IPod Touch 4G Dock Connector

Is is possible to use the new Touch 4G dock connector with Bose Sounddock Speaker systems? I can't get it to connect to my Bose Sounddock 10 or Portable. The dock connector seems way too tight, I'm not used to having to force any iPod to get it connected. Currently, I can only connect the Touch to things using the USB cable. Is there a trick that I'm missing? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'd hate to have to return this but if I can't use it with my speakers then back to Apple the two of them I bought go.

Hi, please help me, you seem to be the only solution for my problem in the whole internet... I am having the same issue with my brand new iPod Touch 4th gen. And as you said, I noticed that annoying ¿plastic? in the iPod's connector dock. So, how did you manage to move that piece apart of its place? I'm trying with some sort of needles, but I did not succeed. Once I move it, should I place the iPod in the dock and leave it there all night? It comes to my mind, that if i do this, its probable that then, maybe, the dock will fit with no problems. Please help me, I'm kind of desperate.
PS: Sorry if my english is a little bit rusty, im from Argentina.

Hello, my daughter's Ipod Touch 4g will no longer charge and taking a close look at it, a few of the pins in the dock connector are bent. Does Apple repair these? Because I am having a hard time finding a repair place in town

Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store and ask.  The Genius may be able to bend then back.  The Genius may also replace your iPod at no cost or charg you the following for a replacement.

  • IPod (15 GB dock connector) 2003-04 how long it is supposed to run?

iPod (15 GB dock connector) 2003-04 touch wheel 15 GB
Can't seem to find any specs on how long it is supposed to run.
Perhaps using the iPod in cold weather makes it drain faster?
Tried repairing this iPod by using Disk Mode.
I've been running the iPod indoors for over one hour now and it is at 75% charged. Still think that there is a problem in that when I turn the iPod off and place it in hold mode, when I slide the hold mode back off the iPod is fully booted up, which means that it never really turned off. At best it runs one hour outdoors in the cold. My question, how long it is supposed to run.?

It's really hard to say how long a five or six year old battery should run. However, using any Li-Ion battery in the cold will adversely affect playing time. Remember also, that as the battery ages, its capacity decreases. If this is the original battery, I'd say you've gotten your money's worth.
You may get an answer about your iPod's original playing time if you post your query in the forum for older iPods Here

  • 2nd Gen iPod fit the dock connector of of 3rd Gen Color iPod?

So I have a 2nd Gen iPod (4 round buttons) dock connector 40GB and want to get the new universal dock with the IR sensory so I can control it with the remote. In the description of the new dock it says it is compatible with my model but doesn't say it comes with that particular dock apdapter. However it says that it does come with a the dock adapter for the 40GB color display. My question is does mine have the same physical dimensions as the 40GB color display model? And so will it fit into the dock adaptors that come with the dock or do I need to get some additional adaptor? I thought that they were identical in size, though on Apples "Identifying different iPod models" page it doesn't list the physical dimensions of them. If anyone knows this that would be great.

    hi Zachary!
good lord. something appears to have gone horribly wrong with the footnoting on the Universal Dock KB doc:
    Learn about iPod Universal Dock
okay ... here's what i think is going on.
it's saying that five different adapters come with the dock.
five of the adapters listed in the table have little superscript "1"s next to them (adapters 3-7).
the first of those two "bullet point" notes below the table says "Included with the iPod Universal Dock".
sooooooo ... my thought is that the five adapters you get with the dock are adapters 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7.
but your 40G four-round-button ipod is a dock connector ipod according to this document:
    Identifying different iPod models
which i think, according to the table on the Universal Dock page, means that you need a number 2 adapter, and so you're going to have to get an additional three pack of adapters for it.
... that all sounds plausible, but i'd prefer it if someone with both a universal dock and a 40GB dock connector ipod could actually tell us which adapter they have to use ...
    love, b

  • IPod touch and camera connector

I have the iPod camera connector for my 5G 30GB iPod video, I have tried to connect the iPod camera connector to the iPod touch and my Nikon D50 but it says this accessory is not supports by the Touch.
Is there a way to make this work? Is it planned as an addition later? BAsically because using the iPod touch for a photo viewer would be awesome.
    Cheers, ILMV

No, the hardware is different. The new connector has hardware that facilitates movie rentals. It is possible that this interferes with the camera connector in the same way it does with a large number of other accessories that worked with previous generations of iPods with dock connectors but which do NOT work with the new iPods.
But it really doesn't matter. The "new" iPods have been out for almost six months. The camera connector was never a big seller. If it had been a money maker for Apple, they either would have release a new one or, in your theory, released a software upgrade so they could keep selling them. They haven't. The odds are that they never will. Go buy a stack of memory cards. They're cheap these days.

  • Ipod touch 4g dock and lcd repair/replacement costs

I have recently broke my ipod's lcd screen in a unneccesary attempt to repair the dock connector. I am concerned that it may have voided my warranty, and I haven't taken it apart fully. I have found out the answer to why my ipod stopped syncing about 2 months ago and has recently been unable to charge because I attempted to get the metal prongs back in place, which may have also voided my warranty. I bought my ipod touch in April 2012 and it broke in December to the point where it is unusable. My budget is pretty flat and i'm wondering how much the repair cost would be and if I should consider buying a new ipod touch or getting the one I have now repaired. I cannot find any place where I can get it repaired at a discount price, and I'm also wondering if I can get my ipod repaired at no charge since it is still less than a year old.

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $99 for 8, 16 or 32 GB one or $199 for 64 GB one. They do not fix yours.

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.

  • IPod HiFi - What dock connector do I use for a 80GB (5th Generation) ipod??

    Hi,
Just got a new shinny ipod HiFi, however what dock connector can I use for an 80GB (5thG) as the connectors only go up to 60GB??? Or does the ipod come with a dock connector? Can anyone point me in the right direction, pretty please.
Any suggestions would be great help.
    Cheers
    Sian

You mean the dock adapter, right? The little plastic piece with a slot?
Use the one for the 60GB.
The only thing they do is make the iPods it correctly in the dock.
The dock connector is the slot on the bottom of the iPod.

  • IPod 60GB Color - Dock Connector Issue

I've just been given a 60GB Color Display iPod, and I'm having the weirdest problem.
According to the literature I can find, this iPod should be the same in all respects as the 40GB 4G iPods we already own. However, when I put it in my Bose Sound Dock, nothing happens. Similarly when I put it in a Dock Connector cradle.
However, if I unplug the cable from the Dock Connector cradle and plug it directly into the iPod, it works fine.
And, when I slot the iPod into my iHome alarm clock, it works just fine.
The natural conclusion is that there is something slightly screwy with the pins on the iPod connector, but I'd appreciate any other opinions before I go to the effort of returning the thing.
    Thanks
      Windows 2000

OK. I worked it out. The 60GB is ever so slightly bigger than the 40GB so it doesn't fit properly in the cradles, or in the Bose with the 40GB holder installed. Bum.

  • Clock radio won't recognize ipod touch when docked

I bought my daughter a Sony Clock Radio that you can attach an Ipod touch too, but for some reason it won't play the music through the radio.  At first I thought it was the radio, but then docked my sons' Ipod touch, and it works.  Trying to figure out what setting needs to be adjusted.  Any suggestions?

What model and iOS is on the iPod that works?
Does Sony say it will work with a 4G with iOS 6.1.5?
    Sometimes this works:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • How to Stop iPhoto launch when iPod Touch is docked?

Each and every time I dock the iPod Touch (2nd Gen), iPhoto opens and asks if I want to import new photos. Every time!
But I already imported them and I want to keep them (screenshots made with iPod Touch image capture). So why does it keep asking?
How can I stop the automatic launch of iPhoto to ask this same question?
There are no settings in iTunes for the connected iPod Touch. There are no settings in iPhoto.
And I have reviewed past messages suggesting there is a setting in the Mac OSX app called "Image Capture" - "Down load to: Picture, Movies and Music folder" Automatic Task: set to None - but that does not work either.
What else can I do? It is VERY annoying!
    Thanks & Aloha, AW

For some reason it does not work that way. You could always try turning off the ability to open iPhoto when a camera-like device is attached, using Grab.
Mind you, if they are imported into iPhoto and you sync images with the iPod touch, then you might as well delete from that folder otherwise they are duplicated on the touch.

  • Ipod touch 4g dock adapter

I have recently purchased an ipod touch 4g. I currently use a universal dock and would like to use it properly with my new ipod touch. I have looked at the "Official" ipod touch 4g adapter and it doesnt seem to fit very well. I am wondering if there is a dock that will better support the ipod touch 4g? Perhaps the adapter from the 2g touch? If anyone has any insight it would be much appreciated

The Apple Universal Dock works for many generations of iPod Touch's.
If you purchased one of these newer models it should have come with the correct dock adpater.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC746LL/A?fnode=MTY1NDA0OQ&mco=MjAyNDIwNTA
The only thing you need to change is the adapter for the correct iPod Touch.
#16 dock adapter is for the 2nd and 3rd generation model.
#20 dock adapter is for the 4th generation model.
If you don't have the #20 dock adapter, they are available from Apple here:
