IPod Touch & App Store - Updating to 2.0 through several computers

I currently have an ipod touch (version 1.1.3). I want to be able to browse through the app store on my ipod, so i figure I need to buy the $9.99 update to get version 2.0. I know I do this through iTunes. My laptop at home (where I have my library stored) is acting a little funny and I'm thinking of buying a new one. I was thinking of purchasing the update and syncing my ipod through my desktop computer at work. If I ever encounter any problems with my ipod in the future where I need to reset it, how can I get that update and sync it to my laptop at home without having to repurchase it (are there specific files that get downloaded to a directory on the computer that can be transferred to a different computer?)

yeah i got mine 2ed hand and the first thing i did was a fullrestore of the firmware and it put 2.0.0 on it back then without any charge
so as no ipod touch 1g was ever sold with 2.0.0 the guy I bougth it from had
payed for it and the firmware followed/ was tied to the ipod touch

  • How to skip updates on iTunes store and iPod touch App store???

    Hi all!!!
I would like to know how can I skip an updated APP? The game PacMan has been
updated and people had problems with it (slow) and I just wana skip it but there isn't
any way that I know of to remove that "1" update number and it's the same thing on my
iPod Touch App Store icon still has that red 1 on it and want to remove without resulting
    to update the program.
    Any help welcomed!!!!
    PS: 1st Gen Touch

I was just researching the same! No results yet.
To be honest: this is a patyful thing in the UI of iOS. I can no longer tap "update all" since there are some I don't want to update.
P.S. Even Microsoft Windows 7 lets users to "hide updates" that one doesn't want so the OS updates never annoy again. How come iOS fail?

  • IPod Touch App Store no longer can find updates

This is real frustrating, and short of reformatting my iPod (which I am NOT going to do) I haven't been able to get this thing to work anymore. I tried turning WiFi off and on, logging out and then back into my itunes account, closing all running programs, rebooting, syncing to iTunes, etc.
It started about 2-3 days ago, I had about 5 apps that had updates, but I didn't choose to update just yet. Anyway, when I did want to update last night, the App Store was now saying that there are no updates.
The WiFi connection is working fine, I can still search apps in the App Store and install them, but the update feature appears to be broken now. When I go to updates it searches for a few seconds then claims "All Apps Are Up to Date" when I am fully aware that they are NOT.
Any idea what could be causing this issue and how to fix it?

Did the Apps get updated in your iTunes on your computer, which was then Synced with your Touch, and that's why they're no longer showing up?
If not, a couple of things you could do as a test:
    1. In your iTunes/Apps library, click on the *Check for updates* button and see if anything happens.
+Of course, the original 5 Apps may not show up if they're now up to date, and there maybe "other" Apps that appear on the list to replace those. Nothing we can do about that. However, if you are still convinced there are Apps requiring updates, try the next thing:+
    2. Look at the Apps in your iTunes library using the *As list* view. Make sure the version column is showing. Check the version number against the version shown in the Store for that App. I realise this could be a long process if you have a lot of Apps. If so, the last option is:
    3. Do nothing. A check will be automatically made each time you acces the Store via the Touch's Wi-Fi, so any updates will appear at another time. And you can manually click the *Check for updates* button in your computer's iTunes whenever you wish.
I suppose it's possible that an update may get pulled if the developer realises there is still a problem - or even, a worse problem than before. I've never known that to happen, but it's either that or it remains one of life's great mysteries.

  • White Screen on iPod Touch app store, NOT ITUNES.

I have an iPod Touch 4th Generation running on iOS 6 and the App Store application recently stopped working on it. Everything else is running perfectly, it still has internet connection and everything, but nothing will load on the App Store. When you open the application it's just a white screen, no loading circle or anything, you can click on the five categories on the bottom still (Featured, Charts, Genius, Search, and Updates), but they are all just a white screen, with the exception of the "Search" option. When you go to search, everything is still white, but the gray search bar is still available and when you type in items it still auto finds matches for the keyword you're searching, but when you actually press search, nothing happens.
I heard restoring the iPod might work, and that a lot of other people are having this problem, but it's happened to numerous people and I feel as if after the restore it might just come back.

Try a reset, and if that fails, try again while in the appstore. No data is erased.
    To reset the device:
Hold the power button and the home button down until the device shuts off, then power it back on and see if the problem is resolved.

  • App Store - Updating Apps Problem

Using the latest version of iTunes , if I list my apps (for my ipod touch) it tells me in the corner 7 apps need an update , yet when I click on this it says no updates are available !
I seem to be able to update these apps directly on my ipod touch app store - but I thought I'd read it was always better to download app updates to your Mac first and then sync up - rather than doing it directly .
    Any ideas ?

I have been having the same problem. I will get a list of apps that need updating and then after I update one of them all the others disappear and it says no updates. Later in the day they might appear again. But, always the same story, they all disappear after I update one of them. This didn't happen before the latest iPhone software update.

  • Do paid iPod touch apps also have paid updates?

For example, if I were to download a paid app from my iPod touch, and an update for that app is released, is the update free or is it paid for?

Depends on if the app developer chooses to charge for it or not.
So far all of my app updates have been free.

  • How come sometimes my iPod Touch gets stuck updating an app and then just deletes it?

How come sometimes my iPod Touch gets stuck updating an app and then just deletes it instead?
The update bar on the app gets stuck on empty and then the next time I sync the app gets deleted.
It is really annoying to lose all my data when updating an app, and it has happend more than once!
Any idea why it does this? I am scared to update my favorite apps for fear that they could be deleted.
    -Sam

I never had an app being deleted.  You can always udate the app on the computer and then sync.

  • Ipod touch and january update help.

    hi
i just reinstalled windows xp in my computer and i didnt back up the january updates from my itunes folder. when i synced my ipod after the reinstall it said i had to restore the ipod and after that the jan updates were gone.
someone at the apple store suggested going into itunes store and making sure i could see that i had purchased the jan updates and then scncing the ipod which i did...still didnt work.
can anyone help. the updates no longer exsist on my machine so i was hoping i could download them again without having to pay the $24.99 again or even waiting for the july 11 updates.
    help...please

If you didn't back up the "iPod touch App Pack 4A93.ipa" file before you reinstalled your OS, your apps are gone, for now. It's an iTunes Store purchase, just like any music/videos purchased, and if not backed up, it's gone if you lose/wipe your HDD.
Apple has removed the January Upgrade from the iTunes store, so spending the $19.99 to get it back is not even possible.
Your best bet at this point is to wait for the July Upgrade (coming July 11th).
    Hope this helps...
