IPod touch 4G won't update, -43 error

My friend in Estonia has a 4G iPod touch.
iTunes is telling her an update is available.
She accepts, it backs up - then she gets a -43 error.
Any ideas?
Windows 7, iTunes 10.5.

Hey!!
After many failed attempts this is what worked for me:
Step 1. Right click on your phone in the left hand side bar and select Back Up
Step 2. Restore your phone and use the option where you restore and update
Step 3. When its done it will ask you to use the back up you previously completed
Hopefully this works for you!!!

  • IPod Touch 3 won't update apps

iPod Touch 3 won't update apps. When I respond to the notice of an available update, the icon dims and a "waiting" message appears under it. It will hang like that until I delete it and reinstall the new app. I had another problem that has been resolved when I tried to get more episodes of a podcast, I ended up with 11 of them in the queue that wouldn't ever finish. They too would just hang there. I had to delete them all and get them through iTunes. I don't know how to upgrade the apps from iTunes though. Why is this happening just since I upgraded to ios 5.0.1?

If We Update 2nd Gen Ipod Touch From 3.1.3 To Higher Level WilL It Slow my iPod  :/
    I suppose that's debatable.
My iPod does ocassionaly take a few seconds to carry out a command, but since it is such a powerful device, capable of so much, I'm prepared to wait two extra seconds.
(I have 2nd generation iPod Touch with iOS 4.2.1 on it.)
By the way, since your question has no connection to the one asked by the original poster, it would have been far wiser for you to create your own thread. That way, you are actually more likely to get responsess to your question.

  • Ipod touch 4g won't start after error 37

Well, thats it. I tried to update and got that error saying that my file(the one I usead to update) may be corrupted. But from then my Ipod touch won't respond.
I've tried to put it in DFU mode in the other mode, all sort of buttons combinations but nothing happens. It's not even recognized by the computer or iTunes. It's dead.
    Is there any solution?

  • IPod Touch bricked during iTunes update.  Error #14.

I was updating my iPod Touch via iTunes and it got about half way done when I got error #14. I have followed the troubleshooting steps to the best of my ability however there seems to be something slightly odd about the error that I encountered. When I turn my iPod on now (i.e. when I hold the power/sleep button down for a few seconds WITHOUT pressing the home button as well), I see the Apple logo for a few seconds then it goes straight to the image of a USB cord with an arrow going into the iTunes logo. My computer recognizes my iPod as an iPod and iTunes says "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore the iPod before it can be used with iTunes." I click "Okay".
Then I click "restore" since I have just been instructed to do so.
I click "Restore and Update" at the prompt.
The process makes it through the "Extracting Sofware" step, as well as the "Preparing iPod for restore" step at which point I get the Apple logo back on my iPod.
Then a progress bar appears on my iPod which corresponds to the progress bar on my computer (Windows XP, btw). It says "Restoring iPod software..." on my computer.
The progress bar gets to about 25% on my iPod before I get error 14.
At this point the iPod restarts itself. I see the Apple logo for a few seconds and from there straight to the image of the USB cable with the arrow going into the iTunes logo.
This iPod has never been Jailbroken or anything like that. I was attempting to update it because it wasn't connecting to my home's WiFi network, for God's knows what reason.
In conclusion, Apple's update broke $300 mp3 player. It's a 16 GB model and it's out of warranty so I'm put in the position of bringing it to Apple and paying them more money so that they might -possibly- fix the thing that they just broke.
Needless to say this has soured me on the company just a little bit.
If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate the help.
    Thanks,
    -Trevor

The exact same thing happened to me!! I was able to get the restore to work on another computer with itunes where I had not downloaded the 3.1.1 upgrade. I am at least back to 2.2.1 with nothing on my itouch. Which is better than what I had. At least it turns on now. From the looks of this board, it would seem 3.1.1 upgrade is not ready for prime time!!

  • IPod touch 4g won't update to iOS 5, ITunes always crashes?????

My iPod touch 4th gen will not update to iOS 5.  Whenever I connect it to my computer, it asks me to update to iOS 5. If I click okay, it backs up and them starts the update, but them iTunes crashes. If I click not to update, and sync it, it's fine. If I try to restore it, it also crashes after backing up. If I tell it not to update right after I connect my iPod, and update through the iPod summary it doesthe same thing. I have tried to update 15-20 since the update came out and it still hasn't worked. What do I do????????

  • IPod Touch/ iTouch won't update correctly to iOS 4.3.1

After syncing my iTouch, I attempted to update the software. After waiting, a message came up saying "Connection has been timed out", or something of that sort. I am currently on iOS ver. 4.2.1, and my iTouch is the 4th generation, aand have the latest version of iTunes. Any help?

    Hi mate,
I'm having exactly the same problem (I receive the same error msg as you). Have gone through the Apple help pages, run diagnostics (found no problems) and tried using a USB connection at the back of my computer as suggested, but I still can't update my iPod touch with the 4.3.1 software update. Really frustrating, as it's taking the fun off what should be a great product. Appreciate this doesn't help you but please do provide any updates, workarounds that work for you. Cheers

  • IPod Touch 3G won't update OS properly

The last two times I've tried to update my iPod Touch 3G to OS 4.3.4 and 4.3.5, iTunes has indicated that the download worked and the update started.  Over an hour later, iTunes still showed "Waiting on iPod" (or a similar message) and the iPod screen showed absolutely NO movement in the progress bar.  I finally held down the Power button unfil the iPod turned off, reconnected it and had to run a restore ... at which point the OS was updated with no problem whatsoever!!  Of course, the restore also wiped out all of my data, so I had to reinstall apps, music and photos.  Does anyone know what causes this and how to prevent it?  After two straight times, this is starting to get old.  My heartfelt thanks to anybody who can resolve this for me.

Things like that just seem to happens with no known reason.

  • My Ipod touch 3g won't update to ios 5, i get error code 3194, and i checked what that meant. It said i needed to update Itunes, and when i tried, it was already updated. My Ipod is running 4.3.5 HELP!

    Please Help!

iTunes only allows you to update to the latest iOS which is 5.0.1.
Disabling the computer's security software (firewall and antivirus) during the download and update usually resolves the problem.

    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - download on computer and sync
    - Restore from backup. See:

I got error because i didn't have this recovery program disc that was supposed to come with the purchase so it says, but it didn't and now my ipod touch 8gb won't connect with itunes anymore and is stuck on a screen displaying an itunes icon with a usb icon.

oke i'm not done with the whole thing, but i'm doing that right now. • My iPod Touch 4g keeps getting a 3194 error when updating to IOS5

I am running the 4.3.3 software on the iPod touch 4g. Tried updating and it download the update perfectly....but when I applied the update it gets to the extraction point but then says Error 3194 and trouble restoring iPod. I tried shift+restore to manually select the update to see if it would do anything but it didn't. I manually reset from the iPod twice and then tried updating...didn't work. I tried forcing it into DFU and then updating it...still nothing. I held the power+home button while it was on and it reset to the screen of the itunes logo and a cable....I tried updating then and still nothing. All of it keeps popping back to the Error 3194. Any help? Anyone else going through this? Is this a issue that is being dealt with since IOS5 just came out? Someone give me peace of mind LOL I waited 4 hours for this update to download since internet speeds are SO FAST here.

Just for the record, I searched the forums for posts like mine but didn't see any LOL now I seem to find a lot with similar issues.....seems to be just for iPods but I just saw an iPhone having issues....Our iPhone 4 updated fine, the iPad updated fine, but this iPod is having issues. But just throwing out that I am aware of others with similar posts but am keeping mine open to let others know they are not alone......
