IPod touch 5G only recognized as camera in "My Computer", not recognized in iTunes

Hello all, I received a new iPod touch for Christmas and I cannot get it to be recognized under iTunes. It is only recognized as a camera under My Computer in Windows XP. I believe my problems began when I recently upgraded my iTunes from version 10.5.3 to version 10.7 (not ready for iTunes 11 yet) so I could sync my iPod touch with iOS 6. During the installation of iTunes 10.7, I ran into a problem with the drivers for burning CDs with iTunes being missing so I followed the steps in this article http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3299 by reinstalling iTunes and changing the registry settings beginning at Step 11. I solved that problem and now I have a problem with my iPod touch not being recognized by iTunes. Please help!
Also, if this helps, my old iPod 5th generation 30GB is still able to be recognized in iTunes. So what's going on with my iPod touch??

It will only ever be recognized as a camera in "My Computer" because that is what it is.
Install the latest version of iTunes and then try again.

  • HT1923 I had Windows 7 and Itunes recognized my Ipod Touch with no issues.  Now that I've upgraded to Windows 8 I can't get my Ipod Touch to be recognized by Itunes.  Any suggestions?

I can't seem to get my Ipod touch to be recognized by Itunes now that I'm using my new upgraded Windows 8 Pro.  Has anyone else experienced this problem and do you have a solution?
    Thanks.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Ipod touch doesn't recognized by itunes password

My ipod touch doesn't recognized my itunes password, so I am not able to purchase anything from the ipod touch, but I am able to do it through my computer.

Try going to Settings>Store and sign out and then sign back in.
This is assuming that your problem is that when you try to make a purchase the PW you enter at the prompt is said to be incorrect.

  • How do I get my IPod Touch to be recognized by ITunes

A few weeks ago I brought my Ipod Touch in to connect to ITunes to resynch (bring it up to date). It had been some time since I had done that even though the IPod was working just fine tethered to by 2012 VW Jetta by way of in-vehicle connection. When ITunes connected the IPOd basicaally stopped working and I have not been able to get it back on line. ITunes said it was an IPod in recovery mode when I first connected it so I let it go through the motions. Now when connected to my IMac the screen lights up and the Apple logo comes on for about 30 seconds, then the screen goes black again and the whole process starts again - Screen lights up, Apple logo comes on for 30 nseconds and then it goes black and starts again. The Itunes never again sees the IPod on the left hand side of the screen.
Any clues on what is going on and how to the solve the problems would be helpful. This is an IPod that would not upgrade beyond 5.? I know I purchase it several years ago, but the exact date escapes me.

  • IPod touch isn't recognized by iTunes

My iPod Touch 4th gen is exactly a year old. Today I tried to plug it into iTunes but it was not recognized. Not only was the iPod not connecting to iTunes, but it was not charging either. It is not the computer, I have tried both of my macs. It is not the cord, I have tried two different cables which don't work. I have tried both cables on my old iPod nano and they work fine. In addition the cables work when charging the iPod touch through a wall charger. I'm thinking the problem here is the iPod...? Please help me out!!!

    - Try resetting the iPOd,
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
    - Next try placing the iPod in recovery mode nd then restore vi iTunes.  Noe that if iTunes does not see the iPod the iPod will not work. For recovery mode:

  • My 3G iPod touch isn't recognized by iTunes.

I've reset the iPod, completely uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes, and did the same with the driver software. ITunes recognizes my 2G iPod touch but not my 3G. The driver software installed itself as a digital camera software instead of where it should be. I've tried everything I've been able to find and it still won't show up. I went through all of the troubleshooting stuff too.

If you have iTunes 11 and are using the same cable that works with the 2G iPod.
    - Try on another computer
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • How come my Ipod Touch will only charge when plugged into a computer and not a docking station or wall socket?

My IPhone works with both the charging USB cable as well as the wall socket and docking station.  Additionally, my IPod used to charge using both the wall socket plug in and the docking station.  My IPod will stay play music when plugged into the docking station, but won't charge.  Further, when I plug my IPod into my computer all it will do is charge and is not recognized by ITunes.  I have done both a soft and hard reset.

If the iPhone has no problem with the same cable then

  • My iPod touch isn't recognized by iTunes, but it is recognized by Windows.

I'm using Windows 8 and it worked okay for a while. I have uninstalled and re-installed iTunes without success.  It works fine on my other computer (desktop Windows 7). Thanks for any suggestions

Thanks for quick response. After I did the post I kept looking and stumbled upon the site you refer to. I tried a variety of things such as stoping and starting AMDS, re-installing iTunes etc. etc. Finally what I did was remove every vestige of  Apple software, restarting the computer and re-installing iTunes. I was very pleased with the result as not only does it now see my iPod but my library is totally intact including playlists, so no re-building required.

  • My Ipod Touch isn't recognized by Itunes or Windows. (using Vista) I have tried Apple's reinstall, it didn't work.

I have tried Apple's reinstall, it didn't work. There aren't any other devices in any USB port. Using the same USB connectorcable and port, my computer and iTunes will recognize my friends exact same model of iPod touch (4 gen). Any help? It is a new iPod, never before connected to any computer.

Yu can try placing the iPod in Recovery mode and then try restoring via iTunes. The problem is that if you can't restore your iPod may be bricked
Next would be to try DFU mode. this may also brick your iPod if it can't be restored.
