IPod Touch battery draining too fast?

Recently, the battery life on my iPod touch has been draining too fast. Before I synced my iPod into my new laptop with a new iTunes, my battery life was very long, as I could go on for weeks before it was below 20%. Now, I can go from 100% down to 10% in under a minute.
Even if I charge overnight or have 100%, any time my iPod is unlocked, the battery drains fast. I've done several methods to try and solve the problem, such as deleting apps, lowering brightness, turn off background apps, and even bought the battery life app (which I've had before but it seems to do nothing now). Whether I use the camera, play a game, or surf the internet, the battery bar will go down really fast. Sometimes I'll have half of battery life left and all of a sudden, my iPod turns off because it instantly went frm 50% to 0%. Even harmless actions such as the clock or just staying on the home screen will drain more battery than it usually does. The music app seems to be the only one that can last longer than an hour, but even then, just leaving it in the background will deplete the battery faster than usual, as opposed to it being in the background for hours and not taking away any percentage.
My iPod still recharges normally (and quickly), and for some reason if I lock my iPod while it has a low percentage, when I unlock it again, a lot of battery is regained... and then lost almost immediately.
I'm not sure if this has to do anything with me syncing to a new iTunes. I'm still under the same username and whatnot, and all I did was use home sharing to import all of my music from the old computer to the new one, so I wouldn't have to constantly go to my old computer to sync with my iPod.
I currently use a 4th generation iPod touch with 8GB.
I'm just wondering, what can I do to solve this issue, to return it to how it was before? As of now, I can't afford to replace the iPod, and I'm willing to send my iPod for repair as a last resort.
Thanks.

However, I suspect that your battery is just dying/wearingout. That happens with age and use.
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one with a new battery for $79. They do not fix yours.

  • Why is my ipod touch battery drain out so fast

My ipod touch is 4g 8gb and I had it for two years, it is also ios 6.1.6 . I bought my ipod in 2013 and it was working great, but later on in the second year it wasn't. Every time it was fully charge and I take it out of the charger in one second or five sec the battery level would move very fast and then shut down and say it is low in battery. I can't use my ipod without plugging it in my charger or else it would shut down in like 5 sec when I am on it. I always close open apps and I tried resetting my ipod settings but nothing work. I don't know if it was the soft ware update to ios 6.1.6 that caused the battery to drain out so fast, but I don't know what is causing this problem.

  • IPod touch battery drain?

I've had my iPod touch (5g) since November, and I only charge it about once a day, but lately, it seems as if the battery has been draining faster, used to, I could get in safari, use siri, and play a game for around 20 minutes and it would be at 100%, now I listen to music, get on facebook, and answer emails and it's at 50%, I'm aware that using the touch screen and fetching new mail does drain the battery, but it's also my iPod and I know how the battery used to be. Should I send it into apple? Or is this a problem they would notice?

Using the battery level meter in this manner is comparable to using your car's fuel gauge to calculate miles per gallon.  The only thing that matters is the total amount of operating time from full charge to auto-shutdown.
Use a wall-mount charger from Apple and charge overnight.  Then, operate it normally until auto shut-down (ignore any low level alerts that may appear).  An irony is that doing that test to determine the total operating time is also the exact procedure necessary to calibrate the battery level meter.
I'm not claiming that you do not have a problem.  I am stating, however, that we don't yet know whether or not a battery problem exists.
    According to Apple:
    Use Your iPad Regularly
For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).
Elsewhere, Apple elaborates and explains that two half-discharges (or four quarter-discharges, etc.) equals one full discharge.

  • IPod Touch Battery Draining.

So I got an iPod Touch in March I believe and I loved it.
Recently however I have started having a problem. It seems that the battery is draining at an accelerated rate even when it is in sleep mode. For example when I go to bed at night the battery will be completely full and charged and when I wake up in the morning it will be completely drained. I don't leave it plugged in at night or on or anything.
I was wondering what the cause for this might be and how I could fix it.
    Thank you.

If you have installed the new operating system iOS4 then read through these posts:

If not then an appointment and visit to your local Apple store is warranted.

  • Iphone 4s battery draining too fast

I just received my iphone 4s and I have upgraded from my 3s, after holding on for so long I am so disappointed with the battery life. after 2 phone calls the battery drains 15 %, I have turned off all the features to make sure it lasts me at least till I can charge it again. any solutions out there, off course apple says there is no problem, just like we have no problems with the economy.

    Quick fix for you!!!!!!
Go to settings//Location Services//System Services//turn "Setting time Zone" and "Diagnostic & Usage" OFF.
These things will drain you to Zero fast. and tell Apple there is an issue with the Setting Time Zone feature.
Its constantly locating your phone second by second when it's suppose only work when you leave one time zone and go to another.

  • IPhone 4S battery draining too fast...Need to charge 3 times a day

Finally after 4 years I was very excited to get an iPhone that has all the features I wanted…but I am disappointed so far.
I purchased an iPhone 4S 32GB on 10/7 and has not been impressed with the battery life. I have to charge my iPhone at least 3 times a day. I go to work at 8 AM and by 11:30 AM the battery is at 20 %, so I charge it again which takes only about 60 to 120 minutes to charge, and by 5:30 PM I have to start charging again…the third charge has start around 11:30 PM and I have to keep the phone plugged overnight otherwise it will be dead by 6 AM.
I have read other posts on the web and people have suggested turning notifications, location services…etc which I went ahead and did but that did not change the battery issue. What is the purpose of having the iPhone 4S if all the features have to be turned off.
I always try to kill apps that running in background but still no fix to battery issue.
on 10/19/11 I went to Apple store and exchanged the phone with new one. The apple rep activated the phone for me and the charge was at 78 %. I left the store and 10 minutes later I was at my house, but again I was surprised to see the battery has drooped to 65 % within 10 minutes. While I was driving home I did not touch the phone or make/receive calls.
When I got home I plugged the phone and when it was charge at 100 % I unplugged it and 40 minutes later the battery dropped to 70 %.
Today I unplugged my iPhone 4s at 8:20 this morning with 100% and by 10:43 AM I am down to 63%. By 11:13 AM the battery was at 54% and by 11:46 AM the battery was down to 44% with me not touching it. I have turned everything off such notifications, locations services...etc and nothing in the background is working and I only used it for a 10 minute conversation.
It seemed that a lot of users are have similar issue. Not sure if the issue related to iOS 5, iPhone or bad batch of iPhone or iPhone batteries.
Before getting the iPhone 4S i had a 3GS from a family member that i had to charge at least 3 times a day. The only reason I got the new 4S is to not have to deal with frequent charge. I think I am 90 % close to returning the phone back to Apple and wait few months before attempting to purchase another phone.
    Thanks.....B

What made the trick for me was to drain the phone completely - until it dies. (It took quite a while to go from 3% to 0...). Then, charge it overnight.
Previous days I would start charging it with the battery at 10-15%, on red. Also for the last week I've been trying disabling functions, with the hope of finding what was the "offending" piece but without much success. Still was loosing about 10% per hour, just by using it to check emails, maps, and sometimes a call.
Today is almost two hours since I left home, with everything turned on again, used mail, maps with traffic during the ride to work, some browsing - using it "normally" - and the battery is still at 95%.
That looks more like normal to me.!!
Might try to drain it to 0% again as many other suggested, but if it is a battery charger "calibration", it shouldn't be necesary to do it more than once.

  • Does my battery drain too fast or is it still ok?

Well, I've earned an used iPhone and its battery lasts for 5 hours of use, more or less. I think it's worn out, but once it's my first iPhone, I can't say for sure. Could someone please tell me if this is normal or if I should replace the battery?

Even a good battery can die within a few hours of use. It all depends on how the phone is being used. There is a battery replacement program for some iPhone 5's. Enter your serial number here and see if you qualify.
    https://www.apple.com/support/iphone5-battery/
You can also go into setting > general > usage > battery usage. Let the list populate and it will show you which app is using the most battery usage.

If you do think you need a new battery then have it done at either an Apple store or an Authorized Apple Service Provider. There are no user serviceable parts in a iPhone.

  • Battery drains too fast

    Hello
I have this macbook air since now  a year.
he always had a battery life time of about 9 up to even 12 hours, even on high usage.
until i needed a new charger and the macbook seller sold me a macbook pro charger (85 watt)
suddenly i only have 4 up to 8 hours battery lifetime (according to the announce at to p of screen beneath the battery sybolo on desktop)
effective life time is much under this
suddenly i (even without any apps open) have maybe 3 hours lifetime left on full charged battery
it states : 8 hours, 10 minutes later: 6 hours, 20 minutes later: 5 hours etc.
here are the details of the battery:
(translated form german, sorry, but this should not affect the "understandability" of the data:
(they are taken during usage in battery usage)
    Left charge (in mAh): 3917
Full Load Capacity (in mAh): 4727 (was always around 5000 mah since i bought it)
Amount of charging cycles : 307
    State: Good
Voltage (in mV): 8223 (was always way lower, since i bought it, around 5000 and 6000 mah)
I alwas use the charger (plugged in usage) although sometimes i don't.
I am "upset" about the different advices the give in the net about Mac batteries:
once we should NEVER let them under 50% charge
once they talk about calibrate the battery by exactly let them drain  and keep it for even 5 hours "empty"
then again they state to use battery always down to low percent and recharge it...
I use since a short time a 85 W charger form Macbook pro, but net and MAcstore sellers state both this should not ale any issues
I'm wondering what happened to the battery, if there is some way to "become" back what i had before, a battery that worked at least 8 hours under "high pressure"
    Can anybody help?
Go to apple shop does not come into question as in argentina this si like going to macdonalds and try to get a roast beef.
change the battery: impossible in macbook air.
Is my battery broken after not even 400 cycles and this without any reason?
i don't run any process (hidden) i checked with activity manager
i don't have stuff memorized on clipboard.
almost all data (without adobe programs and default mac programs) are stored on external disk.
i run almost only native mac programs.
    Thank you!!!
    Seriennummer:
    ull

    hello
    thank you for the tip
i did a SMC reset, after all the other suggested steps.
result is a even lower battery life time, by 88% battery charge: 4 hours 12 minutes remaining, with no apps running.
I must say i have also upgraded to yosemite OS X 10, but since when should such a minimalistic and honestly downgrading OS decrease the life of a battery that hard?
I checked the battery status etc again, and this changed (to worse) as well:
(88% battery charge left - 4:12 hrs left)
    -Left charge (in mAh): 3962
    -Fully charged : no
    -Battery is loading: no
-Full load capacity (in mAh): 4679
    -amount of charging cycles: 312
    -state: good
    -"voltage using" (in mA): -867
    -voltage (in mV): 8250
    compared to before:
    Left charge (in mAh): 3917
Full Load Capacity (in mAh): 4727 (was always around 5000 mah since i bought it)
Amount of charging cycles : 307
    State: Good
Voltage (in mV): 8223 (was always way lower, since i bought it, around 5000 and 6000 mah)
full load capacity decreased and voltage increased again.
    is this thing broken?
has anybody a idea WHY it is and WHAT could i do ?
battery has not yet reached the 1000 loads that i have been told will be the "breaking point" of a macbook air battery.
I am thankful of any info/idea/suggestion.

Anyone having same problem? I phone 4 after updating to Vers.5.1.1. battery cannot be 100% full charge, always stop at 99% and battery drains off fast too

I had major issues with the iPhone 4s battery, however it’s resolved.
The tech who set the phone up at the Apple store did so with little training.
if you have a mobile me account. First go and move all your data to the cloud by going on your computer and logging in at me.com/move. The cloud has replaced mobile me, so there is no need for those two accounts
Also make sure that for any of your email accounts you set them up to fetch, not push. My tech person set them all to have the email servers push data to the phone. The new iphone4s antenna is extremely strong so it will continually try to access stuff that is pushed–***** a lot of battery life doing this. It makes it worse if you have exchange 2010 accounts. Something about changes made to exchange really suck battery life from devices that access such accounts.
turning of locator and the push notifications from facebook--they have a lot!

  • My ipod touch battery has an issue please help

My iPod Touch 4G discharges very fast and then it will some how say its higher charge than before and with when it reaches 20% It will alert me of it and then like 5 minutes would go higher charge. Also it will turn off like it is dead it will turn back on. Any help will be appreciated. Warranty end Dec. 3,2011!

Mine does that too, if you mean that the battery will drain quick and then a minute later it will show a greater charge. I was concerned and took it to the Genius Bar and since mine was in the warranty that replaced it and it is still doing it, so it might just be the iOS. I expect an update will be released soon. I know many people that this has happened to.

  • 1st generation ipod touch battery

My first generation iPod Touch battery has had it and is barely holding a charge. Does anyone have any experience with the battery replacement companies that are available? Would like to use someone that has had a good experience.

if you're using it for media a lot then the battery will be drained a lot more quickly than just using it for music/podcasts. i often listen to a 3.5 hour radio show via wifi using the BBC iPlayer and that pretty much kills the battery, but if i'm using it for just music/podcasts it will last at least a few days before needing a charge.
hints i have seen for the new batteries suggest that rather than letting your iPod run down, you should keep charging it, no matter how short a period, whenever you can.

  • Why is my ipod touch battary drained quickly

    Hi All ,
Something Strange happened last week . I was updating my ipod touch 5th to the new 7.0.3 , but something happened in the verification . i don't know if its connected or no . but ever since my ipod battary has been drained very quickly . i charged it before sleep and when i wake up i found it closed ( battary Drained ) . Yesterday i fully charged it and i closed it completly ( slide to shut down ) , today when i opened it , hald the battary was gone . Can anyone tell me why or Help ?!!!

    Hello there, Pakinam.
The following Knowledge Base article provides some great steps for troubleshooting your issue:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2771
    Particularly:
Battery does not appear to charge
Important: iPod touch cannot be charged with a FireWire-based power source.
Verify that the power source being used is working properly.
If connecting to a computer's USB port, verify it is a high-powered USB 2.0 port. Note: The USB ports on most keyboards don't provide enough power, so if you're connecting iPod touch to a keyboard, make sure it has a high-powered USB 2.0 port.
Verify the computer is turned on and not in sleep or standby mode. If iPod touch is connected to a computer that's not turned on or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPod touch battery may drain.
    Try another USB port.
Try charging from a USB charger if available.
If that does not help, try another USB cable if available.
Learn more about charging the battery.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • Why is the battery draining so fast?

Everything in safari is shut down, all multi-tasking is turned off too. My phone is only 7 months old & has worked fine up until today when I noticed the battery draining so fast.

@ neeraj_96 - Thanks for the input, but that's not the issue.  As I was saying in my reply, my phone has had a wonderful battery life up until yesterday. This has nothing to do with turning off fetching or lowering my brightness.  I have done no major changes in the settings to my iPhone since yesterday, but now all the sudden I can barely hold a charge.  I completely charged it last night to 100%.  This morning I woke up and it was at 56%.  My wife has an iPhone 4, hers was at 96% and this morning it is at 91%.  Something is definitely up with my phone's battery that is not a normal operation.
I have tried to do a complete reboot of the phone (holding the power button and the home key down for 10 seconds) and that has not solved the problem.  I would suspect that it's an application running in the background, but I figured, as @williamformlouisville stated, that would have killed any rouge application draining my battery, but it has not helped.  This is definitely not normal for this phone's operation.
