Ipod touch 5 sound crackles and bad quality - how do I fix it?

When I plug my 5th gen iPod touch into speakers or headphones the sound quality is awful and it is crackles and there is lots of "noise". There must be something wrong with How can I fix this?

Do headphones sound OK?
Assuming the speaker sound OK when connected to another device:
- Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
- Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack or other hardware problem?.

  • IPod touch sounds dull and the bass skewed if louder

    Hi there,
I'm experiencing that the sound of my iPod touch is not good.
The usage of the equalizer is almost not possible because the bass sounds ugly.
Even without any eq-settings hearing a little bit louder introduces distortions to the music.
It seems that the amplifier is simply not making it.
I'm using Sennheiser in-ear plugs which work fine with all other mp3-players.
Tried different eq-settings, automatic volume controll on/off - no improvement.
    Same experiences anyone?
    regards,
    Greg

One thing to consider is that we're all listening to entirely different music, which makes all our opinions subjective. For example, listening to some recent music that is mastered incredibly loud (where the kick drum and other low elements are already harmonically distorted) comes through very loud on the Touch and distorts my car stereo speakers easily. Whearas older, "classic" music that was recorded and mastered in an earlier era will sound entirely different. keep in mind, many older classic recordings that haven't been remixed in the CD era were originally mastered for listening on LP records. A totally different experience than listening to an MP3-type file on a miniature computer with little earbuds or plugging into a car stereo AUX input. There are so many factors to consider, like the headphones you're using, the car stereo/speakers you're using, the music you're listening to, etc.
Personally, I find almost all the iPod's EQ settings make things sound much worse than leaving the EQ off, however I find the "classical" and "electronic" settings make a lot of classic pop/rock sound good to me, at least with ear buds. The "treble booster" sounds OK too.
I never use Apple's white earbuds; they sound really thick and midrangey to me. Anytime I get an iPod I leave them in the plastic forever. I'm using some earbuds that came with an earlier MP3 player of mine, a Rio Forge. They sound really good, considering their earbuds. You can't expect hi-fi from something like this, but I do like these.

  • My Ipod Touch 4G won't scroll. How do I fix it?

I just bought a refurbished 8GB 4G Ipod Touch and the screen won't scroll. I'm unable to change to the settings, which is really obnoxious because they are currently stuck on double tap selection and it says everything you highlight or click on. PLEASE HELP!!!

I hope that you've fixed your problem by now, but in case you haven't I thought I should reply. You or the previous user must have activated "VoiceOver" control which then requires you to use a whole new set of gestures for operations on the ipod. My niece just facetimed me sobbing frantically that she had broken her ipod because the exact same thing happened to her.
We found the answer on pp 119-122 of the ipod touch user guide pdf available on the Apple website.
Best of luck to you! L

  • Whenever I write a Artist name on iTunes, when I sync it to my iPod touch 5, the capitalization changes. How do I fix that?

Like if I typed HELLO as a artist, on my iPod it would show up as Hello. And deleting the songs on both my ipod and computer hasn't helped.

    - Try directly downloading/installing it on the iPod.  As long as yu are signed into the same iTunes account that originally purchased it you will not be charged again.
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at

  • The Home Button on my iPod Touch 5 isn't working. How do I fix it?

Hi!  The Home Button on my iPod 5 isn't working.  I just got it like maybe two months ago.  I'm really mad about it to because it's brand new!  I'm not to the point where I'm going to totally rip my iPod apart and fix it.  And I know about the Assistive Touch or Acsessive Touch whatever it's called.  I'm using it right now but it's just not the same!  Please help!

I would take it to an apple retail store and have them look at it. It should definitely be under warranty

    CAUTION
Before you restore the iPod make sure that your iTunes library has the version of apps that are presently installed on your iPod. Many apps have been update and the update apps are not compatible with the 2G iPod. I would do that by deleting the apps from your iTunes library and then transfer them to iTunes. See:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer

    iPod touch sound quality terrible

Try another set of earphones to rule out the earphones as being the cause.
    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.
