IPod touch 4th Generation stuck in recovery mode after attempted update

I just want to save the stuff on there before I restore it. I know I'll need to restore at some point but is there any way I can back it up first?

There is no way to backup when the iPod is in recovery mode
Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

My computer is registering the ipod however itunes is not. Nothing ive tried has made it come up in itunes to let me restore. I've done the basics (i.e multiple computer restarts, switching USB ports, fresh install of itunes. I've checked the forums and everything I've found has involved things that I have been unable to do involving the itunes restore. Please save my ipod from a hammer.

    You can try 2 things:
Restart your iPod by - Holding the Power and Home buttons until you see the Apple logo.
Put your iPod in DFU and restore - Hold the Power and Home until the screen goes black, wait about 2 seconds, release the power button but keep holding the home for 15 seconds, then on iTunes, Restore and Update.

  • IPod Touch 3rd Generation stuck in recovery mode

My daughter got an iPod Touch 3rd Generation for Christmas which was on version 3.1.1. iTunes told us an update to 3.1.2 was available and would we like to update it, we selected yes. The update downloaded and then the iPod wouldn't restore and is stuck in recovery mode with the iTunes symbol and the USB on the screen and giving us an error message 1604. We have tried different ways to get it to restore but it wants to update it to 3.1.2 which apparently has a problem with it. How can we get it to restore back to 3.1.1?

I had the same problem yesterday. I tried restoring countless times, reinstalling iTunes... teh whole nine yards. I eventually called Apple, they didn't know what was wrong with it either.
Unfortunately, its the Touch, not iTunes... you are going to have to return it to where you bought it, and exchange it for a new one. Call Apple, and they will give you a number to give to the store. Alternately, you can go to an Apple store, if you bought it at a retailer (Best Buy, Walmart, ect.) and see what they can do.
    Best of luck! ~*~

  • IPod Touch 4th Gen stuck in recovery mode, no error message!

I have an iPod Touch stuck in recovery mode. It has a picture of a usb cord pointing to the iTunes symbol. When I plug it into a computer it says "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes." So i did. After it had finished it came up with that message again! Also I've tried using DFU mode and it didn't work. Suggestions?

    Maybe:
Restore loop (being prompted to restore again after a restore successfully completes)
Troubleshoot your USB connection. If the issue persists, out-of-date or incorrectly configured third-party security software may be causing this issue. Please follow Troubleshooting security software issues. .
Next try placing in DFU mode and then restoring.

Then try restoring on another computer.
Last, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • IPod Touch 4th gen stuck in reboot loop after attempting to update to iOS 6.1.5

    Hi.
I have my iPod Touch 4th Gen (iOS 6.1.3)....I plugged it into my computer, it said there was a software update available. I click ok, it goes through all of it's stuff, gets up to Verifying update with Apple, and then I get an error message.
"The iPod 'iPod Touch 4' could not be restored. It is not eligible for the requested build."
I know this has something to do with Apple not signing the package, but I got iOS 7.0.4 on my iPhone today and it worked fine.
Thanks for all of your guys' help,

  • IPod touch 4th generation stuck in recovery, black screen and failure notice "IPod couldn't be recovered due to an unkown failure (-1).

    Hi there,
I bought an IPod touch 3 weeks ago and it seems pretty stupid as I had so much trouble with it.
First all the music wasn't synchronized properly. Most of the songs have been stucked in the middle (although the time moved on properly) and jumped to different times. I restored and recovered everything twice and everytime I plugged my IPod in my computer it seemed to worked, but after synchronising the first time the second time my ITunes recognized the Ipod but I couldn't see the files or even synchronise again. I could finally download all new updates (for the IPod and the new Itunes) as requested. ITunes  reset the IPod but couldn't recover it properly. My Ipod has a black screen and nothing works. Apparently my Ipod is in a maintenance mode, but everytime I try to recover it (as requested) it works until I get the failure notice "unknown failure (-1), couldn't recover/restore. I spend the whole day checking the Internet for a solution and trying to update everything without success so I really appreciate an answer. I am travelling through central america right now and unfortunately there are no apple stores around.
    Thanks
    Daniela
P.S. Sorry, my failure notices are in german, so I tried to translate them and the situation as good as possible

See if you can get it into DFU mode and then restore.

  • IPod Touch 4th gen stuck in recovery mode

  • My iPod Touch 4g is stuck in Apple Mode after attempting to install the Siri GUI. What can I do to restore?

I have an 8GB, 4g iPod Touch. It has the lastest iOS on it (iOS 5). Yesterday I used Cydia to jailbreak it. I had no idea what I was doing but I followed step-by-step instuctions and it worked! Needless to say, I've messed up several times (while rebooting) and I am now a Pro!! Lol. Anyway, today, I was installing the Siri GUI software onto the iPod. It was a long and drawn out process and I'm assuming that I did it wrong. It was stuck in the black screen with the little (loading) loop. It sat there for about 30 minutes. Sometimes the loop would spin, sometimes it would just be there. Finally, I pushed the Home and Power buttons at the same time and I got the Apple Logo. And this is where I am stuck now.
I have tried a number of things, such as:
    * Holding down the power button and hoping that the "slide to power off" screen would come up. No response.
    * Holding down the Power AND Home buttons at the same time thinking the "connect to iTunes screen" would come up. The screen just goes black and then the Apple Logo comes back up.
    * I've tried connecting to iTunes but it doesn't recognize my device. My laptop doesn't even "ding" when I plug it in. I've tried changing the USB port that I have the cord plugged into. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes. I've restarted my computer. I've went through the Apple Support troubleshooter and dealt with the "third party conflicts".
I'm not sure what else to do here. I realize that I probably should not be downloading, jailbreaking and attempting to 'mod' my iPod- I don't even know what DFU mode, GUI or most of the other hi-tech words mean. I am just pretty good at following directions, lol.
    Can someone please help??
I'm using a Windows 7 OS on my laptop, not MAC.

I suggest try getting it back to your stock iOS and forget about jailbreaking.

  • IPhone stuck in recovery mode after attempted update.  Will not restore

I attempted to update my iPhone software to the latest, and then proceded to fail.  Now it will not restore, will not power on, and will not hard reset via the sleep/awake button and other.  I've had this phone less than a week and I'm already having issues.

If you are using a Windows based computer to restore the iPhone, it could be the security software or firewall preventing the restore process.

  • IPod Touch 2nd Generation stuck in recovery mode?

So I cleaned my iPod screen recently with just little water and a tissue. The screen then kept turning on and off, as if somebody was hitting the lock button repeatedly. I didn't take it seriously and I pushed the lock button myself to try and stop the spastic screen. I left it sitting on my desk for a while, when I come back, it was completely off and would not turn back on.
After time it got better and was able to show me the Apple logo for a couple seconds, then turn off by itself again. Then it was able to display the "Connect to iTunes" picture, so I did and iTunes recognizes it just fine, but the name is reset to "iPod". When I do the restore, it completes it fully and restarts. After it restarts it still shows me the recovery message on iTunes informing me I still can't use it until it is restored. This loop just continues. It's been about 24 hours so far.
Could it really be some sort of water damage? I've cleaned it off before and this never happened. Maybe I should put it in rice?
    Help would be tremendously appreciated.
