Ipod touch 4g replacement questions

My ipod touch 4th gen 16 GB has a nearly unresponsive home button and i would like to replace it. On the apple website it says it would be $100. I was just wondering if apple could also change the color of my black ipod to white in this process also. The last question I have is is it worth to just get the touch 5 and if so, will my current ipod have a trade in value at apple or will it give a discount towards the touch 5? Thanks!

If you take the device in for out of warranty replacement, they will replace it with an in-kind device. Exactly the same as the one you brought in. They will not change colors or capacity. If you want to do that, then you would want to sell the old device and purchase a new one.
As far as trade-in, Apple does not provide a trade-in program, but they do have a recycle program. It will provide a minor amount for your device and you could use that towards a new device if you wish.

  • I bought a new ipod touch to replace my old one that did not have icloud.  How do I erase my old ipod?

I just purchased a new ipod touch to replace my old ipod touch.  The reason I bought a new one is I wanted one that had the icloud that I could sync to my ipad and iphone.  I am going to give my old one to my husband.  I plugged my new ipod touch into my computer and put my musice library on it.  I then tried to clear my old ipod touch.  I went to General Settings and told it that I wanted to clear the ipod touch.  It went thru a few things and then it said to plug it into itunes.  I do not understand why?  On my itunes it does not list two ipod touch's on there as devices, so I am scared it I plug the new one into itunes it will clear both.  Please help!

    Yeah, what planb77 said.
Just connect your iPod to your computer, let iTunes come up, and then select Restore to Factory Settings.  This will clear off every thing and install the current version of iOS for that generation.  You can name the device and then set up iTunes to synch the items you choose.
If you have more than one computer, let hubby set up his own iTunes account and Apple ID so you don't get your stuff mixed up.

  • How can I get my Ipod Touch 2 replaced?

Recently, I found out that my Ipod Touch 2 has an accelerometer issue.
When I put it on a flat surface, it shows up there is 20 degree incline(I use an app named iHandy Level to find that). Yes, I can calibrate it, but when I did so, and turn it 180 degree, it shows up that 20 degree incline again. As a computer engineer myself, I know it's a hardware fault. And I notice some other Iphone/Ipod Touch user have the same issue and had their Iphone/Ipod Touch replaced.
I tried to find out how can I get it replaced at www.apple.com/support, but I didn't find anything helpful. Since I live in a small city, there is no apple retail store here. I need to drive 4 hours to reach the nearest one. And I bought it 6 months ago, so they don't provide complimentary phone support to me.
Is there any chance that I needn't to drive so far to get my Ipod Touch replaced?
Since I am not a naticve English speaker, maybe there is some information helpful but I didn't find it?

    Hi,
I tried to send it back to apple to get a replacement TWICE!!!
    And get nothing...
    They said:
Our technicians have performed full diagnostic checks on your IPOD TOUCH (2ND GENERATION) and have been unable to reproduce the symptom(s) you reported when you requested the repair. As a result of our tests, we can confirm that your product meets Apple specifications for performance, usability, and functionality.
I feel really bad, especially the second time...
    Hate apple...
    I will try again...

  • Apple sent me a new iPod touch to replace the one that stopped working. The new one has the same problem as the old one. Should I send it back?

I bought an iPod touch 4th genertion in August 2013. About 3 weeks ago, iTunes told me an update was available for my iPod so I clicked update. It then said it had detected an iPod in recovery mode and I had to restore my iPod. I tried to restore it when another pop up appeared saying an unkown error occured and it was unable to restore my iPod. I talked to someone on the online help page and they said I needed to talk to someone on the phone because it was too complicated to explain. The first person I spoke to on the phone could not identify my problem so she got her supervisor who said I needed to send it in for repair. I sent it in and yesterday I received a brand new iPod in the mail with a letter saying they could not fix my old iPod and this was a replacement. I plugged the new iPod into my computer to restore it and everything was fine. It said my software was not up to date so I clicked update and the exact same thing happened with the new ipod. It told me to restore my iPod and then said it was unable to be restored. They replacement arrived yesterday. Should I send it back?

What is the exact wording of the error message? It may be that there is a problem with your computer and is causing the problem, not a problem with the iPod.

  • How to sync an iPod Touch after replacing the hard drive

    Hello,
The hard drive on my second MacBook Pro failed, so we had a new one fitted.
I recovered most of the data using Data Rescue, so I can grab the music files, photos, Pages files, etc.
However I can't get the User data from the damaged drive, nor any of the software programs and serial numbers so I'm effectively starting again with just the software that comes with a 'new' Mac.
The Apple ID on the iPod Touch is very similar to [email protected]
When I launched iTunes for the first time on the MacBook Pro I entered that email address, but it seemed like a new account was started (?).
I connected the iPod Touch to the MacBook Pro.
    The message I got was...
"The iPod "Toby's iPod Touch" is synced with another itUnes library. Do you want to erase this iPod and sync with this iTunes library?"
    I clicked Cancel.
What do I need to do to get iTunes to recognise this iPod Touch so it finds all the apps we bought for it?
I have a funny feeling that we are logged in as [email protected] in iTunes, but this isn't the same account as the Apple ID of [email protected] on the iPod Touch. Or have I misunderstood something?
Extra info: I think this computer was working with a User name of Chris Payne, but since it's had a new internal drive we've only set up an account called Toby Payne.
I'd appreciate your help! Thank you!

""The iPod "Toby's iPod Touch" is synced with another itUnes library. Do you want to erase this iPod and sync with this iTunes library?""
This is correct. There is no way around this. The ipod touch will sync with one and only one computer/library at a time. If you sync to another, it will indeed erase the current content and replace with the content from the new drive/library.
You can transfer itunes purchases ( including apps) from the ipod. Without syncing: File>Transfer Purchases

  • IPod Touch 3G replacement battery not living up to what was promised

I have had my iPod touch for almost 4 years. The battery started to run down (loose charge more quickly or just not charge up all the way) about 3 to 6 months ago. I took it in to the Apple shop and they gave me a replacement iPod touch 3G after I paid the battery replacement fee. This gave me a 90 warranty on the fix.
I took the new iPod touch home and charged it up and set it up as a new iPod Touch. No restore. After doing this, I used it for about 30 minutes reading a book. Then it gave me a "20% battery remaining" message. After 30 minutes. So I killed the book software and loaded the battery monitoring software. It showed that, sure enough, I only had 20% battery remaining. But, as I watched, it jumped up to 25%. And then up again to 35%. So I went to plug it into the computer to charge. When I did, it jumped up to 80% charged as soon as I plugged it in. I unlocked it and, on the batter monitoring app, it stated I had an 85% charge. So I charged it back to full then unplugged it again. This time I restarted it, hoping this was just some boot error. It did the same thing repeatedly over the next few days. It would give me a "battery 20% charge" warning, then jumping up to between 35% and 70% as I watched. Then back down to 20% again like some drunk metronome.
I took it back to the apple store and told them my problem. Realizing that this is an old iPod Touch model and future replacements would be similar if not worse, I offered to pay the rest of the money needed to just purchase an iPod Touch 4G. As in, take the original amount paid for the repair, as I had not gotten a battery replacement that worked, and add to that to make up the difference to purchase the newer one with a good, working battery.
This was refused. Instead I was given another iPod Touch 3G to take home. And, again, this one is doing the same thing as the first replacement I received. If I had not been there to see that there were, in fact, two different iPod Touches involved, I would have thought that it was the same one. This newest one has the same drunk metronome battery as the last "new" one.
I have been an Apple customer for many years now and the offer is still open to just pay the rest of the difference to upgrade to an iPod Touch 4. Because I don't want to and cannot play iPod Touch roulette via mail returns for the next month until I finally get one that has a working battery. That and the fact that it costs money for me to get to the nearest Apple store every time I go. So going any more would eat up any money saved on getting that original battery replacement back. But Apple would keep that money and it wouldn't have done what they said they would do. Which is, replace the battery with a working one.

It would have been difficult to take up the problem with the manager of the Apple store as I live in Japan and the manager is Japanese and doesn't speak English.
I did go through many discharge cycles, yes.
That may true and the percentage indicators used in battery information apps may not be reporting the correct percentage. However, when the iPod Touch itself is giving me the 20% battery life remaining warning and then going back up to almost 50% then back down to 20% and displaying a warning 4 times in 10 minutes for two separate iPod Touches, I don't think it is the percentage indicator's that could be wrong on two consecutive iPod Touches. Especially given that the original iPod touch I had, even with the failing battery it had inside of it, did not bounce around that much... Or at all.

  • Can I get an iPod touch battery replaced?

My iPod touch (4th gen) the second lastest... will not hold a charge. I just charged till it says its full and then around a half an hour later it died. I did not have wifi on and my brightness all the way down. I and I charged it over night.

  • How to sync new iPod Touch to replaced Hard Drive?

Okay, so I dropped my MB Pro and had to replace the hard drive... tragically, at the moment when my newest Time Machine backup is June 6 (long story, but I kept having the "Time Machine Drive is full" problem and never figured out how to get around it without buying lots of new drives).
So... here I am with a new drive that, after I go buy a Torx 6 screwdriver, I'll have to reload with a fresh install of 10.6... and then piece together with what files I could salvage from the damaged drive... but then I just realized I'll have another problem.
I have an iPad that I bought before the backup date, but which has changed content considerably since... and I have an iPod Touch that's only about two weeks old, but loaded with all my old songs, etc. and several new apps.
HOW do I sync up the iPad and iPod Touch to the computer once the new but "June 6" drive is up and running? Is there a way to have all the changes on the iPad and iPod added back to the Mac, rather than forcing those two units to also go back to my June 6 backup profile?

Google "Pod to Mac". It is available as both a freeware and paid software. It will copy the content of your iPod touch and most likely your iPad as well back to your Mac. Somethings, like photos, may not get copied back.
As another potential backup, try Carbon Copy Cloner. You can use it to clone your hard drive making a restore much easier.

  • Ipod touch 4gen replacement

I have a 2 and half year old ipod touch(4g 32gb) and its home button is stuck. So is it possible to replace it(not free of cost ofcourse)? If so with the same model or 16gb 5gen model?(coz i read that 16 gb 5gen model replaced this model).

  • IPod Touch 4G Replacements

I dropped my Ipod Touch 4g 8GB on the floor a couple months ago and the home button won't work and when I open apps such as Facebook, twitter etc it will either freeze or go back to the home screen and I was just wondering if I could get it replaced for free.
Would I be able to get it replaced at a retail store? How long would it take for it to be refurbished/replaced?
Will it be delivered to my house or will I be able to go in the store and get it?

Accidental damage like caused by dropping the iPod is not covered by the warranty and it voids the warranty on the entire iPod.

  • IPod touch 4g replacement fee

My power button is jammed for good and a few days later, I charged my iPod and it said "Charging is not supported with this accessory" so I went to Walmart and got a new USB cord, and when I came home to charge it, it said the exact same thing. So that is my iPod's fault, not because of the USB cord.... How much would it be to replace an iPod touch 4g 8 gigs?? PLEASE HELP thank you!

  • Ipod touch 4g replacement

ok well my ipod touch home button wont work and a friend of mine told me since i had a warrenty for 8 $ apple will send me a ipod touch 4g and when fedex gets here i give them mine is this true ????

Apple will send you an empty box, you'll ship the iPod to them, and they'll diagnose it and if it turns out to be a hardware problem will send you a replacement. They will not send you an iPod in advance of the return of yours (that only applies to the iPhone, when the user pays for advance replacement service). For full details, see:

If you take your iPod to an Apple Store, they'll replace it on the spot should it qualify for replacement.

  • IPod Touch: Product Replacement Pending (UK)

I had to send my iPod Touch 3rd Gen in for replacement, and it arrived and was 'issue detected' on Friday (20th). Now it's on 'Product Replacement Pending', and I was wondering how long it would take for my new iPod to arrive, and also, whether or not it might get sent out today, even though it's a Sunday. I'm just worrying because my sister had to get her nano replaced, and it took over a month for a simple battery problem. Any help is greatly appreciated!

  • IPod Touch 5th Screen Question...

Hi I just replaced my screen on my ipod touch 5th gen and i connect all the ribbon chords and every thing and when i connect one of the ribbons from the screen to the motherboard the motherboard starts to get hot! The screen isnt actually fully on, I wanted to make sure it turned on before I snapped it back in place. Any ideas? When I disconnect the ribbon the temp goes down. Screen is an OEM screen from Apple.
