Ipod Touch 8GB Model a1213. Cant get to HOME screen?

My friend bought new in '08 a iPod Touch 8GB- Model a1213. Her son had always loade music but, he pasted away so, she was tried herself. Now her screen, when powered up, shows a Musical Note over a Disk, under that, shows the Plug that connects to bottom of iPod Touch. We cant get to home or any other screen. Thanks!

It sounds like the iPod is in Recovery Mode.  You'll need to connect the iPod Touch to her iTunes library and restore it.

Googling shows that you have the 1G iPod.  For apps you need at least iOS 2. The iG can go as far os 3.1.3 that you get here:
Purchasing iOS 3.1 Software Update for iPod touch (1st generation)
Just be aware that there are presently not that many apps that work with a 1G with iOS 3.1.3

I found my old iPod touch and  was hoping to get it up to date to put some of the apps from my iPhone 5c that my twin 2 year olds like.  Can I not get a newer version that would be compatible with those games?  Or at least Pandora or Sirius XM app?

    No, you can't.

  • My iPod touch 4th gen is frozen on my home screen

My iPod is stuck on my home screen, and when i swipe or touch any apps nothing happens its totally frozen. My assistive touch is on, and when i touch that it opens it, but nothing on that works, like ill press the lock button and it wont lock, and ill hold it and it wont let me shut off my ipod because that option wont show up. My touch is responsive on the assistive touch, but on nothing else, not my home screen. It will let me screenshot and thats it. My top lock button is broken, and my circle button at the bottom works but when i click it nothing happens. My iPod also has full battery so itll take a long time to drain. Help?

Please tell me that it has NEVER been jailbroke.  If it hasn't been, here are some standard repair procedures:
First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore (or it doesn't help), go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again.  Also, if you have IOS-7, read this.

  • Ipod touch, gen. 4, cant get to enternet!

i just got a new ipod 4 gen and i dont know how to connect to enternet!it says choose networe...other...i dont know wat that means plz help

Your iPod touch can connect to the Internet through wireless. In order to connect to wireless you first have to have a wireless router which you have to buy and connect to your modem which provides internet to your house. once you have done this you can go to settings on your iPod and tap the wireless item near the top of the list. within a few seconds the iPod should display a list of names. Select the name of your network which will be mentioned in the manual that came with your router and you should be good to go.

  • Ipod touch 4th gen. won't load to home screen. Stuck on apple logo for two days. Help?!

My ipod touch's battery died, so I plugged it in to charge. After awhile it turned on to where the apple logo shows up. After a day the logo was still on the screen with a loading sign there. It won't load to the home screen after 2 days. Help?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • IPod Touch 2gen iOS 4 Can't change home screen wallpaper

I just updated my iPod Touch 2 generation to iOS 4 and I was excited about changing the home screen wallpaper, but when i went to change it, that option wasn't there. Is there some reason this feature is not available on the iPod Touch (or mine at least)? I am confused and disappointed..

You never could change the background... At least, I never could!
You can change the picture for the "home" screen, unless I'm mistaken. This is the screen you see when you click on the iPod waking it from stand-by. You'll see the "slide to unlock" slider, and your image in the background, but that's it!
Now, here's the "thing"... Granted, I've not been using it for a couple of months, so correct me if I'm wrong. Behind all the icons, the background had the typical "space" image. Dark, with red gassy clusters and stars... The same default image from OS X. Or, maybe I'm going crazy, and it's always been solid black.
After I ran the update, I did the same thing as everyone else... Tried to set my background, only to find it isn't supported on the 2g. I was surprised to find it solid black though. Were did my star picture go?
So, please let me know if I'm imagining the old starry background was there, or if the update has sucked it away to blackness.
(Otherwise, folders are good... That is all.)

  • IPod touch 4. Generation locked up at home screen

Can you do it with out  ad my iPod says disabled

    Disabled
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
    iOS: How to back up
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:

    i have a i believe a iPod touch 8gb 2nd gen..how do i updrade it to get more apps

iOS 4.2.1 is the last version of iOS that a 2nd-gen iPod touch can run. If the apps you want require a newer version of iOS, then you'll have to purchase a newer-model iPod.

  • HT1476 Help!!! Please!!! iPod touch 8gb w/camera (older model) won't charge :(

Have an older model iPod touch 8gb w/camera that will not charge. I know it's not the cord or the device we are using to charge it because ithas been working to charge it before and it charges all our other ipod devices.
An example of what it does. The battery will show that it needs to be charged in the upper right corner, it'll be red. So we will plug the iPod in to charge. Even if it's plugged in all night long, it doesn't charge. The green battery icon that used to be on the screen when it was plugged in, no longer shows up. Also, the battery icon in the upper right corner doesn't change from red and doesn't show it's plugged in. I have tried to holdoing down the power and home button to reset the device. I'm not sure what else to try. Are there places to take your iPod for repair or should I contact apple? HELP!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!

    - See the not-charging topic of:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    - Does iTunes see the iPod when you connect to your computer?
    - Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Look for abnormalities like bent or corroded contacts, foreign material and cracked or broken plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
