IPOD Touch and Vista

Has anybody found a way round sync'n an IPOD Touch with Windows Calendar in Vista. It is frustrating when I am FORCED to use Vista at work and I choose to use Apple (Ipod in this case) at home that the two won't work together. I bet the Apple team could fix this in 5 minutes if Mr Jobs gave the order. Can anybody help.

Vista requires that you have sufficient permission to install anything. If you are not logged in as the Admin, then you could have problems. However, your problem sounds like a classic "blocked by the firewall" problem. Your touch needs to phone home to Apple during the update process. It does this through specific ports via the internet. Depending on your firewall and firewall settings, if these ports are blocked, you get what you saw.
Normally, I suggest that PC users shut off their firewall/anti-virus for firmware upgrades unless you know how to create the exceptions in your firewall to allow communication.

  • IPod Touch and Vista Ultimate won't get along

I recently purchased an iPod Touch 16gb and have had some major issues ever since. THis is long winded but that's because without all details I think peopel will tell me to do what i've already tried.
When I first connected the device up I was prompted to update my iTunes and this completed successfully. Then when loading my music onto the device i got a few errors saying "The iPd cannot be synced. The disk could not be read from or written to." and then "Attempting to copy to disk 'xxx' failed. The disk could not be read from or written to. It sounded like a hard disk error but I persevered and managed to get my music loaded.
Then everything was going to fine for a while until one day I'd left my iPod attached to my PC (Vista Ultimate 32bit) overnight to charge and when I took it to work that day I found that all my music and videos had disapeared. I did some searching and this seemed to have happened to others.
When I got home and attached the iPod to my computer I was prompted to do a restore. So I kicked this off but part way through I received an error saying "The iPod could not be restored. An unknown error occured (9)." And that was it. Dead iPod. It wouldn't turn on and wasn't recognised anymore apart from windows saying "USB Device Not Recognised". Apple replaced this for me thinking it was a hardware problem.
Unfortunately I had the same problems with the next one. This time however I uninstalled and reinstalled all my apple applications (iTunes, Mobile Device, Quicktime etc.) as mentioned on the support pages. Unfortunately it didn't solve the problem. Once again I recieved the same errors and my music disapeared. This time I did a restore using the iPod menu and that was successful but then I kept getting the sync and write errors so once again I tried a iTunes restore and same again... dead iPod and back to Apple for my 3rd iPod.
I've now got my third one and am having the same issues. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the apple products many times, updated my USB drives and windows is completely to date. I've also created another user in Vista and get the same problem. I have a feeling this has something to do with the Apple Mobile Device Support but am not too sure as i've unistalled and reinstalled it a number of times.
Any advice or tips appreciated before I brick my 3rd touch and ask for a refund!

  • IPod Touch and Windows Vista 64bit

I got a new IPod Touch and when I try to connect it I get a window with this message:
"This iPod cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install the 64-bit version of iTunes"
    Where is the 64-bit version!!!!!!!!

No 64 bit version yet. I got multiple iPod Touch devices for my family for Christmas last month from the Apple store. I asked in the store if they would work with 64 bit Vista and was told yes. The box says Vista. I'm considering trying to get them to take them all back, since all my machines in my house are Vista 64 bit.
To the people that point at the iTunes compatibility list: well, that's not printed on the side of my iPod box, and was told by the Apple guys it would work.
To the people that say 64 bit Vista doesn't work with many programs: Find me one. As all of my companies 383 apps certfied on it, and everything I run at home works just fine.
It's been out OVER a year (XP 64 bit has been around for YEARS). Come on Apple! Give us a 64 bit driver!

  • Why does my Windows Vista computer say the wrong iPod Touch name? I have multiple iPod Touches and after updating one of them, Windows Explorer says they are all the same name now.

Sorry for the exceedingly long title...
I have multiple iPod touches, and I just updated one of them to the newest iOS (5.0.1). Now whenever I plug in any of the others, the name of the one I updated appears in Windows explorer. How can I make Windows able to determine which iPod is which again?
    64 bit vista home premium.

iPod Classic are high drain USB devices, I hope you are not trying to connnect them simultaneously to iTunes, which will definitely hang your USB Host controller, thereby freeze iTunes.
But here is an Apple Support Article on using multiple iPods for iTunes.

  • How come my iPod touch AND my iPhone will no longer sync with my iTunes?

Did you do eveyrthing in the following:
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
Including removing and reinstalling all the Apple software by:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
The above include a link for XP
Do you have another cable to try?  The charging and data use different conductors/contacts so it may still charge with a bad cable.

  • Question for iPod Touch/Windows Vista Users

Has any other Vista users out there had any problems syncing?
As long as I don't sync large amounts of data, it works fine...but when I sync a lot of songs at once, or just 1 full length movie, I get playback problems. Some songs will skip and stutter, but that can usually be fixed by recopying the songs individually. Movies (even ones downloaded from iTunes) will not play all the way through. They will either crash and take me back to the videos menu, or they will reset the iPod Touch. Because movies are so large, simply resyncing them will not solve the problem.
I have tried resetting and restoring the iPod Touch, and reinstalling iTunes, and nothing has corrected this problem. I don't think it is a problem with the iPod Touch, because this doesn't happen when I sync using a friend's Windows XP computer.
Has this happened to anyone else? Any thoughts on how to solve this problem?
Thanks in advance for your help:)

I have the exact same problem - point for point, my iPod touch is doing exactly as you described. I have tried all sorts of things, but to no avail.
You added a new USB card to your machine, and that has solved the problem? May I ask if you still use your original 'onboard' USB for all of your other peripherals, leaving the new USB card for just your iPod? perhaps it was one of your other peripherals that was causing the problem. Just a thought, but I am certainly glad to hear that the problem is solvable. USB cards aren't very expensive, perhaps I should go invest in one to see if it solves the problem for me too.
    Thanks!

  • Ipod Touch and Windows 7 sync/visibility issues Issues

    Hi All
Just wondering if anyone knows when Apple intend to fix the ongoing problem with Ipod touch and windows 7 sync problems.
I have just got windows 7 64 bit from Vista 64 Bit. I had no problems before the clean install.
Now I have to close my pc down before I attach my pod for sync, when it shows up on itunes it only syncs twenty or so tracks before it "times out" the pc freezes untill i cancel the sync on the ipod and disconnect it.
I have tried like many other people to re-install itunes the latest version 9.02 (i think). I have also ran the diagnsotic check from itunes and that just shows that no Ipod is connected. Itunes itself runs and downloads ok.

  • I purchased an Ipod touch and the instuctions told me to go to Itunes download and everything seemed to be going fine until the message came up that a program that itunes needs to run is being used.  I have never had I tunes on this computer.

I purchased an Ipod touch and when I tried to download 10.5, it stop loading and gave an error message, A program it needs to run is being used by another program.  What will fix this problem.  I am running Vista and this is my first time trying to download ITunes.  The only Apple device that has been connected is my wife's I Phone 3G.

  • 101 Problems with my iPod Touch and iTunes...Almost

It really feels like I have 101 problems with my iPod touch and iTunes.
For some time now my iPod Touch have been using alot of batterypower and the battery is often discharged very fast. It discharges alot faster now than when I brought the Touch.
Also when I plug the iPod Touch to my computer it doesn't charge, it does the oposite of that, it's disharges and it does that ALOT faster than normal
There is also a problem regarding connecting the iPod Touch to iTunes. It doesn't connect to iTunes directly after I have plugged it in. It feels really random and it lives it own life it seems like.
If I accomplish to connect ut to iTunes it doesn't sync every single time. The computer / iPod Touch hangs and nothing happens. Soemtimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, like I said before - It feels really random!
Now to a BBIIGG problem. A week ago my girlfriend changed my password on my iPod Touch. When she typed the password into the login screen, it failed, she had forgotten the password / she thought that she picked that password when she changed it. Anywho, I didn't panic becuase I knew that I could lock it up by iTunes.
But, iTunes gives me a error while trying to restore the iPod Touch saying that there is no update avaiable and after that nothing happens. I tried to do the Sleep / Power + Home trick to set the iPod Touch into a recovery mode but iTunes gave me a unknown error.
I tried to update iTunes from my version to the new 8.0 version but when I do so it gives me a error saying that iTunes.msi can not be found and it can't uninstall the previous version :S
So, now I have a unusable iPod Touch, I can't do nothing with it.
    Like I said, It's really feels like I have 101 problems ;D.
Lucky I have my old iPod so I can listen to Music :P

Let me know what you are running.

  • I have an ipod touch and want to purchase an ipad can i use one account

I have an Ipod touch and want to purchase an ipad.  Can the same account be used.  Can my purchases on my ipod touch be synced to my ipad?

the only limits you'll face is if any of your iPod touch apps are for the iPhone only, they'll show up as tiny in the middle of the screen. There'll be a 2X button that'll allow you to zoom it up...some look better than others. All depends on how high resolution they are made.
Other apps will be in the app store with a + by them, those are universal and scale to fit the screen they are displayed on. Other apps you'll need to buy the iPad version. And you'll find some apps that are iPad only.

  • I downloaded iTunes 11.4 so I could set up an iPod Touch, and now it won't open at all. Can someone please tell me how to fix it?

As mentioned - I was trying to set up an iPod Touch, and it kept telling me "open iTunes," so it dawned on me that I probably needed to update it. So I updated it, and now it just doesn't open (it bounces once, and that's it).
    For added info:
I have a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X version 10.6.8.
Technically I keep all my music on an external hard drive, but I don't think anything is corrupted (because it was working fine just before I updated it).
    Thank you.

    Hi, JEvansIII.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Try resetting your System Management Controller or SMC then launch iTunes after processing these steps.  If the issue persists, try downloading a fresh copy of iTunes by accessing the second link below.
