Ipod touch (4th gen) not recognised by windows 7 computer!

Hello everyone
I have been unable to use itunes for a good while now because my computer will not recognise my ipod touch. My laptop makes a noise like it is configuring when I plug my ipod into it but then absolutely nothing happens. When I checked apple mobile support it was installed but when I go to device manager nothing appears. I have uninstalled itunes and reinstalled regularly and nothing solves the problem. I am completely out of solutions, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does the iPod work?
Does it charge?

  • Ipod Nano 4th Gen not recognised in Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Itunes and screen blank

    Hello,
I have a quite old (3-4 years old) iPod Nano 4th Gen.
The screen is blank, which means it needs charging. When I plug it into my laptop/computer then it doesn't show up which im assuming is because it needs charging.
When I plug it into my plug charger (plugged into a wall) nothing happens.
I think this is because the cables (I have 3- 2 computer USB cables and one plug charger cable) being too lose and not connecting to the iPhone fully.
I have looked at all the articles, I have done the R's, I have tried to restore it, I have pressed the clickwheel and centre button together and I have toggled the hold switch.
If anyone can help it would be appreciated! (And please save the "take it to apple support" etc... comments for if you can't think of anything else- not being rude but I know this)
    Thanks

Hey, I hear ya and can sympathize. I have the same
issue. The difference is that my computer can "see"
    my ipod but it refuses to show up in itunes itself;
therefore, I can't put anything on the ipod (from the
computer) and vice-versa. Apple support is clueless.
This is very frustrating to say the least. Itunes
keeps telling me that my ipod is synced to a
"different" computer, which isn't true. It's the
same computer. The difference is that when I first
got the 'pod and used it with this computer (and
everything worked fine), I was running XP. I
installed Vista and after that, all the problems
started. If I ever get this resolved, believe me,
    I'll post something here.
I'm guessing that somehow, itunes "sees" what
computer it's hooked to by "looking" at something in
the OS. Change the OS and it "thinks" it's seeing a
    "different" computer.
    Try reformatting it.

  • Ipod Touch 4th gen not recognised by itunes/windows/OSX

So having had my first post removed for one reason or another I will ask again:
Does ANYBODY have any idea at all what is causing this seemingly common error to occur? I have tried all the steps advised by troubleshooting/advisors and members of the public...
Is my only option gonna be to return the device to apple?
I only ask because several people have now complained about this and bar being directed to a certain support page no actual useful advice is being given?

  • IPod Touch 4th gen not recognized in iTunes, read below...

So I plug my iPod touch 4th gen into my Windows 8 laptop and I get the little Windows 8 has recognized that a USB device has been plugged in jingle.  But the iPod does not charge, is not recognized by iTunes, and is not recognized by File Explorer.  So all I really get is the jingle.  How do I fix this?  I just downloaded the latest iTunes (11.1.1).  Thanks for your help!

I was having the same problem,  finally figured it out.  I am a W8 user.  Went to control panel, device  manager, and expanded portable devices. I happened to have my iPhone  plugged in to a USB port, and it showed up.  Clicked on the iPhone,  clicked on the driver tab, and updated the driver.  Now it connects to  iTunes.

So  apparently the driver in my iPhone 4 was the problem.  The TS1538  article did not address this issue.  I still think it has something to  do with the iTunes 11.1.1.11 update, because my phone and my wife's  iPhone 4s worked before the update and didn't after the update.  My  guess is this is the problem many are having right now.

  • TS2771 Why does my ipod touch 4th gen not have any sound when on dock?

My daughter's ipod touch 4th gen did work on a dock and no longer does. I have read a number of pieces of advice - download an update of iTunes, reset to original settings, neither seems to have helped. As it is less than 12 months old, do you think I return this as it is still under warranty? She got a dock for Christmas and is VERY disappointed that her iPod does not work on it, even though her old CHinese copy of an ipod (1st) will work on the dock. HELP!

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Inspect the dock connector for bend or missing contacts, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.

    Hi all,
I recently misplaced my iPod Touch 4th Gen, I have done this before and have successfully used find my iPhone to locate it. However, there appears to have been some sort of update, and Apple will no longer allow me access to iCloud unless I set it up on a OSX or IOS device, which, has been lost. (I do not have a MAC).
Does anyone know of anyway that I can still use iCloud?
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • IPod touch 4th gen not connecting to anything

I got an iPod touch 4th generation for my birthday yesterday, it was charging and working fine until a few hours ago, my computer and iTunes can't find it, the whole adapter doesn't work basically, I even tried connecting it to my adapter and it still didn't work. All of this has seemed to occur after I updated my iPod to iOS 6.1.3, if anyone can help me with my problem it will be much appreciated.

    Have you tried a reset?

  • Problems solved: Ipod touch 4th gen not recognized in itunes on windows 8 laptop

    Hi everyone,
Since the latest update of itunes I have been having trouble trying to sync my ipod touch 16gb (4th gen) with my laptop which I recently updated to windows 8.1. For a week now I been hitting my head for updating both my laptop and the itunes as I can no longer sync with my laptop, and I didn't even know where to begin to solve this problem.
I tried following all the instructions on the website to try and fix my problem so I got really frustrated and decided to delete all the apple softwares on my laptop. I decided to give it another try and download itunes over fresh and would you believe it... IT WORKED! Now my iPod is syncing again.
So, guys if your still having this problem, then follow these steps
    1. Access control panel on laptop
    2. Click on programs > Uninstal programs
    3. Click on the following (5) applications and uninstall:
    Apple application support - Uninstall
Apple mobile decive support - Uninstall
    Apple software update - uninstall
    Bonjour - uninstall
    itunes - intall
    5. Then access itunes and download itunes again and install
It should work when you connect your ipod via cable.
    Hope this helps
    All the best guys!

  • Ipod shuffle 2nd Gen- Not Recognised by Windows 8.1 Laptop

    Hi All,
I have HP Laptop with .... Windows 8.1 / 4gb RAM / Intel i3 / 64-bit, i am trying to connect my Ipod shuffle  (2nd gen) to laptop but its failed in Itunes (i got updated one) as well as in Windows..
at the same time, the same ipod i can connect and use at windows XP computer.
is anyone there to help me out.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards
    Rahul

Unfortunately, I use a Mac; I'm not a day-to-day Windows user...  When you connect your USB flash drive, it should appear as a device in a Windows view, like the one you provided as a screenshot.  When you connect your shuffle, if things are working normally, the shuffle should similarly appears as a device.  Whether it is recognized as an iPod or not, it should appear as a device.  If it does not, that means the USB (3.0) port (on your laptop) does not see that you have connected the shuffle.  If it does (appear in Windows), that's good news.  You may be able to trouble-shoot and fix the problem, using this document
iPod: Appears in Windows but not in iTunes - Apple Support
I suggested trying a self-powered USB 2.0 hub (if you have one), because the hub should be recognized as a device by Windows.  In the screenshot, it looks like there are two hubs already connected ("Generic USB Hub"), unless that is something internal that is identified as a "hub."  If a hub is older and works with the shuffle, then your laptop may be able to connect to the shuffle through the hub.
Here are two other things you can try.
    (1) You said the shuffle still works with your older PC.  Connect it to iTunes on that computer, and go to the shuffle's Settings screen (select shuffle in iTunes).  There is a checkbox for Enable disk use.  Check that box and Apply.  With this setting enabled, the shuffle acts like a USB flash drive (to Windows).  Maybe that will let Windows see it, and then iTunes will also see it (as an iPod).  NOTE:  When disk use is enabled, you need to Eject the iPod in iTunes before physically disconnecting it, because the iPod's disk is continuously mounted by the system.
    (2) If the above does not help, connect it to iTunes on the older PC, and do a Restore on the shuffle.  This will erase the iPod, reinstall its software, and set it to default settings.
Restoring iPod to factory settings - Apple Support
It's a long shot, but maybe there is some kind of odd data corruption on the shuffle's storage that is causing the laptop to not see it (even though the old PC can see it fine).  After doing the Restore on the older PC, connect it to the laptop.

  • Ipod touch 4th gen not synching?

When I tried to synch my ipod it told me that there were 3 apps I could not synch to my ipod because they werent compatible. I have used these apps forever and they just started this. The apps were ibooks, tumblr, and aviary photo editor. I think it said something about my ipod being out of date or something so looked to see what version my itunes and ipod were and I noticed that my ipod and my itunes were not up to the most current version but every time I clicked update it said it was up to date. So i went on the site and downloaded it from there and somehow finally got my ipod up to (6.1.5) and my itunes to (11.1.3). But it still kept saying the apps could not synch to my ipod and meanwhile new songs that I downloaded on my ipod werent synching wither. Si I said screw those apps all I care about are my new songs synching so I deleted those apps. But now those new songs still arent synching and Ive noticed if I delete an app on my itunes or on the ipod they are translating over which leads me to assume the apps arent synching so maybe nothing is synching. However when I watch it synch it seems to go through the 6 synching stages (wait for synch to start, prepare to synch, determining apps to synch, determining tracks to synch, waiting for changes to be applied, and sometimes it will say finishing synch). But no matter what my new songs wont go on there and then since I deleted ibooks it keeps telling me I cant read books on my ipod now, i really dont care about reading books but either way it gives me a message that i either cant read them anymore or the app isnt compatible. Can someone help me make my itouch synch correctly please?
Sorry for the super long explanation.
