IPod Touch 5th Gen: Front Camera Broken?

Hi! Hope you're all having nice days!
I have a fifth generation iPod Touch. It's updated to iOS7, and even up to 7.1.1. But sometime shortly before iOS7 even came out, my front camera suddenly stopped working. I don't recall dropping the iPod before the incident or anything like that. But I was hoping someone here could help me.
I've had this problem for at least half a year now, and I've read through countless threads and ideas, and I've tried just about everything to fix my front camera, but nothing seems to work.
I've tried soft resets, resetting my whole iPod, installing other camera apps, pressing down where the wires might have disconnected, and even calling Apple support.
I read an idea about taking the iPod apart and reconnecting the wires that someone theorised might have split, but I'm not sure how that would have even happened with my iPod.
I'd really just like some idea of what to do before I try to dismantle my iPod and potentially damage it even further.
If it's any further clarification, the screen has no cracks, the front camera is not covered, and my iPod has not been jailbroken or anything like that.
Thank you so much, and hope you have a nice day.

Hello again.
Sorry to bump this topic, but upon seeing the staggering amount of views this question has received and the numerous other threads people have made in regards to this same issue, I was wondering if someone could tell me if Apple has developed any remedy to this frequent problem.
If the the only reply is still to take my out-of-warranty iPod to the Genius Bar and have them tell me to either pay for a new warranty or to purchase a new iPod/phone, please keep in mind that I am looking to repair my iPod. Not replace. Especially when this is a well-known problem of Apple products. Unfortunately, I have even heard of this problem in the 5C models, and that really makes the upgrade not worth it.
If there are any developments in a method to fix the problem at hand, please do help to inform the public.
Here's to hoping someone has good news and that everyone has/is having a very lovely holiday.
Thank you for your time and help.

do any of you think there's maybe something disconnected after a fall? or does it needs hardware replacement? the device is out of warranty so you think if i open it up i should find a way to fix it?

    Try:

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

  • IPod Touch 5th Gen 16GB Camera

My friend has the iPod Touch 5th Gen 16GB version with back camera and was purchased when it was released,
I want to buy the iPod Touch 5th Gen 16GB version and now it seems Apple has removed the back camera on the 16GB version, is there anywhere I can buy the 16GB version with back camera brand new?

The 5G iPod was originally introduced with 32 and 64 GB capacities. Both had front and back cameras. At that time a 16 GB 4G (poorer cameras and other things) was also released. This year a 1g GB 5G withour back camera was released. There was never a 1g GB 5G with both camera.

Ive had my ipod for at least 3-4 months now, and just today my front camera stopped working! I go to my camera app, (the built in one) and it defaults to the back camera. when I tap the little switch icon, I get a blurry, and sometimes black, screen. as if the shutter isnt opening. I have updated the ios software and shut down the ipod multiple times. I really dont want to reset the ipod because it will delete my apps.

  • I have numerous different apple products with the new lightening connector, all of which have broken or stopped working after just short periods of time, I have an iPhone 5C, and iPad mini and and iPod Touch 5th gen?

Hi, I have numerous different Apple products, an iphone 5c, iPad mini and iPod touch 5th gen.
I have had them all for only relatively short periods of time yet the lightning cable has stopped working on all of them?
On the touch, charging has stopped completely?
Is this a manufacturing issue with the new charging system?

Hi, yes I'm using the original apple cables.
This definitely isn't user error nor confined just to me, the devices are used by different people in the home.
On a quick sample around the office (survey of 7 people let me add) 4 of them said the cables had broken on them and had to be replaced.
Having also searched through the forums it appears this is a fairly widespread issue.
    It's defo not user error!

  • My friend's iPod touch 5th gen is locked somehow for 41 years and she does not have a backup. Is there a way to unlock the iPod without restoring it or loosing the pictures and videos from the camera roll?

My friend's iPod touch 5th gen is locked somehow for 41 years  and she does not have a backup. Is there a way to unlock the iPod without restoring it or loosing the pictures and videos from the camera roll, the applications can be redownloaded and she had no music. Is there any known bug about ipods locking on their own because no one seemed to have tried to bypass the 4 digit code and it is locked for 26 million minutes. So thank you if anyone has any information or help for us.

Your friend may have placed the ipod next to an object that repeatedly pressed the screen.  Under certain circumstances this can lead to what appears to the iTouch to be failed attempts to access the system.  After repeated failed attempts, the Touch increases the waiting time required for the password and may ultimately lock in the way you describe.
It's been a while since this was posted, but this might be informative to someone else who finds themself in a similar predicament.

So i've got an iPod Touch 5th Gen Pink 32GB, No Warranty and it was damaged not really badly, It has a Dent backing near camera, Screen not working but it opened when it drops. So what should i do? does Apple will give you a refurbished one or something? and how much will it cost in Australia?
PS: Its not mine My friend accidently drop the iPod

Accidential damage is not covered under warranty. Apple will still replace your iPod (with a refurbished one) but you will have to pay for it.

  • IPod Touch 5th Gen broken plastic frame

I broke the plastic frame that holds the glass/screen of iPod Touch 5th Gen while I was opening it, so where can I get a frame for replacing?

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $99 for 16 GB 5G and $149 for the other 5Gs. They do not fix yours.

Return it to the vendor and get your money back. Go buy a different model elsewhere or from the same vendor.

  • Problems after iOS 7.1.2 on Ipod Touch 5th Gen

At about 3 hours ago my Ipod Touch 5th Gen turned off on me. It came back on itself, so I accessed the lock screen correctly put my password in and thats where my problems started.
I put in the correct password it accepted it.
The screen then changed to my background screen colour.
Very quickly the screen went black and the apple logo came on (as if it was turning on)
I repeated the process again and I can not access my home screen or any of the apps. It repeats itself.
I've had all my apps crash on me ever since I downloaded the iOS 7.1.2 update.
On the lock screen I can still access the flash light and both cameras?
    What I have tried:
    Turning it on and off.
    Charging it.
    Plugging it into iTunes.
Reset where I hold the lock and home button.
    Nothing works.
Its a 32gb Ipod touch 5th gen with about 6gb of storaged unused.
I haven't dropped it or done anything unusual.
At the time it crashed I was playing on Farmville 2 app. This app crashes alot could it have something to do with it?
Please someone help me, I've googled it and can't find any problem like mine on here!
I've only had it 7 months.
    Thanks,
    Nadia

    Then do this:
Placing your device into recovery (DFU-Device Firmware Upgrade) mode:
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
       1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the
other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
       2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds
until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
                  * If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the
Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off,
release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
      3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the
device. The device should turn on. Note: If you see the battery charge warning,
let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some
charge, and then start with step 2 again.
      4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen.
When this screen appears you can release the Home button:
      5. If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
      6. Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
    Additional Information:
If you have a problem getting into recovery mode then try: RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode.
Note: When using recovery mode, you can only restore the device. All user content on the device will be erased, but if you had previously synced with iTunes on this computer, you can restore from a previous backup. See this article for more information.
