IPod Touch ambient light sensor not working?
Ok, I have an iPod Touch and everything works fine except for auto brightness. Whenever I cover up the light sensor nothing happens, the screen doesn't get lighter or darker...it just stays the same for some reason. The only way I can get auto brightness to work is if I put the iPod Touch into sleep mode and cut it back on again, then it seems to work. Does anyone else have this problem? Also, try covering up the sensor and see if the brightness changes at all, if you can. I have a feeling that my iPod may be defected.

Toshiba - A665-S5170: ambient light sensor not working after recovery
Hi all,
Two weeks ago I bought Toshiba - Satellite Laptop Model: A665-S5170 | SKU: 1859059
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Toshiba+-+Satellite+Laptop+/skuId=1859059
I tried to resize the C: partition using the recovery option. It works fine ending with C: partition (100 GB) and D: partition (480GB)
All the divers and applications restored fine except the ambient light sensor.
I used system recovery to out-of-box state, but still have the same problem "ambient light sensor not working".
Would you please help me find a solution?
Thanks in advance.I had the same problem. I tried resetting SMC but that didn't do the trick. Then I tried “Repair disc permissions“ and that fixed the problem.

Apple iPod Touch 2G Ambient Light Sensor not working!
Now I have a iPod Touch 2nd Generation which I was given for Cristmas 2009 and was really pleased with it and it has only been now that I have
Noticed that the ambient light sensor soposedly built in does not seem to work! It is on in the settings and other people have said that it only senses when it is woken but it does not even do it then!
P.S. I do have a transparent screen protector on it although this should not affect it!Hey A_Legend,

Ambient Light Sensor Not Working Macbook Pro 13 inch early 2011 version
Hi. I just need some clarification on how the ambient light sensor works. it seems mine is not working. Correct me if I'm wrong:
1. Screen light must increase brightness if you are in a dark / dim room
2. Screen light must decrease brightness if there is natural light
What must be the level of light in F2? Should it just be in the middle to activate ALS?
Am I correct or not?1. Screen light must increase brightness if you are in a dark / dim room
2. Screen light must decrease brightness if there is natural light
Actually, you are wrong. The opposite of each statement is true.
If the screen adjusted itself to maximum brightness in a very dark room, it would be blinding. In a dark room, you only need a very dim backlight to be able to see the screen well.
And in bright light, the screen is quite hard to read unless it is very bright.
What must be the level of light in F2? Should it just be in the middle to activate ALS?
I'm sorry, but I don't understand these questions.
The ALS is always active. You can determine (in System Preferences) whether or not it will automatically adjust your keyboard and display backlights as ambient light levels change. -
M640 ambient light sensor not working
The ambient light sensor on my M640-BT2N23 laptop is apparently not functioning, if it exists at all (the laptop's specs say it's there.) Whether I'm looking at the screen in a dark room or a brightly-lit room, the display intensity does not seem to change at all to compensate.
When I check Windows 7's Location and Other Sensors control panel, it says that no sensors are installed.
1) Does my computer include the ambient light sensor?
2) If so, is there a way to activate it?
3) If so, is it worth the effort?
MichaelIn the iPad, open the Settings app and drag the brightness slider to 50%. While 'Brightness and Wallpaper' still open, go to a bright source of light (window, lamp, etc.) and see if it changes; now go to a dark room and see if the button starts to slide to the left (very slowly; really, now it's very slow). Put the iPad to sleep (Still on brightness and wallpaper) and then wake it up again and see if the position of the slidebar changes. Remember that now the ALS behavior has changed and now it works like in OS X.
If you don't see any changes, then it would be time to consider a restore of the iOS via iTunes:

Hope it helps.
Again, sorry about the grammar hehe -

i have it on where it should adjust when im in a dark room or not and it just wont work is it something i should get fix or whats the proper way to fix it
If it's broken, there isn't much you can do except contact Apple. However, it doesn't adjust much and the adjustment is almost impossible to detect! Before you contact Apple, try one thing:
A System Reset cures many ills. It's easy, quick and harmless. Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.
A System Reset does not remove any apps, music, movies, etc. nor does it cause any settings to revert back to default. -
The head phone jack on my brand new iPod touch 5th generation is not working properly
The head phone jack on my brand new iPod touch 5th generation is not working properly. It has sound without the headphones in but when I plug them in it has no sound, it's low, or poppy. I had only used my apple supplied headphones once before and it worked fine. I know it's not the headphones because I tried them on my girlfriends phone and they worked fine.
- Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.

he menu button of the ipod touch (4th generation) is not working and the service center of ipod is asking us to pay for the fixation of the said item even though it's still on warranty. this is the case number 215866894. And the service center said that they don't cover that center part of the ipod so they're asking us money before they can fix it. We bought the ipod last december 8, 2010 and we brought it to the service center last april, 2011 here in the philippines. And until now they're not fixing it because they're asking us to pay half the price of the item which is 8,040 pesos..
As advised, you need to call Apple about this.

No one here works for Apple (no one who will reply, anyway) so there's nothing anyone here can do to help you with this issue.
Good luck. -

If a restore did not fix it, you have a hardware issue--possible bad wi-fi radio.

I forgot my passcode and tried restoring my ipod touch, but it's not working. What should I do?
Did you place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

For how to restore:
iTunes: Restoring iOS software
To restore from backup see:
iOS: How to back up
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store -
My ipod touch headphone jack do not work when I plug in any headphones to it. How do I get to listen on headphones with my IPod touch?
You likely have a problem with the headphone jack. You jhave to ways to listen to music via headphones:
- Get the jack fixed. Here is one place:
DigiExpress.us - The iPad Repair Professionals
However first I wold rule out a software problem by try the following:
Reset the iPod:
Reset iPod touch: Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore the iPod from backup
- Restore the iPod to factory defaults.
The other way is to use bluetooth headhone if you have a 2G or later iPod.
