Ipod touch 4g wifi connected, no internet

My new ipod touch 4g connects to my router, but, most of the time, no apps are able to access the internet (except for mail updating gmail consistently?). My ipod's wifi seemed to work fine at a couple of friends' houses over the course of a few hours, so I suspect a compatibility issue between my ipod and my router at home. Has anyone experienced similar issues? Any suggestions?
Here are some details:
netgear wgr614 v6 router
-most recent firmware
-wpa encryption
-using standard dhcp configuration
-works with laptop
-tried changing wifi channels
-tried power cycling router
-have not tried removing encryption, but this is a poor solution; I shouldn't need to sacrifice security.
ipod touch 4g
-current iOS version
-sees networks
-connects to networks okay
-seemed to work properly for a few hours each spent at two different friends' houses (each with different model routers)
-sometimes wifi works fine for a few minutes (a couple times longer? watched 15 minutes of a netflix movie (ended on purpose)), but more often:
-mail always seems to update (gmail)
-safari address bar turns about 5-10% blue, then times out
-facebook news feed will say "updating..." for a long time (until I quit the app) and not complete
-netflix app hangs at title screen, with the circular loading animation swirling indefinitely
-speedtest.net app shows a ping between 100-250ms (fine), download 4-10Mbps (fine), but sometimes upload at 0 Mbps (uhoh!)
-after further testing, problem still exists even when upload is normal (about .4 mbps)
-netstat app shows various tcp connections from multiple 192.168.1.* iPod IPs (this is okay, a result of renewing lease on wifi connection), not much helpful here
-app store will hang on "loading"
-throughout all of this, the wifi signal strength symbol is present in the upper status bar (where the battery indicator is) with 2 or 3 bars
-tried renewing wifi lease
-tried "forgetting" and reconnecting to wifi
-tried toggling airplane mode and wifi (radio power)
-tried reseting network settings
-tried reseting ipod
-tried power cycling ipod

You're right, the router is old, but it doesn't show any other signs of failure. It handles a wired desktop and ps3 as well as a wireless laptop with no trouble.

My daughter's new Ipod touch 4 will not connect to the internet.  It previously did but now Safari is saying it is not connected to the internet - although it is connected to the wifi network fine, and my older Ipod which is sitting right next to it is working without any problem.
    Any hints?

    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost

  • IPod Touch Home WiFi Connectivity Issue

    Hi,
I didn't know my Linksys WRT546 password when our new iPod Touch wanted it for Internet connectivity. I changed the Linksys password and now cannot get the "iTouch" to ask for the wireless router's password again after it finds the encrypted home network. I just get a screen wanting all types of IP connectivity info. Did we hit a wrong key? How can we get the iTouch to recognize the home network and ask for just the password to gain connectivity since it already recognizes the wireless network? Many thanks for suggestions.

yes... it is 3.1 Apple has had problems since 3.0 and are either unable or unwilling to fix the problem - and they are aware of it. Unless your device came from the factory with 3.0/3.1 do not expect it to work.
I can assure you Apple is aware of it and there isn't really anything to fix. FYI, new iPods still do not come with 3.1 firmware.
There was some super secret major change that older devices can't handle. You still have to go through the process of documenting things so the will give you a new one. I am doing that now. I had to force roll back from 3.0 to 2.x in order to get my wifi to work again and had to 'allow' the apple tech to force me to 3.1 and make notes on my account so when I got home tonight and it was HALF the capability and range as on 2.x - I can make ANOTHER trip back to the store to get a new device. Welcome to Apple, powered by the same work/design ethic that brought you Microsoft Vista.
Yes, another conspiracy has been hatched. All hardware evolves over time. There are always ongoing upgrades to any electronic device that is made in as high of numbers as iPhones/iPod touches are. Your WiFi has half the range? What about your router - what is it, when was it made, when was the last time you updated its firmware?
Please, this is not an opinion forum but a help forum. If you have something to add to help someone with an iPod touch problem, please do so.

  • Ipod Touch Won't Connect to Internet Since Using Airport Home Network

I searched the site, but can't find anything that helps (or that I can really understand). I previously had no problems with my Ipod Touch using my home internet via wi-fi. Ever since I upgraded to the newest airport, my ipod won't connect, and I've tried just about everything, but nothing works.
I also have an old PC Laptop that used to connect, but it won't connect to the internet either since I got the new airport.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

  • Ipod touch - won't connect to internet

alrighty. i have an ipod touch 4th gen. this morning it worked fine, it connected to my router, and i was able to access the internet and do everything i usually do. i disconnected my ipod from my router so my dad could run a speed test for me. when i went to re-connect, i ran into problems. i can access my network, and i have full signal, but i'm not getting to the internet. all the laptops in the house are fine, other ipods connect, just not mine. it's not a problem with the password or anything like that. i've reset my router, and i've reset network settings on my ipod. help???

It helps a little bit. I managed to bring up the information page for my router and I can see the IP address information and Subnet Mask info etc, but I have no idea what to put in the router box on the iPod or the DNS box. It lists DNS as being 0.0.0.0.0, surely this can't be right? I am so confused.

  • IPod Touch unable to connect to internet?

So I have an iPod Touch 3rd generation. It's all updated and I've had no problems with it until last night. My internet cut out for at least 20 minutes and was very touchy for another hour or two after that, but it eventually started working again and everything but my iPod was able to reconnect. The iPod is updated to the current version and I haven't needed or done any recent updates for this to be the issue. It was working completely fine until my internet cut out and now it just seems to not connect to any network at all. I've already tried forgetting network, turning it off and on again, resetting network settings and restarting my router. I've ran out of ideas. Is anyone else having this problem or have any ideas as to what the problem could be? Would be much appreciated!

Does the iOS device connect to other networks? If yes that tends to indicate a problem with your network.
Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • IPod touch will not connect to internet

This afternoon my iPod touch stopped connecting to Linksys.  It shows the wireless connection, and tries to connect.  All other devices in the house are connecting (including the Apple devices such as desktop and iPad).
I went into setting and did a general reset, and have also turned wi-fi on and off, and tried forgetting and re-starting the Linksys signal.  So far there has been no change.  Any ideas??
    Thanks!

  • IPod Touch apps wont connect to internet

I have had this problem for awhile and it's about time I ask for some help on how to fix it. I have an 8GB iPod Touch 2 Gen with Version 4.2.1 installed. My iPod works fantastic except for one error, the internet. Until about 5 minutes my internet on Safari would never load, applications that require internet would never load, and the app store would load randomly but I could never download an app. I fixed the Safari and AppStore problem by simply changing my WPA to WPA2 but the applications still do NOT load. I have one app called iFunny which is a photo sharing app and I am able to recieve the images being uploaded to the app but I am unable to sign in using a Facebook account on the same application. I tried an app called AppTrailers, it does not even load, but a similar app, AppNana, works perfectly fine.
I know this is a weird problem but I would like to find an answer and hopefully you guys can help me out.
Any ScreenShots needed can be provided.
Any additional information needed can also be provided.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I just had this problem today and did a quick fix. So here it is:
    1. settings > general > reset > reset all settings > reset all settings ( of course, why would you put cancel. lol)
    2. iPod should restart and enter in your info for the wireless network, and you should be able to get web pages on to the iPod now.
    Anymore questions?

  • IPOD touch won't connect to internet - like many others on this forum

I updated my IPOD the other day. Since then it won't connect to the internet. The wifi signal is still being shown, and my pc is using the wifi with no problems. There seems to be a few other people on this forum with exactly the same problem. I've done absolutely everything on the Support page to try to solve this problem, I've reset the Network settings at least twice. Can anyone help? Is there maybe a problem with the most recent Update? If so, what are Apple doing to sort it out? Thanks to anyone who can help.

    Some background might help:
    - What make/model router are you using?
    - Does your router have the latest firmware? (Check the manufacturer's support web page)
    - What security type are you using? (None, WEP, WPA, WPA2)
    - Does your router use DHCP?
    - Have you tried powering off and restarting the router?
If you are connected to the router but can't access the internet then the possibility exists that the DHCP service in your router is not giving you a local network IP address.
To check on this go to:
    *Settings > WiFi >* +your network name+
and press the ">" to the right to bring up the connection details.
Report all that you see. If the IP address starts with 169 then the router is not giving a local network IP address and you will not be able to access the internet.

  • Problems connecting powerbook to ipod touch through wifi

    Hi,
I searched for previous posts but couldn't find a solutuion. I have been using the high speed internet from my powerbook to connect to my iPod Touch through wifi to be able to use the internet on my ipod close to my computer.
I have been using the advise of "mrtotes" on another apple discussion. I copied the URL and the part of the discussion that I use.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1240824
"Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions,
OS X's IP firewall is probably blocking incoming Port 80 requests (i.e. web traffic).
Go to  menu > System Preferences... > Sharing > and under Services check "Web Sharing".
I assume you already have switched on Internet Sharing on the Internet section under Services on the Sharing pane and are "Sharing your connection from": "Built-in Ethernet". To computers using "Airport".
To secure the connection (recommended) go to  menu > System Preferences... > Sharing > Internet section. Click on "Airport Options..." and check "Enable encryption (using WEP)". Then enter a password twice. Users will need to enter this password to share your connection, although you should be aware even 128bit WEP isn't all that secure.
    cheers
    mrtotes"
I have been using these instructions successfully to connect my ipod to my powerbook for several months but now it has stopped working. When I get to System preferences>sharing>interenet and I select "Share yur connection from: Built-in ethernet", the only opions I have for "To computers using:_______" are "Built-in Ethernet" and "buildt-in Firewire" nothing about airport. Also at the bottom of the sharing window the "Airport Options" is greyed out and I can't select it. So I went to system preferences>network and my airport is listed but "Airport is currently off" So I click "Connect..." and the "Internet connect" window opens to the "airport" tab. "Airport Power: Off" and everything is greyed out so I can't select anything. And at the bottom of the window. "Status: No Airport Hardware found". So I went to the system profiler clicked on "network" on the left hand side, then clicked on "Airport" at the top right under "active services" and then looked a the information on the lower right side of the window:
    AirPort:
    Type: AirPort
    Hardware: AirPort
    BSD Device Name: en1
    IPv4:
    Configuration Method: DHCP
    IPv6:
    Configuration Method: Automatic
    Proxies:
    Proxy Configuration Method: Manual
    ExcludeSimpleHostnames: 0
    FTP Passive Mode: Yes
    Auto Discovery Enabled: No
Strangely, If instead of clicking on "Network" on the left side, I open up the drop down list under "network" (i.e. Airport card, firewiall, locations, modems, volumes) and click on "airport Card", I'm told "no information found"
    Any solutions?

what do i do if my internet is wep and i need it to be wpa2 because my ipod touch 4th gen connects to the internet but when i click on safari or itunes it says safari cannot open the page because its not connected to the internet. i have contacted apple support and they said to change from wep to wpa2 but when i change it to wpa2 and type in password and connect on my laptop it says the saved setting on this computer for the network do not match the require ments of the network

My 2nd gen works fine with WPA2 and AES encryption.
You may need to go back and start over.  Reset the router back to factory defaults, log on as the admin, set up security, DHCP, and make sure the IP address pool has enough IP addresses to lease to ALL of the computers/devices that will connect to that the router.
