IPod Touch 4g  CONSTANTLY  needs to be restored.

Here's my problem in a nutshell -- about every second or third time I try to sync my iPod, iTunes tells me it "cannot read the contents" of it and that I need to restore it. After I restore, I can sync successfully one or two times before it says the same thing again. Every time (until now) I've been restoring to backup, but even a factory restore had the same results. I did a factory restore two days ago, and today I'm already having to restore it again. The longest it's gone without iTunes calling for a restore was about ten days.
I bought my Touch about two months ago, and it's been giving me this problem pretty much from the start. Other than this syncing issue, it works perfectly. If it weren't for the time-consuming inconvenience of having to reload 50gb of music and videos every time this happens, it might not even bother me so much.
I've tried every suggestion I can find -- resetting, restarting (the computer and the iPod), changing cables. I always wait for sync processes to finish before touching it, and I always eject it in iTunes before unplugging it. The iPod works fine in the meantime and never gives any warning (like glitches or crashing) before a restore is needed. But it's such a consistent problem that I'm worried now that this might be hardware-related. This is my first Touch, but not my first iPod, and I'm no newbie when it comes to dealing with iTunes' bizarre and frustrating behavior, but I have completely run out of ideas at this point. Advice?

Mine does the same thing. Bought it April 2010. For the first month or so it sync'ed fine. Then it just stopped. Have done about a dozen restores. Will sync 2 or three time then has problems reading the device. Am running latest iTunes and iPOD software. The Apple store says the device is OK, so it not there problem and they have no solution or suggestion.
I am so fed up with this POS and it kludgy software. Seeing as this is 2011, home computers have been around for over 25 years, the iTunes software is version 10, I don't think it is too much to ask for a device to just plug in and work.
I have looked at and considered iPhones and iPads. But there is no way I would take one for free, forget about paying for it. If this thing wasn't so expensive it would have been smashed months ago.

Ipod touch 4th gen needed a new screen and sleep/wake switch.  So, I replace them.  I was able to get to settings and do "erase all content and settings".  I am not able to totally shut this device off as it keeps restarting after a few seconds.  I have used itunes to restore and also recover.  Device will actually shut off and stay shut off if I leave it connected to the computer.  The moment I unplug (3 seconds) the apple logo appears, it boots, unlock screen appears, I can unlock and operate normally, unplugged or not.  Just cant get it to completely shut down unplugged.  Any thoughts?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
      - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem. Maybe you installed a bad component or damaged something during the repair/replacement.
Apple will not help since you worked on the iPod yourself.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

if i wan to sell my ipod touch do i need to change my apple id or itunes store Id? i scare people will misused my id and personal information.

    Hello 13loodz,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
if i wan to sell my ipod touch do i need to change my apple id or itunes store Id? i scare people will misused my id and personal information.
If you plan on selling your iPod touch, I would recommend restoring it via iTunes. This will wipe all content from the iPod and set it back to its original default settings. This way nobody will have any sort of access to your ID and such. However, it might not be a bad idea to change the password on your account as you should probably be doing periodically anyways for extra security.
And if you want to really go the extra mile, see this article about securely erasing your iPod Touch.

  • ITunes says my iPod is corrupted and needs to be restored..

Ok, when I started up my computer today and opened iTunes to listen to my songs, it gives me an error message that my iPod is corrupted and needs to be restored before I can use it again. I've tried using different programs to back up my songs on my iPod to my computer but it's not working because my computer is also saying that disk J: (the usb port my iPod uses) needs to be reformatted, so I can't do anything with it out of iTunes..
What it's looking like is that I'm going to lose ALL the songs on my iPod (around $600 worth) and I'm not going to get anything back..
So what do I do to fix this problem without losing all of the songs I've bought?

    Hello CoulntThinkOfAUser,
If you purchased the songs from the itunes store you wouldn't really loose anything. This is how to recover all of your previous purchases.
    How to download past purchases.
    Hope this helps.
