Ipod Touch - Black, apple logo, white screen, black REPEATEDLY!

My ipod touch, 2nd or 3rd generation, keeps flashing from black, to apple logo, to white screen and back to black. Then about every 10th cycle or so it flashes the low battery screen and then shuts off. Only to begin its cycle again in a few minutes. Obviously the battery is so low it can't boot right away. But it won't wait to try to turn on long enough to charge the battery. I've tried resetting, and it won't show up in iTunes to restore...HELP! I WILL NOT give up on this iPod!

lllaass Thanks for the reply.
I was aware of the nature of the error. The USB issue would not appear to be relevant as my own iTouch 2G is fine using the same PC / cable. However I will, when I have time, install iTunes on another PC and attempt from there. My question asked if the OP had resolved the issue and if it had been resolved then how was it acheived.
The Grandson's iTouch is now permanently stuck in the mode it first appears in when new i.e. image displayed of the iTunes symbol and a USB cable, indicating that it needs to communicate with iTunes.

I had to reboot my iMac, it froze... When I went to reboot it started up as usual... Made power sound, showed apple logo (white screen)... And pin wheel started after 3 to 4 mins., went to black screen with error messages. Rebooted 5x, shot off power source, disconnected external devices... Now won't go past pinwheel... Since it does not go to black screen, I cannot convey error messages... Please advise what I could try... Thank you... I have an iMac 2009... Upgrade operating system to new system this spring... It is guitardad's again... I read past topics on this issue... As I am not overly computer savvy, I want to be careful that I don't mess things up further... Of course the extended warranty is done... There is talk about booting from the system disc...  I'm not sure if this is the first thing to do or not... Can the support community, advise me on what logical steps I should take ( in order) or direct me to a website and/ or you tube video that walks one safely through the processes... Once again thank you for reading and offering your advice... I am on fixed $$$ so I'm trying to avoid calling apple, unless I have no options and/or the suggestions do not resolve the issues... Tx again Don.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

If you can't get it to shut down or restart when holding down the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons and you can't get it recognized in iTunes to restore it, the iPod may have suffered a hardware failure and will need to go to Apple for service. Someone else here may have additional suggestions, though.
There is no "fifth generation" iPod touch, by the way, just for the sake of clarity; not yet, anyway.

  • My Ipod touch 4G has a white screen.

My Ipod touch 4G has a white screen.  I've followed all the troubleshooting tips - turning off (hard to tell when all you see is white), hard reset, and restore.  I updated to the latest software versions.  Itunes recognizes the ipod.  I restored it.  Nothing changed.  Still have the white screen.  It hasn't been mishandled - no cracked screen, no water, hasn't been dropped.  Any other suggestions or is it time to call Apple?

If you have done al the hardware troubleshooting, call Apple to get it serviced.

And I want to repair other scratch too... What can I do about that?
I am Korean,,, I don't know English about that...T.T please understanding me well...

I believe you're south corean, right? Are there any Apple Stores in South Corea? If not, go to the place where you bought your iPod, and talk to them about that.
Much more productive than talking to someone that's sitting in front of a computer, on the other side of the world (i.e. Portugal)

  • Ipod touch is frozen with white screen

My daughters ipod touch just froze. The screen is lit up white and can do nothing.  I tried holding the on/off and home button at the same time for at least 15 seconds and it still wont restart. I also tried charging it for several hours and nothing.  Any ideas?

You have to let the battery drain. After it is drained and the screen shuts off, THEN charge it back up.

  • IPod touch 4g frozen on white screen

Hi all, I have a fairly important problem. I was listening to Pandora while on the Facebook app, and I had just unlocked my iPod touch 4g/5g when the music stopped, screen froze, and faded to white. Now I have it plugged into iTunes. It downloaded all of the recent purchases I had made since the last time I synced it, but iTunes does not recognize or acknowledge the presence of my iPod. The screen is still white, some 30 minutes after this happened. It's completely unresponsive and I've tried holding down the home and power buttons until the Apple icon showed up, but the icon never showed up... I also have read quite a few other discussion forums about the "white screen of death", but they are all older and not about the current generation iPod touch. If this could be fixed quickly that would be awesome. I use my iPod quite frequently so it would be nice to have it back up and running.
    Thanks, Quinn

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely.  Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again.
