IPod Touch and the "erase this ipod and sync" message
Not the normal question about music...
I recently rebuilt my laptop and reloaded the OS. I installed iTunes 9.02 (previously 9.01) and reloaded all my music. I totally forgot about my e-mail on the iPod Touch. I had originally configured the e-mail on the iPod and have never synced e-mail or contacts between the iPod and the computer. I connected the iPod and received the "erase this ipod and sync" message. I am not concerned about the music since I have already replaced it all in iTunes, but I am very concerned with my e-mail and Safari bookmarks. Does anyone know if these will be erased too?
Thanks for any help you can give me,
Alan
E-mail is not synced to iphone at all. It is accessed from the server just as with the e-mail program on the computer, so there is nothing to lose.
As long as you have at least one unique contact on the new computer, you should get the option to merge the data.

My iPod Touch is a 6.1.6
I got it as a gift a couple years ago, so I'm not sure exactly what generation it is. My iPod Touch will not connect to iTunes or my computer, and the "on this iPod" tab is also gone. I can't put anything new onto it and I can't take anything old off of it! This just happened recently as well, as it was working fine up until a couple months or so ago. What can I do?iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X
Or
See
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
- I would start with
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components
- Then do the other actions of:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
paying special attention to item #5
- New cable and different USB port
- Run this and see if the results help with determine the cause

I have some music content in my itunes library that I do not want to sync with my ipod touch. The content has previously been synced and I want to remove it without deleting it from my itunes library. Is this possible?
Hi Pez,
iTunes in the Cloud is not iCloud. Any songs that you have purchased but have not downloaded (or have deleted), go to iTunes in the cloud. The setting I mentioned will show all of your purchases in the various views in the Music app, whether they are on your device or not. If you turn that setting off, you will only see items that are actually on your device.
Glad to hear the second sync worked! But if they all start appearing again, make sure that setting is turned off
Cheers,

how can I unlock my ipod touch? The screen is locked and has various languages on the sliding bar. the screen is grey and the normal screen saver is gone.
As a first attempt, try a reboot by holding both the power and home buttons untl the apple logo appears and it restarts, ignoring the red slider if that appears.

I reset my iPod touch, now the logo blinks on and off screen with no response
I reset my iPod touch, now the logo blinks on and off screen with no response
Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

found out i can't update ipod touch 4th generation to ios7 which is now required to use facetime. have used facetime for several years with family now can't use. Apple should not take away the capabilities you already have paid for!!
No correct, you do not need iOS for FaceTime. You only needed to update to iOS 6.1.6.
Unable to make or receive FaceTime calls after April 16, 2014

I bought a second ipod touch 4g for my daughter for Christmas amonth ago. I wanted to be sure it was Ok so
I "tested" it by signing up with the same Apple ID and password as MY touch. I assumed it would not be a major
problem to "clear" it so my daughter could set it up with her own account (Apple ID/email and password). I am
unsure HOW to do this. I have read several articles but none seem to be very clear. I do not want to cause any
"damage" to MY touch such as messing up my apps and itunes library. Any advice?Yes, you stop using the same Apple ID under Settings > iCloud.

i lost my ipod on the bus im only 13 and my freinds called it and someone answered it and said this is my ipod now and i cried plz help
- If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
- You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have to iPod play a sound via iCloud.
- Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
- There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it.
- Apple will do nothing

Can I trade out my 4th Gen Ipod Touch, for the 5th Gen Ipod Touch?
I have an Ipod Touch 4th Gen that I bought in April with the warranty, and I was wondering if I could trade it in for the Ipod Touch 5 and pay a much smaller amount for it.
On Amazon.com, you can: http://www.amazon.com/gp/search/s/ref=tradeinavs?url=rh%3Dn%3A2226766011%26i%3De lectronics-tradein&field-keywords=iPod&Go.x=17&Go.y=13

Hi, This is the first Apple product I've ever owned and could really use anyone's help. Please do not be blunt and to the point, I need lots of detail and some steps in order to understand what I need to do Thank you!
if you want to add songs they must be checked, put them in asong list as it makes them easier to manage

I need to transfer the music off of my ipod onto my mac but i cannot do that when my macbook will not recognize my ipod touch in the finder.
This is correct. It will not show in finder. It is not an external storage device.
The music sync is one way - computer to ipod. The only exception is itunes purchases. Open itunes connect ipod, do not sync, click File>Transfer Purchases -
Ipod touch 4th gen needed a new screen and sleep/wake switch. So, I replace them. I was able to get to settings and do "erase all content and settings". I am not able to totally shut this device off as it keeps restarting after a few seconds. I have used itunes to restore and also recover. Device will actually shut off and stay shut off if I leave it connected to the computer. The moment I unplug (3 seconds) the apple logo appears, it boots, unlock screen appears, I can unlock and operate normally, unplugged or not. Just cant get it to completely shut down unplugged. Any thoughts?

Apple will not help since you worked on the iPod yourself. -
Trying to sync ipod with itunes library, but I keep getting this message, " The ipod is synced with another itunes library. Do you want to erase this ipod and sync with this i tunes library?"
I do not want to erase my ipod!!! Any suggestions?? please help!Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive (works the same with an SD card) into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)
