Ipod touch Battery issue

Hi all
i just got my brand new ipod touch 2nd gen for less than 1 month however i notice that the battery is somehow different from before. Now it can be charged up to 80% with usb cable in less than 1 hour and almost fully charged in 2 hours. and the battery drains down to 20% in 3hours after continual gaming. Is that normal?

  • 2nd gen iPod touch battery issue?

I have an 8 gig, 2nd generation iPod touch that I've had since the summer of 2009. I have used it every day since I got it and have never noticed a problem until recently. Usually I can go for 2-4 days without charging it, but about two weeks ago, I noticed that I was having to charge it every day, otherwise it would die over night. I switched the wi-fi off and I now shut down my iPod every time I'm done using it which have both helped to preserve the battery life quite a bit; however, it's quite annoying having to turn the wi-fi on and off every time I want to use it (I usually just left it on). I'm assuming that this is an indication that my battery is officially dying and, with it being 4 years old, I imagine it has surpassed the maximum number of productive charge cycles. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Is there something that I can do to fix it or do I need to replace the battery? Thank you all for your help!

Yup, sounds like the battery is dying.
    - Apple will replace the battery/exchange the iPod for $79
    - A third-party place like the following is less expensive.

  • My 8gb iPod Touch Battery Issues?

My iPod has lived in my car, plugged into the USB / iPod slot for about 9 months with no problem at all.
Over christmas, I unplugged it and took it on a trip with me. Upon unplugging, a problem immediately surfaced - the battery dies (on standby, not playing) in about 5 hours from a full charge.
The cable in the car isn't permanent live, so I can say with confidence that this wasn't happening before. It just started happening this one day.
Secondary to this, when plugged into the car now, when enough juice for it to play is finally attained (takes about 5 minutes from turning on the ignition), then the iPod will play around 5 to 10 tracks before all of a sudden, everything stops, the radio goes off and the "overheating" message is displayed on the iPod, though it's cool to touch...
After 60 seconds, you can press the menu button and the message is dismissed and the iPod will play another 5 to 10 tracks before the overheat message is displayed again and you have to wait another 60 seconds before it will go again....
This iPod is only about a year old. Help! Will a reset fix this? or is the battery actually dead? I don't have all of the music on this iPod on the laptop any more. Is there any way of resetting without losing everything?
    Thanks,
    Ben

Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem. Could be the battery or somethting else.

  • IOS 5.0.1 did not fix iPod Touch battery issue

My 3g touch does not hold a charge. It was completely fine until the upgrade to iOS 5 which basically killed it! Did the 5.0.1 update and that did NOTHING! Took it to the Apple store and your so called "Geniuses" said I can replace the battery for like $80. Uhhh, NO! There is nothing wrong with the battery. It is the OS that is jacked up! You said that iOS 5 would be compatable. This needs to be fixed immediately! I know that I am not the only one out there having this issue.

    DiscoSteve74,
Are you looking for an email address to contact Apple?
If so, they don't have one. They do, however, have this, a page for feedback.
If you'd like to call them, you might have to pay a fee.
    Hope this helps,
    O.C.

  • My ipod touch has a short amount of battery life of around two hours, but i installed an app that tells you how much battery life left, it said 4 hours, how come? is my ipod touch battery faulty?

my ipod touch 8gb, ios 4.3.2 has a short amount of battery life of around 2 hours, but i installed an app that tells you the battery life remaining, it said 4 hours, how come? is my ipod touch battery faulty

    Some useful info would be:
    What generation is it?
    How old is it?
If it's older than the 3rd generation, then the battery may have run its course (or iOS 4.3 is taking a toll on the battery).
If not, then you might have some issues leaving the wi-fi on and fetching data as well as running apps in the background that abuse location services and notification. Make sure those are off, or only running when necessary. If you see a small arrow in the top right corner (that isn't the music "Play" arrow), then you are currently running a location based service that can drain battery.
Also check your brightness settings, these can really pull battery life.

  • 1st generation ipod touch battery

My first generation iPod Touch battery has had it and is barely holding a charge. Does anyone have any experience with the battery replacement companies that are available? Would like to use someone that has had a good experience.

if you're using it for media a lot then the battery will be drained a lot more quickly than just using it for music/podcasts. i often listen to a 3.5 hour radio show via wifi using the BBC iPlayer and that pretty much kills the battery, but if i'm using it for just music/podcasts it will last at least a few days before needing a charge.
hints i have seen for the new batteries suggest that rather than letting your iPod run down, you should keep charging it, no matter how short a period, whenever you can.

  • IPod touch battery life

My new Ipod touch battery will only last 4-5 hours when playing music and simple games??  I turned the wireless off and it still only lasted 4-5 hours.
    Any ideas would be appreciated
    thanks

IF I'm correct, the complete drain followed by a complete charge will fix the problem.  If I'm incorrect, your battery needs replacement.  If your unit is still in warranty, there is no cost.  If out of warranty, the charge is US$79.  Your iPod, being new, is of course in warranty.
    Good luck!

  • Has anybody else had an iPod touch battery go into "deep discharge"? The only way to get it out of "deep discharge" is to connect to a Mac computer to charge it. Mine was only 6 months old when it happened, and cost $80 AUS to recharge. Rubbish batteries!

Has anybody else had an iPod touch battery go into "deep Discharge"? Mine did after 6 months use, Mains charger did not work, computer charger did not work, so took it for repair under warranty. I was then told about "deep discharge" , and it has to be connected to a Mac computer to recharge again. This cost me $80 AUS. It does not say much for iPod batteries, especially if you don't have a Mac to charge it if it happens again. In fact it sounds like a fundamental flaw in the product......

There are other repair companies for the touch/iPhone. Google them, you might find a lower price.

  • My ipod touch battery has an issue please help

My iPod Touch 4G discharges very fast and then it will some how say its higher charge than before and with when it reaches 20% It will alert me of it and then like 5 minutes would go higher charge. Also it will turn off like it is dead it will turn back on. Any help will be appreciated. Warranty end Dec. 3,2011!

Mine does that too, if you mean that the battery will drain quick and then a minute later it will show a greater charge. I was concerned and took it to the Genius Bar and since mine was in the warranty that replaced it and it is still doing it, so it might just be the iOS. I expect an update will be released soon. I know many people that this has happened to.

  • My new ipod touch battery dies fast? Could this be iOS 5.0.1?

I got my ipod touch 1 week ago and my battery dies so fast. 25 percent gone in 1 hour! I turn off all background apps, brightness is low, push notifications off, no emails and no gamecenter etc and it still dies at the same rate. And I just use safari and facebook and 25 percent gone in 1 hour What is wrong with my ipod touch and how do i fix this? I bought my ipod from amazon so idk what to do since i have a battery issue. Is this related to ios 5.0.1 or is it my battery? Which is most likely? My iPod Touch dies in like 4 hours light usage...

sorry that it took me so long to reply, try letting it charge over night. let me know if that works

  • IPod Touch battery draining too fast?

Recently, the battery life on my iPod touch has been draining too fast. Before I synced my iPod into my new laptop with a new iTunes, my battery life was very long, as I could go on for weeks before it was below 20%. Now, I can go from 100% down to 10% in under a minute.
Even if I charge overnight or have 100%, any time my iPod is unlocked, the battery drains fast. I've done several methods to try and solve the problem, such as deleting apps, lowering brightness, turn off background apps, and even bought the battery life app (which I've had before but it seems to do nothing now). Whether I use the camera, play a game, or surf the internet, the battery bar will go down really fast. Sometimes I'll have half of battery life left and all of a sudden, my iPod turns off because it instantly went frm 50% to 0%. Even harmless actions such as the clock or just staying on the home screen will drain more battery than it usually does. The music app seems to be the only one that can last longer than an hour, but even then, just leaving it in the background will deplete the battery faster than usual, as opposed to it being in the background for hours and not taking away any percentage.
My iPod still recharges normally (and quickly), and for some reason if I lock my iPod while it has a low percentage, when I unlock it again, a lot of battery is regained... and then lost almost immediately.
I'm not sure if this has to do anything with me syncing to a new iTunes. I'm still under the same username and whatnot, and all I did was use home sharing to import all of my music from the old computer to the new one, so I wouldn't have to constantly go to my old computer to sync with my iPod.
I currently use a 4th generation iPod touch with 8GB.
I'm just wondering, what can I do to solve this issue, to return it to how it was before? As of now, I can't afford to replace the iPod, and I'm willing to send my iPod for repair as a last resort.
    Thanks.

However, I suspect that your battery is just dying/wearingout. That happens with age and use.
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one with a new battery for $79. They do not fix yours.

  • IPod Touch Battery Heat

I just recently bought a new iPod Touch from Sam's Club (Without a warranty...), and everything seems to be functioning properly...Except that the battery seems to give off lots of heat, much more in comparison to my old 5th Generation iPod Video.
So far it hasn't affected use or functionality in any way, but is it supposed to give off heat from the battery? It's not burning hot, I can press it to my lips without flinching, but it is still quite hot, more then warm anyways.
Any advice would be great. And yes, I know it would have probably been wise to get a warranty, but past that, any advice?

I mean I didn't pay an extra $30, so yes, extended warranty is probably what I chose not to get. They were not very specific on the "extended" part as I was checking out.
Is it possible that this is just caused by a heavy amount of battery use for what I am doing? The game I was playing was Dungeon Hunter from Gameloft, which has quite a lot in it, like 250 MB in size I think it was. Is it possible that that much detail is just too much to safely be used on an iTouch? So far, playing music hardly causes any warming, and videos just make it warm, not actually hot. If it's an issue with the type of game used, I would just prefer to delete the game...especially if it will just do the same thing on a new iPod. However if any app...game or not...is going to cause this with this particular iTouch, I will definitely want a replacement.
Your help so far is much appreciated.
As a side note, it is a couple hours to the nearest Apple retail store, and while I appreciate the suggestion of going there (Not saying I won't) long drives for iPod repair is something I would only want to do if completely necessary.

  • Ipod Touch Battery Issuses

I sent my year old 2nd gen ipod touch away because of battery issues. Apple sent me a new one. My new one has the same problems with the battery life. Sometimes it works fine. But yesterday after working good for weeks, I update my apps and then the battery craps out. Then I restore it, and reinstall my songs and apps, it'll work good maybe. I'll charge it up before I go to bed and wake up and it's dead by morning, just sitting there not doing anything. I'm getting pretty frustrated, having to keep restoring it. I've called apple support and they said it could be because of corrupted files. I have like 10 songs and 6 apps on it. Thing thats I downloaded straight from itunes the touch. I'm debating getting rid of it and buying an new one, but would than be any better?

  • IPod touch battery charge icon won't light, USB doesn't connect to computer

I have an iPod touch 64 GB 4th generation that suddenly has charging and USB issues.  The charging icon will not light no matter what I try.  I have tried several different chargers and docks that have proven to be working properly using another unit of the same model.  Strangely, the iPod does appear to charge, but the battery indicator is a bit random and possibly doesn't indicate the actual charge level.
The iPod will also not connect to a computer using any of my iPod cables or computers.   I have tried putting it into DFU (didn't work - computer would not recognize iPod at all) mode and also did a full reset (wiping everything on it) and it is still acting the same.
As of now, it works normally, except battery level indicator cannot be trusted, and it is impossible to know if it is charging or is charged, and there is no way to back it up, meaning any content generated on the iPod will have to be backed up in some other way besides connecting to a computer via USB.
I know that the USB is working at least a little bit on the iPod, because the iPod will turn on when plugging it into the computer via USB, but nothing else will happen.
I also cleaned the connector area with contact cleaner and a light brush.
Any ideas on what else to try?

  • My ipod touch battery in the top right says it is full when the large icon in the middle of the screen says it is not full?

I plugged my ipod touch in to be charged because the battery is 20% and after a few minutes of charging it says on the right hand corner that it is full, but the large battery in the center of the screen says it is dead.
