IPod touch 5th generation stuck on headphone mode.

Last night I dropped my iPod touch 5th generation in a hot tub. I quickly got out and dried it off. I thought it was fine but, this morning I noticed that even when the headphones weren't plugged in it was on headphone mode. It wouldn't play music of sound. What do I do?

Hey Rissa4700, You dried off the outside, but your problem is the water on the inside of your iPod, causing shorts. If not to late, but you have been trying to use while it is still wet, attempt to dry your iPod out. Leave it off, do not use or attempt to charge. Place it in a bag of uncooked rice for 7 days, change the rice every couple of days. After drying, attempt to turn on, you may need to charge for 30 minutes. If your iPod does not turn on, attempt to Reset, by pressing and holding the power and home buttons together until the Apple logo appears, (about 10 seconds) then release both buttons. May need to repeat this step. If that does not work try connecting with your computer and Restore from Backup, if no joy, Restore to New. Last resort, try DFU recovery mode if all else fails. If your iPod still will not work, contact Apple about an out of warranty replacement, this will cost you money, but it's cheaper than new.
If you get the iPod to turn on, try the speaker and headphones, do you get sound? If all works as it should, the first thing you want to do is make a full set of backups of all the stuff on this iPod to your computer. The funny thing about water damage is it may work just fine, and it may quit without warning, you never know. If the sound only works when headphones are plugged in, the switch inside the headphone port may be stuck open. Try quickly plugging / unplugging the headphone jack about 12 times to free the switch. May have to repeat this step. And just be clear after you do all this your iPod may never work again. Good luck. Cheers.

  • My Ipod touch 5th generation stuck in headphone mode

My ipod touch 5th gen is stuck in headphone mode and it is showing "headphones" on the volume bar though i have disconnected it.The sounds of songs and apps are,nt working in the external speaker whereas only ringtones are working.
PLEASE HELP REGARDING THIS. THANK YOU.

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.

  • Ipod Touch 5th gen stuck in restore mode

My Ipod Touch 5th gen stuck in restore loop i keep clicking restore and i just keeps downloading the ipod software update, and i wont restore it just keeps saying that a ipod was found in restore mode..... Can someone please help

The same thing happened to me, while restoring my iPod Touch Generation 5.  I don't know if you are still caught in the same loop but this worked for me.  I am using a MacBook Air running Mountain Lion version 10.8.2.  iTunes is at version 11.0.
After running through the published Restore procedure without any success I found the Software Update file had downloaded as:
    "/Users/my_home_directory/Library/iTunes/iPod Software Updates/iPod5,1_6.0.1_10A523_Restore.ipsw"
The ~/Library directory is invisible on my machine, more than likely a design standard.  I used a terminal to first locate the file and then to copy the file to a readable location, my Desktop.
My iPod was still stuck in Recovery Mode so I plugged it in.  iTunes was already running and identified the Recovery Mode iPod, prompting me to Restore it.  I clicked OK.
I held the option key while clicking Restore.  This opened a navitation window that enabled me to select the Software Update .ipsw file I had copied to my Desktop.  The Restore process then ran without any failure and the iPod is now running again.
This is not a formal solution as far as I can tell, nor have I verified the procedure across multiple iPods, multiple scenarios, etc.  I just wanted to share it as an "at-your-own-risk" alternative you might want to try.
    Good luck, cupcakequeen83.

  • IPod Nano 5th Generation Stuck in Recovery Mode even after Restore.

    Hello,
I have an iPod Nano 5th generation (model number A1320) that I would like to completly restore to working condition.
Currently it is stuck in "recovery mode".
I have followed the steps given by Apple here on a Microsoft Windows system with the latest Apple iTunes software but after step 9 I am back to "recovery" mode where I am given the option of performing the restore process all over again.
How can I restore this iPod Nano?
    Thank you.

  • IPod Touch 3rd Generation stuck in recovery mode

My daughter got an iPod Touch 3rd Generation for Christmas which was on version 3.1.1. iTunes told us an update to 3.1.2 was available and would we like to update it, we selected yes. The update downloaded and then the iPod wouldn't restore and is stuck in recovery mode with the iTunes symbol and the USB on the screen and giving us an error message 1604. We have tried different ways to get it to restore but it wants to update it to 3.1.2 which apparently has a problem with it. How can we get it to restore back to 3.1.1?

I had the same problem yesterday. I tried restoring countless times, reinstalling iTunes... teh whole nine yards. I eventually called Apple, they didn't know what was wrong with it either.
Unfortunately, its the Touch, not iTunes... you are going to have to return it to where you bought it, and exchange it for a new one. Call Apple, and they will give you a number to give to the store. Alternately, you can go to an Apple store, if you bought it at a retailer (Best Buy, Walmart, ect.) and see what they can do.
    Best of luck! ~*~

  • IPod Touch 5th Gen stuck in recovery mode loop and unable to restore

    Hello,
I attempted to download and update my iPod to IOS 8 wirelessly on the release date Sept. 17.  After a few hours of downloading, I plugged my iPod into its charger to allow for the installation to complete.  I went out for a few hours that evening and returned to find my iPod touch with the recovery mode image (cord hooking up to iTunes).  At first i tried to kick it out of recovery mode by using some 3rd party applications.  Every time that happened, it would reset my iPod only to return to the previous image (cord hooking up to iTunes).  After this, I gave up trying to just kick it out of recovery mode and just restore it using iTunes.  For the last 3 days, I have continuously  attempted to restore my iPod but i am never able to successfully download the software.  I have received multiple errors regarding "failure to connect to update serves" or "session has timed out".  Most of the time,I ca't even get to the Terms and Agreements popup.  The window simply says "attempting to connect to update server."  In the extremely rare case that I get passed the terms and agreements pop up and begin the download,  the approximate wait time always exceeds 80 hours, and then an error is detected shortly after stating the  "failure to connect to update serves" and "session has timed out" errors.
I would simply like to be able to restore my device and make it usable so it is not a metal and glass "brick".  Any help in this matter is much appreciated. Thanks.

  • IPod Touch 2nd Generation stuck in recovery mode?

So I cleaned my iPod screen recently with just little water and a tissue. The screen then kept turning on and off, as if somebody was hitting the lock button repeatedly. I didn't take it seriously and I pushed the lock button myself to try and stop the spastic screen. I left it sitting on my desk for a while, when I come back, it was completely off and would not turn back on.
After time it got better and was able to show me the Apple logo for a couple seconds, then turn off by itself again. Then it was able to display the "Connect to iTunes" picture, so I did and iTunes recognizes it just fine, but the name is reset to "iPod". When I do the restore, it completes it fully and restarts. After it restarts it still shows me the recovery message on iTunes informing me I still can't use it until it is restored. This loop just continues. It's been about 24 hours so far.
Could it really be some sort of water damage? I've cleaned it off before and this never happened. Maybe I should put it in rice?
    Help would be tremendously appreciated.
