Ipod touch 4g backs up forever when trying to update to ios5
I'm trying to update my ipod software to ios5 but it just backs my ipod up and never goes to the next step.

Use another USB cable.

After updating to itunes 10.4 restarted my pc windows 7 64 bit, my ipod touch 3rd gen went into restore mode,when trying to restore it works for several minutes then says it cannot be restored, unexpected error occured (1604) I have followed the reslution checklists, still wont work, any thoughts?

Cannot offer any thoughts other then i am having the same problem. updated my itunes windows7 32bit ipod touch 4th gen. went into restore mode lost over 700 songs. i dont get any error messages i just cannot get into itunes store. Firewall is allowing access, etc resolution checklists done, and nothing.

Hi! Today I tried to update my ipod touch 4th generation to ios 6.0.1. But the final result was my ipod being reset to factory settings. I don't know what happened. Does it mean I lost everything on my ipod? How do I get everything back? I had backed up my ipod on my computer before updating. Will that help? I don't know what to do now. My ipod touch 8GB crashes my PC when trying to sync in itunes
Start up computer, plug in ipod, itunes open up, begins to sync ipod touch 8GB then crashes PC without any warning - just turns it off, no restart.
Any ideas how to rectify it?

Iphone 3GS is stuck at backing up window when trying to update to new 4.0

I need help...I've been trying to update both mine and my wifes iphone 3gs to the new update 4.0 for two days now...I am so fustrated. I tried unplugging and restarting the computer several time..nothing..I've tried updating the USB driver...nothing. Itunes is up to date and both phones are on verison 3.1.3. Evch time I try and update them...itunes just gets stuck at the "Backing up Iphone" stage...for hours!! Can anyone help?I was having this problem yesterday - I tried backing up by pressing sync, and by pressing update. In both cases, the back up froze at about 15%. I even let it run overnight, and someone on one of the threads I read suggested patience, but to no avail.
What finally worked for me was updating iTunes. I suspect it won't be as simple as that for everyone, but I wanted to let you know that it worked for me! I installed the update, restarted, and then pressed sync (I wasn't updating because this was my final backup of the 3GS before I got the iphone 4). The back up took about 2 minutes - the fastest one I have ever witnessed. Best of luck to all of you still having problems. -

Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes." -
My ipod touch version (4.3.5) has a problem. When trying to update my device to ios 5.1, i backed up my device and clicked "Update." but when i did, several pop ups appeared and i clicked yes or continue, but no cancel. Then, when the pop ups stopped, something else popped up and it says"backing up ____'s ipod" but that took like 5-12 hous to complete! And when it finally finishes, nothing happens. My ipod is the same, and nothing has changed. Am i doing something wrong? please help me! By the way i am using a pc not a mac. And now my ipod touch just says "Sync In Progress" And in the slide to unlock it says "slide to cancel" :|

To recover now, close iTunes, use the Task Manager if necessary, disconnect the iPod and reboot the computer. They try restoring the iPod.. You may have to place the iPod in Recovery Mode to allow the restore. -

You need to restore.
Everything should be on your computer, so you can just sync it back.

iPod touch 4 gives message "Cannot Download" "there is not enough available storage to download...You can manage your storage in settings." when trying to update or install one of the apps, but not other apps. You need to delete some item (apps, music, photos etc) from the iPod,.However, sometime files get corrupt. To determine that connect the iPod to your computer and click on the iPod under Devices in iTunes. How much storage is used by the "other" category. If over 1 1/2 GB that indicates corrupted files.
To get the "other" down to normal value you need to restore your iPod usually restoring from backup works but sometimes restoring to factory settings.new iPod is required./ -

- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Sync problem - earlier today I updated both iTunes and my iPod Touch. Since then, I have tried syncing the two. The iPod Touch claims that there is no music on the iPod, however, when I connect it to my computer it says my full library is on there. At present, I am unable to listen to songs on the iPod when not connected to the computer. What can I do to fix this?
