IPod Touch - Apple Remote App Problem

Hi there,
I am having problems with getting the Apple Remote App to work with my computer.
I have installed the app on my iPod. I go to pair it with my computer and it doesnt show up in iTunes. I have the latest itunes.
My iPod will connect to my laptop (running vista)
I have disabled the firewall, and that still hasn't helped.
My computer is wired into the router using an ethernet cable.
My iPod is connected to the router using the wireless.
My computer is on a domain. Could that be some of the problem?
Thanks for the help in advance

  • IPod Touch/Apple Remote App

    Hi, all.
I am having problems setting up the Apple Remote App to use my iPod Touch as a remote with iTunes.
I have an iPod Touch 1G and am using iTunes on a Sony Vaio VGN-S5VP laptop running Windows XP Professional via a wired connection through a Netgear DG834PN router.
This is what happens when I try to use set it all up:
    1) I go to Add Library on the iPod Touch and a passcode appears;
    2) I click the name of my iPod Touch under Devices on iTunes;
    3) The Add Remote for iPhone & iPod Touch screen appears, and I enter the passcode on iTunes (so far so good…);
    4) The bar at the top of iTunes says Verifying Remote passcode;
    5) The Add Remote for iPhone & iPod Touch screen reappears.
I have a feeling (although this is really just me clutching at straws a bit) that it might have something to do with the Firewall Rules settings on the router. Inbound services are set to BLOCK always. When I try to change this to allow the iPod Touch to access, I get the screen at the following link and don’t know what settings to enter:

I would really appreciate some help!
    Thanks in advance,

  • IPod Touch Apple-made apps would hardly rotate on sunlight

    Hi everyone!
I must admit that you might think I'm crazy, but, let me tell you about the very weird behavior of my iPod Touch...
Since I updated the firmware to >2.0 (including the latest 2.1), my iPod is very reluctant to switch in landscape (or back in portrait) mode when... under direct sunlight! I leave in Japan and every morning, I leave home, walk to the subway ( ~ 15 minutes), take the train and arrive work. When I'm still at home, iPod Touch would rotate everytime I need it, in music mode, video mode, whatever. But, as soon as I go out, under direct sunlight, and for the 15 minutes walk, it would not rotate at all (while I'm walking, I'm holding it on purpose in landscape position, but the music wouldn't change to coverflow). Funny thing is... this happens only on Apple-made apps (music, video, calculator, etc.). I'm also a big fan of "Labyrinth" game and I can tell you: the accelerometer does work!!! Then, just a few minutes I move in the subway ( = not under direct synlight), rotation works again, and all the time I am really puzzled.
Well, I finally decided to post a message on this forum because firmware updates come and nothing changes. Also, I might be wrong but I really do not think it has anything to do with a hardware issue. First, because as I said, the accelerometer works great with non-Apple apps, even when I'm outside. Second, because the problem appeared JUST when I upgraded from 1.5 to 2.0. Of course, I tried to wipe-off the iPod completely and reinstall but it would still be the same. Finally, I must say that although my iPod might have been hacked at some point in the past, it is not anymore since I am very happy with the Apple Store apps.
Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks but this page doesn't help. It just says "well, try another video". But, in my case, with same video, same application, when I'm in a closed space it works, and when I'm outside, it doesn't work. And it "selectively" does not work. Easy situation would be that when outside, it doesn't work at all, for any application. But in fact, it does not work for pre-installed Apple apps, but works great for downloaded apps (like "Labyrinth" that I mentionned about).
(PS: I like the concept of the Vampire iPod!!! Maybe it was made in Transylvania?)

  • Ipod Touch 4G Remote App not working

I was able to link my ipod Touch 4 to my laptop PC's itunes library. But when I try to register it with my desktop PC, iTunes accepts the four digit code and says "Your remote is now able to control iTunes." as it did on the laptop. But on my iPod the library it set up has a blank name at it won't connect. I've verified that the firewall on my PC has the correct ports opened. I even tried it with the firewall turned off but no luck.
My desktop PC is running Windows 7 Pro and my laptop PC is running Windows 7 Home Premium. I don't know that might have anything to do with it.
My iPod is software is version 4.2.1. The Remote app is version 2.1. I've tried Forgetting all remotes on my desktop's iTunes library and re-configuring the library, still no luck.
Any idea why it will connect on one PC and not the other? Both PCs are on the same network so I doubt it has anything to do with my router.

I had a more detailed look what my Netgear router setup (WPN824) is. UPnP is turned on and it has the following rules set:
Active Protocol Int. Port Ext. Port IP Address
    YES UDP 4500 4504 192.168.0.4
    YES UDP 5353 5357 192.168.0.4
The IP address listed is my MacMini.
Anyone around who knows if additional port fowards are needed for Remote to work?

  • Apple Remote App - Keine Privatfreigabe möglich

    Hey,
    Grüße
    Heiko

Seit dem iTunes-Update auf 10.6.1.7 funktioniert die Apple Remote App nun einwandfrei. Ich hoffe den Anderen, die das selbe Problem hatten, geht es genau so.
    Grüße

I restored my ipod touch however the apps will not sync.  I tried to re-download but I changed my apple id as my old id is no longer a valid email address.  Any ideas out there please?

It might be logical to someone, but not to me. I agree it's a pain.
How did you change your Apple ID? Creating a new one is not what you want to do, but if you changed the ID associated with your purchases then that might have worked. You would need to sign in with the Apple ID on both your iPod Touch as well as in iTunes. I'm not sure how you changed it but clearly they need to match.
If it's just your password that is not getting recognized reset it here: http://iforgot.apple.com/
It will send an email confirmation to the email address associated with that Apple ID. The email address you elect to use might not look anything like your Apple ID. If you don't appear to get an email check your spam filter.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
If the iPod is defective and not abused Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one at no cost

  • I have a 4g ipod touch with tons of problems. So i was wondering if i could get it replaced at my local Apple store. But its out of warranty. How much will it cost?

I have a 4g ipod touch with tons of problems.
The home button no longer responds and when it does it takes at least 10 minutes of repeatedly clicking it.
When my ipod turns off it takes hours to a day for it to turn back on.
Should i replace it, and if so, how much will that cost?
    Is it repairable?

I do have service and repair coverage! Thank you for that link
Does that mean I can replace it for no cost or that its just for repair service?

  • Advice on Apple TV Pausing During Streaming (Apple Remote App too)

With all the talk and excitement of the new Apple TV, I'm not sure if this problem applies. I'm not sure if the new Apple TV streams movies like the old one did.
Regardless, I have had some difficulty with my 40GB Apple TV that I finally figured out after months. I'll describe my network, describe the problem and solution, and why that solution works.
    1. My network.
    I have:
an iMac connected wirelessly to an Airport Extreme
a Western Digital hard drive connected via ethernet to my Extreme. My movie library is here
an newer airport express (N) connected to my stereo on the main floor
an older airport express (G) connected in the basement with my XBOX connected to it via ethernet
an Apple TV in the basement.
    2. The problem
When I'm streaming movies, it often works just fine. However, sometimes, during a movie, the playback pauses as if Apple TV needs to re-cache the movie or something. It will pause for about 10 seconds or so then keep playing. When it starts to play again, the movie jumps forward the 10 seconds to the current playing point. This then works for anywhere from another 30 seconds to several minutes. When this pausing occurs, if you click the Apple remote to bring up the status bar, you can see the timeline of the movie continue to move along. Then, other times, the whole thing will somehow cure itself and start working again.
Unrelated but later found to be related problem with Apple remote on iPod touch
Sometimes, trying to connect to my iTunes library, it couldn't connect and I'd get the message that my firewall is getting in the way. You'll see as it turns out, this isn't the problem.
    How I found the solution
When this pausing occured, I would unplug the Airport Express in the basement. This is the one the XBOX is connected to. After a couple of seconds, I'd plug it back in. On the TV screen, it would revert back to the movie list and show that there were no movies to play. Then, after a couple of seconds, my movie list would reappear. I'd restart my movie and it would work just fine.
    Here's what was happening
Somehow, I configured my Airport Express router in the basement to be an extention of the network The problem is that the Express in the basement was G speed and not N speed (I think that was the problem). Sometimes, Apple TV would connect to the Express router in the basement rather than my Airport Extreme router upstairs. When this happened, the pausing during streaming would occur. This also makes sense now that the movie list would briefly disappear when I'd unplug my Airport Express in the basement. The connection would be lost but then a few seconds later, Apple TV would find Airport Extreme and reconnect. Then it would work perfectly.
I also noticed two separate networks coming up when I did a network scan. I would fire up my WIndows laptop and do a network search. I would get two separate instances of 'Mynet'. One would be N speed and the other would be G speed. This now also makes sense since one of them was my Express and the other was my Extreme.
    The solution
I did two things. I swapped the two Express routers so I had the N speed router in the basement connected to the XBOX. I also configured the network so it was 'all the same network'. Now, when I do a network scan on my Windows laptop, I no longer get the two separate instances of 'Mynet' coming up.
Since then, I have never had a problem streaming movies nor have I had a problem with my Apple Remote app on my iPod Touch.

    I'm having similar problem.
    My set up:
iTunes running on my MacBook C2D, 2GB RAM
Movie contents are in an external USB2.0 HDD (7200rpm) attached to Airport Extreme (802.11n)
Typical movie content is mp4 file with 1.8mbps bitrate.
When my MB is completely idling state, ATV gets data w/o pausing.
When MB is doing some task (web browsing, etc), no problem.
When iTunes starts downloading some video podcasts (to MB, not syncing to ATV).... the movie streamed to ATV gets paused and gets into the same state as gjbonnington described.
    Any idea how to solve??

  • Can 2 teachers share an ipod touch and put apps on it with two itune accounts

Can 2 teachers share an ipod touch and put apps on it with two itune accounts?

    Sure.  No problem.
Be aware that ALL purchases are permanently associated with whatever Apple ID was used to originally obtain them.  Apps can not be updated without knowledge of that ID and, more importantly, its password.  Apple IDs can not be merged and purchases can not be transferred from one ID to another.
Minor nuisance if you choose to update apps from inside the computer's iTunes.  If you're logged into the "wrong" account, it's necessary to log out/in to do the update.  It's easier if you update from the iPod itself.  No need to log out/in but you do need to know the password for the ID.

  • Apple Remote app Stopped working

Since update 2015-003, my iOS Remote app will not work. Does anyone know why this is and how to fix?

    Hello Wrains1972,
The pairing process happens when you turn on Home Sharing.
Set up Remote app for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support
    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201664
Turn on Home Sharing using Remote
Connect iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to a Wi-Fi network on the same local network as your Mac, PC, or Apple TV.
Open the Remote app on your iOS device.
Turn on Home Sharing from the Remote Settings screen.
Sign in to the same Home Sharing account you used to sign in on your other devices.
After you set up Home Sharing on one or more devices, Remote will pair with those devices and you can start controlling them. You can use separate Apple IDs for Home Sharing and the iTunes Store on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. For example, you can sign in to Home Sharing using one account and then use a separate account for the iTunes store.

  • IPod Touch + iPhone remote... Is it possible?

I have a small question. I'm wondering if it's possible to use my iPhone to control the music playback on my iPod Touch. I haven't yet played with the Apple remote app yet but I figured I'd ask too. I plan to just run my iPod into a sterio through an audio in port but was hoping I could have a mobile remote as well. If anyone knows how and if I could pull this off your help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time everyone.

    Hi Andrew,
No, it's not possible! You can use the Remote application on your iPhone, to control only iTunes libraries on computers and/or Apple TV devices!
However, you can leave feedback to Apple, by filling out [this form|http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html]!
    Hope this helps!

  • Home Sharing/Apple Remote app issue on desktop

Alright so I'm a little confused. Less than a year ago I was able to use Home Sharing and the Apple Remote app on both my desktop [wired] and laptop [wireless]. Within the last few months, Home Sharing worked on the laptop and I was even able to use the Remote app on it as well, but the desktop is unresponsive in both areas. I have the most current version of iTunes on both computers [10.4.1.10]. The iPod plugs in and syncs fine I just want the **** Remote app to work again. Any and all help would be appreciated and I will give you any more info you need.

    1. One day Home Sharing (iTunes 10.0.1 but also in iTunes 9.x) works, and then a few days later, it will not work. A few days later, it works again.
    3. When Home Sharing stops, Apple Remote on my iPhone also no longer connects to iTunes.
    13. Mysteriously, for no apparent reason, Home Sharing and the Remote will start working again at some point.
I'm having this issue as well and it's extremely frustrating. Everything worked fine before I got my Apple TV a few days ago and turned on home sharing as part of the setup. Ever since then I've had these bizarre intermittent issues where my remote app can't see my iTunes library. It will work fine, then stop working, then 10 minutes later it will randomly start working again. I can't determine any kind of pattern as to what's happening, but it definitely has something to do with either my Apple TV or home sharing because my previous setup worked flawlessly for months before I started using ATV and home sharing.
I would love to see an acknowledgment of this problem by Apple and an indication that a fix is on the way. The frustration comes from not knowing what on earth is going on and if there is anything I can do to fix it.

  • I can't connect to my iTunes library on my Macbook Pro using the Apple Remote app on my iPhone 4S. Why?

    Hi all,
I've been looking through the forums for help with this problem. There are a couple of threads with similar problems, but no solved threads and the discussion doesn't seem to go anywhere... As far as I can tell, it's been causing a lot of annoyance for many users, including myself, but it looks like the community's in the dark about why it's happening!
I'm trying to connect to my iTunes library using the Apple Remote app on my new iPhone 4S. As you may know, there are two ways to do this:
Connect via Home Sharing by setting up Home Sharing on both iTunes and the iPhone, or
Connecting directly to iTunes using a four digit passcode.
I've tried both methods, and neither work!
Here's what happens for each method:
From the Remote app start screen, I tap the "Turn on Home Sharing" button. I enter my Apple ID details (which are definitely correct), and get a confirmation message on my phone saying "Home Sharing is on using [my email address]. To control iTunes: Choose Turn On Home Sharing from the Advanced menu in iTunes on your computer." I then go to iTunes, turn on Home Sharing, enter my Apple ID again and get a confirmation message saying "Home Sharing is now on", etc. However, there's no connection formed between my iPhone and my Macbook Pro - the Remote app just shows a message saying "Turn on Home Sharing in iTunes on your computer or on Apple TV using the account [my email address].
From the Remote app start screen, I tap "Add an iTunes Library", and the four digit passcode is shown on my phone. I select the new "Quintin's iPhone" item that appears in the iTunes sidebar under "Devices", and enter the passcode on the screen that appears. Once I've entered it, I get a confirmation message saying "Your Remote is now able to control iTunes" with an "Okay" button. Clicking the "Okay" button makes the screen and the sidebar item disappear completely. On my phone, a message that says "Looking for ..." is shown on the screen with a spinning loading wheel, but nothing happens. After a minute or two, it stops and simply says "Could not find".
After trying both methods, I went through all of the troubleshooting steps here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1741 . Absolutely no effect.
I should mention that I was experiencing similar problems on my old iPhone 3Gs with an older version of iTunes. I thought it might have been some kind of hardware fault and expected it to clear up once I got the new phone, but the problem is still there. It's a new phone, a new computer, a newer version an iTunes... even a different network I'm trying to connect to it on. Bizarre!
I've even tried using the Mobile Air Mouse remote application instead. However again, the Mobile Air Mouse app on my phone can't pick up the Mobile Air Mouse server on my Mac.
I'm kind of at the end of my rope here. Anyone?

I have the exact same problem trying to use the Remote app on both my iPhone 3gs and iPad 2 with either my Mac or ATV2.  My Remote app used to work on my phone - I can't recall if I ever actually used it with my iPad, but when I tried today, I got all the same results as you did (on both iPad, and then iPhone).  I  was using my ATV2 to play music from iTunes on my Mac and wanted to use the Remote app, but it would not connect to either device no matter what I did.
