Ipod touch 5th gen backup error

i keep getting an error when i plug in my new ipod touch 5th gen. Itunes could not backup ipod because the ipod is disconnected. my ipod is not disconnected its connected. ive tried following some of the other posts and that didnt help. its only 2 weeks old.

Try rebooting the computer and resetting the iPod.

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Try another USB port
- Try another cable. Some users have reported defects with the cable that came with the Lightning cable that came with the iPod (and iPhone 5)

    B-rock, thanks for posting the above.  I actually have the same issue, running Windows XP and I don't have that backup location, \Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\.  When I go to Documents and Settings\(username)\ there's a AppData folder followed by:\LocalLow\DataMngr\ .
    I have the latest update, 5.0.1 and I have the iPod Touch 3rd gen.
    I have tried removing itunes and all that is associated with it then reinstalling and keep getting the same message.  I've reset my ipod thinking that would help but still, no backup.
    In iTunes, Edit, Preference, Device there are no backups.
    What am I doing wrong, can you help?

    Your friend may have placed the ipod next to an object that repeatedly pressed the screen.  Under certain circumstances this can lead to what appears to the iTouch to be failed attempts to access the system.  After repeated failed attempts, the Touch increases the waiting time required for the password and may ultimately lock in the way you describe.
    It's been a while since this was posted, but this might be informative to someone else who finds themself in a similar predicament.

    Try on another computer to help determine if you have a computer or iPod problem

    My daughter just got her iPod touch 5th gen 32GB (iOS 8.1.1) for x-mas and has had no problems connecting to our wifi until yesterday. It sees the wifi but when we ask to join, all of a sudden, it says "Incorrect Password for (wifi name)... " but i know it is correct.  I've tried to enter it dozens of times but no luck.  I've also asked other people to enter it but no luck there either.  All of our other devices can connect with no problem so I know its really not the password despite the message.  Our other daughter got an identical iPod touch at x-mas also and she hasn't had any problems connecting on her device.
    I have tried to reset the network settings twice now. I have also forgotten the network & tried to rejoin multiple times - no luck.  I've noticed none of the router or IP settings are showing on the device, even though that info does show on my iPhone 5s while its not connected.  It's like it see's the wifi but it's not receiving any info.
    Please help!

    I have an 'entertainment pack' in my Mini that allows me to connect my iPod Touch 5th gen to the car stereo (via USB & aux in cables) to both listen to it and scroll through my music through the stereo interface. I have had a few problems before with it not connecting but these usually resolved themselves within a day or so and I think were more to do with my lightning to 30 pin adapter than my actual iPod. However, since I installed the latest ios7 update a couple of days ago I cannot get it to work at all and keep getting a message saying 'this accessory is not supported' when I plug the iPod into my car. Any suggestions on how I can resolve this?

    Sometimes an iOS update breaks compatibility and you will have to wait for an update to either the car system or to the iPod

    I've had my iPod touch 5th gen since Christmas Eve and I haven't had any problems with it, but a few days ago it stopped playing videos and now - even though I have turned it off and back on and turned the wifi off and back on again - it still can't play videos off any site, Facebook, dailymotion, YouTube, nothing. But I can view webpages and get Internet connection just fine!!

    Having real issues with my iPod touch 5th gen touchscreen not responding when it's on charge. Parts of the screen go dead or need several taps etc. Tried removing case etc. made sure I'm using included charger and directly to the mains not on an extension. Is it faulty?

    The reason i asked this question is because i have been wondering this a lot ever since i got an exchange on this ipod (and ive only had it for a few weeks now) because my last ipod had a lot of problems. so after i restored my ipod with my computer/itunes, i downloaded apps that i wanted, and then when i went to the storage to see how much storage was left, it said 0 bytes. i was freaking out because i didnt know how that could be, i mean, cause like, that is impossible when i just 'purchased' it, that the space was full but i looked and all my pictures were on this ipod and i already put them on my computer so i dont need them anymore thats why i wanna reset it now so there is nothing on it so i can have more space for stuff to do and download on it.

    Hey Sierra, You can do just what you have stated. My question, what is your "other"? If it is over 1.5 GB you most likely have corrupt files. Doing a Restore to New, Factory restore should correct it. Just make sure you make a full backup of all information on your iPod to your computer before you restore, so you don't lose your stuff, contacts, videos, pictures, non-iTunes music, etc, use the cable and connect with your computer. Then, via cable, connect to your computer, run the Restore to new, don't use your backup. Treat this iPod as if it was your first one ever. When restore is done, set up and add what info you wish to install on this iPod. The music apps etc you purchased should be on your computer, if not you should be able to retrieve purchased apps and music from iTunes. Any music, videos, apps not purchased from iTunes will be lost to you if you do not save them to your computer or the cloud first. When your done, make a current Backup and you should good to go.     Well first you need to sync your iPhone 4 with your Mac/PC so that it will transfer all your music, apps, podcasts, etc. Then sync your iPod Touch and the media you selected during the sync should be there on your iPhone. If you have difficulty in transferring media from iPhone to your computer, try softwares like TransCopy. They will help in transferring data from your iphone to your computer. Dont forget to check that all the transferred data is in the iTunes media folder so that the iTunes can locate the files. Link to Transcopy software :

  • How can I unlock ipod touch 5th gen currently disabled and never sync'd with itunes

    Basic situation. Ipod touch 5th gen. Passcode forgotten and tried too many times such that ipod is disabled and requested to connect to iTunes.  Problem is that the ipod was never sync'd with iTunes so the connection fails.  I've only owned it for 9 months or so.  I know I can recover all my music through iTunes and my applications through the app store since all of my content was legally purchased.  The problem is that I need to also recover my contacts and pictures since this is the only place they exist.
    I have read about methods up to 4th generation where you can access a particular file on the device via computer and rename it to unlock the device. That would most likely allow me to then sync/backup via iTunes and recover my data.  Problem is that I can only access the DCIM folder via windows manager and it contains no data. Perhaps there is a way to access the device a different way?
    Is there a way with the 5th generation to either reset the lock (from disabled to locked with a 1 min wait for retry as an example) to allow me more opportunities to try other passcodes that I may have set (including mistypes etc) or to remove the passcode completely and let me set it to something I will write down this time?
    Please do not reply with the standard apple responses of 'sync with itunes' or 'factory reset' and no, I did not sync with the icloud either (I tried but it was unsuccessful for some reason).
    The answer doesn't even have to be a free one as I would be willing to pay for the solution if it were guaranteed to work.  Since apple seems to want to charge for any type of support, even to ask a question, I am relying on the community for help.  Thanks much.

    You have to place the iPod in Recovery mode as Apple says and erase the device. It is a security feature.

    If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone and use Remote Wipe to erase the contents of your device. If you have been using iCloud to back up, you may be able to restore the most recent backup to reset the passcode after the device has been erased.
    You can also wipe the iOS device by installing the FindMyiPhone app on another iOS device and using that app to wipe the device.
    There is not other way
