IPod Touch 5.1.1 no longer sync'ing w/ iTunes 11.1.3(8). . . .Bad Battery ???

Three day ago my iPod began acting up in a major way.  The battery charging symbol within the battery indicator is no longer showing the iPod being charged when plug in to my MacBook Pro 5.1 via one of my two USB ports.  A new Apple iPod cable was purchased thinking it was a bad wire or pin not making the proper contact with this device.  The same conditions are happening with this new cable.  I have several other peripheral devices and those devices are working and are connecting to my MBP's USB port without any issues.  I have noticed for the past six months my iPod Touch 3rd Gen has been showing signs in needing longer charging times and seems to drain quicker than it used too.  The iPod for the past two nights have been charging for more than eight-hours each night and is sporadic as if it deciding "I'm I fully or 30% charged?" Although subtle, It seems to jump within the sliding battery scale when the device is powered off for a while.  Sometime showing 80% charged when used for a few hours to 30% charged when used for ten minutes.  My iPod is now over three-years old and I think it is time for a new battery!
But, in all honesty, not sync'ing with iTunes is it more than just have a new battery professionally installed? Or are there other electronical problems/components going bad with these devices?  What else can be wrong other than a new battery or will a new battery fix all what is mentioned above? Please be very honest and technical if needed, Thanks!

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one with a new battery for $79. They do not fix yours.

  • Help. I have an iPod touch 3 which will no longer sync properly with my iTunes library.  The iPod will sync a small proportion of the music in my library but not all of the checked songs.  Also the capacity keeps going from half full to completely full.

I have an iPod touch which no longer syncs normally.  It will let me have a small proportion of my music library even though I have 2000 songs checked.  Says its syncing but doesn't add the rest of my music.  It lets me have my podcasts but only let's me have one movie,  I appear to have only used half the capacity but if I check even one movie the capacity suddenly shoots up to full.  I have tried restoring, resetting and have  checked all my settings. I'm hoping someone out there has some ideas.

Yes I've done a reset but it made no difference.

  • No app store present on iPod Touch 4th gen and can't sync apps in iTunes, tried restoring/updating

I've tried everything I know to fix this problem with no luck so far, I'm hoping someone can help. Note that iTunes has been updated to the latest version (and my friend's computer is running Windows 7, if that helps at all).
My friend has an iPod Touch 4th generation. A while back he asked me to help him get apps onto the iPod, and I discovered that the App Store on the iPod itself was nowhere to be found, nor can he remember ever having one. In addition to this, he can't sync apps onto the iPod from within iTunes - the option to sync in the apps tab is greyed out. The music/movies/etc. sync just fine, however. At the time, his iPod had iOS 4.1.
After checking for parental restrictions in his iTunes and the iPod, I found that his iPod has a restrictions password set, which he doesn't know. His parents have no memory of setting restrictions and don't know the password, either.
I read online that the only way to remove the restrictions password is to restore the iPod, and since this seemed to be a good idea anyway due to the odd issue with iTunes refusing to sync apps, we restored the iPod and updated to iOS 5.1 today. Unfortunately, the App Store is still nowhere to be found, and we still can't sync apps in iTunes. The iPod still claims a restrictions password has been set as well.
I have checked and double-checked that no restrictions are set in iTunes preferences. My friend created a new iTunes account, so that shouldn't be the problem. While we're hoping to get both iTunes sync and the iPod App Store app working properly, right now he just wants to be able to get apps onto his iPod.
Does anyone have any ideas why his iPod didn't come with an App Store app, why it still doesn't have the Store after restoring, why iTunes won't sync apps, or why the restrictions password is still set after the restore? I've honestly run out of ideas as to how to fix this.
Before I posted this, I did a little more looking online about the restrictions password, which is apparently restored along with a backup. Neither of us were present during the restore (we had to leave for a couple of hours after the restore had been started), so I'm only asking this because I don't have his iPod or computer with me at the moment to test it myself - is there a way to manually cancel restoring from a backup during the process? If so, I need to restore the iPod a second time.
In the meantime, any ideas about my other three questions?
Thanks in advance for the help.
Edit: His iTunes account is authorized, by the way.

What exactly happmens when you try? Error message?

  • My ipod touch 4g ios 5 will not sync auto with itunes

I recently downloaded ios 5 to my ipod touch 4g but now it won't auto sync with itunes. I have tried every thing!!

After reading all the discussions I have decided the fault lies with the new ios 5 and until Apple comes up with a fix I will not resolve it. I also read in these discussions about problems with Audiobooks not showing up as audiobooks in itunes but as music. As an audiobook reader here is what I have discovered: I have an audible.com acct and so far I have noticed no change when I purchase and download a book from that site. The problem comes when I use Overdrive Media which uses DRM and WMA format. These show up in itunes but not in my ipod which means I can only listen to them on my pc or laptop.

  • IPod Touch no longer syncs wirelessly with iTunes

My 4th gen iPod Touch (IOS 5.1) has been syncing wirelessly with iTunes on my Mac for months without a problem.
Suddenly, the iPod no longer appears in the "Devices" area of iTunes, as it always has.
"Sync using wireless" is enabled in iTunes
iPod Touch is still connected to my wireless network, and has connectivity
Macbook is connected to my wireless network, and has connectivity (Macbook unibody OS X 10.7.3)
iPod Touch is plugged into an external Apple charger.
If I connect the iPod Touch to the Macbook, then disconnect the cable, the iPod immediately disappears from the "Devices" listing.
In the past it has always remained listed as a Device there.
I am now unable to sync wirelessly. Ideas?

    - Try resetting the iPod, nothing is lost.
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - And rebooting the computer

My itunes account was set up under an email account that has been deleted. I started a new i tunes account but have the same device as with the old account. How do i keep my music thats on my ipod touch from being deleted whin i sync it to itunes after purchasing new music?

I have the same problem (deleted email account). I think I mistakenly set up an account when I was buying an Apple product online, not realizing that it would be the same ID as my iTunes.
What is the way to actually contact Apple?
I have been clicking around in circles for hours! Will I have to pay them to resolve this? I don't have any products still have applecare . . .

I restored my ipod touch however the apps will not sync.  I tried to re-download but I changed my apple id as my old id is no longer a valid email address.  Any ideas out there please?

It might be logical to someone, but not to me. I agree it's a pain.
How did you change your Apple ID? Creating a new one is not what you want to do, but if you changed the ID associated with your purchases then that might have worked. You would need to sign in with the Apple ID on both your iPod Touch as well as in iTunes. I'm not sure how you changed it but clearly they need to match.
If it's just your password that is not getting recognized reset it here: http://iforgot.apple.com/
It will send an email confirmation to the email address associated with that Apple ID. The email address you elect to use might not look anything like your Apple ID. If you don't appear to get an email check your spam filter.

  • IPod touch 3G - activation required, will not sync properly, freezes up windows 7

    Hi,
I am having a lot of trouble with my iPod touch 3G.
I had not synced my iPhone 4 and my iPod touch for about a month as I was re-inputting my music into iTunes - I didn't want to sync them when not all the music I wanted would be synced onto them. Prior to syncing the devices, one day my iPod randomly displayed the "activation required" notification and the "connect to iTunes" screen. Neither my iPod nor my iPhone is jail broken, so this cannot be the cause of the deactivation. All I use my iPod for is plugging into my stereo system.
Regardless, I had finally managed to sort through all my music and had managed to sync my iPhone with no hitches. However, I ran into various issues with the iPod. A pop-up in iTunes said that it detect the device but could read it and that I would need to restore my iPod. So I did so (restored to the back-up). However, not even a third of the way into the restore everything just seemed to stop. My screen went black with only the mouse flickering. I restarted my computer and tried restoring it again (again to the back-up). It got further this time and actually managed to sync some songs (around 70 out of 850). However, a pop-up appeared saying that iTunes could not write from the song or disk. So I unplugged my iPod and plugged it back in and it immediately slowed down my computer. Chrome would not respond, Shockwave crashed, iTunes would not respond, etc.
Anyways, over the past couple days I have tried restoring the iPod (to factory settings) and that seems to have worked. I no longer have the constant "activation required" notification. iTunes seems to be having trouble syncing though. It will get a couple more songs synched and then display another pop-up saying that it could not write from the song files and then the synching process just gets stuck. The iPod no longer displays the synching icon, but iTunes remains stuck on "finishing sync".
(The problem cannot be with the songs as they sync perfectly fine to my iPhone).
On my iPod it shows all the songs which are/should be synched onto it. The synched songs appear in black (like normal) however, the majority of my songs are in a light grey and cannot be selected or played (basically it has the information about the song, but not the actual file itself). I can also use Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. They are both greyed-out and say "No Wi-Fi" or "Unavailable" respectively.
Just as a note, I am on Windows 7 and have McAfee Antivirus Plus. I know that some people have some issues due to the firewall but I unsure as to how this could be the cause when my iPhone syncs perfectly well under the same conditions. I have iTunes 10.7.0.21 and my iPod is running on 5.1.1. If you need any additional information please ask!
If someone could please help, I would be extremely grateful! I'm at my wits end.
    Thanks!

See if disabling the antivirus and firewall resolves the problem.

    Hi there,
This usually meas that iTunes can't find the original files. I would recommend taking a look at the article below for some tips on locating that lost media.
