IPod Touch can't see the WiFi

Hello,
Thanks in advance for your kind assistance.
I'm out in a remote area, at a little inn. There's no cell phone service here. To my surprise, my laptop, a Macbook, picks up a strong WiFi signal, without password protection, probably provided by the proprietors for the guests. The woman at the desk knows little about it. That's how I'm posting this message.
There's another WiFi signal, weak, and password protected.
My iPod touch, 4th generation, can see the weaker WiFi signal, which I can't use, because it's password protected. There is no indication it is picking up the stronger signal. I tried "join other networks" and typing in the name of the router that my MacBook picks up, but that doesn't work either.
My iPod normally works fine. I don't know what to think. I tried "reset network settiongs." Then tried "reset all settings." No improvement.
Please advise.
TM

Well, lllaass,
I don't think this is the correct explanation. As I understand it, 5 Ghz N band WiFi routers also use the 2.4 Ghz band, and can shift back and forth as needed. It might be possible to disable the 2.4 Ghz band on such a router, but who would bother? Not likely the proprietor of a little B&B out in the middle of nowhere. Unless I've misunderstood something about 5 Ghz N band WiFi routers.
On the other hand, there don't seem to be many other good explanations for this odd anomaly.
I suppose it's possible that there's something wrong with my iPod Touch 4G -- either something I never noticed before, or a new problem that occurred in the last few days.
Previously, my iPod has worked well with a variety of WiFi routers.
Any other thoughts, lllaass, or anyone else?

  • 1st Gen Ipod Touch can't see any WiFi networks?

My friend gave me his old Ipod Touch, and everything worked fine for a while. Recently though, the WiFi just cut out and I can't connect or see anything. When I open up the 'Connect to WiFi' menu, there are no options.. even though I know there is internet because my computer is connected. I have tried typing in the name of the networks and I get an error that reads 'This network was not found.'
I have tried reformatting it to factory specs three times through Itunes, and it still won't show up.
Anyone have any ideas? Is the wireless card/adapter dead?
    Thanks

i put the new ios 5....  and now my ipod touch can't open my wifi or Bluetooth it is haper on gray like it no disposable

How are you trying to accomplish these two tasks?
The correct way is as follows:
Camera zoom: pinch with your fingers like you do when viewing pictures.
Camera button in lock screen: Double-tap on the home button while in lock screen
If you are already doing it that way and it doesn't work, then maybe someone else here has another idea.

  • My iPod touch can't find any wifi?

My iPod touch can't find any wifi at all. I've restored it reset everything and it still can't find the wifi even when I had it right next to the router. Any help please? I got this ipod from my brother a few days ago and apparently the wifi worked fine until he updated it to the 3.1 update or something like that so he gave it to me. I want to be able to connect to the wifi in my house and it just won't. Any help please????

Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

I got my screen fixed and the day i got my ipod touch 4th gen back the wifi doesnt work unless i hold it right up to my router. Roughly every foot I move back it loses a bar and if i leave the room it doesn't even have a signal completely. Could the screen replacement have tampered with the wifi capability? Also if it helps I switched internet providers and during the time when my ipod was being fixed a new router was installed and it doesnt seem to work unless directly infront of my ipod.

Take it back to where you had the screen replaced. They messed up the connection to the wifi antenna

If a restore did not fix it, you have a hardware issue--possible bad wi-fi radio.

Why is it not in itunes?
It should always be in itunes and included in your regular backup of your computer.

  • Airport Extreme green light but can't see the wifi network

Hello, coming back from the holidays I can't see my Wifi network anymore (From PS3, Phone, Computers ..etc.). My airport has a greenlight and the internet is working fine if my computer is connected with an Ethernet cable. I re-did the configuration many times and I did a hard reset of both my modem and the airport. It is not setted to a hidden connection. All the settings are basic like before. The only difference is that I did the update to 7.6.4.

I think you were right, my airport was broken and I noticed that at the end of the configuration process where there's a green checkmark it was written in the bottom that a wifi device wasn't working properly. Nothing could be done to make it work though.
I bought a new Airport Express now but I still have a major problem. I was able to configure it through wifi with my iMac without any problem and now it is connected to the internet via wifi perfectly but i STILL can't see the network with either my Android phone or my PS3 console !?
    - Brand new airport express
    - configured to "create a wifi network" with a WPA2 password using the simple steps of the airport utility
    - Airport Utility 5.6.1
I did reset the airport express a few times with the utility and by removing the power cord. I also did reset my iMac and I can still connect to the wifi just fine with it.

  • TS1398 my ipod touch won't join the wifi network even after entering correct password. it just keeps trying to join but I can't use internet

My home wifi is working for all my other apple devices but my daughter's Ipod Touch won't connect. It recognises the network and attempts to join it as usual but it just keeps 'trying' without actually connecting. Have switched on and off, renewed lease, reset networks etc - basically everything I can think of but no luck. Any help much appreciated.

Try restarting your router, if you are still having problems try resetting your network settings.  Go into your settings>reset then tap reset network settings.

  • 1st Gen. Ipod Touch does not see my wifi

Hello all, I have been struggling with this issue for a couple of hours and I am stuck. Any insight would be appreciated.
My 1st gen. Ipod touch no longer sees my wireless network. This is preventing me from connecting, obviously. The Ipod sees other wireless networks, such as my neighbors, but not mine. Other devices, such as my laptop and my printer both see and connect to the wireless network fine. I am at a loss for what to do next.
    What I have tried:
    Power cycling my Ipod.
Resetting network settings on my Ipod.
Resetting all settings on the Ipod.
    Power cycling my wireless router.
    Additional information:
I am running the latest Ipod and router firmware, so far as I can tell.
I recently bought a new router, which may be the source of the trouble. It is a standard Belkin 108.11b/g router. I haven't done anything fancy with the settings, other than to change the defauly SSID and set up wireless security.
My wireless router is set to broadcast an SSID.
My wireless router is set to use WPA/WPA2 encryption (though I don't think that should affect its visibility).
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

... I know battery life isn't the issue because I had it syncing with my laptop for a few hours.
But if this is your old iPod, perhaps it is the battery. It may no longer be able to hold charge, that's what happens to old batteries.
Have you tried turning it on while it's connected to power? When you unplug the iPod from any power and try turning it on, look at the battery icon (if it's there). Is it full when it turns on and what level does it show just before it turns itself off again?

  • Can't See The Wife Any More

We have an iMac 24 (Intel) with built-in iSight in our kitchen in the house. I have a G5 (no camera) in the office (same network). We're both on Tiger.
For a couple of years my wife has been able to call me up via Bonjour and I can see her in the iChat window. Just recently the connection still works for audio but I can't see her any more. She can see herself in the iChat window and I get an iChat window but mine is just a blank white space – no darling wife.
I've checked the preferences but can't see that anything has changed.
    Help appreciated.
    Bob.

Thanks but no that didn't work. However I've established that it's 'my end' i.e. it's the G5 that's not playing ball.
I also have a MacBook Pro in the office (Leaopard) and tried a one-way-video from that machine to the G5 (after setting the preferences and re-starting iChat as you suggested) and the result is the same.
It sounds like it's going to work, I get the dull chime when I accept the Video Chat but just the same shortened white screen.
So I tried a video chat (two way) between the iMac and the MacBook Pro and that works fine. (I thought I'd also try a one-way-video chat form the iMac to the PowerBook but there's no option for this – the little devil must know the PowerBook has a camera.)
    Bob.
