Ipod Touch acting strange

My ipod touch is acting really strange. Several things are happening, but I think they are connected somehow because they all started at the same time. First, when watching movies the screen expands and contracts. It's really distracting. Second, when listening to music or audio books, the display screen (with the song, play/stop/fwd/rwd) reverts back to the playlist screen. If I want to fwd to the next song, I have to hit "now playing" to get back to the screen with the song on it. Third, If I am scrolling down my songs, the screen will automatically shoot back up to the top of the list (the A's, for example)without me even touching it, and before I actually have time to make a selection. Has anyone else had these problems? I can't find any information on it. I have tried cleaning my screen and "restoring" my Ipod....both by hitting the two buttons on the touch and while synced to Itunes. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

My advice would be to just go into an Apple Store and get it checked out with all these problems. If you don't have a store near you, you should arrange a call with an expert on the Apple website. Go to the support page, go to the bottom and select 'Contact Us'. Then choose what you want to do.

  • Why is my Ipod shuffle acting strange?

Ever since I put certain songs on my Ipod Shuffle, it has acted strangely with those somgs. For example, when I try to skip one of the songs, it instead goes back to the beginning. The same thing can be said for going back in the song list. Sometimes, after doing it fast enough, it changes the VoiceOver language for no reason from English to a language I can't identify. This is even wierder when the song title is in English. Some of the songs I added are not llayed at all, or when I play a voiceover of one of the songs, then go back to hear the name of it again, it says a different title. This happens only with these songs, which is about 8 sings, but the Ipod only plays 5 or 6, and it says one title one second, and another title the next. Is it the audio files? I have erased all of the music, then re-synced it, but it did not help. This problem is very complicated and strange. Also, this all happens when the songs are in order, as I do not listen to music when it is shuffled.

  • Need help!!! ipod touch acting very wierd!!!

i went on vacation and i tried to listen to my ipod. i tried to turn it on but it wouldnt work. i tried to hold both buttons down and it turned on, but it would turn on, show the apple logo, shut off, and then do the same thing over and over until i reset it again.then it would just turn off. i tried connecting it to my computer when i got home. itunes said it was in recovery mode and i had to restore it. i tried but i got a message saying an unknown error 1603 occured. after that it wouldnt turn on at all. i looked again today and it turned on, but like before only if i held both buttons down to reset it. now it has a lot of random numbers and letters and then it says this at the bottom:

Taken from Apple's iPod touch Service FAQs:

  • My iPod is acting strange.  It keeps shutting down every time I try to edit a photo! What's wrong?

Every time I try to edit one of my photos on my iPod touch it shuts down!

There is a bug in iOS 5.1.1. You have to wait for an update (if you have a 4G). If yo have a 3G iPod there may be no further updates.

  • Ipod touch making strange noises

My ipod touch (4th gen) is making a clicking/grinding noise when I am listening to pandora and try to go into the bump app. Is this a problem with the pandora or bump app or my ipod? Is it a hard drive problem? What can I do to fix this? I already tried restarting the ipod several times, sounds still occurs. But it ONLY occurs when I'm listening the the Pandora app and enter the Bump app (which turns off pandora) then I press play (on my headphones) and the noise is back. I'm really confused, what should I do?

Pandora is not a faulty app. This might be a problem with the ipod touch itself. Try resetting by holding the home button and the sleep/wake button for up to 15 seconds until the apple logo appears. If that doesn't work try doing a restore.
A restore will delete all data from your ipod touch and return it to it's factory conditions but I can almost guarantee that it will fix your problem. I suggest you make a backup file for your ipod touch before doing this.
To restore your ipod touch follow these steps:
    1. Connect your ipod touch to your computer and open iTunes if not already open.
    2. Select your ipod touch from devices section of the source pane and open the summary tab if not already open
    3.  Under the version section of the summary, click on the restore button. An alert will pop up asking if you really want to do this. To affirm click restore.
    4. The restore process has now started.
Now with your ipod touch restored you can re-sync and Pandora should now work.

  • Ipod Touch Acts like a Camera?

Anyone else had this experience? Today my Touch wigged out on me and started acting like a camera. Everytime I touched the power/on/off button you could hear a shutter sound like a camera takng a picture.
I plugged it into my computer and it found new hardware - apple camera?
It doesnt have a camera. THe "pictures" it took are screen shots of the song playing when this happened and another one was my wallpaper page.
Very strange indeed. I've had this for 2 years or so and never seen anything like this. Any ideas?

waaaait. when you click the sleep button, there ISN'T supposed to be a little shutter sound? b/c mine has done that since i first got it like 2months ago.
yes there is. pressing the home and sleep button creates a 'screenshot' and a shutter sound is heard.

  • Ipod touch acting possessed! Almost like a virus. Auto selects letters, apps, etc. Doesnt let me slide bar until 4th attempt of more.

My Ipod has been acting funny. First, I have a hard time using the slide bar to get into the first page. After 5 tries it lets me slide and enter. Then the ipod auto selections apps such as 'notes' app and will type random letters without me touching screen. Then if I try typing it will let me type most letters except 'n' and 'o' I have tried resetting and system restore to old backup as well as to new ipod. Nothing working.

  • Ipod Touch with strange Wi Fi network on the interstate

Driving from Florida to Georgia this weekend I noticed in the top left corner of my Touch I had 3 blue bars. Since the Touch is not tethered and obviously is not an iPhone I was curious. So I went into settings and under the WiFi setting the network listed was "Setup". The blue bars continued for almost 100 miles before I finally stopped trying to figure it out and quit looking at them.
I wasn't sure if this was some type of new network the Touch with OS 4.0 tries to find on our phone or what it was. I did turn off the bluetooth on the touch to see if maybe that was it but the blue bars remained.
Has anyone else had this strange phantom network show up? Especially while driving over long distances in a car on an interstate.

No internet likely means connected to router but the router either has no internet or has MAC address filtering enabled. That's a complete stumper to me, as to why you'd be having that for such a distance with nothing in your car. I could imagine a new car might have some kind of WiFi capability in the GPS system or in a multimedia car stereo.. But you'd know if you had something like that I assume.. So then there is the idea of a device someone had in your car that broadcasts an adhoc network, maybe a 3G phone with tethering, but again you'd assumedly be aware of that. You obviously aren't next to the same vehicle for a hundred or more miles of highway, and you'd have certainly noticed that as well. So all I can imagine is that the Department of Transportation is setting up a highway WiFi network for some reason, perhaps for Highway Patrol or emergency purposest. Of course that's wild speculation, but this is a pretty wild story! It certainly is an awfully curious mystery.
I was going to post at this point but decided to do a Google search first. There are a number of interesting articles if you search for "highway wifi". There indeed are apparently stretches of highways as well as rest stops being outfitted with WiFi. Also, new cars and navigation systems are including self-generating WiFi hotspots, as well as networks converting 3G-to-802.11 signals along highways. I'm not sure if this is being done in the new cars or at the tower level. You'll see all the results at Google.

  • Help!! iPod is acting strange!

    Hi,
I have had this problem start about three days ago (Jan. 25th). When I turned off my iPod for my French class, it did. But then later, I hear some loud music coming from somewhere. I look around, and its not from anyone. I glance down, and my iPod is on! My headphones are blasting the music, and I remove it from my belt clip to turn it off. Strange. It's playing a different playlist from when I turned it off, 3 minutes ago! I was playing some pop, and now its playing rap! I turn it off, and the day goes.
The next day, I leave my iPod on my table while I do some chatting on MSN. Suddenly, I hear whirl of a hard drive. It's not my computer, it sounds like something from an iPod...I look over, and its on! It already played through 6 songs on my rap playlist and was to re-load its cache, on its 7th song. I turn it off, and nothing happens later on.
The very next day, I come from my kitchen after having some pizza for lunch, lean down and turn my computer on. I suddenly hear a whirl of hard drive, the same sound. I look to my iPod, and its on its 7th song, about to re-load its cache, agian. It's playing a different set of songs, and the same playlist as yesterday, but different songs. It looks as if it re-loaded the same rap playlist and started playing it, in diffrent orders. (I have shuffle songs on) It used up about half of battery capacity since 3 days ago, and I'm afraid that it will turn on at middle of night or in middle of a class and drain the battery. Anyone have solution?

This happened to me and turned on during R.E class! It doesn't happen that often though. Perhaps take out the earphones after turning it off to prevent it playing but i'm not sure about the battery sorry.

  • My ipod touch isnt turning on

My ipod touch acts like it is turning on by showing the apple logo but then it just comes to a white screen and then turns off and then starts all over. tried different things but nothing works. what can i do??

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Ipod touch only works on externial battery not charger or internial battery

the other day I was using my ipod touch 3 GEN and it went dead so I tried to run it off the charger cable to finish what I was doing.
It would not work on the charger cable, So I tried a second charger cable and no dice.  I have a IPAD that used the same charger cable and the charger cable worked fine on the IPAD .
I then tried to use an external battery I had for the. iIPOD and it came up with the apple symbol and then booted.  The IPOD seems to work fine on the external battery.
Is my battery in the IPOD bad? or what?

Initially as battery got lower the unit would not even operate so replaced the battery my self.  I found that the IPOD Touch (after the battery was replaced) ran as long as the battery charger was connected.  Funny thing when the battery charger was connected it showed full charge but after opening a few apps it showed 15% charge with the battery charger attached.  I removed the battery charger the IPOD touch died.  Then reattached it and the IPOD touch rebooted and showed full charge.  After a few minutes the battery charge shows 15%.
I opened the Touch up again and measured the battery voltage and externally the current that the touch drew and it was charging and after a while the Battery showed full charge.  when the screen showed 100% the voltage was max and when the screen showed 15% the voltage was the about the same on the battery.  I would expect the voltage to be lower if the Touch was at 15%.
The IPOD Touch 3 Gen works fine as long as I have it plugged in When I had it open it up again I measured the battery voltage with the charger attached and it not attached after a full charge and I don't remember there being much difference in the voltage in both cases.
At least after replacing the battery it works when plugged in.
I use the Touch on my breakfast bar plugged in all the time.  I am assuming there is a defect somewhere in the voltage regulator ckt inside the IPOD Touch , very strange.
Got lots of good years out of it, but am saving now for a new 64 GIG unit.

  • Ipod touch is acting strange

Here are the specifics. I've had this 1st generation for a long time with no problems at all save this last week. It began when the ipod started randomly pausing music and video playback. Not crashing but pausing. I figured it may have something to do with the fact that my headphones had a bit of a short and that may have been responsible. The problem, however, persisted even after I used different head phones. On top of that it seems that the ipod had also decided to no longer work with the AV cables. It had been working for no problem until these las 2 or three days. I can still get audio but no longer do I get video. I am naturally very worried because it's going from being perfectly fine to having the technological equivalent of kidney failure.
It will still play video and music and the apps run fine. I've tried all the usual things with a full restore, updated to the most recent version and all that. I tried cleaning the connections with tweezers and a tiny paper towel. I hadn't dropped it and I just need to know whether or not it could be something fixable or if it's dead.

Could be.  Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to fasctory defaults/new iPod.
If still problem then yu likely have a hardware problem.

  • I have an iPod Touch 4th Generation and it's acting weird. It looks to be something like a calibration error but i don't exactly know. It won't let me tap letters and symbols such as ' ; R and D'. Help?

So my iPod Touch forth gen is acting up. When i try to slide the button to unlock the lock screen, it slides back. It takes several tries for me to do that. I'm able to tap the numbers for the code, but when i try to send messages to my friends or write one of my fanfictions, it goes haywire. It'll enter in letters and words that i didn't even tap on. When i try to tap on a couple of things in particular, it ignores it. '; R D and ~' are some of the letters and symbols that I'm having issues with. Can someone please tell me what's going on? I've restarted it dozens of times, re-entered my passcode, deleted data, and even re-downloaded the keyboards a couple of times. Help!

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

a while ago i backed up my ipod touch 4g and yesterday it was acting up so i restored it and it deleted ALL of my pictures so can anyone help me to get them back?
    currently running iOS 4.3.5

If you restored from backup all the photos in your camera roll that were in the backp should be restored to our iPod.  However, photos that are synced to the iPod are not in the backup. You will have to resyc them to the iPod.  If the synced photos are no longer on the computer then the photos are lost.
