IPod touch 5th Gen Microphone Dead?

Hello,
We bought our 7-year old son a (PRODUCT) RED iPod touch, 5th gen for Christmas. About a week or two ago, the microphone quit picking up audio. So now he can't voice-to-text, use FaceTime or Siri or record audio in videos. I've checked and there's nowhere in iOS where you can mute the mic - that I know of anyway. He's been super careful with it and says he hasn't spilled any liquids in it or anything. When we plug in the earphones that have the volume +/- controls and mic on them, the device will pick up audio through that mic as it overrides the built-in mic. So thats proof there's something wrong with the built-in mic.
So Anyone else had this happen? If so did you find a way to fix it or did it have to be sent in for repair?

- Make sure the mic hole it clear and unobstructed. It is the hole on the back by the camera lens
- Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
- Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a hardware problem.

Hi,
I want to buy my boyfriend (and myself) an iPod touch 5th Gen as I am abroad and he's in the UK. I want it mainly for Facetime or Skype. Is there an inbuilt microphone or is an external headset needed? It seems that there is a microphone inbuilt (from what I've read) but this seems to make the iPhone a bit redundant, so I'm unsure.

Having real issues with my iPod touch 5th gen touchscreen not responding when it's on charge. Parts of the screen go dead or need several taps etc. Tried removing case etc. made sure I'm using included charger and directly to the mains not on an extension. Is it faulty?

My Ipod touch 5th Gen wont turn on or charge...

My week old Ipod touch 5th gen. wont turn on or charge. When it is connected to the computer or a charger it shows the dead battery symbol and never charges even if left connected for over and hour.

Try:

Brand-new iPod Touch 5th gen often freezes win7 while charging

Hi,
I've had a new iPod touch 5th gen for about two weeks now.
I also have a laptop that runs Win7, that has had no problems whatsoever until now, and that has no problems when the iPod isn't plugged in.
Here's what happens:
I plug in the iPod Touch to update files and recharge the battery
All goes well, iTunes sees iPod, battery's charging
Lalala
Bam! Some 15-30min later:
Laptop freezes over.
I have had to manually shut down the laptop more than a dozen times in a couple weeks now.
The iPod is killing the laptop dead. Slowly, but surely, it's happening.
I love my laptop. I NEED my laptop. I otherwise love the iPod too
This happens whether the iPod is ejected, but still charging, or not; whether iTunes is on or not
I unplug the iPod: nothing; laptop still dead.
Sometimes, it happens when I change songs, as I simultaneously listen to the iPod while it charges.
Other times, it happens while fiddling with playlists and tag infos in iTunes. (<-- I am particularly weary of this one, since, it seems to me, the iPod takes a few good seconds to access tag infos/change songs, much longer than, for instance, did my iPod Nano 5th gen, though, understandably, that one did not have an OS)
Other times, it just happens suddenly, with no apparent cause other than that the iPod is plugged in.
Could it be the cable? (any way to find that out without investing in a new cable? )
The iPod runs iOS 6.1.3; the laptop runs iTunes 11.0.5.5.
The laptop is equipped with a fairly new SSD, no HDD [does that matter?!]
Any help/ideas to get these two to get along would be greatly appreciated !! Thanks.

If yo mean the iPod freeze and does some things when charging. other users have experienced that problem. However. I have not seen a reply concerning the resolution.

My iPod touch 5th gen went black and is not being recognized by my computer?

My iPod touch 5th gen was working perfectly fine about an hour ago i was taking pictures talking to my friends. I had it in my pocket for about 30 mins without using it and when I went to grab and check on it went completely back and I thought it was dead but I remembered it was charged more than half way. When I got home I plugged it in my computer and it doesn't appear on my computer what do I do?

Dang, if you had a Windows, I'd definitely be able to help you. Maybe try restarting your computer, & re-installing the Apple Mobile Device Support & iTunes under your "programs" on your computer settings. Idk if this helps because I have Windows not Mac :/ Best of luck.

Ipod touch 5th gen, wont work?

when i took the charger out of my ipod touch 5th gen , the screen went dark and wouldn't respond then it went black and wouldnt turn on. i thought maybe it was dead so i charged it for an hour but nothing came up on the screen it just stayed black. i tried restetting it but nothing comes up
when connected to the computer it doesnt recgonise the device and says 'power surge on hub' ? so i cant fix it that way its only 4 months old and i dont know what is worng with it. it was working fine yesterday until i took the charger out.

IPod Touch (5th Gen) Battery Won't Hold Charge

After the last update my iPod Touch 5th Gen will not hold a charge. I haven't had any problems with it until this 8.1.1 update. Yesterday I charged the battery up to full charge and used it briefly to listen to music in my car however here it is the next day and the battery is dead again. It is NOT playing while not in my car. Meaning nothing should be running the battery down because it's not being used. I know it's not playing because the volume is set to half way so I'd undoubtedly hear it if it was playing. It just won't hold a charge and for no apparent reason. Any suggestions?

IPod Touch 5th gen no longer working with Mini stereo...

I have an 'entertainment pack' in my Mini that allows me to connect my iPod Touch 5th gen to the car stereo (via USB & aux in cables) to both listen to it and scroll through my music through the stereo interface. I have had a few problems before with it not connecting but these usually resolved themselves within a day or so and I think were more to do with my lightning to 30 pin adapter than my actual iPod. However, since I installed the latest ios7 update a couple of days ago I cannot get it to work at all and keep getting a message saying 'this accessory is not supported' when I plug the iPod into my car. Any suggestions on how I can resolve this?

Jabber Client on iPod Touch 5th Gen

I'm running the Cisco Jabber client on an iPod Touch 5th Gen and running into an issue with call notification coming across when the jabber app is in background mode. I get a repeating pulsing on the device and visual notification of a call being presented, but no audible ringtone. If you bring the app to the forefront, you get the audible ringtone. Any help is greatly appreciated.

What does Settings > Notification Center > Cisco Jabber show? It needs an alert style of Banners or Alerts.

My iPod touch 5th gen can't play videos?

I've had my iPod touch 5th gen since Christmas Eve and I haven't had any problems with it, but a few days ago it stopped playing videos and now - even though I have turned it off and back on and turned the wifi off and back on again - it still can't play videos off any site, Facebook, dailymotion, YouTube, nothing. But I can view webpages and get Internet connection just fine!!

The reason i asked this question is because i have been wondering this a lot ever since i got an exchange on this ipod (and ive only had it for a few weeks now) because my last ipod had a lot of problems. so after i restored my ipod with my computer/itunes, i downloaded apps that i wanted, and then when i went to the storage to see how much storage was left, it said 0 bytes. i was freaking out because i didnt know how that could be, i mean, cause like, that is impossible when i just 'purchased' it, that the space was full but i looked and all my pictures were on this ipod and i already put them on my computer so i dont need them anymore thats why i wanna reset it now so there is nothing on it so i can have more space for stuff to do and download on it.
it is updated to iOS 8 but that happened when i purchased it, so i didnt have a choice to update it even though i didnt want to update to iOS 8...

Hey Sierra, You can do just what you have stated. My question, what is your "other"? If it is over 1.5 GB you most likely have corrupt files. Doing a Restore to New, Factory restore should correct it. Just make sure you make a full backup of all information on your iPod to your computer before you restore, so you don't lose your stuff, contacts, videos, pictures, non-iTunes music, etc, use the cable and connect with your computer. Then, via cable, connect to your computer, run the Restore to new, don't use your backup. Treat this iPod as if it was your first one ever. When restore is done, set up and add what info you wish to install on this iPod. The music apps etc you purchased should be on your computer, if not you should be able to retrieve purchased apps and music from iTunes. Any music, videos, apps not purchased from iTunes will be lost to you if you do not save them to your computer or the cloud first. When your done, make a current Backup and you should good to go. To be honest, the newest version of itunes is hard to use and not as user friendly in my opinion - or i may not know how to use it yet. Anyways, i tried to backup my iphone to itunes and then restore my new ipod from the backup of the iphone 4, but it only backed up phoyos, contacts, and two other things (games was not one of them). Then when I restored my ipod, that is all that downloaded onto the ipod as well. I would really appreciate if someone would be able to provide me with detailed instructions as to how to be able to download everything from my iphone 4 to my ipod touch 5th generation. Well first you need to sync your iPhone 4 with your Mac/PC so that it will transfer all your music, apps, podcasts, etc. Then sync your iPod Touch and the media you selected during the sync should be there on your iPhone. If you have difficulty in transferring media from iPhone to your computer, try softwares like TransCopy. They will help in transferring data from your iphone to your computer.
