Ipod touch and Library
My PC's hard drive failed and I lost everything including the Library ( unless Itunes has a copy?). I have a lot of movies and music and Apps on my Ipod touch. How do I get these back into my library and what options should I select for my Ipod eg manually manage music etc?
any more ideas otherwise i will just try and find time to take it to an apple store to get serviced.

After I reset my Ipod (deleted all data and settings) windows 7 doesn't recognize by ipod touch, and it doesn't appear in the itunes library or in the device menu, but it does charge. How can I get my computer to recognize it again?

I have an Ipod touch and recently added new music to my Itunes library. When I sync with the library, the new music does not show up on my ipod. The sync process seems to be working and there is still plenty of space on the Ipod for new music so I'm not sure what the problem is!
What happens when you try to sync?
Was the iPod previous synced to another iTunes library/computer?
Have you successfully synced from this iTunes library/computer before?
Do the songs play in iTunes?
Do you have the right boxes checked to sync?

I have bought a new ipod touch and when i went to sync my music library on to it only a few songs went over, the ones that didnt had a ! next to them. I had no problem when using my last ipod touch but i was using a pc at the time not a mac though.
Hi there,
This usually meas that iTunes can't find the original files. I would recommend taking a look at the article below for some tips on locating that lost media.

I have my iTunes on my PC and have an iPod Classic, I have just purchased an iPod touch and want to load all of my Itunes music onto it, how do I do this and not loose my library, I'm not very computer savvy.
You sync music the same way as on the Classic. What you sync to an iPod does not effect the iTunes library on your computer.

Hi, I have an iPod touch and am thinking of getting an iPhone to use as well, will I be able to use them both from the same computer or will there be some problems?
Yes. There is no limit to the number of iPads, iPods, or iPhones you can sync with one computer, iTunes library, or account. See this article for different ways to manage multiple devices.

Working on a single computer with multiple users, I have set things up to allow each user to view and listen to the others' music libraries under the "Shared Library" function. Can you then connect an iPod touch and copy music from a shared library?
Was your wife logged into the libray at the time you tried to log in? I have had a similar problem and it was because another user was logged into the library when I attempted to. I got the permission denied banner.

I have created an iTunes account on my current computer for my daughters ipod touch and tried connecting my ipod nano and it won't sync and says that it is associated with another iTunes library so how do I merge the two libraries?
You do not merge libraries.
iDevices sync to one and only one computer.
If you want a single library, you manually move the content from one library to another... all content will still be associated with the Apple ID it was acquired with. -
I have an old Ipod 5th gen that I have been using for downloading music from my library. Upon purchasing an Ipod touch and registering it in Itunes, I can no longer sync tunes to my old ipod. How can I get that option back on my old ipod?

I have created another iTunes library (so I have 1 for an ipod touch and a separate 1 for an iPad), but the apps from the iPad appear in both libraries. How can I stop this so the 2 libraries are completely separate? Thanks
You don't need two separate libraries to manage two devices.
I suspect the reason that the apps are appearing in both libraries is that you have enabled automatic downloads in iTunes and automatic syncing of apps so that all your purchases end up in both libraries, defeating your original aim.
Why not use a single library and make playlists for the media content you want on each device? Disable Settings > Store > Automatic Downloads > Apps on each device, then connect each device in turn and turn off Automatically Sync Apps on the Apps page.
You can now manage your devices independently, while only having to manage the content of one iTunes library, instead of two.

I work in a public library and we have two ipod touch and two ipod nanos we would like to circulate for our patrons. Any advice on how we can do this? Should we allow patrons to set the device up for personal use or download static content?
With the Nanos, you should have no problem lending them loaded with audiobooks from Librivox, etc.
As for the iPod Touches, I'm not sure the question is whether you should allow patrons to set up the device for personal accounts, but whether you can prevent them from doing so. Prepare to to a factory restore every time one is returned. -
I synced my ipod touch and the library opened up with some songs missing. These songs remain on my ipod, I thought that by syncing they would return to my itunes library. But they won't. Has anyone seen this before?
You should be able to copy iTunes purchases back to your computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases. For music purchased from other sites or copied from your own CDs then are they not already on your computer and/or on a backup ? If not then you will need to find a third-party program that can copy them off the iPod.

I just found out in iTunes help that my iPod touch will only sync to one library unlike iPod. What is the difference in technology between the iPod touch and the iPod that makes this so?
ThanksYou can manage music and videos among different computers/libraries by following these instructions. You can only sync apps and photos from one library.

I have a new iPod Touch and one apple ID. I want to use My laptop aswell as my desktop computer for the one ipod, using the same apple ID. I have music on both computers and want to merge the two without losing any music or apps. How do I do this?
My iPod has music and apps from my apple ID that I downloaded to my iPod via iCloud and some apps that I got free from the store, straight onto my iPod, but my laptop has some music on it aswell, separate from my other library. I want to put the music from my laptop into my iTunes library which I want to use on both computers. Is it possible to do this?
Thanks.- You can only sync an iPod to one iTunes library/computer. You can however, manually manage music and videos among different libraries.
Go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync your iPod....>Sync You Device>Set up Syncing>Sync your device manually and follow the instructions.
- If y wnat to switch syncing libraries/computer see:
go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync your iPod....>Sync You Device>Set up Syncing>Sync your device manually and follow the instructions.
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities
If all the synced media like music is in the iTunes library of the second computer it is very easy. -
Hello, and thank you for any help anyone can offer. I subscribed to iTunes Match to transfer my music that's been stuck on my iPod Touch (iOS 5.1.1) to my new computer.
First, some background to explain my problem. On an old laptop, I had 15,000+ songs (mostly video game music downloaded online) that I synced to my iPod Touch. The computer containing that music started having trouble and likely died. I was unable to afford having it looked at, but all the music from it has remained on my iPod Touch.
Recently, instead of trying to have the old computer fixed, I bought a new laptop. I was looking for a solution to get the music from my iPod Touch onto my new computer, since I know syncing with it would cost me every song I have on the iPod Touch that I didn't download on iTunes Store. I thought iTunes Match was the solution, that it would bring the music on my iPod Touch to the iCloud, and I'd at last be able to download my huge library onto the new computer from there.
Now, the problem: I had to purchase the iTunes Match service on my laptop iTunes. It put all my purchased music from the laptop on iTunes Match. Well, when I go to iPod Touch and try to turn on iTunes Match, it says: "iTunes Match will replace the music library on this device." I assume if I do that, it'll wipe out my 15,000+ iPod Touch songs from my old laptop and replace them with the 1200 or so that I've purchased from the iTunes Store (which I already have on my iPod)!!! That is the last thing I want to do! Is there a way of getting my iPod Touch library to the cloud so I can access it on iTunes, or have I wasted $25 on iTunes Match? If I wanted to replace the 15,000 songs on my iPod with the little library of purchased music on my new computer, I would just plug my iPod into it and sync! Furthermore, my purchases were already available on the iCloud when I authorized this new computer, without spending a dime. I've put a lot of time into my library, and making playlists as well. Any help getting my iPod music on iTunes Match is greatly appreciated! Sorry if I've overlooked something obvious, this is my first experience with cloud-based services.iTunes Match does not work this way. The service does not scan the music on an iOS device, only an iTunes library. For your music to be available in the cloud it must first be in an iTunes library. See the following articles:

https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
An iOS device or iPod is not a storage device or backup of your music library. It is your responsibliity to maintain a backup of your music and other personal data.
