Ipod Touch 4G download new version fails

After about 2 hours or so of downloading an update to my Ipod touch 4G, I get an error message that the download failed. (sorry didn't write down what it actually said, I get frustrated, been trying this for weeks...) Any suggestions?
-Ipod touch 4G
-Windows XP PC
-I believe I have the latest version of Itunes, 10.something....

Try a manual install, as outlined in the link below.

  • Trouble getting iPod touch to show new version of iTunes when I connect to iMac

When I connect our ipod touch, itunes message pulls up and says it cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 10.5 or later and to go to itunes to download.  I have done that and restarted all devices, but it still brings that message up everytime I plug it in.  What do I need to do?

Thank you so much for your help!!!!   We are new to apple so trying to figure all this out just takes time.  I will restart the imac then try to connect.  Thanks again so much!!!

  • Can I exchange my older version of ipod touch for the new version?

I know it will probably cost money, I just want to know if I can do this all, and if I can, will it cost less money than if I just got the new virson?

    No.
They have a recycle program.  You can turn in your ipod for a 10% discount on a new one.

  • Downloaded new version fails to start

I have just downloaded the latest iTunes release and restarted the computer. Now, when I try to launch the application, I get the message 'The folder "iTunes" cannot be found or created, and is required. The default location for this folder is inside the "Music" folder.'
I have checked that the "Music" still exists and my iTunes Library and other iTunes folders and files remain therein.
Does anyone know how I fix this problem?

I posted this in the wrong group and I do not know how I delete it.

Is your computer still authorized in the Store menu in iTunes?

When I changed to my new MacBookPro I had to authorize it although I used TimeMachine to transfer my settings and data.

Not if you first do a sync and have iTunes make a backup. However, if your only copy of the iTunes data is in the Touch, then you need to first copy the data to a new iTunes Library using third-party software such as Phone To Mac.

Try removing and then reinstalling the Apple software using these instructions.
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
The above containes a link for XP. Also. make sure you install the correct Apple software, It comes in 32 and 64 bit and you need the one that is the same as the computer OS

Syncing music via iTunes is only one way: from iTunes to your iPod.  If you need to copy the music from your iPod back to your PC, see this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different ways to do this.

If you have problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop
    * Firefox 5.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
    * Install the new version that you have downloaded

  • How to download new version of ios 5.0 in my ipod ? i cant download new apps and i cant connect to itunes store.

how to download new version of ios 5.0 in my ipod ? i cant download new apps and i cant connect to itunes store.?

Only with iOS5 or later you can update/upgrade directly from the iPod/iPhone.
When your version of iOS is lower than 5, you must connect to iTunes and then update.
It is best when you update iTunes to the latest version first.

  • Downloaded new version of itunes, did a sync on my ipod and now music from my external drive is missing?  Help

Downloaded new version of itunes, and then subsequently performed a sync on my ipod nano as I had purchased a new song from itunes store.  I now only have 25 songs on my ipod as it removed all of my other music.  My music is stored on an external drive.  I downloaded the music there from cd's that I own.  Can anyone help me fix this.  I am going on holidays soon and want to have my ipod loaded with music for the trip.  Thanks

    hi mike,
First of all, your music is not gone. Its there, I promise. Second of all, you need to always make sure you backup your music elsewhere because funky things happen and computers do take nosedives.
Ok, go into File on the iTunes Task bar and click on add folder to library. Your music files should be under my documents>my music. Let me know how it goes...
