IPod touch 4g battery

On Friday night I turned my fully charged iPod off before going to bed and turned it back on in the morning to find a half empty battery. Last night I left it on with the wifi off and the battery remained full in the morning. How could this happen?

On Friday night (when the battery drained) the iPod was fully powered off
On Thursday night it was sleeping with wifi off
I turn my iPad 2 off evey night aswel and no battery drain?
The iPod has been on for 24 hours now and the battery is still 99-100%

If my iPod Touch 5 battery is failing, can I pay Apple to send me a refurbished one before I send them the one with a failing battery? I don't want to go without my ITouch.  I really don't want to go without it but I dont want to have to purchase a new one.  The battery life is abysmal, and I am reluctant to upgrade my ios system to ios8 because all I ever see are complaints about upgrades killing the battery.  I am still on ios6.  When I upgraded my macbook pro (which is now DEAD) the battery got worse.
I am just sick of it.  I called apple about my itouch battery and the help was terrible.  All they were telling me to do was do a restart and UPGRADE TO THE LATEST IOS TO SEE IF THAT SOLVES THE BATTERY PROBLEM.  They would not even tell me what to do if that would not work.  Very rude.I kept asking and I finally had to find out myself through my own research that they cant replace the battery; instead they send you a refurbished ipod.  They never told me that on the phone and they kept giving me the run around when I kept asking them what I should do if the IOS upgrade did not work or made the battery worse.  Hopefully someone can answer my initial question.  Thanks guys.  I have a charger that I sometimes use plugged in to the ipod ( not all the time, I know that is bad for the battery)  and I thought my battery life should be better than it is because I sometimes use it on the charger  ( it should save the battery).

Not that I know of. You can do the exchange at an Apple store if they have refurbished ones in stock

    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. I suspect a hardware problem  due to the hotness. If iTunes can't see the iPod then uor only hope if to contact a data recovery company for getting data off the iPod. If you have an iPod backup you can restore another iPod, iPhone or iPad from the backup to get the data that was in the backup

  • Is ipod touch low battery life normal?

I just bought my new ipod touch. I found the battery life is quite short. Every day i have to charge it twice. Now I am keeping to use my ipod touch as less as possible to manage charging it once a day. This is really not compared to a regular phone, which you probably can use 3 or 4 days to recharge again.
The so-called dock adapter inside the box is quite tricky! I thought it is the power adapter. Normally when you buy a cellphone, it comes with the power adapter. But for ipod touch, you have to buy power adapter separately! I even don't know what's the use of this 'plastic' dock adapter. i called Apple and asked "You call this plastic piece an adapter!". It's a little funny!
During my first week using my ipod touch, it got stuck or crashed TWICE, two times! One time is when it downloaded an email with a 8Mb attachement.
In addition, I feel quite confusing with so many accounts with Apple, such as Apple store account, iTune account, iChat account, MobileMe account, and even this discussion forum account. Now I have 3 Apple IDs!
The use of MacBook is so far so good.
This is my experience with Apple's products!
Welcome comments and sharing your experience! i just couldn't help keeping myself silent.

Is ipod touch low battery life normal
Yes and no. Even in normal usage, Safari and videos can kill the battery in 4 - 5 hours, whereas music with the screen and WiFi off should last for 22 hours. Most iPT's can last for days in sleep mode, even with WiFi left "ON".
My previous iPod Touch had no battery problems -- the charge would only drop significantly when being used, not while sleeping. Now I have a replacement iPod Touch (the previous one couldn't install the 2.0 Update), and this one won't even last overnight in sleep mode.
Here's what I did in my last test: Turned all the WiFi services off -- Push: OFF, Fetch: OFF, Location Services: OFF, Ask to Join Networks: OFF, WiFi: OFF. Fully recharged the iPT, disconnected it and left it shut down overnight. Booted it up the next day, full battery (Okay so far). Next, I left the iPod Touch in sleep mode for the entire day (8am - 6pm), still full battery (Great!). At 9:00pm, turned on WiFi (and none of the other items mentioned above), used Safari for about 15 minutes, battery went down one notch ~ 90%. (Still normal) Put the iPT into sleep mode, but this time with WiFi left "ON". Woke up the next morning, and the battery plummeted to 10% in about 5 minutes. (NOT GOOD AT ALL).
My previous iPod Touch would have still had 90-80% battery the next morning. And while I would generally suspect the 2.0 Update being the culprit, everyone else I know has been running 2.0 without any problems -- no installation problems, no battery problems. I've been cursed with both issues in two separate iPods.
(I should also mention. I have not yet had a chance to install any media or applications on this iPod Touch, so there's no chance an errant application has somehow triggered a battery drain. This is just a plain iPT with the 2.0 Update and a restore of my Safari bookmarks.)

Can you reset the device by holding the sleep and home button until the Apple logo comes back again?
If this does not work, try to connect in recovery mode, explained here: iOS: Unable to restore

  • My iPod Touch 5g Battery would drop while charging

My iPod Touch 5g 32GB's Battery (which I got last year, March 2014) would drop lately whenever I attempt to charge. I have been observing it closely for two days: It would be charging, it would be connected - but the battery percentage would be dropping (i.e. at one point it will be 95% in a few more minutes it would drop to 93%)
These are the things to take in consideration:
I use the Battery Doctor app
The battery drop would often occur when the cable somewhat disconnects and reconnects
iTunes would reveal a message that the "iPhone couldn't be recognized"
I would "soft-reset" the device (pressing down the power and home button till it shuts down and powers up again with the Apple logo) and I would notice that the Battery Doctor app's charging indicator would have a significant change: Let's say, when I shut the device down it was at 90%, when I open it up again it would be at 95%, In two cases (yesterday and today), the charging would go smoothly till it hits 100% after the "soft-reset".
I couldn't tell if the iPod Touch's battery has the problem or its just the cable.
Hoping anyone could give me suggestions.
    Thanks!

You can also contact Appel Support, they can check the battery life online.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable

  • My new ipod touch's Battery life is extremely short

I bought 10 days ago the latest iPod touch and it is getting very poor battery life.
Even without using multitasking and with having notifications turned off, it is running from full to empty in less than two hours.
What is it that I have to do between all the things people recomend?
    - Reset Network Settings
    - set it up as a new device with no apps
    - Powering off every night
    - Shutting down Wi-fi all the time
    - turning off push mail, notifications, etc
    - Turning off "Location Services"
I've tried doing the lasts 4 things and nothing improved..
Or is it just because it's new and in the future it'll work longer?
Thanks you all for your useful answers!

  • Ipod touch 5 battery life?

Does anyone know what the batter life of the ipod touch 5 is when playing games, such as Real Racing 2 or Rise of The Dark Knight? Just want to make sure my battery is working right.

    Apple says:
Video playback time: Up to 8 hours when fully charged
The spec for the 4G said:
Video playback time: Up to 7 hours when fully charged
However, based on eperience with the 4G, I would expect maybe 4-6 hours on the 5G.

  • Ipod touch 5g battery life problem?

Hi everyone, i just got thenew ipod touch 5g 32gb blue about 3 weeks ago and it runs ios 7.0.4. Now i have been thinking that i might have a bad battery because when i play games the battery runs out in labout 2 hours. i play games like wipeout and clash of clans. Also the ipod touch charges in about 45 mins from about 20 percent to 100 percent. On the apple website it said that it should take 4 hours. I use toua abelkins wall charger. Plz help me because i do not want to retuurn this ipod touch and there is no apple store near where i live. P.S. I have already tried restoring it but to no use. Also i would to know why the battery indicator goes up a lttle when i lock my ipod. Is this a ios 7 issue? I have also tried calibrating the ipod touch by letting the batery fully drain and then charging it up to 100 percent but to no avail. My freinds said that you have to completely drain your battery til auto shutdown when you first get it out of the box but i did not do that so could that bethe problem? And when the ipod auto shuts itself down the i plug in the chargers and it boots up right away, i thoutgh it was supposed to take 10 mins??? Plz help me because i love my ipod very much???!!!

Battery life on the iPod 5 running IOS 7 is well ... poor for gaming. To fully charge it takes around 4 hours +/-. The battery meter jumping around is normal, the metering system on this  iPod is at best an estimate and will vary up and down depending on how hard your working your iPod. Run games or anything with high res. video the meter jumps down, listen to music from you library or put it to sleep and the meter will go up--  And will drive you "NUTS" if you spend to much time watching it. Your game time seems a bit short, but the more stuff going on, higher graphics, using Wi-Fi etc. will drain your iPod in short order. Most seem to get about 3 - 4 hours of gaming, 4 - 6 hours of video, more if watched on lower resolution. 6 - 9 surfing the web,  something around 18 - 20 hours listening to your library with the screen mostly off and about 36 - 40 hours on standby from a fully charged battery. Don't bother with getting the meter replaced with %. It will not work any better, just make you nuts. As for the theory of drain the battery then fully charge it, Bogus! These things use Li-ion batteries, they don't have memory issues like Ni-CAD batteries. Just watch your 20% warning with the battery, thing of it as a low fuel light on your car, when it comes up charge your iPod. You never want to completely drain a Li-ion battery if you ever do it will never charge again, but they have charge protections to prevent you from doing that. Long story short; If your getting something around the use times listed above, it's normal. Goggle C-net about extending battery life many good things to try. Hope this helps, Good luck.

  • IPod Touch Strangeness: Battery life and iPhoto

I have a first generation iPod Touch (8 GB), running v.2.1. I recently went on a long trip, and the iPod Touch worked as expected, with pretty long battery life, etc. However, on my return, I've noticed two oddities. First, now whenever I attach my iPod Touch to its usual computer (iMac G5/20"/2.0 GHz), not only does iTunes start, but iPhoto also starts. It's not like I loaded a bunch of photos on the Touch-just the same 5 photos that have been on it for a year. Secondly, since returning, my battery life seems to have gotten much shorter. I had not used it for a couple of days earlier this week, and the Touch was completely discharged, despite the fact Wi-fi was turned off during this time. Thinking this may have been a fluke, I recharged it. Last night, I turned it on (full battery), and played a game on it for a bit. When I was done, the battery was slightly discharged. I made sure wifi was turned off again, and let it sit overnight. This morning, the battery was again half discharged. Any idea what is going on with these two things?
    Thanks in advance.

Only Apple knows.  The testers for iOS5 may also know but they are prevented from telling people now. by thieir NDA (non disclosure agreement).

  • IPod Touch and Battery Life

Hello guys, just question for you.
I think that soon I'll go get myself a new iPod and still can not decide between the iPod touch 64 gigs and the Classic.
I am looking for a device where I can store all my music and has a good battery life. Now the Classic would be great as I would not need to upgrade for a few years ... the only worry is that it's a bit too fragile, due to the presence of an hard drive and not flash memory.
On the other side I wonder if the iPod touch would resist for a week without charging it....I'm the kind of user who often flickrs tru the list looking for other songs etc and also most of my songs have been ripped at 320kbs so that means the player has to fish into the memory more often
    Any advice? Thanx in advance

    Hi Antonio,
I've had a classic (original 160gb) for a few years now. It's taken a few knocks over time... nothing hardcore/abusive, but still works fine.
Apple say that you get 36hours of music from a classic and 30hours from a touch
I listen to my classic on my way to/from work, and a few hours of the day at work. I can get a whole week out of one charge easy.
I recently bought a touch with some gift vouchers from a work bonus. The usability of a touch is far superior to a classic. Movies, games, apps, wi-fi are all amazingly good, but drain your battery. A charge usually lasts 2-3 days, but I do use my work wi-fi to check facebook & eBay sometimes (banned on work computers)
I'd say touch trumps the classic, but if your music is all 320k, your going to fill 64gb fast!!! One thing to bear in mind is it's almost new Apple time. With the advent of iPhone OS4, there are many rumours and speculations, all of which are totally unfounded, but it is widely assumed that June/July will yield a new iphone, and possibly a new touch. There is no way to know for sure what the specs will be, but the new touch may come in greater sizes than 64gb

  • Ipod Touch 4g battery life

My iPod Touch 4th generation's battery is rubbish. I charge my iPod overnight and when I get it out in the morning, and I play on it for about 20 minutes, and then my battery dies.
Has this happened to anyone else??? I am going to take it back to the Apple Store and get a replacement.

Double click the home button and close the existing apps at the bottom of the screen, multitasking is a battery killer to be honest.
Take a look at this before getting a replacement: http://www.apple.com/batteries/ipods.html
