Ipod touch and new computer!

I had installed itunes on my old computer, the hard drive failed and I had to insall a new hard drive, having done so when I plug in my Ipod touch it indicates that I have to resync my ipod to the new machine, but this will mean I lose all my music.
Is there anyway, in these circumstances, to keep my music and get my iPod to sync to the new machine?
Thanks in advance.

You can try a 3rd party program (at your risk, this is neither supported nor endorsed by Apple).
Otherwise, yes, the music is gone.
You should at least transfer your purchases to the new machine and then backup to an external source.

I have 2 older iPod touches and 1 computer. It will reconize one but not the other. How do I sync music on both?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Look for abnormalities like bent or corroded contacts, cracked or broken plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genus Bar of an Apple store.

  • How to sync ipod touch to new computer itunes library after old itunes library computer crash without wiping out "library" on ipod touch

how to sync ipod touch to new computer itunes library after old itunes library lost in computer crash, without erasing ipod touch

Sync is only oneway, from PC to your device. Unless you have the music on your PC, iTunes is going to wipe out what you have on your device if you are syncing to a new library.
You can only transfer Purchased music over to Itunes on your PC.

As for you own music, you may have to use a third party software. A good Free one is called Sharepod which you can download from Download.com here:

  • Can't sync playlists from ipod touch to new computer

Can't Sync Playlists from iPod Touch to New Library
I just upgraded from an old Pentium computer to a new Dell XPS 18 running Windows 8.1.  Downloaded latest version of iTunes to the new computer, then successfully transferred library content from the old computer to the new one via the external hard drive method.  All material -- iTunes purchases, music ripped from CDs, a movie, even MP3 files purchased long ago from another source -- transferred successfully; everything plays on the new computer just fine.
My problem is that the "old" playlists didn't transfer over.  After connecting my iPod Touch to the new computer, I verified that the iPod has the latest version of iOS, and its content (including the old/original playlists) displays in the window on the left-hand side of the iTunes screen.  The really frustrating thing is that I can find no way to transfer the old playlists to my new iTunes library.  I've tried dragging and dropping, selecting and pasting, and exploration of all the options menus, but no luck.  Creating a new playlist in the new library and then clicking on the "Add To" button opens up a window into which to drop dragged songs/folders from the new library listing, but simultaneously closes the left-hand display window with all of my iPod's current playlists depicted.
I appear successfully to have backed up my iPod to the new computer, but all the sync menu options are grayed out.  When I tried clicking on the Sync button, I got a warning that syncing to the new library would erase everything from the old library -- presumably obliterating my playlists with it.  I have about a dozen different playlists, some of them with several hundred songs, drawn from a library of a few thousand individual items.  Is there some means of importing/transferring the old playlists to the new computer/library, so that I don't manually have to drag and drop hundreds and hundreds of songs into a new set of playlists?  Am I overlooking something really obvious or simple?  Can I safely turn on Home Sharing and then import or paste the old playlists into the new computer's library.  I don't think I'm too much of a Luddite, but given the size of my library I'm very leery of turning on Home Sharing (to the old Pentium computer) after I've successfully transferred over many GBs of content from the old machine to the new.
    Thanks very much --

  • Disabled iPod Touch, and originatting computer gone.

My iPod Touch has been disabled. (My kid tried to get into it). The computer I originally linked it to has been stolen. How do I restore my iPod Touch, and keep the content stored- it has all my pix that were on the computer that was stolen. Appreciate any advice. Thanks, and Happy New
    Year!!

greetings QueenSher, and welcome to Apple discussions.
i assume you have a new computer then ? try this:
    1) to prevent a sync when plugging in the iPod - hold down the option and the command ( on a PC that would be the shift and ctrl ) keys when plugging in the ipod - keep pressing the keys until the iPod is listed under the devices list in iTunes.
    2) check this post by Zevoneer to retrieve files from your iPod.

  • IPod Touch and New PC

My computer died, and I have a new one now, and I can not figure out how to copy the music from my iPod to my new computer, and it won't sync with my new computer with out erasing all my music.

    - Transfer iTunes purchases:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    - Transfer other music by using a thirdparty program like one of those discussed here:
    Copy music
    - When everything is on the computer, connect the iPod to the compute and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
    - Restore the iPod from that backup.
Note that the backup that iTunes makes does not include media like apps, music and other items synced to the iPod.

  • Problem with Ipod Touch and new software (2.2.1)

After upgrading to the 2.2.1 I have been unable to listen to it using my car stereo. It will only recognize my ipod sometimes and when it does a majority of the time there will be no sound at all. On my car stereo it shows my playlists and everything but no sound. I never once had a problem with my ipod or stereo until I did this upgrade. I tried switching out the usb cord but that did not help. I then restored my Ipod. I also tried to wipe out the battery completely and then charge (heard on a different message board that that could possibly help). Still having the problem though. I have an Ipod touch and a Pioneer stereo with the USB cable hook up.

yeah i'm having the same problem i have a pioneer navigation system and it will not play my ipod touch after upgrading to 2.2 i called apple to try to find a way to downgrade and they never gave me an answer

  • Transfer playlists and content from iPod Touch to new computer

I was trying to search for old answers on this topic, but instead the system is forcing me to create a new post.
My old laptop crashed, and the backup I had of my iTunes was outdated.  I have more current music and playlists on my iPod Touch than are available to back up from my external hard drive, including a playlist I created for my dad's funeral.  I DO NOT WANT TO LOSE IT.  I spent hours and hours creating it, and ripping music for it, and facing losing it if I sync my iPod really hurts.  I am afraid to connect my iPod Touch to my new laptop for fear of losing that playlist and the music I ripped from his CD collection to create it.
Can someone please help me to back up my content, including my playlists and rippled music (and ideally apps and other content) from my iPod Touch to the new laptop?  (I also have voice mails in an app on my iPod from a friend who died shortly after my dad, and I don't want to risk losing those, either, as they are the only way I have of hearing his voice.)
Again, because my old laptop crashed between backups, I do not have the option of backing up the iTunes data from the old computer and transferring it that way.  I have to get it off the Touch somehow and get it back into iTunes on the new laptop.
(I hate Apple for making what should be super easy so hard!  Why is data transfer one-way only, from computer to device?  And how can I be certain my iPod Touch won't be erased and set to the content on the computer if I connect it??)
Thank you to anyone who can help me!

  • Changed computers and needing to sync my iPod Touch to new computer

My iPod Touch was used on my old iMac and now I am connecting it to my new iMac. I want to move my current songs from my iPod to my new iMac but I can't figure out how to do it.

Why not use Migration assistant to move the entire itunes over so you will be syncing as normal from the new computer?

  • Trying to move iPod touch to new computer.  iTunes library from old computer already on external hard drive.  Don't want to lose playlists, apps, etc.  Help?

I am trying to move iPod touch to a new computer.  My iTunes library was already on a 1 TB external hard drive.  I downloaded iTunes on my new computer, plugged in my external hard drive with my iTunes library, and changed my iTunes media folder location (preferences-advanced) to my external hard drive location. But now all my songs are "checked" (all were not before) and none of my old playlists are present.  When I plug in my iPod touch to the new computer, it asks if I want to erase and sync.  I do not want to lose my playlists, apps, etc.  How do I move over to my new cpmputer without erasing my iPod and losing stuff?

Forgot to add, my iPod touch is backed up on iCloud

  • Transferring iPod Touch to new computer

I used to have my iPod Touch 2nd gen synced with my Dell XPS M140 laptop, and it crashed the week before Christmas. Thankfully, I got a Macbook Pro for Christmas (I've been wanting a Mac for years). I got the laptop working again, but I had to reformat it completely so it's like a new computer. I want to sync my iPod touch with my Mac, but I have songs on it that weren't purchased in iTunes and so I don't want to erase and sync for fear of losing all of them. I also got an iPad for Christmas as well and only have my iTunes purchased songs on it. Does anyone know how I can transfer my songs from my iPod touch to my Mac so that I can have it synced with it?

You can use an ipod to Mac transfer program to help.I personally use this Mac iPod to iPod/Computer/iTunes Transfer. It helps me to copy my Music, Movie, Photo, ePub, PDF, Audiobook, Voice Memo, Camera Roll, Podcast and TV Show etc from ipod to Mac directly and safely. It works well for me,you can give it a try.
For Windows, please refer to iPod to PC Transfer.
    Good luck.
