IPod touch 5thgen losing battery while turned off??

I've noticed upon receiving my new 5th Gen iPod touch that the battery life seems ridicuously poor. I have to charge it almost every day even with no apps running in the background, bluetooth off, no fetching, wifi off when not in use and only playing music for about 40 mins a day.  Another wierd thing is that my ipods Usage says 15,740 days, 23 hours and Standby says 15,741 days, 10 hours ... I only got this ipod at christmas time!! Also, my messages app sometimes freezes after a few seconds of typing and I have to reset again and again to ever get the message out.
Some help would be greatly appreciated

Also, when I have about a third of battery left and then fully turn off my iPod for the night, I wake up to find that it is completely drained and won't turn on at all.

  • Apple ipod touch 5 losing battery even when off

I have an ipod Touch 5g on operating system ios 7.1.2 and non jailbroken. Recently, the battery has begun draining rapidly (it lasts about 2 hours on the usual apps and websites I go on rather than the normal 5-6 hours). It has also been losing battery when completely off, much like it would when on. The charging process is also rather slow.
My ipod is only two months old, and this happened once before, although once the battery had run out in the morning and I recharged it, it was okay again, but the same thing has now happened again and hasn't fixed.
I've tried resetting and restoring my ipod with no improvements, as well as trying other backups to check that one wasn't corrupt. I also tried turning off elements of icloud, because I googled my issue and some people suggested that may help; it was to no avail.
I also keep getting a diagnostic that says something like this and was wondering if this was anything to do with the problem:
    {"os_version":"iPhone OS 7.1.2 (11D257)","name":"Reset count","bug_type":"115"}
Hopefully, someone can shed some insight on this situation. I'm still under warranty so if a trip to the genius bar is needed, I guess that is where I shall have to go. Thanks to anyone who helps.

I've turned all my background app refresh off now, although I only had one on and this was never a problem before. Also, my battery is always on the lowest setting even before there was a problem with the battery.
I removed all my mail accounts and readded them, after a pop up came up about them one morning. This has significantly improved my battery life when on and off, however my battery still drops a little faster than usual (especially when off).
I've started to get something like this in diagnostics (about battery):
    {"os_version":"iPhone OS 7.1.2 (11D257)","bug_type":"120"}
i'm unsure whether this has anything to do with the problem but I thought I'd add it to this discussion in case.
I'm also thinking about updating to ios8 to see if this helps my issue.

  • My iPod Touch 4 generation drained while turned off not on standby

Sorry if this is a stupid question but I am new to iPods and up to this past weekend my iPod was working great. So after fully charging it I shut it off but when I woke up in the morning and turned it on the battery was at 35% Then I downloaded the latest update and I noticed that the battery has been draining faster than usual. I shut of every app that was running and it still drained quickly.
This iPod is only a little over a month old.
Any ideas what could be wrong?

You said after a full charge you turned it off and then later after turning it on it was at 35% battery. Did you really power the iPod off? ( Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button until the red slider
appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPod touch) or did you jut put it to sleep? If you turned it off then you have a problem. However, it it was asleep then battery can drain when asleep after the recent updates since the updates allowed the iPod to do thins when asleep like get mail and other things.

    Try:

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

  • My ipod touch is froze and wont turn off. any ideas?

My ipod touch is frozen and wont turn off. I need help everything ive tried isnt working!

Just had this similiar issue with my iPod.  Simple steps found through the Apple Support Website. Follow this link:http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1320, or follow instructions listed below to reset a frozen iPod nano/classic/color display/click-wheel, etc.:
    1) Toggle the Hold switch on and then off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again)
    2) Press and hold the Menu and center buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds.  This step may need to be repeated. (*sidenote...I also found that the iPod would not respond/reset when it was connected to my computer. It just continued to state that it was connected and needed to be ejected before disconnecting.  I pulled the link cable out of the frozen iPod and followed the above steps and it reset normally.)
    Hope this helps...

  • Ipod touch will not won't turn off

How do u turn off an iPod touch? Holding down the off button isn't working. I also noticed that I can't adjust the volume using the outer buttons either.

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely.  Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again.

  • My 1st Gen Ipod Touch won't charge while turned on, dies 30 seconds after powering on.

I own a first gen Ipod Touch. Recently I let it sit until the battery died. When I went to charge it, it wouldn't charge unless I held the charger a specific way. Then, when I discovered the one way it accepted the charger, it started charging. However, once the apple logo popped up and my password screen came on, the ipod was no longer charging. Keep in mind I still had the charger in the same way as before. Around 30 seconds after the Ipod started, it shut back off. This keeps happening and I've tried a bunch of things. Nothing I've searched for gets me any results. Any help?

    Have you tried:
    - Using another cable?
    - Restore in the iPod. First from backup and then to factory defaults/new iPod?
    - Looking carefully at the dock connector on the iPod.  Look for bend or corroded contacts or other abnormalities?
It sounds like you have a problem with the dock connector or cable or maybe a bad battery.

  • How do i get my iPod touch to be able to turn off....

  • Ipod Touch restarts 'now playing' when turned off?

I use to be a 2nd gen ipod nano user and I just play my songs from the song list (not artist, album, genre etc.). Every time I turn it off and turn it back on, it shows the last song I listened to and the position I'm at (For example, 123 of 400).
Now that I switched over to an ipod Touch, every time I turn it off and turn it back on, it can't remember what song I last listened to and restarts my playlist position (For example, I'm at song 56 of 300 and when I restart it, it goes back to 1 of 300)
This is very frustrating to me. Is there a way for the ipod Touch to do what I described in the ipod nano?? Or is that just the way it's made?!

If you put it in sleep mode by briefly pressing the sleep/wake button on the top, and then go to turn it back on by briefly pressing the sleep/wake button or home button, it will continue where you left off in the playlist.
If you shut it completely down by pressing and holding the sleep/wake button until you get the 'slide to power off' message and then go to turn it back on, it will not continue where you left off. It will just display the playlist you were in.

  • HT4915 My iPod touch will not let me turn off automatic downloads and match is clogging up everything will downloads that I don't want. Help!

After getting the match program my iPod is trying to download my entire library from the cloud. I have too much music and not enough space so it is constantly running trying to download and I haven't figured out a way to stop the downloads so that I can get what I want. When trying to deselect the automatic downloads it slides back to on. Is there a way to stop this madness? I can't even listen to what music I do have on it.

Having automatic downloads on does not cause iTunes Match to automatically download your Match library to your device.  It only causes new purchases made on another device with the same ID to automatically download to your device.
Try turning off iTunes Match on your device, then turn it back on.  If it's still downloading unwanted media, go to Settings>iTunes & App Store, tap your ID, sign out, then sign back in.

  • When i have my ipod touch 4th generation the wifi turns off

my wifi turns off it says unable to use this wifi connection

Does the iOS device connect OK to other networks?
Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
Do other devices now connect OK?
Did the iOS device connect OK before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
