifications
Go into apps that you do not use and turn off allow notifications for apps you don't want to be notified about.
Settings > Mail Contacts and Calendars > Fetch New Data
For maximum battery life turn off Push and set to manual
With push turned on emails actively sync from the providers servers and run down your battery life.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue you can try backing your phone up to iCloud and doing a software restore
this way you will know if it is a software issue or hardware.
