IPod Touch 5th Generation won't boot?

I have an iPod Touch 5th Generation. Recently, I plugged it in to charge overnight, and upon awakening it was turned off. It booted fine then, but took longer than usual. The same thing happened even more recently, but now it will not boot. Instead, it remains at the apple logo for over 8 hours. I have tried a hard reboot already. I am able to enter both DFU mode and recovery mode, but they are both recognized by iTunes as recovery mode. I know it must be in DFU mode because the screen is black.. My most recent backup was to my laptop but is EXTREMELY outdated, and it got corrupted. Is there a way to make an encrypted backup while the device is in either DFU or recovery mode? I refuse to restore the device as I would lose over $5,000 worth of information. Any solutions? I am running iOS 7.0.4 and am unaware of any update-- if there is one let me know. My device is NOT jailbroken, but I think the warranty expired a few days ago- ironically just before this happened. Nice timing.

I plugged it in to charge this morning while it was in recovery mode. I just came home to see it in the reboot loop again. I have unplugged it and did the following:
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
Once the Apple logo showed up, I plugged it in to my computer and waited for iTunes to recognize the device for about 15 minutes. Nothing happened, so I could not backup the device.
Since it has a full charge, I would estimate it to take many hours to discharge completely. By "discharge completely", do you mean to drain it to the point where the internal clock stops functioning? I have done this on my iPhone 3G many times, and it fixes most errors. I intend to drain it past the "low battery" image that shows when attempting to turn on the device.

If you mean the headphones work but the speaker does not:
    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.

  • How come my iPod Touch (5th Generation) won't appear in iTunes?

My iPod Touch (5th Generation) won't appear in iTunes. I've never had any problem like this until we got that new charger and USB cord that comes with the 5th Generation. We just barely managed to get it to charge with my HP laptop. Before the device was considered "unknown" and was rejected by my computer, but then I found an article that said to uninstall the USB driver or whatever, and we did so, so now it's able to charge. We got all happy, thinking that it was going to apear in iTunes now, but it's still not there. It's said to be "Apple iPod" whenever it pops up after being connected to the computer, but it doesn't open in iTunes. I tried going under "File" and then "Device", and then trying to sync, but it appears gray and won't let me click on it. I don't know how to get it to open there. Can anyone help me? Please?

    - Reboot the computer
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

ipod touch (5th generation) won't sync all selected music in itunes version 12.0.1.  Under the summary tab, I've selected "Sync only checked songs and videos."  In the music tab, I've selected the various albums and artists I want.  I click on "sync," and some albums sync, others do not.  Often, only some tracks of the selected albums sync.  Additionally, some albums sync that I haven't even selected.  My computer's operating system is Windows 8.1.  Please help - thank you!

Providing the songs play OK in iTunes on the computer and you do not have any Restrictions set that wold prevent syncing those songs (Settings>General>Restrictions; iTunes purchases only)

  • IPod Touch 5th Generation won't turn on and the home button is broken, followed the steps from another thread but it's still not working

I have an iPod Touch 5th Generation with iOS 8.1, my home button is broken and I've been using AssistiveTouch for months now. Today I just locked my iPod and it wouldn't unlock again, it doesn't respond at all, it won't turn on. It was almost fully charged, so it's not the battery. I followed the steps from this thread, but I'm still getting the "USBMuxListenerCreate: No Error" message in CMD Prompt. I bought my iPod abroad and even though I do have the warranty, I've been told at the iStore that it's not valid here, so going to the store isn't really an option. Any ideas how to solve this?

Sorry, but without a working home button it is not possible to reset or restore your device. You should visit an Authorized Appel Service Provider or Apple Store to get it serviced. The warranty for an iPod is not limited to the country where it has been bought, check here: one-year limited warranty
Jailbraking the device will void the warranty.
You can check the warranty status by inserting the serial number on this page: https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do

  • My iPod touch 5th generation won't turn on after the new iOS update

I've just updated my iPod touch 5th generation to the iOS 8.1.1. (or whatever the newest update is) but once it updated, it now won't turn back on. I've tried plugging it into multiple chargers and computers just in case it wasn't charged, and tired turning it on, but all I get is the apple logo and nothing's happening. What can I do? I haven't backed it up this month and I don't want to loose all my stuff. Thanks.

Try the following. It is very likely that the iPod will have to be erased:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Brand new Ipod touch 5th generation won't charge.

Hi! So i just got my brand new ipod touch 5th generation in the mail. I went to turn it on but there was no power, so then i plugged it in to charge, but now every time i try to turn it on, the red battery charge symbol shows up, and its been charging for an hour now. I have used many apple products before and they usually dont take that long to charge. Does anyone know what the problem is?
    PLEASE HELP!
    thanks.

    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • IPod touch 5th generation won't connect to the tv after doing up grade

iPod 5th generation won't connect to the tv after doing an software update. Get an error message (this accessory is Not Supported by iPod touch) please help me with this

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

  • My Ipod Touch 5th Generation won't connect to my laptop.  My phone however will. What can I do?

My Ipod touch and phone will both charge when plugged into the wall.  My phone an iphone 4th generation will connect to my laptop.  I have uninstalled and installed itunes as well as checking the Apple USB Drive and neither has helped.  Not sure if it matters but my computer was recently updated to Windows 8.1.  Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do?  Thanks.

    Does it charge?
What model iPhone and iOS connects?
    Do you have iTunes 12?
If you are not using the same cable as the phone try another cable.

  • Ipod Touch 3rd Generation won't boot up. Shows apple then shuts down.

I have been having troubles with my ipod touch for the past week. I have been able to get it into DFU mode and restore but after it restores it says that the ipod will restart and it shuts off then just goes back to the cycling apple. On with apple, few seconds later, completely off. I have tried to restore it many times. I don't care about the data on the ipod because everything is on my computer. Please help with this because I am hoping to have an Ipod for school.
Note: I have also tried to download the firmware (5.1.1) seperatly then selecting it using shift in iTunes.

Sounds like you have a hardware issue there--like a bad logic board. I would take it to an Apple Store.

  • My iPod Touch 5th Generation won't sync to my computer

It'll sync to iTunes but not to my computer (the folder that normally holds all my pictures isn't in the My Computer part). It's never had this problem before. My iTunes also keeps saying "iTunes was not installed properly. If you want to import or burn CD's, reinstall it" or something to that affect. Yes, I've uninstalled iTunes and everything to do with Apple and reinstalled everything like eight times but it keeps on doing it. I've given up at this point because I've followed every step that the support has given but to no avail. But I have noticed one thing: in device manager while my iPod Touch is plugged in, it does get recognized but there is an '!' mark on it. The 'Apple Mobile Device USB Driver' that is normall in the 'Universial Serial Bus controllers' section has moved.
When I right click on the 'Apple iPod' thing, it shows an error saying "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)". What do I do? It's not all that bothersome but it is annoying. I'm certainly not buying another iPod Touch just to fix this. Much help is appriciated but please don't give me links to those useless support sections where they say to uninstall everything Apple related and then reinstall it because I've done that like eight times.

  • IPod Touch 5th Generation Won't Turn On

Well this is what happened, about 5 months ago my brother's charger for the iPod 5 wasn't working, so he tried to fix it himself. When he thought he fixed it he plugged the iPod 5 in to charge, and it instantly "killed" it I guess you could say, so it doesn't turn on anymore. Just recently I was looking into it and trying to find ways to repair it on my own, to see if anything would work. I don't know if what he did just killed the battery and I should just go into the apple store and get a new battery, or what. Please help me out. Thanks!

There are no bents on the charger. When I plug it into my computer (MacBook Air) it says that a USB has used to much power and something like that... I already have my iPod updated to the ios 7. I had the iPod for about 3 months now. What is wrong with it?

  • My iPod touch 5th generation won't turn on or charge and the home button is broken, how do I get it working?

I've tried buying new chargers and plugging them into different outlets around the house but the iPod will not respond to anything.  The home button is broken so I can't reset the iPod by holding both the home and lock screen buttons down, and it won't even connect to iTunes when plugged into my computer.  How can I fix this issue? The iPod never overheated or anything, and it still had charge left before it quit responding.

Unfortunately for you, the home button is necessary for reset and also to put the device into recovery mode or DFU mode. Since that is not working, and the device is not recognized in iTunes, check the charging port area. There could be dust, lint, etc, that is blocking the connection for charging, and connecting to iTunes. If nothing seems wrong there, then make an appointment at the Genius Bar of the nearest Apple Store or Authorized Apple Service provider, depending on your location. There is no other option.
