IPod Touch audio / AudioServicesPlaySystemSound()

The iPod touch definitely plays little keyboard tap-tap-tap noises aloud when the sound effect setting is set to 'both,' but the alert sounds I set up to play in-app using AudioServicesCreateSystemSoundID and AudioServicesPlaySystemSound only play through the headphones. (I can't say whether or not the iPhone displays the same behavior, since I refuse to sacrifice my real phone on the altar of beta firmware.)
Am I missing something here? Plugging in the headset definitely does the trick and the sounds play fine, but for alert-sounds, it'd be nice to have them play aloud.

RainPacket: did you ever find a solution to this? I, too, would like to play my app's key tap sound effects through the iPod's Speaker, instead of just the Headphone.

  • IPod Touch audio fault

I've just set up a new iPod Touch and sadly the audio from the internal speakers keeps cutting out. Audio through the headphones is fine at all times. It doesn't come back on when I detach the headphones even if I shut it down and restart it. The sound only returns once I connect it back to my Mac. As soon as the dock lead is connected it bleeps and the internal speakers work again. It then works OK for a few minutes before going quiet again!
    Any ideas?

  • New iPod Touch, audio quality really noisy.

I just recently purchased an iPod Touch 4th generation in white on Boxing Day. So far, I'm enjoying my product, however when I try to listen to music through any earbuds the quality of the audio becomes distorted and noisy. I've tried the earbuds on other devices and the audio quality was also poor. I've tried using different earbuds with the iPod and the quality remains poor. I think there has been a manufacturer flaw in the product.
Do I return to the store in which I purchased the iPod and demande for an exhange? And if I do, would it be exchanged at none of my expense?
    Thank you in advance.

Well I don't have time to experiment in detail with and document technical analyses about the device but I will say that I did briefly compare it to the 2nd generation Nano as well as my home stereo using the same files (a couple of 256kbit AAC files ripped by myself in iTunes 8; one rock and one hip hop) several times and I enjoyed the resulting similarity throughout the various sources.
I'm quite content with the sound quality coming from this device... and I'm pretty anal about these things generally.

  • Ipod touch audio book

I have an ipod touch 2g and i want to load a book that i borrowed from the library onto it. the book is on two MP3CDs and the files are in MPEG Layer 3 audio. How do i get the files to load onto the touch?

No different that any other disk that you put in itunes to sync to your ipod.
With one nice exception... After you pull the CDs into iTunes, click on the book or chapters in iTunes and under Get Info go to the Options tab and set the media type to Audio Book, which will allow audio book kinds of things on the iPod (speeding up speech for example).

  • 8gb ipod touch audio not working

Earlier today I was listening to my ipod touch and it froze, then the screen went blank and it restarted itself and it has been working since that happened. A few minutes ago the audio would not work and I turned it off and back on and let it sit for a couple minutes and it started working again. I am just wondering if anyone else have this problem? What needs to be done to my ipod?
    Thanks!

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
Try the following to rule out a software problem. You have done at least some of these.
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at

    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.

  • IPod touch audio issue: why do I only get sound from one channel in my ear-pods?

After upgrading my brand new iPod touch 5th generation to IOS 6.1.2 I only get sound from the right channel of my ear-pods.
I did not have this issue with IOS 6.1.1. Is this a problem derived from new IOS? Any idea on how to solve it?

Have you tried other headphones? If you confirmned it is an iPod problem:

  • IPod Touch - Audio cuts out, then it skips to the next track

This is a really irritating problem, and I know I'm not the only one who has encountered this problem; the problem is that certain songs (it seems like random songs that it chooses to do this with) will play, and after a while--its not the same on every track--the audio simply cuts out, and then after a few more seconds, it changes songs. If I skip over the part that cuts out, the rest of the song will play without any further problems.
I know this has been addressed in this post:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1198666&tstart=0
sadly, however, that solution didn't fix my problem! I hope someone else has an idea of what to do, because I don't.
I am running iTunes 7.4.3.1 on Windows XP Professional.
    So far, I have tried:
    - Resetting the iPod
    - Restoring the iPod
    - Deleting a problematic song from iTunes, syncing my iPod without that particular song, and then adding the song once again to iTunes, and once again syncing my iPod.
    - The solution presented in the above URL.
Thanks in advance for your input!

Same problem here. It started with just 1 track I had bought through itunes but has now started to manifest itself on other random tracks. Has there been an official statement from Apple regarding this, because if it's a fault with the Ipod itself let's just cut to the chase and get them exchanged. It's starting to concern me a lot. I dont expect to pay £270 for a new Ipod and have issues with the simple function of playing a song!

  • Ipod Touch audio but no picture

I am trying to sling my tv from home to my ipod that is connected using a digital AV adapter and an HDMI cord to another TV.  I am getting sound but no picture. Can you you help?

What app are you using? An iPod only displays TV out for apps that support TV out. The Video app is one such app. The app description will say it it support TV out for the iPod.

  • On my ipad 2 I can't "see" the hundreds of spoken audio tracks that are in my itunes and on my ipod touch. Is there something I didn't do during sync up?

On my ipad 2 I can't "see" the hundreds of spoken audio tracks that are in my itunes and on my ipod touch. Is there something I didn't do during sync up? The tracks are from voice recordings that were downloaded from an extrernal drive and weren't necessarily tagged as spoken audio. Do I need to go back into itunes and relabel these tracks so they will show up on my ipad2?
Thanks in advance for your help!

With the iPad connected to the computer, while iTunes is running, click on the iPad name on the left side under devices. Click on the Movies tab and look for Movie Rentals. You want to "Move" the films to the iPad.

  • No audio when playing YOUTUBE videos on ipod touch via a docking station

Hi there, when my ipod touch is docked on its docking station, it will not play audio on youtube videos, it will play the video but not the audio through the docking station speaker. It used to play audio without problems before, but recently it has stopped. When i take the ipod touch off the docking station the audio on the youtube video returns. any ideas why this has happened? it plays the youtube audio through the head phones too, i can play all other audio through the docking station speakers with out a problem.

There are no setting to change on the iPod.
Have you updated either the firmware on the car or on the iPod since they last played in the car?

  • AFTER OS3 UPGRADE, 2GEN IPOD TOUCH HAS NO AUDIO and APPS WON'T OPEN

I installed iTunes 8.2 last week. Today I upgraded my 2gen iPod Touch to OS3 and there is no audio for songs purchased through iTunes. Songs that I have ripped from CDs have audio. Podcasts have audio. Songs I purchased from iTunes are not yet DRM free (I haven't paid yet to do so), so is this something about DRM or a OS3 problem?
Also, apps (from the store) icons appear on the iPod, but will not open when tapped.
I have done reset and restore. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Hope I won't have to wait for Apple to fix this. Thanks for your help.

I actually just had a call with an apple IT person - he had me go to "settings" on my touch, and reset, then "reset all settings".
my volume bar came back and it is now working with all my speakers, in the car, headphones, etc.
    hope this helps.

  • IPod Touch 2nd gen. audio dropouts

I just received my 2nd gen 8GB touch. Transferred one album to it for testing. The sound every now and then drops out for a split second. Never in the same spot in music though- so it's not a bad rip or faulty transfer. The dropouts also occur when listening to Pandora. I did a complete restore- and it didn't help. Turned off WiFi, no better.
Is this a known problem or is it unique to my iPod?
    Any known solutions?
    Thanks.

I have the same problem with audio dropouts with the Gen 2 32GB iPod Touch running Apple lossless, yet I never had this problem with Apple Gen 1 16GB iPod Touch running Apple lossless. This is a serious quality control issue and reflects lack of beta-testing. I have toyed with the idea of jumping into the Apple laptop world (from the PC world), but not now. I think this company has become marketing hype and does not care about quality control or perfection of a product. Lastly, I realy believe the audio quality is not on par with the Gen 1 iPod Touch (Klipsh IMAGE Headphones)-another suggestion of quality reduction to pay for marketing.
