Ipod Touch 5th Gen Black Screen - device inop

My daughter has an Ipod Touch 5th generation she received fro christmas in 2013. Yesterday she came home from school to find the screen black and the device non-responsive. Pressing or hold the power or volume buttons gives us no result. One thing we noticed right away was that the home button appeared not to work. When pressing down and releasing there is no click or apparent movement in the button. I do not know if this is normal, but from my searching it appears not to be. When attached to the computer, Itunes does not recognize the device. It sees no device at all.  This Ipod stays in an Otterbox Defender case at all times.
My solution attempts:
1) Charge Ipod to ensure battery is not dead.
2) Attempting to clean the home button with isopropyl alchol. The ipod was held in an upright position the entire time to facilitate drainage and prevent the alcohol from getting under the screen.
3) Attach ipod to computer to see if Itunes found device.
4) Hard reset by holding power button and home button for over 10 seconds.
Questions:
1) Is home button supposed to click or move up and down?
2) Is the black screen/non-response related?
3) If 2 is correct, how do I go about fixing said button?
4) What is the warranty on these? I cannot give you more information other that Dec 2013 it was received by daughter and model number on back is A1421.
I have no idea what version of OS it has on it.

With the serial number you can check warranty coverage here.
https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do
Unless you purchased the optional AppleCare extended warranty the coverage is for one year.
Try this:
Turn on without Home/Power Button
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $99 for 16 GB 5G and $149 for the other 5Gs. They do not fix yours.

  • IPod touch 5th gen unlock screen GLITCH while music is playing

    Hello, everyone.
I am experiencing two, what I believe to be, very annoying software glitches on my 5th Gen iPod Touch 64 GB.
I know for certain that I am not the only one because I have read other articles in this forum with people going through the same thing. However, a solid solution ceases to exist and people don't really know how to explain the problem.
My device is running iOS 7.0.3 and iTunes 11.1.3
    Here are the issues:
When my music is playing and I have the screen locked and then I slide to unlock it, the song that is playing rewinds to the point where I locked the screen initially. It happens with every song. If I purposefully forward it to, let's say for example, 3 minutes into the song and I locked the screen 10 seconds into the song, when I unlock the screen, it'll automatically rewind to when I locked the screen (which was 10 seconds into the song). Annoying as ****.
The second glitch is less annoying, but annoying nonetheless. Let's say I skip to the next song after 3 minutes of the song I was just listening to and then I want to go back and hear that same song again from the beginning, it will start me off from when I skipped to the song which was 3 minutes into the song. Why the ****?
I refuse to believe that I am missing something because I checked and have tried a 'solution'. The only existing solution that I've managed to find was to restart the device and the 1st aforementioned glitch disappears... but reemerges later, AGAIN! Who really wants to be restarting their device over and over, let alone a NEW device that's supposed to be better?. Let's not get into the $400 I spent on it (taxes...).
On a serious note, someone please give me closure and tell me that Apple is aware of this and they intend on patching this up. It should be a little embarassing to them the my 4th Gen iPod Touch functions flawlessly- but why should I revert to it?
The forum I read here was from September 2013... we are in November. Do they know what is happening? They're Apple... I would assume that they do.
Any insight of any kind from anyone with intellectual prowess, please respond to this thread/plea
    Thanks, everyone!

I read everything in there. Did everything
    but still the same.
Im located in Philippines. I dont know how will I reach the apple stores?
    Just bought my ipod online

  • IPod Touch 5th Gen. Screen Problem?

I've been using iPodTouch 5th gen. for like one month or so
Recently I found out a problem.
When I activate "Music" App and play the song, lock screen and listen to music for few minutes, the problem occurs.
As I click the Wake/Sleep Button, the screen lights up but occasionally, at 4 edges of display, the color turns green for about 2secs??
FIrst I didn't know it was real, but I noticed this more than 20 times recently
does it happen to yours, too?

I have not seen that problem reported here before. You can try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    -  Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Ipod touch 5th gen 32g screen hardly responces, whats wrong?

I just got a brand new ipod touch and after about 20 minuts of using it I noticed the screen senitivity is very low and hardly responds to my touch. I took off my screen cover hoping that was the problem but it wasnt. I tried washing off my hands and wiped the screen down with a dry cloth but still hardly responds to my touch. Is it because its new? Please help!

My sister told me to do this. I live in Minnesota and it was delivered to my house in the cold. It was in a box and covered but do you think the screens not responding right away because of it? Its warmer now and starting to get better but not fully there.

  • My ipod touch 5th gen blacked out

Hi I have an iPod touch,
that while I was using it it would respond to the home button,
so I locked it and now it won't unlock it is realy frustrating because I just bought it.
It hasn't recently been acked up to I cloud so I will loose every thing.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Blue 32GB iPod Touch 5th Gen. Screen Distortion

When I am just tapping (like texting wise) the screen is fine. Now if I were to put a tiny tiny amount of pressure on the screen, the screen will distort (waves from left and right of the screen). The pressure applied is very small for this to happen. Am I being paranoid, or is my screen defective?

    - Maybe. The screen on the 5G iPod and iPhone 5 are different that the past since the digitizer is integral with the screen to make the screen and thus the device thinner.
    - I have not seen your observation posted before.
    - If you have an Apple store near by I would make an appointment at their Genius Bar.

    - Otherwise I would wait and see if others report same observation.

when i took the charger out of my ipod touch 5th gen , the screen went dark and wouldn't respond then it went black and wouldnt turn on. i thought maybe it was dead so i charged it for an hour but nothing came up on the screen it just stayed black. i tried restetting it but nothing comes up
when connected to the computer it doesnt recgonise the device and says 'power surge on hub' ? so i cant fix it that way its only 4 months old and i dont know what is worng with it. it was working fine yesterday until i took the charger out.

    Not Charge
    - See:

iPhone and iPod touch: Charging the battery
    - Try another cable. The cable for 5G iPod (lightning connector) seems to be more prone to failure than the older cable. The 'power surge on hub' error is common for a bad cable

  • Is there a (relatively simple) way to skip tracks with an iPod touch 5th gen using a physical button? I'm aware songs can be skipped on-screen without unlocking the iPod, but I'm looking for a method that doesn't require taking my eyes off the road.

Is there a (relatively simple) way to skip tracks with an iPod touch 5th gen using a physical button? I'm aware songs can be skipped on-screen without unlocking the iPod, but I'm looking for a method that doesn't require taking my eyes off the road while driving. For that reason, I'm also not interested in adding in headphones or additional devices that have the desired button functions. Going both forward and back would be great but I would be pleased just to have a "sight-free" way to go forward.
I've seen some mention here and there about ways to maybe change it so the volume buttons change tracks and holding the volume buttons changes the volume... but I don't know what's involved in that or if its even possible/recommended for a new 5th gen iPod. I think its a great device but its sadly lacking in music oriented functions and features... which is disappointing since music is why most people would bother getting one instead of some other "iDevice" :/

Given that you cannot do what you have asked for, perhaps you simply need to find another solution to your root problem.
Presumably, you want to skip to the next track because you don't want to hear the current one, and that is because...
    You don't like it.
You've heard it recently and don't want to hear it now.
Simply don't want to hear it at this time.
For problem number 1. Don't put it on the iPod in the first place. (I know, obvious answer!)
For problem number 2. How about playing from a Smart Playlist (initially created in your iTunes Library) which has only songs you've not played recently?
For problem number 3. Hhhmmm! Create alternative Playlists for use in the car.
As for going back to the start of the "now playing" track.... Well, if your Playlist has only songs that you really, really want to hear, then you'll be looking forward to that rather go back to the beginning of the current song.
I'm not trying to be prescriptive, just giving you food for thought.
(They are all cheaper options than buying a car which can control the iPod from the steering wheel.)

  • I have an Ipad and an Ipod Touch 5th gen both on the latest firmwares but they won't connect via bluetooth whenever I try even though both shows that the devices are discoverable. I need help!

I have an Ipad and an Ipod Touch 5th gen both on the latest firmwares but they won't connect via Bluetooth whenever I try even though both shows that the devices are discoverable. I also tried connecting them with my Bluetooth enabled laptop but it also didn't worked. Because of the Bluetooth not working I also can't enable airdrop.

    What model iPad?
What model computer and OS version>
    AirDrop requires:
    What you need
To share content with AirDrop, both people need one of these devices using iOS 7 or later, or a Mac with OS X Yosemite:
    iPhone 5 or later
    iPad (4th generation or later)
    iPad mini
    iPod touch (5th generation)
You also need to turn on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. If you want to share with your contacts, sign in to your iCloud account.
Learn more about using AirDrop to share with people using a Mac with Yosemite.
Use AirDrop to wirelessly share content - Apple Support
    System Requirements
To see if your Mac works with AirDrop, make sure you’re in the Finder by clicking the desktop (the background area of your screen), or by clicking the Finder icon in the Dock. Then, check to see if AirDrop is listed as an option in the Go menu. If you don't see AirDrop listed, your Mac doesn't support this feature.
In order to transfer files between a Mac and and an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch
your iOS device needs to include a lightning connector
your iOS device needs iOS 7 or later installed
your Mac needs to be a 2012 or later model with OS X Yosemite installed
Your Mac and iOS device both need bluetooth and Wi-Fi turned on. You do not have to be connected to a specific Wi-Fi network.
To transfer files between two Mac computers, you need the Mac models listed below with Wi-Fi turned on and OS X Lion or later installed.
MacBook Pro (Late 2008 or newer)*
MacBook Air (Late 2010 or newer)
    MacBook (Late 2008 or newer)*
    iMac (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Mini (Mid 2010 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2009 with AirPort Extreme card, or Mid 2010)
*The MacBook Pro (17-Inch Late 2008) and the white MacBook (Late 2008) do not support AirDrop.
For help identifying your Mac, choose About This Mac from the Apple menu. You can refer to the Apple Support website to find out if your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch includes a lightning connector.
Mac Basics: AirDrop lets you send files from your Mac to nearby Macs and iOS devices - Apple Support
Otherwise you need an app to pair via BT one iOS device to another iOS device. There may be apps that allow pairing with a Mac computer. The iOS devioces do not have the BT profiles necessary natively to pair with a computer or another iOS device except for AirDrop

  • IPod Touch 5th Gen iOS 6 Updates Screen is Blank (White)

The indicator verifies that I have 15 Updates but my iPod Touch 5th Gen w/ iOS 6 just started showing a blank white screen for the updates screen.
I've tried powering off and back on, resetting (pushing both buttons for 10 seconds), syncing, transferring purchases, and the wifi reset trick, but none of these things makes any difference to the issue.
I saw thousands of posts in various forums that this has been affecting people for over a year.  Someone must have found a fix by now that works.  This is a new problem to me, but chances are the real fix will work if someone can share it.  Any one know?  Thanks!

  • My iPod touch 5th gen went black and is not being recognized by my computer?

My iPod touch 5th gen was working perfectly fine about an hour ago i was taking pictures talking to my friends. I had it in my pocket for about 30 mins without using it and when I went to grab and check on it went completely back and I thought it was dead but I remembered it was charged more than half way.  When I got home  I plugged it in my computer and it doesn't appear on my computer what do I do?

Dang, if you had a Windows, I'd definitely be able to help you. Maybe try restarting your computer, & re-installing the Apple Mobile Device Support & iTunes under your "programs" on your computer settings. Idk if this helps because I have Windows not Mac :/ Best of luck.
