IPod touch blue screen of death on vista when synching photos

Hi forum,
I've just purchased my gorgeous iPod Touch 16Gb. However, when I try and synch it to my Windows Vista PC (32 bit enterprise edition), it blue screens, does a memory dump, then restarts every time.
This only happens when synching photos, specifically when the "optimising photos for iPod" process takes place.
I'm running the latest version of iTunes (7.4.3.1), the iPod software is current, and my computer is fully patched and up-to-date.
Is there anyone out there who can help me solve this problem? The photo functionality is one of the reasons I bought the iPod, and I would like to get this sorted!
Thanks!
Frustrated iPod user.

Restore does nothing + it's brand new - any other ideas?

  • IPod Causing Blue Screen of Death on Windows Vista

I'm posting this in the correct forum now:
For some reason, all of a sudden, whenever I plug in or unplug my iPod to my computer, the computer crashes and quickly shows a blue screen of death before restarting. It has not done this before today. I haven't done anything out of the ordinary with the iPod or the computer that would cause it to do this.
When iTunes opened, it said there was a Windows Update to fix a problem with iPods corrupting upon disconnecting from the PC, but when I tried to download the update, it said something about the update not being needed for this system. The iPod isn't corrupted, everything is still on it. I don't know what the deal is.
I tried system restore back to like a week ago, but this did nothing to help.

First, update the USB Root Driver on your computer: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305136 Even if there are no new drivers for your computer, follow the last part of the article and let Windows update your USB driver.
Second, be sure you are using a rear port on your computer.
Third, with only the iPod, mouse and keyboard connected (no speakers, no mic, nothing else), reassign the drive letter on your iPod. Try M or P or Z: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93499

  • Blue screen of Death - Windows Vista

    Hello,
My HP Pavillion has died - or maybe is just dying. I forced a shutdown yesterday because it froze completely. Now, it will not restart. When I start it, it gives me the black screen where it "scans" everything because it found some "fatal error" (drama queen much?) and then gives me my sign in screen, I sign in, and then I get a BLUE SCREEN where it informs me it is shutting down again (without even asking how I feel about it. HOW RUDE.)
Anyway, it shuts off, turns itself back on (goodness knows I'M not doing it) and then - the black screen checks my disc space again, sign in screen, blue screen, shuts down - you get the point ,it's an endless cycle.
Oh also, my keyboard is not working. The mousepad works, although only to move the cursor (I can't actually click on anything, which as of this morning, makes even signing in impossible.)
    Is there any hope?
    Thank you.

    HI leetasee,
Sorry to hear about the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) that you are getting. What is the error message that you are getting with the BSOD? A BSOD can either be caused by software or hardware. Let's see if you can check the computer for hardware failures using the HP Diagnostic Tools. Below I have included a link on how to use the tools. You can use them from the boot menu, run the System Test – Extensive.
    Testing Hardware Failures Windows Vista:

Something else to try is see if you can boot into safe mode.
Start your computer in safe mode:

If that works then try the link below to deal with any potential software problems.

  • IPOD causes "Blue Screen of Death" with physical memory dump

Plugged in the IPOD into USB port on computer. It shows "found USB device" and then 5-10 seconds later I get the blue screen of death and a notification that there is a driver error and a physical memory dump as occurred.
Spent two hours with Apple people and Dell people this morning and nothing. I have updated drivers, flashed my bios, uninstalled and then reinstalled the latest version of Itunes.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

what numerical and text codes are you getting with it? (ie 0x[zeros/letters/numbers] CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
if the blue screen mentions a specific file, let us know what that is called too. (exact spelling, please.)
here's a reference on the sorts of things i'm asking about:

if you're just seeing a flash of a blue screen, we can use this technique to make hidden blue screens appear for us:
    1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
    2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
    3) Click the "Startup and Recover" section's "Settings" button
    4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.

  • Ipod + itunes = blue screen of death & reboot - HELP PLEASE!

I'll try to make a long story as short as possible here.
i've had a 40G ipod for over a year and a half now. back in the beginning things were working fine. with the size i hadn't done any syncing for a long long time. however, the ipod crapped out so i got a replacement from the apple store.
after registering the new ipod i was having trouble syncing. it would upload a few hundred songs and then freeze or cause a reboot. i uninstalled the ipod software as well, installed the latest itunes software - over the previous version, installed the latest ipod updater software and restored the ipod.
again, i was able to sync for brief periods in 3 different tries - amassing a whole six hundred and something songs. after each try itunes said syncing was complete (but not even close - had just over 2000 mp3s looking to sync up). unbelievably things got worse. now, if the ipod is docked and itunes is running - regardless of which is done first - my pc will get the blue screen of death and reboot itself.
also, without itunes and the ipod docked, it shows up as an i: drive, but when i try to browse it though my computer, it locks up the machine and shows nothing.
any help out there is GREATLY appreciated!
    here are my specs:
    - ipod 40 Gig, with click wheel and four buttons below the screen with
    dock & firewire cable
    - pc running windows xp pro
    - firewire card with 3 ports
    - ipod & itunes software located on 120G c: drive
    - mp3 collection located on secondary 160G d: drive
    - 3/4 gig of ram
p.s. i have mcafee running and i've tried everything with it on as well as off. doesn't seem to make a difference.
also, i have checked a TON of posts on apple.com as well as other discussion groups and couldn't find an answer.

    hi Douglas!
first promise me that you'll back up your data. having your PC shut down in non-standard ways (for
    b any
reason) increases your risk of file corruption and putting scruffy spots on your hard drive.
Now some basic first aid. download some fresh definitions and do some vigorous virus and spyware scans. run your favorite hard-disk checking utility. do a disk cleanup.
now let's follow up on the blue screen of death. Perversely, i've started to become pleased when people report BSODs under these circumstances. we can wring a lot of information from a BSOD error message. there's also usually something concrete to go on in the error logs.
    (1) what BSOD error number and message are you getting? here's a reference:
    http://aumha.org/win5/kbestop.htm
    (2) squeeze your error logs for all they're worth. right-click on "My Computer", select manage. click on your event viewer. click on your application and system logs, and look for errors and warnings happening at roughly the same time as your crashes.
click on the relevant warnings to see if you can find any commonalities in the errors/warnings. follow up the Help and Support links to see if you can find any suggested "User action" or relevant MS KB documents. (sometimes these things are there, sometimes they aren't.)
    good luck! keep us posted.
    love, b

  • Blue screen of death on PC when using home sharing with Apple TV

I've just bought ATV2 and trying to connect to my iTunes library on Win7 PC via home sharing. I can connect fine to the library, but when I play a song on ATV, I get blue screen of death on my PC. Any ideas? I'm running latest version of iTunes on my PC.

We need to know the Stop code on the blue screen. If there is a file name mentioned, we want that too.
You can prevent the rapid disappearance of the blue screen during a normal boot by choosing this at the F8 Startup menu.

  • System crash when trying to connect IPod touch (blue screen)

    Hello all!
All of a sudden, my computer running on Windows XP doesn't recognize my iPod touch anymore. Changing the USB-Port and re-installing iTunes did not help. The actualization of the driver resulted in the system to recognize the iPod for a couple of seconds, but then the system crashed and a blue screen appeared, which made it necessary to restart the system. I had the same thing four times today now and have absoultely no idea what else I could do. Can anyone help?
    Thank you in advance!

  • Ipod touch 2g Screen presses random keys even when screen isnt touched...what is the fix?

the ipod touch 2g presses random keys by just moving it...it moves when i E mail and skips songs anyone know a fix???

Try the standard fixes to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore the iPod from backup
    - Restore the iPod to factoery defaults.
If still problem you likely have a hardwareware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Ipod nano blue screen of death

Hi, I'm having real problems with my ipods/itunes, running Windows Vista. I have an ipod classic and a nano and the problem is slightly different for each.
On the nano, halfway through sync, itunes crashes and I get BSOD.
On the classic, I can sync my ipod. If I disconnect my ipod while itunes is still running then I get BSOD. If I close itunes first then disconnect my ipod it is OK.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling itunes. I also read an apple support item about outdated drivers so I have downloaded Slimdrivers utility and checked for updated drivers - only one required update. Neither of these solutions helped my problem. Any help would be much appreciated.

  • IPod Touch white screen of death

I've tried a hard factory reset and got nothing. I tried putting it in DFU mode and nothing. It shows up in iTunes I just don't know what to do to fix the white screen! I can hear the audible lock click and can swipe on the screen to unlock. But I can't see anything but white. What else can I do to fix it?

You will need a hardware repair. White screens can be caused by dropping device or getting it wet. If there is no accidental damage and under warranty, Apple should repair it for you. Contacts support or Head for an Apple store.

  • Blue Screen Of Death When Syncing Ipod

Hey so if anyone can help me i will love you so much,
So I have a 20GB fourth generation ipod (old i know) but it works fine, and i have an new HP laptop that i got for christmas and like for a good 2 months everything was fine with itunes and then one time it told me i needed to restore my ipod to factory settings and i was like oh this is annoying but whatever ive done it before so i just did it, but the next time i tried syncing my ipod the BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH came up and that scared me but i thought maybe it was just a one time thing...turns out it wasnt and now every time i try to sync my ipod the blue screen comes up and i have to restart my computer. my itunes otherwise works fine i listen to music on it and add music to itunes perfectly fine just the syncing doesnt work. I also thought maybe it could be my ipod because it is old so i went down to my desktop which has XP and and older version of itunes but it worked completly fine. SOOOOOOOOOOO i have no idea what to do. i dont know tons about computers but im not ******** and can most likely follow directions so if anyone could help me it would be much apreciated because i can not take listening to the god awful radio in the car much longer.

Have you tried System Restore to go back to before the problem started?
If that fixes the Blue Screen Of Death issue, then you can try and track down the changes from then to when the problem started.
    Good Luck.

  • BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH (the wondows one)seriusly need help.

okay, well the storry goes like this, i'm on my way home on a subway, when all of a sudden my ipod gets VERY laggy, then just freezes, i try everything i can for a while, but it refuses to do anything. I get home, plug it into my pc, it says the ipod had been ****** up, it needs to be restored, i say "deal" it gets restored......and nothing happens...
i unplug the ipod, plug it back in, it says it needs to be restored again ...follow the procedure, now a bit confused.
Then (as the website says " third time's the charm") i connect my ipod, i get the icon in bottom right of my pc showing that there is something connected, and supposedly it's an ipod, however nothing shows up at my computer, or itunes.
then give it a minute or two, my computer flashes with the windows infamous blue screen of death waits a second, and restarts.
is there a way to solve this ? , i can't even SEE my ipod ...
      Windows XP Pro

ough, i've tried resetting it, but that did nothing
...(the menu and center key) and the blue screen of
death only happens when ipod is connected, my pc runs
fine and stabel without the ipod...
is there a way to reformat the ipod without
connecting it to a pc ?
may be i could connect to macs at school and format
    it there ?
Well, if you really want to reformat your iPod Hard Drive, I don't know if there's a way to do it without hooking it up to a computer.
Nevertheless, you can always try these steps on your PC. If this still doesn't work, try your friends' PC but make sure no iTunes software is installed... In your PC's case do these:
    1. uninstall iTunes (it then asks to restart PC)
    2. after restarting plug in your iPod to a usb port
    3. after windows recognizes the iPod, open My Computer
    4. look for the drive letter that refers to your iPod
    5. right click on it and click reformat
    6. once formatting is done right click on that drive letter again and click eject.
    7. wait for the "do not disconnect" warning on your iPod to disappear then remove usb connection
You can then restore or update the iPod software by reinstalling and using iTunes.
I personally haven't reformatted my iPod yet but I did try doing steps 1 - 5 without actually clicking "format" in my other PC. Just give it a run and hope it will work. Good luck.

  • Windows "Blue screen of Death" when booting computer attached to LabVIEW PXI realtime system

Good Morning (at least in the western hemisphere)!
I'm having a problem on two test systems where intermittently, at least on one machine, I get a Windows "Blue Screen of Death" error message when booting the machine connected to a PXI RT system. I reloaded the RT systems software yesterday (LV RT 7.1.1, NI-VISA 3.3.1) and am having this problem on two different setups, two laptops, two PXI chassis. Our short term work around has been to boot with the network cable removed at one end or the other, but these are the baseline models for a larger test system in the design/construction stage that will not be used by knowledgeable engineers but by (probably more knowledgeable!) technicians.  Any ideas would be a help

Blue screens are almost always caused by drivers and not by applications, so chances are there's a problem on the driver level.  The crash log file will be instrumental to diagnosing this problem.
Turn on the crash event logging as described in this Microsoft KB:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314084/EN-US/
...and then post the details from the crash found in the Windows Event Viewer here. That will help us narrow the problem down.

  • HP probook 4720 graphics Blue screen of death

I have an HP probook 4720s (Product #: WT238EA#ACQ). I have upgraded my RAM to 6GB.
My problem. The other day I was busy playing a game when the computer froze and then turned off while it was turning off a small blue screen briefly appeared. I restarted the laptop and everything seemed fine, I left the computer for a few minutes and when I came back the screen was completely off but the computer was operating as normal. No key press or anything would put the screen back on.
Everytime after this event that I tried to put the laptop on it would start(HHD spin, CPU fan work, HDD light would blink for a bit then stop but the screen would stay completely black with no blue backlight). I tried hard reset and a number of other things like checking if the RAM was connected properly and still the screen remained off.
I decided to connect the laptop to an external monitor and I finally could display on the monitor but it still would not display on the laptop screen. After the windows emblem loaded the dreaded blue screen of death would appear with a STOP error 0x00000116 which after some looking up appears to be the graphics driver. After safe starting the system and rolling back the graphics driver to standard VGA adapter the windows 7 system was then able to start in normal mode. I've tried reinstalling the HD 5470 graphics driver but the blue screen of death continues to appear. I have completely reloaded the OS to no avail.
I disconnected the laptops screen from the motherboard without the graphics driver loaded, which didn't cause a beep but displayed on the external monitor when I connected it. I tried the same with the graphic driver loaded, still no beeps were heard and when I connected the external monitor the blue screen appeared.
From the tests I had tried, I believe that there must be an issue with the graphics card itself as the Blue screen of death only displays when the graphics card driver is loaded.
Could you please advise on what you feel I should do, Some assistance with this matter would be much appreciated. I appolagize for the long message.
    Regards,
    Byron
