IPod Touch 4g in recovery mode, won't restore!

I have a 4th generation iPod touch that I've had for about 3 years now. I hadn't used it for about 2 weeks because I got an iPhone 5. Anyway, when I went to turn it on, it was dead so I plugged it into my Macbook and it opens iTunes and shows that my iPod is in recovery mode and needs to be restored. However, when I try to restore it iTunes gets stuck in "Waiting for iPod" mode and the progress bar on the actual iPod doesn't move. I'm getting so frustrated because I don't know what to do.
I'd pay the $99 for a new Touch but I bought a 16gb iPhone because I had the Touch.
Please help!

I also had a 4th gen touch that became a "brick" and was unable to restore and even after the genius bar examined it they declared it "unrecoverable" but my persistance paid off and I was able to finally figure out how to restore it.
This worked for mine, I don't guarantee it will work for yours but if you have gone through the restoration process only to find itunes is stuck on "waiting for ipod" and your touch shows the apple logo with the status bar is empty below it try this:  Press and hold ONLY THE POWER BUTTON (the button on the edge of the ipod) and DO NOT LET GO.  If yours is like mine it will then start the process of restoration with the status bar filling, then it will verify the restore, then it will update the firmware.  LET ME MAKE THIS CLEAR - DO NOT RELEASE THE POWER BUTTON DURING THIS ENTIRE PROCESS - it will take several minutes and your finger will get tired but do not let go!
Once it is done installing the firmware there will be a popup from itunes saying your ipod will restart and appear in itunes.  When you see this you can now release the power button and itunes will restart and ask you about the final process of either restoring previous settings or starting with a "clean restore".  I don't think it matters which you choose but I chose to restore my old settings and it did work, and then my ipod touch worked just like before!
If this works for you too please reply to this post so others will know mine wasn't just a fluke.  It took me 2 weeks of trying all sorts of iterations of pushing buttons and releasing them at various times to get it to work, but finally this was the ONLY way I could find to get mine to complete the restore process!
Good Luck!

    - Try deleting the downloaded firmware file and try restoring again. A new file will be downloaded. It is located here:

    - Try placing the iPod in DFU made and then restore.

  • IPod Touch Hung In Recovery Mode During Attempted Restore/Upgrade to 1.1.4

I've tracked some similar posts, but am unable to determine a resolution given my setup:
    iPod Touch 8GB
    iTunes 7.6.1.9
Windows XP SP2 (Professional) on Dell Latitude D620
Following an unsuccessful upgrade to version 1.1.4, my iPT is stuck in Restore. Here's the gist(very similar to some other posts)
Clicking Restore in iTunes kicks off the 165MB download for 1.1.4.
It completes successfully, then when attempting the "install" the process bar lights up full, but hangs. (Tried it for 30 min, 2 hrs, and 4 hrs. same result)
    When I review my iPodUpdater.log (c:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Updater Logs\iPodUpdater.log) it has a final line stating---
libusbrestore: 0xD88, hh:mm:ss.sss => <Restore Device ########>: operation 13 progress 98 (and that hh:mm:ss.sss was hours ago in my last two attempts)
I've deleted the .ipsw file multiple times and repeated the download, restore/update sequence, but with the same results- process bar hangs on "installing" and the log file always stops at operation 13 progress 98.
I've even tried pointing to older versions of the .ipsw update files on my machine (via [Shift] + click on the Restore button in iTunes which permits one to browse to the desired update file), but it still hangs.
In related posts, others have used a different machine (namely a Mac) and restored their iPTs successfully. That's unfortunately not an option for me.
Short of going to a local Apple Store for a replacement, any thoughts here on how to correct this?
    Thanks!

Of course first off update to the latest version of itunes, which as of this message is 7.6.2. Then Turn your ipod off by holding the sleep/hold button down till the power off slider appears, slide to turn it off. Open itunes on the computer. Press and hold the home button on the ipod while plugging it into the computer. Keep the home button pressed continuously while itunes brings up the restore message. Make sure you select setup as new ipod, do not use a backup from itunes. Keep the home button held down throughout the entire process of restoring.

  • Ipod touch stuck in recovery mode and will not restore. error code 3194

ipod touch stuck in recovery mode, will not restore and comes up with error code 3194, itunes is up to date, please help

Hi @rchangel - Thanks for the ideas...
Yes - it won't let you install the 32 bit version on a 64 bit machine.
I've had a cursory look at the SP1 release notes, and couldn't spot anything vital - what critical stuff do you know of in SP1?
I don't want to have to go through all the pain of setting up VM's, reinstalling iTunes, getting all my album art back in etc. (though I could, as I do have Win7 pro). I've also heard that running iTunes in Windows 7 compatibility mode might help. Can anyone confirm whether that actually works?
I think it's in Apple's gift to fix this issue, given that they say that they support Windows 7. So far I've had no feedback from a mail I sent to Apple, and the number of users reporting this problem keeps going up and up.
I want Apple to recognise that there is a problem, and then I want them to fix it.

  • HT201263 When my ipod touch is in recovery mode, when i try to restore it, the itunes page says the website has timed out so it won't recover. Can anyone please help me?

When my ipod touch is in recovery mode (when I try to re-store it) the itunes page sayes the website has been timed out and so it won't re-store. There is a limited time, whilst restoring the ipod, it lasts for approx 5 mins, then asks to start again all over again. Can anyone please help me?

This device is not eligible for the requested build (Also sometimes displayed as an "error 3194")
Update to the latest version of iTunes. Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard) users may need to download iTunes 10.6.3.
Third-party security software or router security settings can also cause this issue. To resolve this, followTroubleshooting security software issues.
Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to performunauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. Uninstall the unauthorized modification software from the computer.
Edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from your hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect. For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see iTunes: Troubleshooting iTunes Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you do not uninstall the unauthorized modification software prior to editing the hosts file, that software may automatically modify the hosts file again on restart.
Avoid using an older or modified .ipsw file. Try moving the current .ipsw file (see Advanced Steps > Rename, move, or delete the iOS software file (.ipsw) below for file locations), or try restoring in a new user to ensure that iTunes downloads a new .ipsw.

  • My iPod touch is in recovery mode, how do I get it out of this?

My daughter's iPod touch is in recovery mode (we know this by the code it gives us when she plugs it in to the computer), how do we get it out of this?  We have tried resetting by holding down the on/off button and the other button on the bottom front of the iPod for 30 seconds to a minute and nothing happens.

Two ways to get the iPod Touch out of recovery mode.
From iTunes click "Restore" this will download the latest iOS for your iPod Touch and install it.
Second way is to press and hold both the home button and the sleep button for around ten seconds and release them when the Apple logo shows on the screen.

    - If in recovery mode the screen will have an iTunes logo with an USB plug.
    - Have you tried connecting it to your computer for a n hw and then see if it appears in iTunes. If it does restore the iPod.
    - If screen is blank, try placing he iPod in recovery mode and then restoring. For recovery mode:
