  • IPod Touch 1g not recognized in Windows and iTunes

    Hi all
i have a old iPod Touch 1g at home. the problem is that the device is death. I can hold Home and Pwr button for a long time but nothing happens.
Even when i connect it to a Pc running XP, Windows 7 or a Mac the screen stays black and no error from windows that drivers are being installed or the "USB-sound".
I looked already in the FAQ and on Google but all the solutions don't work for me.
In short words, i have a death iPod and i have no clue how to fix that or even if its possible to fix it.
Can someone give se some alternative solutions?
    Regards

would there be the possibility to send the ipod to apple that they can reinstall the software?
i would take it to the nearest Apple store, especially if it would still be under warranty.
    how much would that cost?
if it were still under warranty, they might replace it on the spot at the Apple store.
if you connect your "new" iPod to iTunes, you will be given the option to "restore" your latest backup from the old to the new device.

  • I installed a ipod shuffle, named it differently, now my ipod classic is not recognized by computer or itunes.  How do i fix?

I installed an ipod shuffle with different name.  Now my ipod classic is no longer recognized by computer or itunes.  It appears that Itunes decided that I had replaced the classic with a shuffle.  Classic battery doesnt seem to want to charge, and cannot restore.
    How do i fix?

  • IPod Touch (2nd gen) not recognized by computer and iTunes

When I connect my iPod Touch to my laptop, running Windows 7, neither the computer nor iTunes recognizes my iPod. Everything worked before with Vista.
When I plug the iPod into the computer the iPod does turn on put the battery doesn't charge and the iPod does not show on the Device Manager.
I have gone through and uninstalled and the reinstalled iTunes, QuickTime, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour and Apple Application support. With no positive result. In fact I have done it twice.
In going back to make sure everything had installed I have noticed several things.
The Apple Software Update, Bonjour, iTunes folders and Common Files are located in Program Files(x86) There are also copies of the Bonjour, iPod, Common Files, and iTunes folders are also located in the Program Files folder. Are these file locations correct?
Also, I have read somewhere that there should be usbaapl.cab, usbaapl.inf, usbaapl.sys files. I can't find any of these file. Are these files necessary?
    Any help will be appreciated.

greetings rkonrv and welcome to Apple discussions !
it seems your have seen this KG then.
maybe this tip by Beebopp (though a little off topic) will provide some pointers:
+This solution is very similar to one above but worked for me. Am using iPod Touch 2nd Gen with 32 bit version of Windows Vista where the iTouch is being seen by Windows but does not show in iTunes. In my case it was being identified by Windows as a camera. I tried un-installing and re-installing iTunes and all the other Apple apps with no luck. Was almost ready to throw in the towel when I did one last search for alternate solutions and found the following instructions to reinstall the drivers, but instead of having the system look to the c:\Windows\inf or c:\windows\system 32 folders for the drivers, the path is changed to C:\program files\common files\Apple\Apple Mobile Support\Drivers, which is apparently where Vista installs the drivers. Once I changed the path the driver properly reflected the iTouch as a USB device, and not a digital camera. Try this if you are having similiar issues.+
    +Here are the steps:+
    +1. Verify you have the following files usbaapl.cat, usbaapl.inf & usbaapl.sys in the following directory "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers"+
+2. Log in using an ADMINISTRATIVE account+
+3. Single left click on START+
+4. Single left click on RUN (You may need to change the start menu to 'classic view' to see RUN, you can change back after if you like)+
    +5. Type in " devmgmt.msc " then hit Enter (Don't type in the quotes)+
+6. Look for Imaging in the Device Manager window, and click on plus sign (In Vista you may not see the "Imaging" option. Look under "Portable Devices" as an alternative)+
+7. Now you should see " Apple iPod " as a device underneath Imaging (or Portable Devices)+
+8. Right click on " Apple iPod " then single left click on Properties+
+9. Single left click on the " Driver " tab+
+10. Single left click on " Update driver "+
+11. Select " Install from a list or specific location " or "Browse my computer" whichever shows on your version of Vista+
+12. Single left click on " Include this location in the search " if shown+
+13. Paste " C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers " (Don't type in the quotes) into the box " Include this location in the search "+
+14. Single left click NEXT and keep clicking through until " Apple iPod USB Driver " is detected, if no list appears then you should see the little animated circle thingie spinning. It's looking and working. Be patient.+
+15. Hopefully you will get a successful message.+
    +16. The correct drivers(s) are now installed.+
+17. Start up iTunes, and see if you iPod is detected again.+
    good luck !

  • Ipod 4g touch is not recognized by computer and wont turn on or restore

I bought and ipod touch off a friend because he had drained the battery and forgot his passcode. I charged it in my car and he entered the wrong passcode too many times so it said ipod disabled connect to itunes. And then it shut off. I have not been able to turn it on since. I tried connecting it to my computer. My computer won't even recognize it. I tried to restore it. Nothing happened. And then while i t was still plugged in, the apple logo screen flashed on and off for about 5 minutes. After that, nothing. Any ideas? I called apple support and they couldn't help because I don't have the serial number. For some reason it is not on the back of the ipod.

  • Ipod Shuffle not recognized by computer and iTunes and does not charge

I connected my iPod to my computer but for some reason, it is not recognized at all by the computer nor iTunes. It doesn't charge either. I have tried all the USB ports and since I have Windows Vista, I cannot use the Restore Utility thingy. I purchased my iPod about 2 years ago so a warranty replacement is out of the question. Since any choices have been kicked off, can anyone find a solution to my problem? TYVM pl0x

  • Ipod Touch 4 not recognized by computer

A few months ago I got a new laptop and it runs Windows 8. I have connected my IPod and had no problems syncing it before. . . But a few days ago I tried to plug it in and sync it and my laptop is not even recognizing it. It say "USB not recognized" and tells me the device may have malfunctioned. I have tried everything I can find online so far to do. I have even reset it to factory settings, but still it does not recognize it. I have 2 cords and tried them both. It charges when I plug it into the wall charger, so I don't thing it is the charging port. . .I am out of ideas. Can anyone help me?!? Please?!?

What was the error number?  That would be very useful since the following gives actions for various errors.

Try manually placing the iPod in recovery mode to see if that will make the iPod visible in iTunes.  See:

  • My Solution for iPod Touch 3rdGen not recognized as device in iTunes

Ok, I tried everything I could, all the recomended solutions including removing itunes completely and re-installing, and nothing worked.  My iPod is recognized on another computer so I figured it to be my computer's setup... or a problem with iTunes.  In desperation I searched on line (google) and found iTunes 9.0.  I removed iTunes completely, re-booted and installed 9.0 and suddenly it worked... sort of...  The iPod Touch needs 10.5 or greater to work... so INSTEAD of removing iTunes 9.0, I did an upgrade to 10.6.1 from within iTunes and when I plugged my iPod back in... IT WORKED !!!!  I figure there was something not quite right about the fresh install from the Apple website, but the upgrade went perfectly.  I can speculate on what it was... I think the upgrade does not remove all the older files but only installs some of the components since it did NOT need to be re-booted after the live upgrade to 10.6.1....  Anyway... After 3 days of pulling my hair out, I'm SOOOOOOOoooooooo happy!!!!!!!!

    So you tried eveything here:

  • Ipod mini is not recognized by computer, or itunes

I bought this ipod mini off of ebay, and it did not come with the cd. I have installed itunes, but when i plug the ipod in and the found new hardware thing doesnt pop up, and itunes doesnt recognize the ipod is plugged in. The ipod works fine, and i have reset it. Any suggestions? Do i need that cd??

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Make sure that the iPod updater is installed...
    http://www.apple.com/ipod/download
Install that and see if the iPod shows Do Not Disconnect on the screen. If it does then open the iPod updater and restore the iPod. If it doesn't then try resetting the iPod with it connected to the computer...
