Ipod Touch and wireless networks

When I am at work, I need to enter the wireless password to get on the internet every time my ipod powers off.  On the other side of the building it remembers the network and I don't have to enter anything.  This is a little annoying.  Any ideas?

- Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Power off and then back on the router.

  • Connecting ipod touch to wireless network

Ipod touch can find my wireless network, and shows full strength bars for connection, however it never gets past ' connecting ' stage for any web address. It just hangs at connecting for about 10 mins, without reaching any web address. I assume the fact that it can find my wireless network, and it appeared to accept the password ok, there must be some other issue, any ideas ?

Make sure the security key which you are using to connect to your Wireless Network on your IPhone is same as of your Router. It might be due to Incorrect security key used to connect to your wireless network or your IPhone is not accepting the higher level of security Key.
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...Leave Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
    Click on the Wireless tab
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Below change the Security Mode to WEP or WPA Persoanl.  If you have set the Security on your Router to WEP then you need to use "Key 1" password to connect to your Wireless Network on your IPhone along with the "$" sign ($1234567890)
If you have set the security on your Router to WPA then use your Password to connect to your Wireless Network. These should make your IPhone go Online Wirelessly.

  • TRANSFERING MUSIC FROM PC TO IPOD TOUCH THROUGH WIRELESS NETWORK

I left my connection cable that connects my pc to my ipod at work. I have some music that I would like to transfer from my pc to ipod. Is it possible to do this without the cable? The music was on cd's and not bought in itunes. I think I saw a post somewhere about mentioning that if it was bought in itunes you could do this. Since this is not the case is it still possible? Please help! I have the ipod touch 2nd generation and a pc running vista.

No, you cannot sync music wirelessly.

  • I am new to IPod touch and really enjoying it.  BUT.  All of a sudden I am unable to connect to my home wireless network nor any hot spots.  Did not have any trouble in 1st month and yet something seems to have changed.  Any suggestions as to what ?

I am new to IPod Touch and enjoying but all of a sudden (after about a month of connection) I am unable to connect to either my home wirless or hotspots outside of home.  It would appear that a setting has changed but have no idea how to determine.  Any suggestions ?

NO I did not and thank you very much for the advice.  My problem was stated incorrectly in that while I am able to connect to the wireless from that point on I am unable to connect to the internet.  I will check the article referred to.

  • MacBook loses wireless connection when iPod touch connects to network

    hi
ever since upgrading to 10.5.5. on my MacBook i've had the "intermittent network connection" problems that have been described and discussed (without any real solution from what i can see) in another thread.
PROBLEM: every couple of minutes my MacBook loses connectivity to the network - the AirPort icon still says that i'm connected, albeit with one less bar than before, but i can't connect to anywhere, not even to the wireless router - and to re-establish a connection i need to switch off AirPort, switch it back on, it will then reconnect, and after two minutes or so i have to do it all over again because the network connection drops again.
NOVEL OBSERVATION 1: reinstalling the 10.5.5. combo system updater helped somewhat. i used to get an error in system.log about there being too many state transitions on the wireless network and about network traffic reduction measures being taken to overcome this problem, but after reinstalling the 10.5.5. combo system updater this message never appears in the logs and I get kicked off only sometimes (see what i say in point 2 below)
NOVEL OBSERVATION 2: now my MacBook will only lose its connection to the net if i switch on my iPod Touch and switch its wireless interface on. in fact, the only way to avoid the MacBook getting constantly disconnected is to make sure that the wireless interface on the Touch is switched off in the Touch's system preferences; if I just sleep the Touch (top button) without switching off its wireless network interface first in its System Preferences, then the MacBook will keep disconnecting even while the Touch is in sleep mode (presumably the Touch keeps polling the network or something, even while it's in sleep mode).
DIAGNOSTIC NOTE 1: I have another wireless device (my Nokia E51, which has wifi capabilities) and if I connect it to the wireless interface then the MacBook's connection isn't dropped - i.e. the MacBook only loses its wireless connection when my iPod Touch connects to the wireless network.
DIAGNOSTIC NOTE 2: I have upgraded my wireless router (before I had a Linksys WRT-54GC, now I have a Netgear WGR614v9) but that has made no difference.
DIAGNOSTIC NOTE 3: I have also tried altering the router's settings (i have played around a_lot with this, trying every combination I could think of - e.g. staple down particular devices to particular ip addresses, use only 802.11g versus automatic b/g, etc) but that has made no difference either.
    RANT:
The only thing that prevents these disconnections from occurring is to keep the iPod Touch's wireless switched off, which ***** because if I'm in the kitchen I can't have it switched on to monitor my email (yes, I've no life, i hang around waiting for emails), or if I go have a lie down and want to check out stuff on the net, or to browse the iTunes music store or whatever, then I know that my connecting my iPod Touch the computer will be disconnected.
This obviously *****, right? And a lot of people are having wireless problems with their MacBooks, right? And these problems seem to have been around for over a year, right?
So why hasn't Apple solved this problem yet? Or am I just being melodramatic?
Your thoughts on any or all of the above, or flames if that's your preferred method of communicating, are invited. =)
    Cheers

Having the same problem here. As a first time mac user, Apple has certainly made a bad first impression.
For me, the issue seems to occur when transferring files between computers that are connected to the same access point (when transferring files from wired computers on the network there is no issue). My vista laptop and every laptop I have tried has worked perfectly fine with this access point so I am 100% convinced it is the mac. Basically when I copy the files, after about 100mb, I am unable to access anything on the local network or internet until I restart Airport. The weird thing is that even though I am unable to access anything, the airport utility says it is connected. I might also note that the wireless signal strength is full.
If I can't get this figured out in a few days, this computer is going back to the store where it came from and I will officially label myself anti-mac. This type of issue is just unacceptable for something so main stream.

  • Just got a new IPOD Touch and it wont connect to our Wifi home network with a Belken N Router. Our router uses WEP 64 bit security, but had a "blank" password field, which the IPOD did not like. Changing to a 6 char numeric PW didnt help either.

OS is whatever OS ships with current IPOD Touch
I cannot understand why the APPLE engineers have designed this product so that it has SO MANY WIFI problems.  This is supposed to be an easy-to-use product.  We've had no problems connecting our new laptop, our ROKU box, etc, but it seems impossible to get the IPOD touch to work.  NOTHING LIKE SPENDING XMAS MORNING DOING APPLE TECH SUPPORT TROUBLESHOOTING TO LEAVE YOU IN THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT!!!  Argh!
In fact, the only way we have been able to get this expensive brand new IPOD to work on our home network is to DISABLE SECURITY in the router settings.  THIS IS ANYTHING BUT A GOOD IDEA.
DON"T KNOW WHY BUT MANY OTHER USERS ARE REPORTING THE SAME KIND OF PROBLEM SO APPLE ENGINEERING NEEDS TO GET BUSY AND FIX THIS PROBLEM SO THAT NEW USERS CAN CONNECT TO THE INTERNET WITHOUT HAVING TO BE TRAINED ROUTER ENGINEERS TO DO IT!!!!
Ok, sorry for the rant, but surely those of you who are experiencing this share my frustration.  This is not why I bought an APPLE product.
IS THERE ANY POSSIBILITY THAT APPLE WILL NOT ALLOW A WIFI PASSWORD with more than one identical alphanumeric character?  Any ideas?  We also tried eliminating the 40 MHZ setting under Bandwidth settings in the router settings for our router, but it made no difference.  The router has the latest firmware, too.  Running out of ideas, and am ready to box this unit up and send it back!

Thanks, Bob!  You are correct.  And, we learned this as we spoke with APPLE TECH SUPPORT by phone on Christmas day (800-APL-CARE).  One of their reps spent the time to help us troubleshoot this, but the boiled down conclusion is your answer, and to repeat for the benefit of others, here is what worked:
    1. With our Belkin router set to "out-of-the-box" WEP 64 bit security, we could not get wireless access of any kind.  Only with the Security Mode set to DISABLED, could we gain access.
    2. Changing the router's security mode setting to "WPA/WPA-2...." and entering a new min. 8 char passphrase, and then entering that same passphrase into the IPOD Touch, and restarting the router, did the trick!
Based on this, and some info found in another posting, I can only conclude that the IPODs and IPHONES do not support WEP security mode in many generic routers used by thousands of consumers.  Hopefully, those same consumers can figure out how to change their wireless router setttings to WPA/WPA-2 security mode and ALSO get all their other wireless devices (PCs, laptops, WII boxes, ROKU boxes) all reconfigured to WPA mode, too.
I THINK THE BOTTOM LINE HERE IS THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE THAT APPLE NEEDS TO ADDRESS WITH WEP COMPATIBILITY and it may also be the case that MOST CONSUMERS ARE USING WEP 64 BIT security on their home wireless routers?
In any case, it's working now, so anyone who is having problems should try changing to WPA mode and post back here if it worked for them!

  • IPod Touch (and iPhone) can't find Belkin N Wireless Router

I spent over an hour looking for an answer to this problem today and accidently found a solution - so am posting the answer.
Have a 2 year old Belkin N Wireless Router (model F5D8236-4v1) with SSID broadcasting on and WPA/WPA2-Personal (PSK) security selected.
All the Windows laptops in the house could see the wireless SSID and could successfully log in after entering the WPA/WPA2 password.
Both iPod Touch and iPhone 3GS could NOT see the SSID. Also entering the wireless router IP address directly instead of the SSID did NOT work.
After an hour of looking for solutions on-line, including:
    - Tried no security
    - Tried WEP 64 and 128 bit security
then stumbled across a thread in a forum where someone referred to changing a "-" (dash) in an SSID name to a character. So tried this.
The old SSID name includes spaces - "name name1 name2". I deleted the spaces, and the problem was solved.
This Belkin router comes with a default name of BelkinN_WirelessXXXXXX, but does not say in the online help to NOT use spaces in the SSID name. And again, the Windows laptops could see the wireless Router while it had the SSID name INCLUDING the spaces in the name.
Hope this saves at least one person going through the same wasted hour.

Click on the blue arrow to the right of the network name, if IP address starts with "169." ,restart your router. It should connect properly after your router reboots in a minute or two.

  • WRT54GC Wireless router problem with iPod touch and Ipad

    Hi
I have a WRT54GC wireless router and both my ipod touch and ipad can connect to the network. They can both use the internet for like one minute and then the internet becomes very slow, and dies. Network connections are lost and I'm getting messages like 'can't connect to itunes' or 'lost connection with youtube'. The wireless router works fine for the laptops in the house (all windows). In the house where I live in the week (closer to my school) there is another router and i don't have the problem over there, also no problem to connect to my schools wireless network... So I think it's a combination problem of apple products and that router. I've tried a lot, like resetting network configuration, updating firmware, changing from wpa to wep1,... Anyone an idea?
    Thank you
    Bert

oh and the connection to the router isn't lost.
    Thank you

Disabling the computer's security software (firewall and antivirus) usually resolves that error.

From your wired computer, Open setup page of router by typing http://192.168.1.1 in browser’s address bar, and typing password as "admin" and no user name. Goto wireless tab, and wireless security sub tab. Check security key here, and you can disable it as well.
I tried this and it went to a redish gray page that said "401 Unauthorized Authorization required" Help please?
It means you entered the wrong password or username, try some other passwords you might have used if the default admin doesn't work.

Does the iOS device connect to other networks?
Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router

  • Use G4 Modem and Wireless to turn IPOD touch into wireless phone?

Has anybody tried this? I bought a G4 off the ebay a while back to see if I even wanted to switch to a MAC. No I have a MAC mini and now a MAC Book Pro.
An 130GIG old IPOD 32GB Ipod Touch and a version 1 IPhone, it all started I guess with the Iphone.
The G4 has a modem built in. It would be cool to have an app on the Ipod that connect over the WAN and I could answer the phone with the IPOD touch or maybe an Iphone. The G4 could even act as an answering machine. Any ideas?

It isn't possible to turn it into a phone. You can use apps such as Skype, or FaceTime, but they are in no way a suitable replacement for a real phone.
