Ipod Touch 4g unable to join wifi network

We have a new Ipod touch 4g. We have a wifi router in our home. We have to other ipod touches and two iphone that log on with no trouble. I have updated the firmware software on the router and updated and restored the ipod. What else can I try?

The problem could be caused by a firewall in the router.  For reasons that I do not understand, that will affect IOS (iPod/iPad) communication but will not affect computers or other devices.
You will need administrative access to the router.  If a firewall is present, turn it off and test the iPod again.  If it works, turn the firewall back on but weaken it a notch and test the iPod again.  Repeat as required.
Edit...
Two other IOS devices are functioning properly.  This solution is not valid.  Sorry.

  • IPod Touch "is unable" to join my network.

It worked fine for several weeks after I bought the new router (Medialink). Then suddenly one afternoon it lost contact (worked fine that morning). My Macbook, Apple TV and even Android phone connect just fine. But the iTouch won't even give me the option of putting in the password. If I try one of my neighbors' networks, I get the password prompt, but with my own network, I don't even get that. I tried restoring it, but that didn't help.
I see someone else a couple years ago had a similar problem, but there weren't any replies to his/her question. Hopefully that won't happen this time. I'm really stumped.

  • 8gb 4th generation ipod touch is unable to join network

This started a couple days ago after I unplugged and re-plugged my router. The internet works fine on the computer, and on everyone else's phone in the house, but not on my ipod touch. I've tried resetting the network settings (multiple times), and unplugging my router while waiting 30 seconds or so to plug it back in. I do not think it is a password issue because I've entered my correct password multiple times as well and I only receive the "Unable to join the network ____", even when I input the incorrect password so I could test it, it resulted in me getting the "unable to join network" notification again. I don't know what else I can do to fix this problem and I would really appreciate some help on this issue.

Does the iOS device connect to other networks? If yes that tends to indicate a problem with your network.
Does the iOS device see the network?

  • Unable to join WiFI network

Can anyone help? EDGE is working fine for me, but I want to go a bit faster when I an at Home and connect to my mac's airport. Do I have to have a airport base station to accomplish this? My IPhone is reconizing my mac, but I keep getting "unable to join the network 'myname's iMAC G5'". I am getting a strong signal (from the airport drop-down menu) and I have "use interference robustness" turned on, but still unable to connect. Any advice? Thanks

Allan is right, if your iMac G5 is sharing it's network connection, that is what the iphone is picking up.
If this is the case, on your iMac, try going into your system preferences > sharing and turn off internet sharing.
Then power off your iphone and power cycle your airport. Then turn your iphone back on and check to see if the iphone sees your airport network.
If it does not see your network, the airport might not be broadcasting the network name. This can be set up for security reasons.
Go into settings > wi-fi and choose other. This will allow you to put in the name and password of your network.

  • Can there be a hardware issue on the iPad that causes you to unable to join wifi networks or only if you are within 5 feet of routers?

I used to be able to connect my iPad to my house wifi network walking all over my house then one day it stopped.  When i tried to connect to my network I would get an message saying "Unable to Join network".  I found that if i was within 5 feet of my router it would connect and work just fine.  At the same time I tried it at multiple other networks that I have before (girlfriends and other friends houses) and could not connect with same issue.  Only place I can connect is my work wifi.
Can connect to wifi with my iPhone with no issues
I have reset my network connections

  • IPod Touch will not connect to WiFi network

    Hi,
I am getting errors connecting to WiFi networks with my iPod Touch. This had affected a Touch I got a couple months ago. Initially, the WiFi worked perfectly on my WEP network and several others. Then, one day, I couldn't get any WiFi. After standard troubleshooting steps (forget network & re-enter, reset network settings, restart, restore iPod, etc.), it still wouldn't work. I returned the iPod and bought another. At first it also worked perfectly on any WiFi network I joined.
But now I'm affected by the same issue. This time, I went to the router settings and saw that the router (a Linksys) had assigned the iPod Touch an IP address. Yet, in the settings pane on th iPod Touch, the iPod had no IP address. I just ahead and reset all network settings, forget the network, reset the update and still nothing. And this was recently after updating to 1.1.2 firmware.
Given that this has now happened to iPod Touches, I'm concerned that it may be an issue that is affecting others. Any suggestions? The error I get in Safari is "Safari can't open the page because it can't find the server."

same problem!it connects to the linksys(not always, but miracles happen),and it can't load any page. it's really anoyingi. actually remember that the first day i bought it could've connect to linksys, but then my dad just helped me to acces our network and i didn'try to use it. but when i was in neighbourhood and wanted to open safari, it found me a link sys,but couldn't load anything. like nothing, even thou the signal was pretty strong...and i tried to do something like this in different places and buildings, the only place where i could actually connect is home with my network, that's it!
i don't want to return my ipod, but it really drives me to it..=/
is there anything that i can do?
    tnks.

  • Will a locked iPod touch connect to an unknown wifi network?

Lost an ipod touch a few days ago.  It does have a passcode and find my iphone is activated.  However I am wondering how it is supposed to even receive commands/messages through icloud if whoever finds it cant access the settings to set it up on a wifi network.  Will it automatically connect to unlocked wifi networks? Will something pop up on the lock screen enabling wifi access?

It will only join known networks.  Otherwise, you would need to manually join them or respond if you had "ask to join" enabled.  Either way, no it will not just connect to any unknown network, even if completely unsecured.
This is one of the limitations of any network dependent location service.
With the passcode on it at least your information is safe.

  • 1st Gen Ipod Touch can't see any WiFi networks?

My friend gave me his old Ipod Touch, and everything worked fine for a while. Recently though, the WiFi just cut out and I can't connect or see anything. When I open up the 'Connect to WiFi' menu, there are no options.. even though I know there is internet because my computer is connected. I have tried typing in the name of the networks and I get an error that reads 'This network was not found.'
I have tried reformatting it to factory specs three times through Itunes, and it still won't show up.
Anyone have any ideas? Is the wireless card/adapter dead?

  • Macbook air unable to join wifi network

I have a brand new MacBook Air and am new to Macs, but have a very good understanding of PCs. I constantly have to reenter our wireless security code for Wi-fi.  Now I am receiving a message that says "the computer was unable to join the wi-fi network you selected".  What am I doing wrong?

After a 30 minute phone call with Support, nothing worked still! In the end he suggested changing the channel of the wireless router/modem.  I tried to do this (after research online on my imac) and then lost all internet connection. The router/moden no longer worked at all!  Then had to call the support line for the router; spent another hour or so trying things, but to no avail. In the end have had to buy a new modern modem router (Belkin Dual band N+ PLAY N600 DB) and so far ......................it's working!  But we only bought it this morning. Will report back another day with an update!

  • Brand New 5th Gen iPod Touch Won't Connect to Wifi

I just got a brand new 5th gen iPod Touch and expected to have a fun night of playing with it, but instead I was trying to figure out why it won't connect to my network. Not a good introduction to a product.
Here is the related info and troubleshooting steps I've already tried:
    - It will not connect to my wifi network
    - The iPod Touch says "Unable to join the network [network name]" when I try to connect to my network (as opposed to "Could not find the network [network name]" when it is not the correct network name)
    - I was able to connect to a random unsecure network nearby
    - Of course I power cycled my router and modem to reset them
    - My wireless router does not broadcast its SSID; I made it broadcast it and it still didn't connect
    - My network is password protected. I tried changing the security type, as well as turning the password off altogether, but nothing worked
    - My wireless router is a Netgear WGT624 v3
    - Even though it's brand new, I tried resetting the iPod Touch and the network settings
Does anyone have any tips or solutions for this?
I wasn't able to find other people with this problem, at least not with solutions that I haven't tried. It's really frustrating not being able to connect to the internet with my new device.
I will point out that my Android phone connected to my wifi network on the first try with no problems.
    Thanks

    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
