Ipod touch 4thGen going haywire... HELP?!

recently my 4th gen touch started having problems.....the first problem is that it randomly turns off, which is extremely annoying when i am out running or working out. And the second problem is that the battery indicator is going haywire, when i plug it in to charge, it was maybe about 20% in the beginning of the charge, when i come back to check 10mins later~it becomes full. or even worse sometimes, because these two problems would happen simultaneously...while charging at aprx 60% it would shut off and goes into "offline-charging" mode and it would become full or suddenly empty.. ahh too much to explain you guys get my point right? anyone care to help me out?

I would first do a Restart
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430
If that does not make the problem go away, do a Restore
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414
The Restore will erase the iPod, reinstall its software, and set it to default settings.
It's possible that the charging issue is separate from the turning off issue.  As a test, you should shut down (power off) your computer and disconnect all USB devices including hub, except for keyboard and mouse (if normally used).  If your computer is a laptop, connect its power adapter (so that it's not running on battery power).
Start up the computer, run iTunes, and connect the iPod to direct USB port on the computer.  This is to rule out USB device conflict and lack of available power on the USB bus.  See if charging is more reliable, with only the iPod connected.
You should also rule out a fautly (or unreliable) USB cable.  If possible, try a different USB docking cable.
The final possiblity is a hardware problem, related to the battery or charging.

  • Is the iPod Touch always going to backup?

Since updating to 2.0, iTunes wants to backup my iPod every time I connect. Is my iPod Touch always going to do a Backup during the sync process or is there a setting to adjust this?

    This is what I do.
I created a TextEdit file and stored it on my desktop, It is two lines (commands) separated by a return. You can copy the two commands from this message to your clipboard. The two commands are:
defaults write com.apple.iTunes DeviceBackupsDisabled -bool true
defaults write com.apple.iTunes DeviceBackupsDisabled -bool false
When used in the Mac OSX application Terminal, the first line is used to turn off backups. The second turns them back on.
Once you have the TextEdit file saved in the location that you want, do the following steps.
    1. Open your TextEdit file
    2. Highlight the command you want. Use only one. I triple click the text with my Logitech mouse.
    3. Select Edit>Copy
    4. Open the application Terminal
    5. Select Edit>Paste (Hit return if you don't get a new prompt.)
    6. Terminal does not confirm the result of the command. You just get the same prompt as before.
    7. Type exit. Terminal responds "Process Completed"
    8. Quit Terminal and TextEdit You are done and ready to sync.
This takes about thirty seconds compared to the backup which in my case takes hours.
    PLEASE NOTE
I use my Administrator account to do this. Never tried it with a Standard account.
If you choose to disable backups, any data saved in iPod touch applications will be lost if you have to do a restore.
I tested the no backup command a few minutes ago and it worked syncing my iTouch 1G to my iMac.
I posted this step by step incase you have never used Terminal. My apologies to the Unix geeks.
    Use at your own risk.

wifi and bluetooth hardware missing in my ipod touch could any one help me to fix it?

If the following is your problem try the troubleshooting described within:
iOS: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth settings grayed out or dim
Frequently it is due to  hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
If that is not your problem then we need more information about hur problem. How do you know the"hardware" is missing?

You can only use apps that are compatible with your dvice and ios version.
The secons gen ipod touch can only go to 4.2.1.
If you are running 4.2.1 then you can only use apps that require 4.2.1 or lower.

  • Can't use my Ipod touch.. going crazy!! Please help!

    Hey,
I was given an Ipod touch for Christmas but I cannot get it to work. (it is second hand but all date was removed.)
On the Ipod touch screen is a picture of the USB cable and the Itunes symble.
I have conected the ipod to the comuter via the USB cable but Itunes always says:
"This Ipod cannot be used as the required software is not installed. Run the itunes installer to remove itunes, then install itunes again."
I have have done this several times now and the message keeps popping up. I cannot find any help for this on the apple website.
It is driving me quite mad!!

For some reason the Apple Mobile Device Manager isn't working or isn't recognized.
First go into Add/Remove and make sure it was installed, security software can just whack the oddest stuff.
    Then read through this : file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Pamela/My%20Documents/iPod%20touch%20not%2 0recognized%20by%20iTunes.htm
and apply the section on restarting mobile services.

  • Hey Guys. Can you help me? My Ipod Touch 4thgen Can't open what should i do?

can someone help me to fix ipod touch. please.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • How to use imessage on ipod touch-messages going to email

My son has an ipod Touch current generation that we have updated with ios5 and I have new iphone 4s.  We are trying to get imessage to work so I can text him and he me on his ipod touch.  He can text me via imessage fine, but when I respond, it goes to his email, not into the imessage app.  it makes having a "conversation" a little challenging.  we each have apple ids that we are using, but I can't seem to figure out how to stop the messages from going to email vs. the imessage app.  thanks for any help.

Well, something might be wrong with my iPod. I added a contact to my iCal on the computer and check-marked the sync part in info. After I plugged my iPod to the computer it sure enough showed up on my iPod. However, when I try to add an event to my iPod it shows up twice for a split second with a red dot next to it then disappears. Can anyone suggest what might be wrong?

  • Ipod Touch Keeps Going Into Recovery Mode

Hi, I've had an Ipod touch for about 6 months now and haven't really had any problems with it to date. Recently (around the time I installed the 1.1.3 firmware), it seems to be randomly going into recovery mode.
When I plug it into my imac, Itunes says it detected an ipod in recovery mode, and I have to restore it. During the restore process the screen lights up with apple logo and spinning wheel, it says successful restore. But the ipod doesn't restart... just goes straight back into recovery mode. It usually takes about 2 or 3 restore attempts before it works properly. I resync and everything goes back to normal for a few uses. Then I go to turn it on and nothing... itunes just tells me to restore again.
Anyone else seen this issue before? I'm pretty sure the batteries aren't flat (since when it finally does restore, they usually start around half full... and I've tried leaving it on the charger for a few hours to no avail). And I only turn wifi on when I need it (usually turned off). I've tried pretty much everything I can find in the help files (hold button, hold+power, hold while connecting to itunes, nothing seems to wake it up... just black screen until a successful restore happens)...
    Thanks in advance...

I had the same problem with my Touch but it started the first day. It was also doing weird things like telling me the battery was full then half an hour later warn me there was only 10% left. It got better for a while but long syncs with iTunes usually threw it into restore mode again.
I finally brought it to the Apple store nearby and they were able to recreate the problem when they tried a sync on their machine. They told me it was a hardware issue and did an exchange right there. I have heard bringing it to an Apple Store will increase your chances of an exchange. Sending it in may or may not get you a new one. Good luck.

  • Is there any way to fix cameras in 4th generation iPod touches without going to Apple?

I just took my iPod touch's screen to get fixed by a third party because going to Apple would have been more expensive and would have taken longer; however, after getting the iPod back, I realized that neither the front nor back cameras work. I can apparently get the front one to work on FaceTime (I think?) and sometimes on SnapChat, but the back one is a lost cause in any app or any time I open the Camera option. Are there any sort of diagnostic tests or something that I can run to fix it? I have an appointment later this week with Apple but I would love to not have to pay more than I already have to fix this problem. Please help as soon as possible!!
    Quinn

I d not know of any troubleshooting.
What does the person who replaced the screen say? Could be a lost connection or broken ribbon cable.

Apple is likely not to help because someone else worked on the iPod.

  • Ipod touch and january update help.

    hi
i just reinstalled windows xp in my computer and i didnt back up the january updates from my itunes folder. when i synced my ipod after the reinstall it said i had to restore the ipod and after that the jan updates were gone.
someone at the apple store suggested going into itunes store and making sure i could see that i had purchased the jan updates and then scncing the ipod which i did...still didnt work.
can anyone help. the updates no longer exsist on my machine so i was hoping i could download them again without having to pay the $24.99 again or even waiting for the july 11 updates.
    help...please

If you didn't back up the "iPod touch App Pack 4A93.ipa" file before you reinstalled your OS, your apps are gone, for now. It's an iTunes Store purchase, just like any music/videos purchased, and if not backed up, it's gone if you lose/wipe your HDD.
Apple has removed the January Upgrade from the iTunes store, so spending the $19.99 to get it back is not even possible.
Your best bet at this point is to wait for the July Upgrade (coming July 11th).
    Hope this helps...

    Welcome to the discussions,
Make sure your ipod is charged using the adapter for at least 10 min and try to connect in recovery mode to restore: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
